root > \system32/had.dll message after power failure.

After power failure, I got the above message.  I tried to rebuild the CD system following the instructions Microsoft but still can't het PC to start.  Any ideas anyone?

Thank you

Since you didn't say what were these instructions, we do not know what you were doing!

You need to start the recovery console, run chkdsk r, then /Rebuild. bootcfg The first part can be read here:

http://www.icompute.info/System_restore_from_xp_cd.htm

You will need to understand how your PC (you neglected to tell us the make, model and model number!) can boot from the CD-ROM. Then, run the Recovery Console. DO NOT ENTER THE INSTALLER! (If you do, you run the risk to wipe your entire disk clean!) Follow the indications of the above page and then stops after having successfully performed chkdsk/r. In other words, don't do the fixmbr part!

Then, for the second part, read here:

http://www.icompute.info/halldll_error.htm

Restart the PC in the usual way (that is, start with the hard drive) and let us know if you are at the back of buisiness.

    Fortunately, not all is lost here for you. You have several options. You will need to create a CD of the utility. (1), you can boot from a usb flash drive and run utility Cd or 2) you can buy a removable usb device cd rom and there. It's the best option, but instructions differ radically, so I need to know which is your choice of boot options to help you. You won't have a windows disk to perform the procedure.

    I have problems to restart of Yosemite, after power failure during the new backup, and now HD is also blocked.

    I tried the holding of 'command-r' and 'option' to see if the problem can be resolved or try any boot from a boot disk, my old backup, USB function start - but after a slow long process it all just stops.

    I was trying to stop some HP programs to start when I start my desktop computer. I did the following: start > run > msconfig.  Click on startup and unchecked HP four applications. Restarted my desktop computer and immediately had a black screen with the following message:

    I can't do anything in Safe Mode or one of the other options. Cannot re - install Windows XP Home Edition because Windows or Internet Explorer 8 will not run. Only the black screen and the message mentioned above.

    I use a desktop Dell Dimension 8400 computer.

    [1] Just finished everything on your step 10. I went with the Microsoft Security Essentials.

    [2] I still need to download site driver Dell trying to correct this "floppy seek failure pilot 1,2 and 3 not found: ATX, SATA 1, 2 and 3' problem"

    [3] I just got e-mail from Microscoft response that the thread that I created has been deleted, so I answer to you of a past replica.

    Wanted [4] Thank you for your time and patience to help me. Is there something else to do for me, you can recommend?

    A1. Wise move IMHO. The computer seems "snappier" now?

    A2. I can't imagine that another owner of a Dimension 8400 (or 4800?) has not encountered this problem before. Discover (i.e., search) the Dell office equipment forum: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514.aspx. If necessary, start your own new thread (registration required).

    A3. If you start another thread on the computer, I have posted a reply to this & you asked to publish a follow-up replies to your original thread. [?]

    A4. Welcome & thank you for your comments.

    In fact, there is something else you may need to do: it turns out that KB2607712 is replaced by the KB2616676 in Vista & Win7; Windows XP needs to have both installed [despite the mention you referred in your post on September 14, above] !!!

    => So if Update for Windows XP (KB2607712) is NOT listed in Add/Remove Programs, you will need to manually download/install a revised version [long story, involved - you don't want to know]:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ACTIONS:
    1. open Internet Explorer to http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=27244 & click on the button CONTINUE.
    2. after VALIDATION, download the installer for KB2607712 & save it to your desktop - NOT run again!
    3. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).
    4. double-click on the file that you saved in #2 above to install the update. Follow all the instructions (reboot required).
    5. check that the Update for Windows XP (KB2607712) is now listed in Add/Remove programs.
    PS: If you have NO Office or Silverlight or any installed Windows Live Essentials application, I can tell you how to start your Windows XP computer & full load more quickly.
  • UEFI auto turn on after power failure
    I bought a desktop computer HP Pavillion PC500-225es (have a holiday home in Spain where the suffix are).
    It is running Windows 8.1 equipped a UEFI BIOS.
    I want the PC automatically restarts when power is restored after a power failure, but I don't see any option to do this in the UEFI BIOS. Is it normal for a UEFI BIOS? I have had many computers with a BIOS for old style and that I can remember all had the ability to set the auto restart after power fail.
    I don't know how a UEFI BIOS integrates with Windows 8.1 but I see no option for this in point 8.1 of Windows either.
    Someone at - it ideas?
    In addition, because the PC was bought in Spain, the BIOS is in Spanish. It seems not be anyway to change that in English, my native language. Not a big problem I can get in Spanish and may apply to the Google translate if I have to, but it would be easier if there was an option to switch to English.
    I ran the HP Support Assistant, and everything is up-to-date, there is no update to download BIOS.
    I guess I'm just stuck with the situation unless HP come with an update of the BIOS to add installation.
    Please see the BIOS for the motherboard Jasmine settings the settings you are looking for. Although this document is intended for the 'Jasmine' motherboard and your computer uses the "JasmineR', the settings should be similar if not the same thing.
    To access the BIOS Setup page... "Turn on the computer and immediately press the F10 key repeatedly, once per second, until the opening of the Computer Configuration utility."
    The following options are found in the Power Options:
    Messages POST (Power On Self Test) Turn on or off
    After the loss of power Previous state, or disable
    POSITION of delay (in seconds) Zero, 5, 10, 15, 20 or 60 seconds
  • VMTMS not showing running, not installed, VM TCS after power failure by giving two fake ips
    Nice day
    In fact, we had a power failure at our DC and after restarting servers, 2 of them you have the problem.
    UCS after the beginning of the VMTMS v 14.4.2 showing in summary "does not installed ' and no Ping able.but I can access Internet by IP however.
    TCS giving 2 Fake ips also.
    I just checked our vTCS, it shows only a single IP address.  If the server has more than one virtual nicinstalled, you can probably remove the sound that shouldn't be there.  Although I'm not a VMWare administrator, so I can't say for sure, comparing what has my TCS.
  • Fans always operate at high speed after power failure
    HP Pavilion Slimline S5780T - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    After a power failure a night or more recent, our Pavilion Slimline case fan and CPU fan have both run at high speed all the time, starting from the system. The level of noise is intolerable.
    I opened and cleaned all the dust from the inside of the case, including the removal of the heatsink from the CPU. Everything is clean.
    I ran the following HP Vision diagnostic, test the system, including fans. During the test of fan, the fans ran at 100%, then fell to the former level normal, quiet, then ramp back up to 100%. So says HP fans diagnostic tests are OK when there is always a problem. And it is possible for them to run at slow, normal speed.
    I installed the free SpeedFan utility, but there is not place to adjust the fan speed manually.
    How can I find the problem and the fans run at normal speed, as they did before the power failure? Everything that controls the speed of the CPU fan and the fan is broken.
    Thank you and best regards,
    Stephen - Myrtle Beach, SC
    Strange things happen when power flucuations or failures occur.  Most probably the motherboard has been damaged by the PPE and that is normally not as repairable by a DIY.  If you could find a newer BIOS, that to solve the problem.  Since there can be no more recent BIOS, try to remove the battery from the motherboard for the night and then put the file in and reset the BIOS to see if that helps the default value.  Otherwise, it might be repairable.
  • No sound on Satellite a series after power failure
    I had power failure and displays now the peripheral output put no audio.
    I have tried the drivers but not find.
    Any help please
    Is what model? PSA? -??????
    The audio chip may have been damaged due to advanced/power surge, requiring a motherboard replacement.
    Search for C:\TOSAPINS audio driver or download the driver here http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
    You can also try a fresh install of windows. back up your data and run recovery now zero for the market. If the audio still does not work, then its most likely a hardware problem.
    Also update the BIOS, but I doubt that would help.
