RV042G - access modem connected to a WAN port

Hello

I've set up my RV042G with that one line WAN currently using a modem Alice IAD to connect to my ISP. This unit has an own web server for configuration currently configured IP 192.168.0.1. The dual WAN router got the address of WAN IP 192.168.0.4 (the fixed address) and a LAN IP 192.168.0.5. Now, I need to access the modem from time to time for maintenance but can not reach address 192.168.0.1. The RV042G can be configured to allow communication between the modem and the LAN devices? I tried to put a static route, but that did not help. I'm certainly not a network expert.

Thank you

Mike

Hi Mike, if your modem is able to log on locally, then the LAN RV042G subnet should be different from that of the modem LAN subnet. Given that your modem is 192.168.0.x your RV042G can be 192.168.1.x for LAN. So the RV042G WAN is 192.168.0.x.

This should be your goal.

  • WAG320N and cable modem connection

    I have a small question,

You could point me to some reference material on my WAG320N configuration to use my modem cable via Ethernet 1 port. I saw that he mentioned it's possible, but I have been unable to me sorting.

And before ask you, I put the DSL router that I move in the next 12 months and my new base will not have access to cable internet and I'll be going back to DSL.

    Thanks in advance,

    Phil

Actually in this case your bad, but thank you for the quick response.

After a few game, it seems that the WAG320N is specifically configured to configure Ethernet Port 1 WAN port and you can route all internet traffic through the modem cable via the WAN port, you just set up.

If anyone is interested, then load up your routers page 192.168.1.1 default config.

    Click Setup

    - Ethernet

Next to Ethernet connection: select the button labeled radio like Port WAN

Most of the stand-alone cable modems will have a static IP address both under the list of connection

down box  Select the static IP address.

Enter the IP address of your cable modem, subnet mask, gateway and DNS address by default. (These items must have all be supplied by your ISP)

And finally click on Save settings at the bottom of the screen to validate your changes.

Then connect to your WAG via the Ethernet switch or wireless connection and you should be good for surfing the web.

I hope this helps someone else who tries to use a modem cable through the WAG320N or similar device.

  • LAN/WAN ports not supposed to be Gigabit? Capped at 250Mbps, NOT because of the ISP LAN devices.

    Hi all

Have a bit of a problem here. I have Internet Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) with Bell Canada and have their Fibe Gigabit service which is 940/120 speeds up and down, respectively. I was able to bypass his combo modem/router using a switch connected to the optical network terminal (HAVE) where the fiber cable enters the House (which serves mainly my base modem) and using custom settings of VLAN and DNS in ports specific for my fiber IPTV service Bell and receivers work together through my router.

So, I have a few routers that I tried this with to try to solve my problem. My Asus RT-AC5300 and others have no problem with having me my subscribed speed - certainly through devices connected to gigabit LAN and also via WiFi on compatible devices. But I'm not concerned about WiFi - it is specifically wired ethernet devices that are the cause. I use CAT5e and CAT6 cables only because he is a Gigabit connection. The issue I have with my Time Capsule (3 to, latest model AC) is that, literally, speeds for gigabit wired devices will not exceed 250Mbps downstream. Download speeds can hit 125Mbps without problem. Why is this? Is there something my Time Capsule prevents leave the LAN ports operating at gigabit full transfer speed? It is not only a device - I have multiple gigabit devices I tested, on all three of the TC ports, and none of them exceed 250Mbps. Yet when I connect them to another router gigabit, such as the Asus I've described but also others, they have no problem hitting 900 + Mbps downstream on the exact same network configuration and Setup at home.

Thanks for any ideas, comments or suggestions. Y at - it a setting I have accidentally enabled that is the cause? I had much rather use the TC of the most convenient airport for my network I was planning on getting multiple Airport extreme to position around the House to cover literally home WiFi and LAN bridges through the simple installation of these devices, but I do if I can't use my fiber subscribed speed.

OR maybe I have a defective unit. Thanks again for the help!

    See you soon

The issue I have with my Time Capsule (3 to, latest model AC) is that, literally, speeds for gigabit wired devices will not exceed 250Mbps downstream. Download speeds can hit 125Mbps without problem. Why is this?

Apple AirPort routers have been designed to work with the cable standard and DSL connections.  The fiber is the new ball game, and Apple knows yet how to play the game, let alone to understand the rules.

Most of the problems associated with connections to high speed on airports is a result of the decision of Apple to eliminate any kind of manual settings to manually adjust the speed of the WAN port on the router... and are based rather on an "Auto" setting.  Automatic adjustment seems to work pretty well on the fiber up to approximately 100 Mbps connections, but the WAN port is struggling to negotiate with high-speed connections when it is connected directly to the fiber. LAN ports can also be affected.

Some users have reported that insert a Gigabit switch between the connection of the fiber and the Time Capsule or AirPort Extreme has helped with speeds. The theory here is that the switch can negotiate with the fiber connection much better than the WAN port on the Apple device.  If you have a handy Gigabit Ethernet switch, that it could not hurt to try this "Workaround".  Other users report no benefit when they try it.

Yet when I connect them to another router gigabit, such as the Asus I've described but also others, they have no problem hitting 900 + Mbps downstream on the exact same network configuration and Setup at home.

The time Capsule is not directly connected to the fiber connection, so it OK to talk and negotiate with what he sees as a 'normal' a conventional router connection.

Don't forget also that the 802.11ac products were designed before 2013. Current products have not changed since their introduction in June 2013.

The bottom line... Apple needs to decide whether it wants to be an actor, or leave the routing other players company established. Such what, Apple is far behind the curve... my opinion.

While it might not hurt to take the time Capsule to an Apple Store to check over the machine, you might want to ensure that they have in fact a fiber connection high speed to test.

  • Cable modem has no WAN port

I have XFinity for my cable and internet services.  We just moved into a house built in 1850 and due to the size of the House and horse hair plaster, upstairs gets very little signal WiFi.  I want to extend the reach of WiFi and intended to do with a couple of Airport extreme.  The only problem is, every tutorial I watch shows the first Airport Extreme being plugged into the WAN port on the modem cable suppliers.  My router/modem, made by Cisco, has no port Ethernet WAN port only 4.  Can I connect the Airport Extreme on port 1 and then put in place using the Airport according to normal or need a WAN port?

If you have a modem/router, then you would connect an Ethernet cable from one of the four ports Ethernet LAN <>-... choose any you want, they are all the same... to the "O" on the AirPort Extreme WAN port.

Then use Configuration utility of Apple AirPort "Wizard" to configure AirPort Extreme to create a wireless network that uses the same exact wireless network and the same password that the wireless Cisco uses.

The wizard will apply automatically other correct parameters... Mode Bridge, by example... so you don't have to worry about things like that.

  • RV042G difference between the Strip protocol binding bandwidth <>- for the WAN ports

Can someone explain a little better then the manual what are the differences between the management of bandwidth on the WAN ports and protocol bindings?

If you specify in each section which protocol should go where, why have two places to set this up?

Or are there things to remember when you use one of them?

Protocol binding affects the leaves of outgoing traffic how a particular WAN interface.

With bandwidth management, you specify bandwidth across WAN, a service must be used.

  • The WAN Port is communicating with the Ethernet switch?

I have a Comcast gateway that the router is disabled in so it acts only as a modem. This is related to an Airport Extreme, which serves as my router via the WAN on the AE port. I created a different WAP with a Capsule temporal from the airport, located downstairs with an Ethernet cable from one of the Ethernet ports on the AE to the WAN on the TC port. I think it's what we call a 'roaming network.

My question is, can I connect my switch Gigabit 8 ports in one of the Ethernet ports on the TC to complete connections wired to all devices connected on it, or should I first connect EI to the switch 8 ports and then connect the switch to the port WAN TC to complete my network "roaming"? In other words, plug it into the port WAN AE or TC still allows you to use other Ethernet ports as a switch?

    Thank you!

can I plug my Gigabit 8 ports switch in one of the ports Ethernet on the TC to complete wired connections to all devices connected on it

Yes, assuming that the TC has been configured to run in Bridge Mode, which would be normal.

or should I first connect EI to the switch 8 ports and then connect the switch to the TC WAN port to complete my network "roaming"?

It would be considered preferable to wiring, if it is convenient to do so.  For example, in the configuration of the wiring in the previous example just above... If there is a problem with the time Capsule, then all devices connected to the switch to the time Capsule would have a problem as well.

If the switch is connected to the AirPort Extreme, and the TC is then connected to the switch... If the TC has a problem, the other devices connected to the switch of will not be affected.

  • R7000 WAN Port does not use LAN as a substitute?

I have a problem with my R7000. The WAN port is dead. I used it in access point mode for some time connected to one of my LAN ports, but I need to go back to a main router. Is it possible to run it in router mode outside of a LAN port, or I'm out of options and need to replace the router? Past the WAN port, everything works fine. Thank you!

Ive never used Merlin, but I think you need to activate the dual WAN mode and just use the secondary interface for your main WAN while leaving the other disconnected.

  • RV180 getting is not gigabit/1000 WAN port speed

I have my RV180 connected to a modem Motorola SB6121 cable into the WAN port. The modem indicates that the connection to the router is only 10/100. If I plug my laptop directly into the cable modem, it indicates that the connection is full gigabit.

RV180 configuration, less Networking > port management, the WAN (Internet) port is enabled and Full Duplex value and speed of 1000. Auto-negotiation and flow control are unchecked. I also changed the WAN port for auto-negotiation and restarted the RV180. But none of these settings seem to affect the speed detected on the modem end. He always shows a light orange Link that says 10/100Base-T, instead of a blue light of the link indicating full 1000Base-T.

Am I missing another setting somewhere, or is there another reason why the modem insists that the connection to the router is only 10/100?

If I plugged my laptop into the RV180 rouoter's WAN port, I do not see how that would be a proper test.

Then two different cables do you use?  The reason why I ask because there are some cables Cat5/Cat6 "shonky" that are not properly completed.  If they are properly finished cables, you can obtain 1 Gbps.  If this isn't the case, you will get 100 Mbps.

  • rv042G multiple s on the same Wan ip

I'm trying to help a client to remove an extra router on their network.  It lies between them and the outside world.  The customer has a routed IP address block.  I want to do is move the old router on the new router wan and always keep the old ips outside for the nat/passage in.  Is this possible to do?

    Sage

    Hello

I understand your topology for the following:

ISP (i-net)---10.1.1.2/30 WAN (router) LAN LAN (RV042G) 10.10.10.1/29---10.10.10.2/29WAN... users... when both routers are in gateway mode)

If this is the correct configuration you write that you do not need the first router. And if the network is already running in this way, it means that the rules of port forwarding for users are already created on both routers. What you need to do is just remove the first router and configure the WAN on RV042G port with IP 10.1.1.2

You mention a VLAN 155 on the WAN side. RV042G has no option to specify the VLAN on the WAN port.

Also, make sure that the ISP doesn't have any port as security to connect only to the MAC address of the router first.

    Kind regards

  • Out-of-band access (modem) to IDSM2 blade

We will soon have a few strands of IDSM2 distributed geographically. My company security group does not control the Cat 650 x switch as such, and I would like to know if there is some way we could get access to consoles (modem) to the IDSM2 blade only (without getting to the switch).

If this is not possible, is there a common console connection that must be shared between the infrastructure group and the security group? is it possible for us to share access modem/console as well as the separation of privileges?

Your help is appreciated. Thank you

The JOINT-2 itself is not a port of the console.

    Options to access the JOINT-2:

    (1) a user can access console switch and the switch CLI, the user can JOINT-2 session. This would require a physical connection to the switch via a console port (or terminal server) and passwords to access the switch and the JOINT-2.

    (2) a user could connect to the switch via a modem and the switch CLI user can sesion at the JOINT-2. This would imply a connection by modem to the switch and the passwords to access the switch and the JOINT-2.

    (3) a user could telnet or ssh to the switch and the switch CLI user can JOINT-2 session. This would require network connectivity to the ip address of the switch itself and passwords for the switch and JOINT-2.

    (4) a user could SSH directly to the JOINT-2 command and control the IP address. This would require network connectivity to the command and control of the IDSM2 ip address and require only passwords for JOINT-2 itself.

    (5) similar to the number 4 above, the user could telnet directly to the JOINT-2.

    (6) a user could browse the Web (HTTPS) to the JOINT-2 command and control IP address to access the IDS Device Manager. This would require network connectivity to the command and control of the IDSM2 ip address and require only passwords for JOINT-2 itself.

    -------------

During the initial installation of the JOINT-2, options 4,5 and 6 cannot be used. This is because the JOINT-2 comes with a standard default ip address that is not likely available. For the initial Setup, the user must session from a CLI switch.

However, once that the "setup" command was run on the JOINT-2 and the configuration of the JOINT-2 switch to place in the vlan correct for the IP JOINT-2 command and control, then the JOINT-2 accessible directly on the network via options 4,5 and 6.

Once the initial Setup is complete, the day-to-day management of the JOINT-2 can be made through direct network access, so there is no need to access the switch.

The only time wherever the switch will have to be consulted again is to configure the sending of packets to the JOINT-2 (usually done with the initial setup and rarely changes) and reset the module or reload a new image on the module in case of major problems. (Note that the standard upgrades can be performed via direct access to the network without access to the switch).

If some users choose to work in collaboration with the team of the switch during initial setup and during periods of trouble shootin.

And will just use the direct access via ssh or telnet to the JOINT-2 for the activity on the day the day.

Other groups have used GANYMEDE + to provide a userid on the switch to the security team. Via GANYMEDE + configuration entries, the Userid for the security team may be limited to the execution of only the commands that are required to maintain the JOINT-2.

The user ID could be used to connect through the network to the switch, or connect on the console switch or a modem connected to the switch.

If you fear that repeatedly when the network connectivity between your main site and the remote site is down, so have you considered adding a PC on the remote site, which would be on the same network as the command and control of JOINT-2 address?

You could put a modem in the PC and then when you need to dial in the PC and the PC would be able to telnet or ssh to the IP address of the JOINT-2.

  • Connection cRio 9074 second port ethernet to another device via VISA

I'm trying to connect a DAQ Yokogawa system to a cRio 9074 via the second ethernet port. I activated the second ethernet port of the cRio with a static IP address on the same subnet as the data acquisition system. I installed the driver NI-VISA and NOR-SERIAL on the cRio. I can compile the code on the cRio and I'm sure that the code works when I connect to the acquisition of data to a PC. I get an error on the open VISA VI.

Am I missing something or is it not possible to connect the second ethernet port on the cRio in this way?

    Thank you

Thank you for your response. I found the same information that you provide, but decided to give it a try.

A few minutes ago, I was able to perform communication between the cRio 2nd access Ethernet DAQ Yokogawa. I managed to do it using the VISA controls. To communicate with the host PC, I get the information of the DAQ with the cRIO as described above and then use shared variables to publish data on the network connected through the first ethernet port.

If anyone wants to reproduce it just to make sure that the two ethernet ports are configured with IP addresses on different subnets that are configured for TCP communication. If more details are to be simply send me a message.

    Kind regards!

  • Remove my modem connection?

I have a few computers on a small network ethernet, via a residential gateway (i.e., router), which allow computers to share files and printers, and share an Internet connection cable. Most of the computers on my network is not yet have PSTN modems and (fortunately), I had the need to use remote access services in more than six years. However, in my IE Options CONNECTION tab it says that MSN remote connection has been implemented.

Sometimes, I received a box of popup with some sort of message about the remote connection and work offline. Of course, I'm not looking for a modem connection. I have changed since my connections to NEVER A CONNECTION settings, but I really want to just remove the connection distance for not having any conflicts in my system or Internet access in the future.

My question: would I be causing no problem for me on the road if I just remove this connection remotely, and if deleting it would not be a problem, so I have correctly and safely how so? Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think that delete a unused dial-up connection can cause problems.  To be completely safe:

    1. make a system restore point.
    2. open the network connections, right click on the connection file and delete it.
    3. in case of problems, restore the system to the way it was before deletion.

  • RV042 Dual WAN Port DMZ not acquire an IP from ISP

    Hello

I am trying to replace my router with the more robust RV042 of current load balancing. Installation seems simple enough. However, I am having an issue gets an IP address of the DMZ port in load balancing mode.

The two WAN is the same ISP and is both DSL, using the same models of DSL Modem. #1 WAN port works perfectly.

Indeed, when an independent piece of equipment is installed in the #2 DSL modem, this gives an IP address instantly...

The two DSL lines only require a MAC address to get their IP addresses, and none of the static values are allowed, perhaps to test only.

The issue of intellectual property has been seen before. I can't find any reference to the iton this site.

    Thank you

    Steve

Glad to hear that it works.

The "save the settings and restart" is not all that rare, although it is not typical for your model.

The obligation of power off is certainly not normal. He told me that some sort of electric lock has occurred. This could be a unique thing, caused by a discharge of static electricity, or it could indicate a manufacturing defect. If this is the first case he did re - is probably. If it is the latter, then it will need a trade at any given time.

In any case, it seems that the MAC address index has been at least partially useful.

Good luck, somone will be here if you need assistance once again.
