Vista, Windows Mail, can not open links in emails.
It is good if you want to use Internet Explorer as the default browser. I prefer Firefox and cannot get the problem fixed by making Firefox my default browser. Why?

Pavilion dv7 cannot recognize the CD/DVD drive, no help support "assistant".
Subject says it all. Since I got this machine, it had problems when the CD/DVD drive becomes invisible and are not accessible by any means. A reboot has solved in the past, but now, it doesn't seem to work more. I would like to reinstall the drivers, but guess what, I don't know what kind of player, it is (funny how that works), and Support 'Assistant' is apparently ihcapable to understand the model of this Pavilion dv7 ("product name: loading...") ("now until the heat death of the universe), which does not help either. Anyone has a better idea than just blindly install the drivers?
Hello
Drivers for CD/DVD drives comes with Windows (IE with the operating system - it is not the drivers you need to download). The driver is located in C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys.
First, try the automated Microsoft fixit at the link below.
Check if the drive works now.
If the drive does not, in the Start Menu, open Control Panel and click Device Manager. Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Right-click on the first channel and select uninstall. Do not delete if requested drivers. When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel. Also, if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall it, once again is not removing the drivers if requested. Then, open the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives. Make a right click the drive (if it shows!) and choose uninstall. Do not delete if requested drivers.
Restart the computer and let Windows reinstall devices. Check the disc again.
If it still does not work, re-run the fixit automated Microsoft at the link below.
Then, in the Start Menu, open Control Panel and click Device Manager. Click to open the CD/DVD-ROM drives. Right-click on the drive and choose uninstall. Do not delete if requested drivers. When the device has been uninstalled click the icon 'Search for hardware changes' (usually just below help in the toolbar). Let windows reinstall the disc and see if it works now.
Best wishes

If nothing happens when you click on a link:
Open Windows Explorer or on the control panel.
Go to tools | Folder options | Types of files.
Scroll to [NONE] URL: Protocol HyperText Transfer (shortened NOTURL:Internet) and select it.
Click Edit or advanced, depending on your version of Windows.
Choose 'open '.
Click on change."Application used to perform action" should read:

Iexplore.exe to ensure that it is correct and use the double quotes).DDE should be checked and in the boxes below, you should have:

WWW_OpenURLProtocol URL: HyperText Transfer with Privacy should be the same.
If the foregoing is correct, uncheck the box: use DDE.

(2) run the troubleshooter App: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/what-troubleshoot-problems-app
(3) (3) partir go to a command prompt (Administrator), run the following commands
(1) sfc/scannow, enter. Restart your computer
(2) Dism.exe / Online/Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
(3) Dism.exe/online /Cleanup - /RestoreHealth Image, restart, and then try to open the store
(4) re - run sfc/scannow then restart if necessary
Hope this helps and if you need any additional aid station and we will be happy to help you.

Cannot open attachments in Windows Mail
Can not open attachments [such as wmv.] in Windows Mail
Unless I first save the attachment and then open it from the location of the saved file. After that attachments can be opened in WM until the next time I start the PC. Then I do the routine save - open again.
Help, please
Thank youTry this, instead of open Windows Mail on the part of the shortcuts to quick launch or desktop, or in the Start Menu, start it from "start |" All programs | Windows Mail' and see if your attachments open. There is a recurring problem between Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Mail that causes this and many people have been able to resolve the question drinking from Windows Mail in this way. These discussions have a lot more information:

Please check if your Internet Explorer default value...
Start > default programs > Set Your Default programs > D'olonne on the left, click Internet Explorer. He said "this program has all its defaults"?
If not, click on choose by default for this program > check on all the entries in the list > click SaveFor the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

This is NOT an easy process.
(A) can I download Windows Live mail on my Win XP machine to migrate my e-mal address book and messages?
(B) then, after I get stuff all the Windows Live stuff I'm supposed to be able to download stuff on Win 7 and Outlook.
Copy all the files from Outlook Express dbx on the XP machine in the Win 7 machine. Also, to find the wab (address book) file and copy that. Then in Outlook try Alt | File | Options | Advanced | Export and click on the button "export". Then gives you options to import messages or address book and OE to choose it. I have not tried and it might not work, but this would be the simplest method and you wouldn't have to go through living things.
See instructions for import here: www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm for Windows Mail in Vista. Most of the provisions continue to apply, but in Outlook Import Wizard may not have the quirkiness of the Vista one. Dbx files cannot be readonly however and the folders.dbx file must be present. And copy the dbx files to a folder on the desktop on the Win7 machine so you won't not permissions with importation problems.
