Retrieves the windows key / license key

Hello

I've lost my windows key which is an authorized copy, I wanted it back.
What should I do?
my system info:
Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit
product ID:-00359-OEM-8992687-00016
Please help to recover my key. My windows is activated and genuine.

Where to find your product key:

You can identify the edition on COA sticker on your machine, at the top/side or bottom compartment or battery (laptop) if it's a desktop computer.

COA certificate of authenticity:

http://www.Microsoft.com/howtotell/content.aspx?PG=COA

What is the certificate of authenticity for Windows?

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/what-is-the-Windows-certificate-of-authenticity

Other options:

Option 1:

If the COA sticker is damaged, you must use the recovery partition to reinstall Windows 7, it will be exempt from the need to use the product key to activate your installation of Windows 7.

Option 2:

If your recovery partition is not available or damaged, you must contact the manufacturer of your computer, and request that a defined recovery disk you can use to reinstall Windows 7. They could practice a small shipping and handling. This will exempt the need to also use the product key.

Option 3:

If neither options 1 or 2 is possible, then you will need to invest in a new license of full version of detail.

New computers coming often pre-installed with Windows 7 have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

For Acer, press and hold ALT + F10, as soon as you see the logo

If Yes, how I've go ahead make a bootable USB.

As someone can tell me if there is a way to retrieve the WINDOWS KEY from the recovery disc.

    Thank you.

    Hello

This can help, but you will need a Vista system to create the working bootable USB key:http://www.askvg.com/how-to-create-bootable-usb-drive-to-install-windows-vista/

As for the product key, it should be on a sticker on the laptop (usually on the bottom). If it is not readable, contact the manufacturer for further assistance. As we said already, the product key is not on the installation disc.

Replace broken laptop optical drives is not too difficult, you can see this as another option.

  • Pavillion P7-1423w: failure of the motherboard - how can I retrieve the Windows license key?

I bought a refurbished Pavilion p7-1423w a couple of years and a couple of weeks, it's totally dead.  It wouldn't boot on hard drive, CD, DVD, or USB, and I couldn't get into the BIOS.  It was toast.  Thinking that it was the motherboard, I bought as close to the same motherboard came with the computer as possible, hoping it would always start windows.  I replace the motherboard, and after several attempts, I got it to start on Windows.  But then I realized that Winodws was not enabled, so, apparently, that the Windows key has been changed somehow.

My computer came with Windows 8 is installed, and I see that the keys are in the old motherboard BIOS, which is dead.  I tried to recover the old key from the hard drive in Windows.old, but not luck.

HP can provide new keys for me since the death of the motherboard?  The product is no longer under warranty, so it seems that this will cost me $60 to call them.  Is this correct?

    Thank you

    Rzgui, welcome to the forum.

The license for Windows on OEM computers is only for the original configuration.  Microsoft will not make available product keys.  You will need to purchase a full copy of Windows.

Please click on the Thumbs up button '+' if I helped you and click on "Accept as Solution" If your problem is resolved.

  • I get a popup stating the windows key that I use is not valid.

    Activate Windows when already activated?

I just did a major update to my computer with a new motherboard, video card and processor, and now I get a popup stating the windows key that I use is not valid. The key on the sticker still gives me the same error. Any advice? Activate Windows when already activated?

If your copy of WIndows was preinstalled, it rests on an OEM license.

These licenses cannot be moved to the new motherboard, except under the conditions of warranty replacement.

You will need to purchase a new complete commercial for Windows license.

    Hello

No.; If the operating system on the other came computer preinstalled (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.) you can't use it on another PC.

If the laptop/computer came with preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), this product key provided with your computer/laptop to the OEM license preinstalled and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) is related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when dies of this machine.

Only retail Operating System license that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

    See you soon.

CTRL-Alt-Del does not bring upward the more after XP Task Manager - it brings up a different menu options:

The options presented are also slightly configurable via Group Policy, if your system is equipped with:

You can kind of 'test' on your keyboard with a built in Screen-Keyboard Windows.

All programs, accessories, ease of access, Screen-Keyboard.

When you press a key on the keyboard, it should light up on the screen keyboard on (by pressing Ctrl):

Of course, we don't know anything about your system (desktop, laptop, keyboard, PS/2, USB, wireless wired keyboard) so you may need to see if another keyboard works, another USB port, batteries, etc...

    Hello

You can use the Ctrl + ESC key to simulate the Windows key, however, it does not work with a lot of shortcuts Windows default key. Sometimes you can press the ESC key first followed by the CTRL key over a shortcut key to make it work, but a large part of the functionality is lost.

I have not tested Windows 7 remains to be seen what works and what does not.

You can see the current list of shortcuts to Windows key at the following link.

Of course, you can also create shortcuts to certain functions and assign your own shortcut in the properties of the shortcut key.

    I hope this helps.

Thank you for using Windows 7

-What is the number of brand and model of the computer?

  • Retrieve the product key Windows 7 Pro when the laptop has been restored to Windows Vista

My laptop fujitsu has been sent for repair; the technician has restored the settings to factory default which wiped out the Professional Windows 7 operating system. My laptop has been improved by Windows Vista Edition Fujitsu Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional during a previous repair. How one don't get the product key for Windows 7 Professional in this case? Should I inform Microsoft of my laptop series No. to recover the product key of Windows 7 Professional? If so, then how do then? Thank you very much for your quick response.

If the machine has been 'improved' during a repair - then they must have attached the relevant sticker of COA or PoL card to the machine.

If they don't, and you do not specifically for the upgrade, then it has never been a valid upgrade.

  • Retrieve the product key of windows 8?

Earlier this year, I had to replace the hard drive of my laptop. Prior to that I had been using Windows 8.1 (bought this laptop with Windows 8, updated through the store). After replacing the hard drive, that I've been to Windows 8 and impossible update such 8.1 he supported my laptop did not meet specifications, and Diagnostics showed the wrong version of Windows. A friend told me that he knew how to fix this and I trust him to do, to see after update that he had used a command prompt to change my product key and to clear the cache of the store (and now I'm wondering if he couldn't have just erased the cache), and now my Windows is not activated. I tried to do a system restore before he did this, but the laptop says that there is no restore point. Can I do to get my product key original return, or do I have to buy a new one if I want my Windows active again? While I wouldn't rather she, I would not be opposed to a complete reinstallation or something as if it were the only way, as long as it is guaranteed that I would get the original back and not all product key what is illegal, he put on my laptop. The only disc that came with my laptop has been to install drivers, and I found no key on the manual so I guess it is only stored in the system. Now, I know do not trust him with my laptop once again, but I still need to fix this. Can someone help, please?

    Hi Amanda,

Thanks for posting the query on Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to know that, after replacing the hard drive, you cannot activate Windows. Since joining pre-install on the computer, the product key is stored on the computer.

    1. How do you re - install Windows and is it enabled before you try to upgrade to Windows 8.1?
    2. Now you have Windows 8 or 8.1 of Windows on the computer?

If you encounter any problem with activation, then you will need to contact the activation team for assistance.

  • Do I have to disable the Windows key of I intend to reinstall Windows on another hard drive?

I have a TB HDD which was once my main OS (Windows 7) until the motherboard and the PSU broke. I bought new equipment and could not get my old hard drive as Windows 7 above to start. I would like to get a quick flash of the blue screen of death, and the system was in the same boot loop. My brother-in-law brother let me borrow an another disk drive hard 80gig empty I was able to install the OS on and reconnect my old drive to recover all my pictures, music, videos and documents. Now I want to format my old 1 TB drive and reinstall my OS on that drive. I have to turn off the key? Is there a limit to how many times you can use your key? I could have sworn that Windows XP has been like that?

It would be similar to Apple's iTunes software, where you can disable the service before you can reinstall.

If it is a complete retail Windows 7 license and this is the same computer, you can just reinstall and reactivate automatically. If the Activation of the Internet does not work, use the phone activation:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

    (4) choose the option "activate phone".

    (5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    (6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.
