Reuse old SSD Chips

Hello

I just upgraded my SSD in my XPS 13 Ultrabook, 480 GB. That leaves me with a perfectly usable 256GB SSD that I would use elsewhere.

However, this isn't a 2.5 form factor drive "but a chip custom 2 x 4 cm.

Does anyone know of a shopping cart or similar which will take this chip and make it usable?

Thank you

Sifta

There are mSATA to 2.5 "adapters, Yes.

  • Alienware 17 R2 compatible ssd chips m.2

I bought an Alienware 17 R2 with 256 GB + 1 TB and want to upgrade to 512 GB + 1 TB.  There are 4 m2 and right now, there is 1 chip of 256 GB in slot 1. Since there are 4 slots, I think I can add up to 3 256 GB more than chips for a total of 1 TB SSD. Right now, I only add 1 token more.

I talked to people in parts of Dell and they say that there is no other chip L8H-256V2G-11.

1: I understand the architecture properly?

2: if I add a chip of 256 GB Mithraeum, I'll be able to EXPAND C drive or will I stuck with 2 256 GB SSDs?

3: where can I get a compatible (or exact match) chip?  (a google search is not trurnm a source).

    Hello

If you add a 256GB SSD M2, you will not extend the C drive, the system can be considered as an additional drive for storage. Drive C will be only on the drive where you installed Windows. You can try looking for the SSD on 3rd party online stores.

The alert function must function SMART failure to predict which monitors the drive in operating condition. If in case the SSD or HARD disk drive supports SMART failure to predict function, the utility should be able to read

I wanted to extend the life of my old Compaq Evo N1020V Intel P4. I bought a Transcend SSD TS32GSSD25-m, connected to the computer, I have updated the BIOS to the latest version available F.0B January 24, 2007. Unfortunately, when the computer starts the message: 0200: failure fixed disk 0
Is it possible to connect the SSD drive to the old computer?

    I see that now.

You initialize the drive using the FDISK utility? If it is not initialized it would not even necessarily considered gift.

Installation of an operating system on an SSD, this isn't the same as it is with an electromagnetic drive legacy.  It is a little involved with an old SSD OCZ Vertex and enough conversely simple with a Corsair SSD upgrade kit. I own both. The upgrade of the Corsair was as simple as with the SATA supplied to the usb connector and software cloning with that also it was delivered.

To do a bit of research I saw that there is not much in material information facility available on the web for this particular SSD. Maybe the transcend technical support would have been a better place to look for info on the installation. Transcend would have supported their product. The post that is marked as the solution is not correct. It is as you say a disc SSD PATA. It must have worked. the problem seems to be more a problem installation or a failing Transcend SSD drive. return the drive for a replacement and try again.

  • HP Envy 1540T H8: SSD upgrade hard drive

I have a 256 GB SSD installed in my office that has run out of space (12 GB remainining).  The reader is my C: drive and contains my OS and program files.    I want to buy a SSD drive more and have the following questions:

-All the SSD is compatible with my computer?

-Once I have buy a new drive, can I use the backup of C: drive I have created with EaseUS Todo backup to the format of the player and keep all my OS and program files?

I appreciate any advice you can offer and say thank you in advance.

    Hello

Most of the newer SATA III SSDs should be compatible with your PC.  No matter what you tell a 2.5 SSD "?

I don't know what you did with EaseUS Todo backup, so I can't say if it will work.  In addition, I do not know if EasyUS Todo can manage Secure Boot and migration of UEFI mode.

Many SSD manufacturers have migration free software available for their products.  I use this type of the adapter SATA USB 3 , when I backup images of my starting of external storage devices (not tube) systems.

You should be able to image your SSD existing to the new SSD and the migration software should be able to make adjustments to size during the migration process. Once it is complete then the swap on the SSD for the new SSDS of greater.  You can reformat the old biggest SSD using the adapter above and reuse the SSD for something else.

  • Organizer in Ps 11 refers to former locations of SSD after cloning

I recently installed a larger SSD in readiness for a move to W7 SP1 (64-bit) to W10 pro (64-bit). I cloned successfully the old drive and have gotten W10 now works successfully on the new SSD with all my programs, including Ps11.

During the upgrade, only the new SSD left connected, but I reconnected now the old drive of W7, I want to keep until I'm sure that there are no hardware conflicts or software with W10.

Ps11 run successfully under W10 on the new SSD when only this drive is connected, but as soon as the old SSD is connected Organizer seeks to this drive for the location of my pictures. As I have full backups on an external drive, I was happy enough to uninstall the old disk Ps11 and remove all the pictures of this player. Unfortunately it is not enough to deter the Organizer from the old location. More when you try to re - connect the inputs of the album and manually to point to the current location Organizer refuses to reconnect on the grounds that "the file already exists in the catalog".

I guess I forget something obvious - unfortunately, it is not obvious to me!

    Any guidance will be appreciated.

Maybe it's not easy at all, but this is a natural consequence of the way in which the Organizer acknowledges the disks. And cloning and reuse disks automatically will deceive the Organizer.

The reason is that the readers are well known of the two criteria in Windows: the drive letter AND the serial number of the drive. Now, both drives have the same serial number in the "volume_table" of the database.

The organizer can recognize only the location of the data, if the drive letter and the series are not changed and it will not reconnect if two drives have the same serial number.

    Read more:

    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/#_Writing_File_Metadata

You will never be able to work properly with the Organizer if you have two drives with the same serial number.

On the other hand, while a catalogue record can be stored anywhere (its content is not changed), it will show that everything disconnected if the letter and the series are changed.

The right way is to do a full backup and restore once the serial number problem has been resolved. It is possible to change the serial number, as indicated in the link above.

  • New hard drive SSD on MBP take longer to start than the smaller size SSD?

I have improved my HD with a 1 TB of a 250 original HD - disk SSD TIMES. A new takes more time to start. It takes about 10-15 seconds of a black screen before the Apple logo and the start screen appears. Therefore, the new drive starts and loads faster than the older DSS programs. When I turned on the computer with the old SSD, I heard the 'noise' and the apple logo came immediately.

I improved by my old disk cloning using SUPER DUPER of shirt pocket by putting the new HD into a box to clone. It went well. However, its takes more time to see the apple logo and I was wondering if some setting needs to be changed. Everything else works great!
Thanks for any help that anyone can provide.

    Skip

Although this is not the problem, go to System-> startup disk Preferences and check that your OS X partition is highlighted as the boot partition. If this is not the case, do. After that, your Mac will automatically start in OS X. If you do not choose any boot drive, your Mac can find all disks bootable on your Mac, which can take some time.

It should work.   OWC sells also compatible SSD MBAs.

Note that if you have Apple care, it will be cancelled by installing a different SSD.

    Hello

I bought an SSD OCZ Vertex 460 for Tecra Z50-A-180 but the system only started only not with this device.

BIOS detect SSD but not find any system start-up.

I cloned the old SSD HARD drive, but the system does not boot with SSD.

I installed the firmware 1.03 on OCZ.

    I await response.

What program did you use to clone?
Maybe it's not compatible with the version of Windows.

If you load a new copy of Windows or Ubuntu on the SSD can it start?

  • Tecra R850 - support SSD SATA 6.0 GB III

    Hello.

    I bought R850 with SSD.
The bad news is that SSD 256 GB installed is limited to SATA II with up to 300/Mo transfer. I read that Sandy Bridge supports SATA III, which covers 600/Mo.

Is someone installed successfully the best able with SATA3 SSD drive?

I tried Sisoft Sandra and it reported that the SSD SATA is II, the same for the motherboard. The HwINFO reported that this chipset is compatible with SATA 3. Everest shows that SSD SATA 2 data.

It's the bios locked for higher transfers? I got 180 MB/s read, 150 MB/write - what is 3 x worse than normal SATA 3 SSD 256 GB hard disks.

Can someone help me and tell - if it's the bios R850? or only the old SSD Toshiba firmware? If I buy the best SSD with SATA3 - it will fully support higher speed?

    Best regards

    Hello

I don't know Mr. what portable R850-xxx you but as far as I know, this series is equipped with one for the (Sandy Bridge) Intel i3/i5/i7 CPU.
The phone also supports either Intel Cougar Point QM67 (model TN) or HM65 (model no - AMT). The two supports SATA II (3 Gb/s) and SATA III (6 Gb/s)

But for example, if the host interface is 300 MB/s, you get experienced data reading: Max 250 MB/s and write data to sustain: Max 160 MB/s

  • Replace the chip AMD A8 with an AMD A10

HI, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on this.  I have a HP: 500-054 with an AMD A8 chip, I want to upgrade an A10.  Power and watts on socket are very good A10 uses the same power and is located in the path of upgrade for the Council of Eric on the 054.

My problem is that it looks like the factory used a thermal GLUE, instead of a paste.  When I opened the hood and went to remove the fan screws were already in bulk.  Unscrew more just to be sure and tried to remove the fan so I could replace the chip. I checked and recheck and nothing else is holds the fan.

So any suggestions on getting the fan assemble the CPU socket without damaging the motherboard?  He is stuck in solid and hoped that someone here would have a suggestion.

I'm not particularly intelligent or gifted. I'm just very, very curious.
    Albert Einstein

Thanks for the reply, I was upgrade the system to pull the max memory and put it into the higher A-series chip. A problem with the fan by pulling even after be unscrewed it wasn't pulling up if I could have access to the chip.

Regardless of the factory used as a thermal paste should be defined as super glue.  Shouldn't not concerned by the old A8 chip I replaced it anyway, so I unplugged the fan and run the PC for 15 minutes on a game with the unscrewed and disconnected fan.  Not something that I would normally do, but this has worked to build-up of heat allowed me to wiggle the fan a little and she appeared off the coast.

Thanks for your reply, the problem is resolved and the new chip Assembly and fan of the A10 is installed and works very well.  Note the A8 chip works well so I tested it on another PC so overheating does no damage.

  • EliteBook: 1 2 slots available SSD of EliteBook 8570w does not

    Hi all

I have a 8570w EliteBook using default HHD and bought 500 GB SSD value in one of two existing readers. I recently bought a second SSD to the second location available, but I can't seem to have it working (I place the SSD in the slot and all fine adjustments, but the system does not recognize).

Things, I've tried so far without success:

-Diskpart, miniTool Partition Wizard of Samsung

-Exchange the old SSD with a new one. New starts working while old stops working (which to me points out to a housing problem)

-Pic attached, with the (green) SSD slot and no working crack (red) - regardless if I change the SSD

is - it does not not by design? Is there a place where I have to put me on? Is there something we can do about it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Kind regards

    GS

    Hello

Sorry, I have to say: this slot (red) is for the WWAN card, not for a second SSD and no way you can install it on the SSD on it because not all PCIe slots are the same.

  • Want to 750-114: migrate another computer with SSD

    Hi all

Im trying to replace my old PC with this desire 750-114.  I have an SSD on my old PC and would like to just transfer the SSD to my envy again as the main drive.

I couldn't find any driver motherboard online and I don't want to clone the hard disk on my new PC I want to keep all the files on my old intact SSD.

is it possible to boot from my old SSD?

    Thank you!

    weidake

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your message want to migrate a SSD from one PC to another and wanted to help.

Simply boot the second PC since a SSD at the first - No..  IF the PC had identical hardware, then maybe, but with a different material, the necessary drivers will be missing and the PC does not start.

There is a way to actuall "migrate" from the old PC to the new one, using the same player - but it involves costs and considerable work.

Macrium Reflect allows image and restore the PC and they have an option that you can do whatever you want - mainly migrate everything from your old PC to the new - it's called the redeployment, and it is not available in the free version.  You must buy the Home version.

The way it works in your case is that you buy Mr., install on a PC and use the option to create the bootable rescue media.

Then you put the old SSD in the new PC, insert the bootable rescue media and boot into MR.

Once it is running (it may take a few minutes to load), follow the instructions in this thread (from step 3): http://www.macrium.com/help/v5/How_to/Redeploy/ReDeploy_a_system_to_new_hardware.htm

Mr. then read drivers (from support that you provide) and replace the drivers on the SSD with the drivers for the new PC.

NOTE: If you do not have the drivers for your new PC in one place, and then download and install DriverBackup - you can use this to backup all the drivers in a single folder.

But it's only PART of the solution (I said that some work is involved!)

The former DSS had active Windows using the license on the old PC - and OEM licenses are not transferable from one PC to another.

If the new PC is preinstalled with Win8x or newer, you can retrieve the info from following these instructions (based on 90 days version) license:

    (1) for Windows 8 x: key product - find for Windows 8

    (2) for Windows 10: download the OEM of Windows - MajorGeeks product key tool

You will then need to manually enter the product key found by the tool to activate Windows again on the new PC.

    Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.
