Return additional ups cannot find my external hard drive.

Windows back Ups to run without problem. I put them to run every week and save them to an external hard drive. In recent times the first (full) backup works but additional back weekly, ups can't find my external hard drive even if the settings have not been changed and the first aid found without problem. I use Vista Home Premium.

Any ideas?

Thanks John

I suggest avoid you the Windows backup program and you get a good commercial backup program. This forum meets for a windows problem reports. I know that I was very impressed when I tried it. Two, I'm familiar with and like Norton Ghost (which I use for 7 years without the 1st problem), and Memeo, which has a 30 day free trial and you can buy it for $29.99 - you can download it from

http://memeo.com . You can get Ghost for almost nothing (like me), if you look at the sales.

CNET has a lot of reviews of backup program to

http://download.cnet.com/windows/backup-software/?tag=contentBody;sideBar .

Some of them are free (the last time I checked there over 300), some have free trials (more), and some are buying only (more than 200).

Good luck

  • Cannot find my external hard drive in file Explorer

I can find my external hard drive in the Manager, but not when I go to computer

This usually means that Windows 7 think that the drive is not partitioned or formatted.  This usually happens as a result of any material event on the external device.  The hard drive itself or the case could fail.  What causes this is:

    1. overheating
    2. a bad USB disconnection
    3. Shock, like a drop of water

If you need to replace, you will find a few tips here: http://canadiantech.info/?page_id=213

You should be able to re-partition and / or reformat the disk, but all will be lost that was stored on it.  The tools to do this are in computer management, disk management.

  • I can't find my external hard drive under 'Computer' but it appears in "Devices and printers" How can I access files on my external hard drive?

I can't find my external hard drive in "computer".

I just bougth a new HP computer running Windows 7.  I just copied a bunch of movie files, music and photo of my old Mac (OSX Leopard) on a Western Digital external hard drive.

I plugged the external drive in my HP via USB 2.0 on the front of the computer.  Windows recognizes the drive.  She appears in the Panel of external control/hardware and Sound/devices and printers as "HARD disk".

It does not appear in 'Computer' under 'devices with removable storage ".

I just want to get to my files so I can copy them to my new computer.  How to access my files on the external hard drive?  Why isn't he appear in 'computer '?

    Hello ShamedMonkey,

Thank you for your message.  The problem you are having is because of differences in formatting between PC and Mac.  You can, however, transfer your files between the two.  I will set out what must be done under and limitations of each.
First, you will need to format the drive on your PC.  When you format the PC, you can format it in FAT32 or NTFS.
(You mentioned that you do not see the drive in the computer) To format drive:
Click 'Start' > right click on 'Computer' > select 'manage '.
    Click on "disk management".
In the right pane, you should see your drive > you can then do a right click and 'format '.
    FAT32:
This format will allow you to easily transfer files between the two.  This format becomes problematic when you transfer files more than 4 G.  There is a limit of 4 GB in FAT32, etc. of many movies are bigger than that and cannot be transferred using this format.
    NTFS
This format has no size limitation, however, in its normal state it will be 'Read only' on Mac.  If you will not be able to transfer all the data itself.  While doing some research on the web, it seems that you can use a program called MacFuse on your Mac to change to NTFS files.  I have not confirmed this, but you can give it a try.  If this program works as planned, it would be the way to go.
Please let us know if it did or did not solve your problem.
    See you soon

  • Cannot restore to external hard drive

    Hi all

I use Premiere Pro for a while, and I'm pretty comfortable with it. However, I could not yet find a way to make an external hard drive. Every time I make it says that there are approximately 32 GB of free space to return in. But my external hard drive has 1.42 TB of free space.

I have chaged the location of "Media Cache files" on the external drive.

I changed the location of "Media Cache database" on the external drive.

Every time I make again, he says there is only 32 GB of free space on my computer. I really need to be able to return on the external hard drive, because I work with a large amount of high quality video every day.

Is it possible to make in my external hard drive?

    Thank you!

Wow, I actually just found the solution.

If you go to the project settings and in the tab "Scratch the disc" change them to locations on your external drive return on your external drive.

    Thank you all!

  • I can't find my external hard drive

    Hello

I have a drive hard new, not used externally. It has its own drive system and goes into USB.

A friend got for me (he knows computers!), it's a drive hard there, for which he bought coverage.

He says that it's compatible pc and mac and my friend tested, and it worked on his windows pc. He said all I had to do was of gives it so it would be mac compatible.

Today, I wanted to do, but I can't drive anywhere on my macbook! It does not appear in the disk utility, or anywhere else that I checked.

So I thought maybe it was automatically conferted in windows format, when my friend plugged to test. Who is right why I tried my husbands laptop windows-computer, so maybe I could set up here to something my macbook can read. But the disc is nowhere on my husbands laptop as well!

The hard disk is turned on, the little green light says it's on...

What can I do to find it?

p.s. I'm still under OSX 10.6 (this is why I need it. I want to back up my documents before updating to the new OSX)

    Thank you!

    Jelka

If the external hard drive is not readable by a Mac or a PC, then it is either corrupted or it has not been partitioned and formatted yet.

Because it is not found in disk utility, I think at this point it is the first and will not be usable. However, if it worked on your friend's PC, told format to FAT32. You should then be able to access it with disk utility and reformat in HFS + for your Mac.

I bought all the necessary equiptment to open it, I have different devices to connect my hard drive to that allows me to connect to any laptop.

Ive tried all the links and updates that have been previously mentioned on many forums and still nothing works. Ive did go into the Device Manager... still no luck. It indicates that the device is functioning properly. I don't know what to do. some help would be great.

    Hello

    2. what exactly happens when you access the hard drive?

    3. you receive an error message?

I suggest you try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Try to connect the hard drive to a different USB port or try to connect the hard drive in another computer and check that the problem persists

  • Windows 7 cannot see my external hard drive, even if I don't use it on this computer!

I have 2 external hard drives, both worked well on Windows 7. Now, on the same computer, no change, they stopped from within the computer. Drivers fine and visible in the devices. all ideas

    Hello Gus,

Windows 7, having trouble finding external drives is not uncommon. I use Aomei Partition Wizard to get Windows to recognize the drive; Download here: http://download.cnet.com/AOMEI-Partition-Assistant-Standard-Edition/3000-18512_4-75118871.html?tag=mncol;1 .

Once installed simply click on the external drive, and then select Properties. Who should get the drive recognized by Windows. See if that solves the problem for you.

    Kind regards

  • Cannot access an external hard drive lost, encrypted BitLocker recovery key and do not know where to enter the password to unlock it.

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-Bit on a Sony Vaio. Worked great, seems awsome and rolls GOOS GOOS, for a new operating system. I decided to use the BitLocker feature that I wanted to use from Vista Ultimate, which was incredibly dificult unlike BitLocker in Windows 7, which is extremely simple to use. So simple in fact, I encrypted my external hard drive Verbatim 160 Gig where the original BACKUP files are with ALL my original documents, settings and files of the company are located. I haven't used a USB key, or don't have I recorded the RecoveryKey, I printed and completely loses it, I remember perfectly well the password I used. Problem is I have NOW, I can't ACCESS MY HARD DRIVE! When I try to access the hard drive it asked me not the password recovery key. Please help me, im in deep poopie. I wish I could change the world, if only I could find a diapper big enough to hold so many things...

Hey thanks for the reply Kev, but I must say that I did and didn't. The new Windows 7 operating system has this feature built-in and it is much easier to use. So yes I did it, but I made using windows 7 have where, instead of download all the files, I just insert the original DVD of WIndows 7, I restart my PC and follow the instructions of recovery of BitLocker recovery key, and voila. The problem is that I've NEVER stored on this particular external hard drive recovery key. BTW: I tried to follow the steps mentioned by Mr. Vijay but inconsistent tool with my operating system (Windows 7 64-Bit) it only works with Vista (not 150 percent certain but close). Please correct me if Im wrong. I wish I could change the world, if only I could find a diapper big enough to hold so many things...

  • How to find an external hard drive using bridge

I use CS4 in a Mac. Due to lack of space, I transferred all folders of photos to an external hard drive Lacie. Now, I can find the Lacie with Bridge and find and open all folders of photos. But when I try to search by keyword, they are not found. How do I do that?

You will need to reindex all files before that search works.

I purge the existing cache and then perform a search in the top folder.  Select "Include Non-Indexed files" at the bottom of the search window.

All files will be indexed, but it will take a while.  It start when you leave work on computer for awhile.

    Hope this fixes the problem.

  • MacBook retina cannot find the USB hard drive when it is plugged again

    Hello world

I have a MacBook retina 2015 computers and a hard drive WD elements USB3 that I use as a Time Machine backup when they travel. The drive is plugged into the USB - C through one of the Apple dongles and when I first start the computer, the USB is mounted and that it appears on the desktop. He does everything very well.

When I want to take the machine away, I eject it, wait for the secure message and then physically disconnect the drive. However, when I go back and reconnect the drive, the Mac did not see it. The reader will be able as the light comes on and I can hear it turn. Just, it is not mount and is completely invisible for MacOS.

I checked all connections, even used another dongle - no luck. A disconnect does not set, and I tried to reset the NVRAM. So far, the only solution is to reboot the Mac, afterwards the player reappears - at least until I need to unplug it again.

Anyone got any ideas what is underway and if there is a fix?

    Thank you very much

    Mike.

    Hello, Mike Richards2,.

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple!

This is I think understand that you are not able to see an external hard drive when it is ejected, and then reconnect the computer.  I have some suggestions that I hope will help you.

It is important to try to isolate what is responsible for this.  The first thing to do to help isolate what is causing the problem is to start the computer in what is called Safe Mode and see if the problem persists.

    Start in safe mode:

    1. Choose the Apple menu > shut down.
    2. After your Mac stops, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.
    3. As soon as you hear the startup tone, hold down the SHIFT key.
You must press the SHIFT key as soon as possible once you hear the startup tone, but not before.
    4. Release the SHIFT key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.

OS X El Capitan: start in safe mode

Once the computer is running in safe mode, see if you can duplicate the issue.  If the problem does not appear, go ahead and try to reboot normally again.  If the problem has disappeared, it may have been caused by a problem of file or directory of cache fixed by booting in safe mode.

If the question comes up, you'll want to check the login items.  Follow these instructions to remove the connection:

OS X El Capitan: If you think you have incompatible connection points

Remove the connection, restart the computer and see if the problem persists.
