Review of application Fixpack, Service Pack

Hi all

Would you please share the consideration for the application of Group of hotfixes and Service Pack for Primavera P6.

Hello

As an overview I apply service packs, no matter what, whether their conduct. Fix Pack, I tend to deploy if the customer becomes a problem and error corrected in PS (patch and certainly only if the client gets the error).

The main reason I service packs regardless of whether she's going to correct something, it is quite feasible for them to be undocumented patches pushed through a service pack, it is less likely to be the case for a group of hotfixes/hotfix.

The only difference would be that if it's a whole new deployment then I often make the Service Packs and Packs of difficulty.

  • I can't install service pack 3, I get an error that ntkrnlpa.exe is in use by another application

I search on the forum and found that another user had the same problem but nobody answered.

What happened is that I had a few viruses that my computer shuts down completely.  I have simply no money to buy or update of protection against the virus at the moment.  So, my computer crashed.  Then I had to use my system restore disks to restore my computer.  Then, after that I restored my computer now goes to the blue screen and scans files each time.  At the end of the list is a message: unable to write to the boot sector (according to me, it is said).

Then I accidentally downloaded a virus.  He was disguised as a MS program and was called FixIt.  I couldn't get down there and he asked for credit card information.  I don't give any information and was able to use a browser to display the McAfee, then remove.  Then I used Malwarebytes to remove some other virus.  Not knowing what else to do, I tried to defrag and received an error message that my C: drive has been corrupted.

My CD Player no longer works and my computer has problems.  I thought that if I downloaded the FixIt problem, it could solve some of the problems it is to have my computer.  It won't work because I have not installed Service Pack 3.

When I try to intall Service Pack 3, it extracts files and brings me to setupwizard and then gets up to a certain point, and I get an error message as follows:

c:\windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe file is open or in use by another application.

I don't know what else to do.  I have everything turned off.  I tried to download and save to my desktop and it still won't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When I ran Process Explorer, I have disabled this file ntkrnlpa.exe.  I couldn't tell what was using this file - but I got the Google Redirect virus, so I thought that a virus has access to this file and prevents me from doing anything.  I don't know if that was the case, it was just my guess that it was what was going on.

It worked for me.  It temporarily disables this file and then you can install Service Pack 3.

I received instructions on my site quietfish.ca if you want to check.

    Hello

The error message "not a Win32 application invalid" is displayed on the Windows computers and can indicate a variety of problems. Win32 is part of the core of the Windows operating systems and programs installed on your computer must communicate with the kernel in order to work properly.

  • How to install Win7 64-bit Service Pack 1, updates and applications correctly

    What I want to do:

I have 2 x legitimate copies of Win 7 64 bit SP1 on DVD.  I want to install on 2 separate PC with new facilities.

The problem that I've encountered so far:

    I formatted the hard disk in the #1 PC, installed Win 7 SP1, install the drivers that came with the motherboard (with the series of reboots), active Windows and tried to run Windows updates before installing additional software.  Windows Update installed a 'Windows Client software update' update and then began the verification of updates.  However, it remains to check for updates for always)<17 hours). ="" windows="" update="" shouldn't="" have="" choked="" at="" this="" early="" stage,="" so="" something="" has="" changed="" on="" the="" microsoft="" side="" of="" things. ="" i="" know="" that="" the="" hardware="" is="" fine="" because="" i="" had="" win="" 7="" on="" it="" prior="" and="" i="" ran="" diagnostics="" on="" it="" to="" be="" sure. ="" a="" full="" a/v="" scan="" was="" performed="" to="" ensure="" everything="" is="" clean. ="" i="" haven't="" started="" pc="" #2="">

    My question:

What is the proper sequence of steps to get Windows 7 SP1, updates, MS Office, 3rd the party games (ex: WoW, SC-2, Diablo 3, steam), McAfee A / V, etc., installed clean so that my PC run smooth?  I know that some software requires that a specific minimum version of .NET installed, so the installation sequence is important.  I will be formatting the drive on PC #1 once again before a new attempt.

I have the original driver/utility DVD that come with motherboards and I have the updated drivers downloaded from the Asus site.  Each drive has 2 partitions.  Partition-1, drive C is for Win 7 OS, and it is marked as active/bootable.  Partition-2, drive D is where the updated motherboard drivers.  Both partitions are formatted with NTFS file systems.

    Thanks in advance.

We have progress!  Found 112 updates and I started the download.  Thanks to André and J.W. Stuart.  It took like 5 to 7 hours to produce a list of the updates after you install the update rollup.  Either way, I found the following article, shortly before I met the answers here:

    http://www.MakeUseOf.com/tag/convenience-rollup-halfs-Windows-7-SP1-installation-time/

After reading the article and the responses, I thought the rollup was the right path to take and ran with it.  I installed the battery update before the update rollup.  No errors were encountered during the installation of these two elements.

    Finally...

1 - Microsoft needs to get their Tech chat based personal support off this dry and outdated script they use.  They need to know about the method of rollup.  However, the tech. I met in a chat session before coming here, was quite distraught and kept asking to do a remote desktop session, even if I refused 3 times.  A tech polished, very persistent but distraught.  The chat session was not my home PC on a PC at work.

can 2 - I get a good Service Pack 2 for Windows 7, please?  Make available via a file down to local facilities, do so in Windows Update and download for Win 7 64 Service Pack 2 DVD image.

    3. he does really not take 5 + hours to produce a list of the necessary updates.  The Windows Update client should really be changed to show some real status beyond this silly green bar.  I think it is that a Client of Windows Update request is sent to Microsoft, and this request is pending.  The queue is probably priority based with Windows 10 get a higher priority on Windows 7 (Microsoft bias?).  Even if my theory of priority queue is correct, turn around time on the application is properly synchronized in a world of Gigabit Ethernet, 5 G WI - FI and cheap access broadband I have-net.

4 10/Windows... too many questions/gripes to speak, but I leave it on the table.  Win 8/10 looks blocky with less of its border, for windows/AC tablets.  This isn't a modern user interface.  The user interface is dumbed-down and is reminiscent of Windows 3.11, or as it is a cobbled together collection of JavaScript in the browser user interface.  The menu start alone is a huge waste of time resources CPU and memory.  Windows 7 semi-translucides borders please.  No cost and no hassle.

  • Running Exchange Server application of hotfixes and service pack to the server mailbox without loss of data during the restore?

    People,

I would like to know how can I safely ask the Exchange Server service pack or cumulative update for the server role mailbox (no DAG) without loss of e-mail during the downtime and roll back the snapshot?

If I can do the following:

    1. stop all Exchange Server services.

    2. unplug the vNIC on the mailbox server

3 take a snapshot of the virtual machine

    4. apply the service Pack of Exchange Server / Cumulative Update or Windows Update

    5 reset

6 reconnect the vNIC, if the server online with no problem, commit / remove the snapshot, if not, then disconnect the vNIC followed to restore.

would be - this sense being or support for Vmware and Microsoft http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/exchange-2010-on-vmware-support-and-licensing-guide.pdf ?

If yu have any other suggestions, please let me know here.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey AlbertWT,

I'll start by saying that I would not do.  Microsoft is explicit that snapshots are not supported with Exchange when virtualized.  See below (from Exchange 2013 Virtualization: help Exchange 2013):

Some hypervisors include features to take snapshots of virtual machines. Virtual machine snapshots capture the State of a virtual machine while it is running. This feature allows you to take several snapshots of a virtual machine and then return the virtual machine to a previous state by applying a snapshot to the virtual machine. However, virtual machine snapshots aren't application aware, and using them can have unintended and unexpected consequences for a server application that manages the data of the State, such as Exchange. Accordingly, making snapshots of the virtual machine to a virtual guest computer Exchange only is not supported.

Even if we ignore the statement of support from shadow copies that isn't always a good idea.  Here are some things to consider.

    (1) cumulative updates for the Exchange to modify the Active Directory schema.  Roll back the snapshot on the mailbox server is not undo changes made to RFA, which could cause functional supported questions.  See this link to give you an idea of how there is pattern AD updates in each CU Exchange and service pack: the Active Directory in Exchange 2013 schema changes: Exchange 2013 help

    (2) it is possible to send to come during the time you test the update, and if you need to restore you would need a plan to retrieve this e-mail.  Third party services may work, or you can prevent the email to come in your environment completely during this period, but these aren't the ideal solutions.

A much better solution would be to create a lab environment that is isolated from the production.  You can either take clones of your Exchange and AD VMs and put them in a closed network environment, or create a laboratory and import the structure of your ad if it matches the production.  I think it is a much better way to test than to try to rely on stereotypes in production.

    Hope that helps!

    Matt

  • The installation of Service Pack 3 for XP, I get an internal error that smss.exe is running and close all other applications. All applications are closed. Anyone else seen this error?

Is it safe to run an online scan to see if the smss.exe is a virus?  or do I remove smss.exe?  or is there a workaround?

I think that a 'wipe & reload"would be the most effective way to restore your computer to a fully functional State and without infection, Smitz.

  • the need for victory. XP pro. service pack 3 to service pack 2

    Hello
I use desktop PC Pentium 4 (32-bit), my OS is windows XP Professional with service pack 2 is already installed.

Automatic update windows has already downloaded service pack 3 on my computer and installation pending.

I don't know if I need this service pack 3 when I already have service pack 2, installed in my system.

Then what should I do? If I install SP3 then what happens to the already installed SP2.

Is it posible to delete the downloaded SP3 which has not yet been installed.

I don't know what to do, can anyone advice me whether to install SP3 or remove it?

Yes, you need to install SP3. Computers running under that WinXP SP2 will NOT be offered additional updates of security reviews, automatic updates will stop working, and the Windows Update Web site will not be available after April 12, 2010, until that SP3 is installed.

SP3 will replace SP2 and SP3 can be uninstalled, if necessary.

Temporarily disable all real-time protections offered by your antivirus application, all anti-spyware applications and third-party firewall before installing SP3.  If you disable a third party firewall, make sure that you then enable the Windows Firewall: the machine must not be connected to the internet without a firewall active.

After installed SP3 and rebooted twice, check that your coverage in real time has been re-enabled; If you have disabled a third party firewall, remember to re - enable and disable the Windows Firewall.

Free installation and unlimited compatibility support for WinXP SP3 is available since April 14, 2008 to May 2009.  This support will cost you 59 US$ per incident now.

Suggestions on how should I proceed?  My error could be the result somehow of a virus or a problem in the registry?

    Hi YihDzelonh,

Thank you for your answer please, let's try to keep the tone professional and on topic.

Based on the question and the information that you have given the community that we will try to help as much as we can.

First of all, I would like to clarify a few things so that we can diagnose this problem properly.

It seems that you have your installation of windows on another partition (since show you that the application in use is: f:\windows\system32\smss.exe)

That being the case are there other operating systems you use on different partitions?

I also found that generally when this error is given when it tries to install SP3 there may be another program that runs in the context that you're not actively access. It could be something as simple as the 3rd party registry, Antivirus or cleaner programs. You have an any of them installed or were there any installed? If yes which where they? How long they have been installed?

This system has already been infected by a Virus? (or if there are other operating systems was an any of them)

This article also explains what may happen: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315

Also just so that you can receive the best possible help could you please put what where when you have performed the steps in the KB provided by Imran.

  • Please, help me to install the a security update for Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954459)

I am running Windows XP Professional SP2 (32 bit).  My Windows Update is configured to inform me of updates that are available and to wonder what to do each time.

For the last two months I have problems with these two updates:

    1. Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2 (KB973686)
    2. a security update for Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954459)

Two of them are available for me to download and install every time I connect to the Internet. I always choose download and then install. The first update is always installed successfully, but continues to offered to me AGAIN and AGAIN. I have reviewed my story to update on the Microsoft Update site, where I can see that this update has been installed successfully for more than 10 times. But the continuous automatic updates offering him.

Problem with the second update (a security update for Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954459)) is worse still - IT STILL FAILS.  During the installation process, I get no error message, but in the end, I always get:
«Updates could not be installed...» The following updates were not installed:
A security update for Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954459)
    ".»
Of course, in my history of editing, he still has the red icon, and the error Code is 0 x 643.

I tried to install it manually, so I downloaded the Service Pack msxml6-KB954459-enu - x 86 .exe (981 KB) from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=59914795-60c7-4ebe-828d-f28cb457e6e3&displaylang=en
But when I ran it, I got this message:
"Installation of MSXML 6 Service Pack 2 (KB954459) failed because a newer version already exists on the machine. "To continue, uninstall the higher version and re-run the installation of MSXML 6 Service Pack 2 (KB954459) program."

I don't understand.  I thought this msxml6-KB954459-enu - x 86 .exe installation file for the update of safety only, but it has proved to be the Setup for the entire application.  And that means this "version more?  How did get on my computer?  And what do I need to uninstall?  In my Add/Remove Programs list that I don't have that:
    -MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB954430)
    -MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB973688)
    -MSXML 6 Service Pack 2 (KB973686)

In my System32 folder, I have a file called msxml6.dll (created: 19 08.2009).  On the Properties dialog Version tab, I see that its version is 6.20.1076.0;  If that matters.

    My security programs are:
    -BitDefender Total Security 2010
    -Malwarebytes AntiMalware
    -Online Armor ++ Firewall
(They are all up to date and none of them has ever interfered with the installation of any update of Windows or Microsoft).

    Can someone tell me please:
    1. What can I do to make the installation of this update for Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2 security
    (KB954459) succeed?
    2. what to do with an another update (update for Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2 (KB973686)) which
constantly is available once again, although my editing history shows that it is installed successfully?

    And another question:

These two updates prevent the automatic updates to offer upgrade to SP3 of XP?  I am currently on SP2, but I really need to upgrade to SP3; not only because support for SP2 has stopped, but more because there are more programs that require SP3 must be installed.  A month ago, automatic updates offered the update to SP3, but the installation failed for an unknown reason ("... the system could not find the specified file.").  I'm wrong if I think it will be offered me again only after I install these two updates correctly?
