RMAN cumulative problem

I use a backup strategy incremental cumulative rman.

I thought that each cumulative backup level 1 more level 0 who was caught before it, would be enough to restore the database.

When I run the script that removes the old backupsets (former level1s) and the previous archivelogs. It does not remove
the previous level1, so in the end, the use of the disc of the location of the rman, is growing rapidly.

In this connection, there is an explanation
http://www.ora00600.com/scripts/RMAN/Cumul...al_backups.html.

So I would like to know, if my experience is correct, and if you want to restore a cumulative 1 level, rman will not erase the previous backupsets level1 because they may be needed during recovery.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

That behavior is expected, it is related to the point-in-time recovery. You have 1 redundancy, it must be possible to go back in time to the last backup backups + required level 1 to level 0.
Let's say you make a level 0 backup Sunday, then Monday for cumulative level 1 backups Saturday. Now, you decide, for example, Friday, you will need to go back to Tuesday. To do this, you definitely need archivelogs and the previous incremental backups. You cannot use the last cumulative backup from Thursday. After another level 0 backups, previous level 0 and all backup level 1 next + archivelogs become obsolete - but not before.

    is hurt by the logic and the reason for the question.

    And invite you to use
    ARCHIVELOG backup until time ' sysdate-1' remove all entries;
    or
    delete any backup archivelog entry;

    without a doubt, which do not serve the purpose.
    The logic that needs to be implemented is
    I need to backup all archivelogs and remove the archivelogs until sysdate-1...
    How can I do this? Help, please...

    Concerning
    Renjith Malet
    backup database FILESPERSET 20 ;
    backup archivelog all;
    delete noprompt archivelog all completed before 'sysdate-1';

    seems OK. However, to make sure you can also change the last of them to

    delete noprompt archivelog all completed before 'sysdate-1' backed up 1 times to disk;

    which guarantees that an archivelog is removed only if it has been saved successfully (for example the day before).

  • RMAN duplicate problem ORA-01547, different, different sid of the box

    Hello!

    We have used for a long time in DOUBLES for the daily backup/restore checking our PROD instance on another instance (sid different - different from the box). Our RMAN backup is on daily basis and full (not increment).

    Backup starts every day at 02:00 and ends approximately 04:10. Naturally, we use the (CATDB) catalog database on the other server.

    We use for version 7.2 archiving system Legato. All databases (10.2.0.2) are on Linux RH EE 4.5 64bits. Catalog db (CATDB) is on XE 2.0 (free version) on Linux RH EE 4.5 32-bit.

    Statistics are based on the weekly level on CATDB and PROD (target) according to all books...

    All eyes by the book...

    For a long time, we have not had any more problems (duplicate sometimes failed, but we thought that no need to worry about 'some' problems). But recently we had more fruitless duplicates in a short period of time.

    In the file is a log of these unsuccessful duplicates:
    http://rapidshare.com/files/181623335/duplicate_problem.txt.html

    All the time it looks like when recover part should be given, there is no log archived in backup file!

    If I try immediately after restore archive only logs:
    RUN {
      allocate channel t1 type 'SBT_TAPE';
      send 'NSR_ENV=(NSR_SERVER=zzz.hypohr,NSR_CLIENT=xxy)';
      SET ARCHIVELOG DESTINATION TO '/u01/lun0/dolly/arch';
      RESTORE ARCHIVELOG TIME BETWEEN "TO_DATE('2008-01-09 02:00:00','yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss')" AND "TO_DATE('2008-01-09 04:40:00','yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss')";
      release channel t1;
    }
    I get all archive logs required to manually restore the database (recover using backup controlfile before...).

    I was validating backup and perfect look... (you sent the newspaper).

    I was researching the problem and find out who is really some errors reported in our catalog database (Journal of the auxiliary looks OK as well target instance alerts).

    In RMAN. ISR table I get records that had problems. Attached paper is based on the following sql:
    SELECT
       ROWID, R.RSR_KEY, R.DBINC_KEY, R.RSR_RECID,
       R.RSR_STAMP, R.RSR_PKEY, R.RSR_L0KEY,
       R.RSR_LEVEL, R.RSR_TYPE, R.RSR_OPER,
       R.RSR_CMDID, R.RSR_STATUS, R.RSR_MBYTES,
       R.RSR_START, R.RSR_END, R.RSR_IBYTES,
       R.RSR_OBYTES, R.RSR_OPTIMIZED, R.RSR_OTYPE,
       R.RSR_SRECID, R.RSR_SSTAMP, R.RSR_ODEVTYPE
    FROM RMAN.RSR R
    Where
    RSR_OPER = 'RMAN'
    AND RSR_STATUS like '%ERROR%'
    http://rapidshare.com/files/181625271/RMAN_rsr_errors.txt.html

    I tried to reproduce by hand (restore files of data through RMAN restore RMAN archived logs, recover by sqlplus) works just like a charm!

    Is there a way someone tell me where to start digging to find out why some duplicates completed with errors.

    THX

    The log shows duplicate process begins @ 10:19, newspapers from 04:02-10:02 "expected" so on the tape.

    I think that the errors that appear in the newspaper had to be addressed. Something seems to start running at 04:50 & 09:20 and it produces errors?

  • RMAN switch problem.

    Hi guys, I use a CAR with 2 nodes, Oracle Database 10 g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.5.0 with Linux [a test environment].
    I train in RMAN situations... I was using the comand of switch.
    I did this:
    RUN {
    BACKUP DATAFILE 77;
    SQL 'ALTER TABLESPACE NOVO_TBS OFFLINE';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 77 TO '/u01/backup/rman/teste/dfile77_novotbs.abc'
    RESTORE DATAFILE 77;
    SWITCH DATAFILE 77;
    RECOVER DATAFILE 77;
    SQL 'ALTER TABLESPACE NOVO_TBS ONLINE'
    }
    It worked, the data file left ASM to the file system.
    I've done some DML statements in the segments of this data file, and it worked as expected.

    Later, another person tried to do a select dba_tablespaces and got this error:
    ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 77 - see DBWR trace file
    ORA-01110: data file 77: ' / u01/backup/rman/teste/dfile77_novotbs.abc'

    Then, I tried in my machine and it is so.
    I know that I could put this data file offline and kept operating normally or even upgrade the data file to ASM [works].

    But I want to test it on the file system.

    I checked it on the rman:
    rman target /
    report schema;
    List of permanent data files

    78 1000 SYSTEM * +DATA/atrac/datafile/system.338.783883557

    Anyone know the reason?

    Hi Bruno.
    Forget the semaphores and file descriptors for now.
    I suppose that when you move the file to the ASM files/u01 system you can only see on Atrac1 or Atrac2 but not on both (Please also check the timstamp of the file).
    RAC to your data files on the cluster file systems so that both instances can read and update files.

    Make sure that you should not use the password file that is located under /dbs. There is a folder called "database", where a password file must have been already generated at installation time. Simply copy the file to the same location on the standby node. I hope it should work now.

    Monday level 1 cumulative 4 GB
    Tuesday cumulative level 1 > > 2GB < <

So, not being able to ask the guy who created this, "why is it NOARCHIVELOG, especially when the value for incremental backups, I put these here:
    1. go to ARCHIVELOG?
    2. enlarge the flash_recovery_area to get these backups, first working?

    You can make incremental backups in noarchivelog mode - it's just that the database must be in editing mode. But I agree - except when the data is not important (and if you take backups, then it seems to be important) I have the database in archivelog mode.

    Hello;

    I don't know I would use sqlplus to solve a problem of RMAN. At the end of the day, you still have to use RMAN to connect.

    You can debug by taking:

    rman target sys/oracle@orcl auxiliary sys/oracle@ORCL_STBY trace=duplicate.trc

    And then just try:

    rman target sys/oracle@orcl

    Assuming this works, you can refine the RMAN connection problem.

    Connection string your RMAN:

    rman target sys/oracle@orcl auxiliary sys/oracle@ORCL_STBY trace=duplicate.trc

    Is different from the ones I use:

    rman target sys/password@PRIMARY auxiliary /

    OR

    rman target=sys/password@primary auxiliary=sys/password@standby

    In addition, you must have a static entry on the side of the day before, so you have something to connect to:

    Example of

    LISTENER =
        (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
          (DESCRIPTION =
            (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = )(PORT = 1521))
          )
        )

    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
        (SID_LIST =
          (SID_DESC =
          (global_dbname = STANDBY_DGMGRL.hostname)
          (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2)
          (sid_name = STANDBY)
          )
          (SID_DESC =
          (global_dbname = STANDBY.hostname)
          (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2)
          (sid_name = STANDBY)
    )

    The listener must be restarted to see this entry.

    The tnsnames.ora will also the entries for two databases as both sides need to connect.

    Keys to success

    1. new Eve started NOMOUNT on new password file. (So the watch is a current master password renames and then the database started in NOMOUNT use it)
    2. hard coded listener on the new standby server.
    3 fix the tnsnames.ora files.
    4 fix the command duplicate.

    Best regards

    My problem is... I m unable to set the DBID of my prod db, RMAN (catalog) connects to itself as the target of DB,.

    Any guys help?

    Looks like you have connected only to the catalog database.

    do not forget to target = database to restore

    so you should

    (1) set ORACLE_SID = db restore
    (2) rman
    target connection.
    Connect catalog...

    If I set the format by default %U work string. Can someone help me? The sting of format I used on the database under Linux works fine without any problems.

    Hi faisal.badrom,
    Can you be more specific on the 'format string to meet backup requirement standards "?
    Are you allowed to jump ">".< :"="">
    If you can use:

    format 'D:\ora\rmanbackup\RCKLGC_INC_%s_%T_%p.dbf '.

    Or to extend it again with the name of the database:

    format 'D:\ora\rmanbackup\RCKLGC_INC_%s_%T_%p_%d.dbf '.

    to meet the standard?

    Kind regards
