Right click on (some) files causes crash/restart explorer.exe

Someone help with this one?

In the last two days, my explore crashes whenever I do a right click on a folder (rename or get properties, etc.)

However, it is always odd.

If I click Start > computer, I see the list of files, etc. and readers network I'm connected to. TreeView on the left in the components of the right files.

Fault, click in the pane left Local disk C, the right pane then shows AMD, inetpub progdata etc., as usual. If I right click on a folder in the right pane, I see the long popup that allows me to remove, rename, open, or view the properties, it's good.

If I right-click a folder in the left pane and right click on "Windows Explorer has stopped working", it reboots. Why is this happening?

doing a scannow - nothing reported.

The event viewer of the time, I get a crash shows.

The failing application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 6.1.7601.17567, time stamp: 0x4d672ee4

Any ideas? Don't seem to be able to find cures for similar problems.

Thanks to the adv.

Fix! 3rd party offering.

Posted a request here on a problem with McAfee site Advisor and tabulation error and told me Oh, you have installed McAfee/Norton, it is the seed of Satan, you'll die if you use it, your children will have boils.

So I took it, fine, then I installed Spybot S & D, which seems to have given my children of boils.

This fault appeared, while S & D was the only other change I have meade, I deleted and look! My folder options are back.

Thasnk for the info, new tools and options are always useful.

  • Right-click on any file or folder in Windows Explorer causes closing.

    Hello.
is my windows: XP SP3 (with the latest updates)

whenever I do a right-click on any file or folder in Explorer, display this error:

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I can't do any process on my files (rename, delete, copy, paste,...)

    error report contains:
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.5512 ModName: unknown
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000000

This looks like a problem with the Extension of Shell.

To resolve, download the freeware "ShellExView".

When you run it, it will give the list all extensions of shell on your computer.  You start by selectively the deactivation and activation of extensions until you find the (s) which is causing your problem.  Start by turning off all non-Microsoft (right click on a line-> disable) extensions and see if your problem persists.  If it isn't, then re-enable the disabled in small groups until you narrow down which is causing your problem.

  • Windows Explorer closes and restarts (?) when I right click on a file photo.

One time, I installed a software to go with a slide scanner. The software changed to the default program for photo files and then proceeds to seize up after that about 12 slides have been scanned. I removed the software, but every time I do a right-click on a file photo, jpeg, gif, bitmap, etc., or try to open the file menu when one is highlighted, close all Windows Explorer Windows and icons in the taskbar and desktop disappear for a while. The last two return after a minute or two, but not all open windows. Other programs such as Internet Explorer or MS Word are not affected.

I suspect that the defective scanner software installed an entry in the context menu. Search for it and delete it using the ShellExView free program:

    Hi DickCookVS

If the offline files option is disabled, you will need to enable it, if you want to work with files offline to a network folder.

    a. open offline files by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type offline filesand then in the list of results, click manage offline files.

    b. on the general tab, click enable offline files.

You will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
