Run a virtual machine with a graphical interface on a host without GUI

Hallo

I want to install a simple Windows 7 for some tasks bit where I need Windows on my server Ubuntu 14.04. This server has no GUI (no X) and should have any.

Already, I've installed the virtual Windows machine on my workstation to 12, so I would just copy the vmdk on my linux server and run it, maybe put something in the vmx file.

But I do not know is that it's all means possible.

Is it?

Is there any player or any application for ubuntu VMware when there is no X system (on ubuntu), where I can run virtual machines with GUI inside?

Maybe another virtualization tool, vmware not?

I think that this exact question already somewhere, but I haven't found much question where comments lacking a GUI, but not the host.

I need a guest-gui on a host without gui (where I have only the terminal).

So maybe it's not possible at all, so please tell me a 'no', so I won't expect more

Thank you to

Frank

EDIT: oh, this seems to be another question unanswered it is too difficult or too stupid?

Hi Frank,.

Now that would be stupid, having a text Installer, and then not allow the virtual machine to run. I think it should work, but you must pass the nogui option.

Vmrun help:

The default graphical user interface option starts the machine in an interactive way,

What is necessary to display a user interface of VMware.

Nogui option suppresses the user interface,

[gui | nogui]

refer to the manual of vmrun: VIX API Documentation

Edit: hmm... Now, I see that you have already tried the nogui option. You might be able to install the package libxinerama, but he could hang out in a lot of dependencies.

FWIW, vSphere is pretty much what you describe a system not GUI to run GUI invited, so it shouldn't be a problem at all.

Unfortunately, I don't have a host linux without X installed handy here, so can't test here without the implementation of a server without head myself.

You can also try to run the client via the command vmware:

Well, let's see...  Oh yes, activate it!

BTW this is not a question of VMware itself as Windows product activation is a Microsoft problem whatever we're running Windows on a physical or a virtual machine.  Except run the Boot Camp partition as a Virtual Machine where the VMware Tools manages the database WPA to allow a start both in native and virtual mode, it would be the extent of the share of VMware in the present itself and the rest to you as a user to deal with Microsoft with.

  • I need to run a virtual machine, hyper v on my windows machine 8 with workstation 10

I know that I can run a virtual machine in hyper v in v hyper customer, my question is if I turn the functionality hyper v on this will affect my 10 workstation install?

As far as I know, that you can no longer start the vmx86 kernel driver once the HyperV role is activated.
In previous HyperV versions that you could use a special startup parameter to disable the HyperV role for the next boot - so that you can run Workstation - but I don't know if it still works.

So to summarize: HyperV and workstation cannot co-exist and be used one after the other - at the very least a reboot is required

  • How can I transfer a file from the operating system to a backup of the production running VM virtual machine?

Problem:  After I do a backup one using ghettoVCB on a local VMFS volume, I have a virtual machine that I can start something happened to that running.  However, sometimes I just need a file from the OS level, which means that I would need to start to get them, but then I have an IP address conflict.  I can't imagine a way to have the NICs turned off and still be able to move the file.  If I change the IP addresses, the software that I need to create the file that I need to transfer no longer works because, although there no need of constant connectivity to the seller, it is locked to the public IP address.http://communities.vmware.com/images/emoticons/sad.gif

Material:  I have two 4 ESXi hosts to work, each with local VMFS volumes.  They share a private vlan common and a vlan common public.  They each ssh, ftp, wput, wget, and rsync available.  I have a Windows 2003 Server VM which also hosts a NFS and the VI client and other VMWare tools.  It also has private and public interfaces as do virtual machines that would be to make and receive the OS files.

Question:  How can I transfer a file from the operating system to a backup of the production running VM virtual machine?

    Thank you!

Yes Mr President, make sure you set the network on this virtual machine to be connected to the 'Internal' vswitch, you set up before turning the power on to the virtual machine.

    Hello, brisketx-

You could do a little more efficiently by getting first the VMHost (s) that are of interest, then get their virtual machines and then using a computed property for the names of network for virtual machines.  As:

    Get-VMHost esx.local | Get-VM |    Select-Object Name, @{n="NetworkName"; e={(Get-NetworkAdapter -VM $_ | %{$_.NetworkName}) -join ","}}

You can then, of course, lead to Export-Csv to write the data to a CSV file.  How does do for you?

  • URGENT! After installing 6 Fusion and creation of new virtual machine with Windows 7, I get a message "VMware Fusion cannot enter the unit". WHAT SHOULD DO?

After purchase, installation and activation Fusion 6 with the license key, I had a library of VMS showing 2 Boot Camp partitions. It's strange that I only have 1.
I tried to activate them but received a message that it is out of date in 2 cases. (see annex 1)

I started a new virtual machine with a Windows 7 installation disc directly on my HD. I have provided a way to do this and followed the instructions of Fusion to the screen.

Apparently, everything went well and after several restarts, the installation appears to be over (see annex 2) I tried to open and run the installed Windows 7. I had however a window with the following message:

    "Pending the unit.

"VMware Fusion cannot enter the unit. Please wait until the unit starts automatically, or interact with the virtual machine below. ' (see annex 3)

Here Windows 7 seems to start but after a while with the home screen and of the Øresund finishing this window closed and open a new window called library Virtual Machine on the left showing the partitions of Bootcamp and the Virtual Machine Windows 7 x 64 and in the middle gray a representation of what is supposed to be the Windows 7 desktop. (see Exhibit 4). When I opened the settings button a window with different setting options pops up. This mark means to me that Windows is installed but the final opening isn't the case

When you quit Vmware Fusion indeed Windows seems to be close (see part 5)

What is going on? What has gone wrong? What should I do? I don't know how to solve the problem.

I should f.i. remove the virtual machine from Windows 7 and is free automatically made partition on my HD as the reboot with the Windows installation disc? or y at - it another way to enter the UNIT?

    Help, please!

    Thanks in advance

Your virtual machine is running. It is in the unit - which each windows gets its own window of Mac - and you have no application Windows running, there is no visible windows. You can start a Windows application in the start of Fusion menu in the menu bar at the top right, or turn on the Windows task bar on the view menu and start applications from there. Or use the view menu to switch to the Single mode or full-screen, which puts all of your Windows desktop in a window separate from Mac.

You do not have two partitions to Boot Camp on your Mac, you have two virtual machines named "Boot Camp partition".

The message about it being unable to enter the unit arrives while the merger is pending for the tools begin to run, because the tool is necessary for the unit.

  • How to export/import a virtual machine with ESXi 5

I use the free version of ESXi 5 and have created a virtual machine that is configured with the software for our project. I would like to share this virtual machine with other members of the team, some of whom are in other places and have slow network connections.  I want to pack the VM in a reasonable size file or a set of files I could ftp (or put it on DVD for people in areas of slow network) that they could then import into their ESXi hosts. The virtual machine has a 60 GB drive that is implemented by using the option 'thin', so it contains only 6 or 7 GB of real data right now.  Is it possible to export the image to a file or set of files that can be imported to another people ESXI host?  Before when I used VM Player we could do this by upgrading backup files in virtual machine directory and copy them to the new machine. With the ESXi data store, I don't know that something like this can be done.  I used vCenter Converter to convert to ESXi Infrastructure VM in VM Player format (and vice versa), but it is extremely slow. I think I might point the Source to my ESXi host and the Destination to a co-workers ESXi host and run a 'conversion' to transfer the files, but I think it would be very slow and impractical for some people to 'slow-network '.  I tried with vSphere Client navigation data store and I see the download options, but when I tried to download a VM directory it just hung.  I enabled ssh on my server ESXi and I found the store of data under/vmfs/volumes and when I look in the folder that contains my VM, there a file myvmname - flat hard which is 60 GB in size, so if I tar the contents of this folder to move elsewhere it will be huge.

Can anyone suggest a solution?  The licensed version of ESXi would offer better alternatives?

You can watch export OVF available in the Client vSphere for this function.

The New-VM cmdlet takes a single value of the parameter - data store and all of the virtual disks will be located on this data store.

If I understand your request, you create a virtual machine with 2 virtual disks, each on a different data store.

You can use the cmdlet New - hard drive for it.

    $datastore1 = get-datastore | where-object {$_.Name -eq "lun1"}
    $datastore2 = get-datastore | where-object {$_.Name -eq "lun2"}

    $vm = new-vm -name vmtest01 -VMHost ESXserver -datastore $datastore1 -diskmb 8192 -memorymb 4096 -numcpu 2 -GuestId winNetStandardGuest
    new-harddisk -vm $vm -datastore $datastore2 CapacityKB (8192 * 1KB)

Host-Only is VMnet1, you used only NAT. static use of intellectual property and switch to DHCP for now. Make sure that the VMWare DHCP Server service is running. Put network cards in comments to "host-only '.

    Post your host ' ipconfig/all'.

  • Create a virtual machine with the physical RAM total?

I want to virtualize ESXi 4 on my MacBook Pro. However, I have 2 GB of RAM and ESXi 4 requires a minimum of 2 GB.

I posted in the community of ESXi (is it possible to virtualize ESXi 4 with less than 2 GB of RAM?) and there is a solution for using ESXi with less RAM, but the problem is that I first need to run the installation with 2 GB.

Basically, I tried to create a virtual machine with 2 GB, but the maximum I can use is 1840MB. Is it something that I do with Fusion to increase this limit? I understand that I am under a host operating system and requiring too little RAM, but just to get through the ESXi installation isn't it possible to push the VM of RAM to 2 GB and the host what OS increase the pagefile to deal with the lack of RAM?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you

You may be able to edit the .vmx file and change the memsize option either 2048 or more. The merger is able to start a virtual machine with more memory that the host, just UI prevents common users to exceed the limits of security in general.

I'm not quite sure what would happen if the VM actually tries to use all of the memory. If all goes well, it will be just talk and run slowly. Of course, the worst case are that it crashes.

  • Cloning a virtual machine with 2 hard drives!

    Hi all!

I ran into a very annoying problem. I'm trying to Migrate/convert virtual machines to a host in the CR. Each virtual machine has 2 hard drives which are located on 2 different data stores. When I try to migrate or to clone virtual machines from the host on my Cluster I get an 'error of operation period.

After scratching my head for a while, I discovered why. The virtual machine have 2 hard drives on 2 different data stores. Both flat.vmdk files are called eponymous because they are on different data warehouses (TTDC001.vmdk). I created a VM test on the cluster with 2 hard drives and flat.vmdk flies are named TTDC001.vmdk and TTDC001_1.vmdk.

So my conclusion as to why I get "Opération Timeout Error" is that VC trying Migrate/Clone to the virtual machine but is mistake because his attempts to migrate/Clone 2 hard files with the same name!

Can someone give me some pointers as to how I can get around this? I am currently copy the file hard 2nd to my deskop from the data store and rename it then copy him on the new cluster data store to see if it works as you cannot rename the file hard in the data store. It just seems long way round to migrate virtual machines with 2 hard drives, and I don't even know if it works!

    Please help!  :|

    Andy Hughes

    Andy of the evening,

I do it well. Thank you for asking.

So if I'm reading correctly it seems that you are trying to clone a virtual machine from a stand-alone host to a host that is part of a VMware Cluster. When you do this you get a network midway through the copy error. Is this correct?

Can you confirm how fast is connected to the Service Console between the two servers? For this kind of work I would recommend making them run at 1000/full, assuming you're not already. Could you also post the entire message that you get when the clone fails.

    Kind regards

    Glen

  • Run a virtual machine or vAppliance on a VMPlayer installed on a virtual machine

I don't know there must be something in the vmx file to work around this problem.

VM host is a Windows 2003 VM with sufficient resources.

Any ideas how to get around this problem?

    Ah.

    ESX 3.0. * does not support monitor_control.restrict_backdoor.

    ESX 3.5. * does not support monitor_control.vt32.

ESX 4.0. * takes in charge monitor_control.restrict_backdoor, but instead of monitor_control.vt32, you must use "monitor.virtual_exec = material."

On ESX 3.*, you should still be able to execute the nested virtual machine by adding the following configuration option to the configuration file for the internal VM:

    vmx.allowNested = TRUE
