  • Cannot play video DVDs

I got a 2008 HP Pavilion dv9700 3GB 32-bit Notbook PC Vista Home Premium.  When I insert the DVD, nothing happens.  I get no start menu, nothing.  I can hear the DVD spinning for about 20 seconds, then nothing.  I open Windows Media Center and tried to play the movie but got the message, "Windows Media Center cannot detect a video DVD in the DVD - ROM drive. Insert a video DVD in the drive."  But a DVD is already IN the drive!  Anyway, my wife has exactly the same computer and I get the same thing when I try to use his computer to play the movie, so I assume that this is not a hardware problem, but maybe something is missing (pilot, etc.).  I hope someone can help.  Thank you.

  • How to play video files with the extension "rar".

When I download video files with the extension 'rar', I can't play them with Windows Media Player or QuickTime.

Could someone please advise what I can do to fix this problem?

    Thank you

Rar is a compressed, identical to zip file. You must decompress, using an application like winzip or winrar, then according to what file type it is you should be able to play. If you cannot, you will find the codec that makes the Elf, install it, and then everything should be fine, but if you have problems, go back with the extension on the end of the file, as you have with the .rar and ask again.

  • install windows xp WITH external cd drive

So, I have a nb100 linux and I want to also have Windows xp.

I have a Philips cdrw400 external cd Reader which works very well under ubuntu.
Now, quite simply, I have my copy of windows xp home and I put in the cd player, I changed the boot sequence, so that the cd/dvd is first of all, then I turn on but...
nothing happens. As usual, not linux begin installation of windows (the disc is fine as I tried on another pc)

So, why it does not start the installation program?

second question, I like to keep the version of ubuntu and have a cool dual boot with windows xp. What are the right steps to do this?

Third, I tried to start again the external nb100 with a linux LiveCD, but he didn.t work. It seems that the nb100 does not use external cd drive, but it works correctly under ubuntu. There the antthing I need to do in advance?

    Thank you

I think that there is something broken in the process of selection of start on Linux NB100. I had to leave the selection of only F2 bios and use the F12 boot selection. Perhaps a bios later could help with this, but I couldn't sort out how to upgrade the bios with the material I have and without going back to the first installation of Ubuntu.
Try to put the selection of the bios back to the original boot, reboot and pressing F12.

  • How to move Photo videos to an external hard drive?

Short videos pile up in my PHOTO program and want to spend 129 of them in an external hard drive... the export function does not allow me to set the location for the export... which I find strange, after I selected all of the files to be transferred. Everyone has understood how to do this without resorting to individual transfers of each file?

I'm on a laptop Mac Pro with El Captain running and Photo Version 1.3 (350.23.0). It should be simpler than that... not?

    Export requires two steps:

    • Select first quality, the regime, the regime of subfolder, and then click 'export' of file naming.
    • Now, you will see a file selector Panel to select the location on your external hard drive in the Finder.

  • Problem with external hard drive (an unexpected error - 50)

I've had this problem for a few months now. Sometimes, I can't delete a file from my external hard drive, or export a file to it. The process is impossible, and I get a message "Cannot perform the action due to an unexpected error - 50". Ejecting the disc gives the message "eject impossible because another program can use it." Ejection force becomes the only option. After re-login, the problem goes away, like nothing ever happened.

The question is not constant, but quite common to become a nuisance, the one I want stopped.

That's what I think it is (a bad connection with the cable, defective contact), or is this a virus? I need to know.

The hard drive is 1 TB Toshiba Canvio Basics and is formatted as Mac OS extended (Journalized).

not a virus, and not only because there is no virus mac at this time.

negative errors on the discs can be a signal indicating that the file is corrupted or worse still, the drive is failing. While it can also be a problem with the cable or the connector that it commonly goes back on the disc itself.

Currently, it is recommended that you backup your data if a backup fails, you may need to save what you can manually and sometimes that means go to this folder by folder or file by file

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support

All HARD drives (and SSD') eventually fail and while this isn't a your statement you should check the drive with disk utility (Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) after you got what you possibly can off and consider replacing the disk with a new one.

  • Problem with external hard drive 500 Gb Stor.e Steel

    Hello

I ve bought a Store.e steel 500 GB external hard drive and I can't get large files (such as 4 GB) it wit. There is a message that says that the file is bigger that the system supports whenever I try to get a file of 4 GB, but I have 300 GB of free.
    What evil?
    Thank you

    I agree with user Stephen.
The file format of HARD drive seems to be FAT32, you must format the HARD disk to NTFS to be able to manage files over 4 GB.

  • Activation XP with external hard drive?

I don't know where to post this question.

I have many PXI-8196 systems in the field which boot from an external SCSI drive (for security reasons). I've configured initially them by creating a disk image of the internal HD (with XP already installed) on the SCSI disk and then removing the internal disks. Now, we want to upgrade the processors with the PXI-8108 s, without losing any settings/files currently on SCSI drives.

When I pass a PXI-8196 with a PXI-8108 and have it boot from the SCSI, it recognizes of course XP runs on different hardward and pushes me to activate Windows.  All fail to perform the activation of MS because MS does not recognize the installation ID. My understanding is that this is because that NEITHER (an OEM) manages XP license differently, somehow involving a code written in the BIOS.

Short of having to save all the files from the user to the SCSI, create a new image (from internal HD of the 8108) on SCSI and then reinstall all applications on the SCSI, is there another way to accomplish what I'm doing?

    Ken

    Peter,

    Thanks for the reply.

Your response prompted me to check a few more things and I was finally able to make it work.  The 8108 is came with a Vista product key code (even if we bought with XP), who did not work for XP on the SCSI boot disk, if I had tried to use the product key, I read (using a utility of the decryption key) on the factory installed 8108 HD, but that no longer works. I found that all my boxes PXI (8187, 8196 and 8108) report the same product key to decryption utility, so I thought it must be a problem.  When I used a XP product key on the label of the chassis, which worked and allowed me to register.

    All is well now.

    Thank you

  • moving video files on external hard drive

I recently added a 1 to. external hard drive. I saved my documents etc.  Now, I'm moving all my video files from my lap top to my drive hard ext.  BUT!  A message keeps coming up saying I don't have enough disk space. There are still 931 GB of free space on the disk hard ext. Can someone help me to overcome this problem.

Just a guess...  How is your external hard drive formatted?  For information, right-click on the drive and select "Properties".  There will be a line of "File System".  If the file system is one of the types of FATS (for example FAT32), then the maximum size of a single file is 4 GB.  If you have files larger than this, you will need to reformat the drive to "NTFS".  The procedure to do this is here:

"How to use Convert.exe to convert a Partition to the NTFS file system.

  • E3000 displays "USB is not supported" error with external hard drive

I have the E3000 router and recently bought a USB WD (Western Digital) 2 TB external hard drive.  I plug the HDD on the router, open the home page of the router (http://192.168.1.1/) then click on storage > disk and I get an error of "the USB is connected is not supported"-suggestions on how to solve this problem?

    Thanks for any help!

I had the same problem with my WD hard drive today after setting up my E3000. Remove the protection 'security' or the password on the disk as well as level of what the duration of sleep obtained took care of this problem. My WD is now working with my E3000 seemlesly.

  • Start with external hard drive problem

I recently bought a Western Digital 1 TB external hard drive. When it is connected through the USB port my Pavilion a815n Windows XP hangs on the blue HP screen at startup. Western Digital technical support Advisor info sent to me I need to change a setting in BIOS but I can't find the trunk of USB device option setting in the BIOS of HP.  Can you tell me how to access this setting, or what else to do to solve the problem?  Thank you!  Jake

    Problem:
After connecting a device USB to the PC, the computer does not start in Windows.

    Cause:
The motherboard has a boot from the USB device, or a similar option, which is enabled in the system BIOS.

    Solution:
In the system BIOS, disable the option to boot from the USB device and the USB Legacy Support option. This will allow the PC complete the process on the internal hard disk and allow you to enter Windows. If this does not work for any reason, you should boot your PC before connecting the USB key. Once the computer is fully booted Windows, plug the USB and wait for the operating system to detect the drive.

Update the BIOS seems to have solve the problem. It was normally restarted with the attached hard drive.  Thank you!!  Jake

  • Help with external hard drive

I use an external hard drive Seagate for my photos and I have been use for more than a year, today when I used it, my windows 7 laptop not recognize it so I couldn't see the files but I knew that it worked as I could hear, I then plugged in a computer laptop windows 8 and it's the same thing. I used another cable, still nothing has changed. Could someone tell me how to solve this problem that I don't have a return to the top of the images.

    Hello

This is a problem because it is not recognized by Windows 7 or Windows 8 machines.

I would try it on a 3rd machine, such as pointing to something to go wrong with this Seagate HD.

And hearing that HD is not a good sign either.

    See you soon.

  • Media Player11 will not play video (DVD disc). The sound is fine and a DVD decoder was installed.

Where to start... After you download the necessary drivers and also I was able to get my sound work. Then, I bought and downloaded the dvd decoder, InterVideo DVD XPack. When I put a DVD in the drive, Media Player appears and I press play and I hear the sound but I do not see any video!

I tried to download and use other video players, but none have worked so far. Everyone give me reasons why they can not read/play the disc or separate errors. Some have suggested that I change my screen resolution or color quality. I have and nothing makes a difference. Only, I can choose between 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 (16-bit or 32-bit).
