S2240T, Inspiron 531, about connection

I recently bought a new computer XPS 8700 (to deliver) that goes along with the above screen. In the meantime, I changed the hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 531 desktop PC and got it working again. I was hoping to connect the new monitor to my Inspiron 531, but the new monitor has an additional connection (VGA), and I get the message "no VGA connection. My Inspiron 531 has no such connection VGA to connect the cable for the new monitor. So my question is: is it possible that I can get the S2240T monitor to work with my Inspiron 531? Thank you!

Our tool shows that the card 256 MB Nvidia 8600GT discreet has been installed in the Inspiron 531 desktop computer. Looking at your system image I posted, the video card is on the bottom. You must purchase a DVI cable. Plug one end into the DVI port monitor and the other end to the background video card DVI port.

  • Cannot find or download video drivers for Inspiron 531

    Hi guys

    System:

    • Inspiron 531
    • AMD Athlon Dual Core 6000 + 3.01 GHz
    • Windows Vista 32-bit SP2
    • NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Earlier, the display on two monitors connected to my Inspiron (Dell 24 "& Dell 22") deleted and enter Power Saving mode.

Both screens are also connected to my XPS 8300 and they work very well with this system. I also checked the two cables and they work too.

The monitors are usually connected to my Inspiron like this:

    • The 24 "monitor is connected to my Inspiron with a DVI - D to DVI - D cable
    • The 22 "monitor is connected through a DVI - D to VGA cable (the slot of DVI - D on the PC to the monitor VGA slot)

However, if I run live of the Inspiron, its connected monitor VGA slot to works fine.

The display shows a screen of information who advised me to click OK to complete the installation of the "new" NVIDIA software I have automatic updates turned off and I certainly did not begin any procedure update.

Anyway, I clicked 'OK' and reconnected the monitors as normal to think everything would be ok, but they still do not work.

I had a problem not long after I got this PC when I updated the video drivers from NVIDIA direct - I could run basically only to screen at resolution 800 x 600. I contacted the Support technique Dell and they said, it would be best to always get the updates driver directly from Dell. I did this and the problem was solved.

I tried to find the relevant video drivers on the Dell site, but for some reason any my Inspiron no longer appears on my record details, only my most recent XPS. I tried to re - register, but I keep saying that my Service tag is no longer supported. I found anywhere else on this site where I can download the appropriate drivers.

So I'm stuck - ideally I want to download the drivers for my dual monitor Setup works as it was before. I tried to do a system restore, but I don't know if it will work. In fact, I cling to the wide trying anything in case I find myself accidentally disabling VGA, power supply, so I won't be able to do anything with my system.

Why Dell make life so difficult for someone who has purchased a product from them once his warrany has expired?

    Thanks for any help.

What happens if you start in Mode safe?  -Restart, and then press F8 before Windows starts to load and choose Safe Mode from the menu.

Assume correctly that it is an add-in PCI-e graphics card? A map is not... ??

    You can try this:

    1. Power off, unplug
    2. Press / hold the power button for about 15 sec.
    3. Carefully reinstall the video card in its niche.
    4. Then remove the battery from motherboard and the power button press / hold again to ~ 30 sec
    5. Reinstall the battery (right-side-to the top) and see if it works now

NOTE: It may be a good idea to open BIOS setup (reboot and press F2) before trying the above. Copy down all the settings of the BIOS because the battery will reset the BIOS default settings. After reinstalling the battery, restart and press F2 and confirm that the settings match what you noted. Be sure to save changes before exiting the Setup program.

What is the Windows experience index?

Read the article above about it.

    Your score of 3:

A computer with a base score of 3 is able to run Windows Aero and many new features Windows Vista at a basic level. Some of the newWindows that Vista advanced features would not have all of their functionality available. For example, a machine with a base score of 3 can display the Windows Vista theme at a resolution of 1280 × 1024, but might struggle to run the theme on multiple monitors. Or, it can play digital TV content but might be difficult to read the content of the TV high definition (HDTV).

  • A Dell Inspiron 531 computer will be compatible with Windows 7? Conflicting information between sources.

I looked on these contradictory information, and here's what I found... I'm still not sure about that.
I found information about this Dell Inspiron 531 computergoing to be compatible with Windows 7 on the site of Microsoft and in the control panel of that computer system information.

But then I found more information on the Dell website that indicates otherwise.

Please follow me closely here, it took some time to compile this info.

Allows first eliminate what would be the simplest solution I already tried, that would be the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" located at this address: http://Windows.Microsoft.com/UpgradeAdvisor

On this Web page, there is a small program to download and install that is supposed to tell me if this computer is compatible with Windows 7 in processor speed, RAM, graphics card, etc. and devices, automatically... Unfortunately, it does not work... I installed it and it stopped with the message: "Windows 7 advisor stopped working" so that program and this option is unnecessary.

It is the "Windows 7 system requirements" list of information... it shows that I need at least a 1 GHZ processor or faster, 32-bit... This Inspiron 531 has a 2 GHZ processor and is 32-bit. This page is says I need 1 GB of RAM... it has 1 GB of RAM. It says I need 16 GB of available disk space, it has a C 138 GB primary hard drive which will be deleted when Windows 7 is ready to be installed. And he said that I need a"Graphics card DirectX 9 (with WDDM1.0 or higher driver)" ... the last part in parentheses is the only part that I'm not sure, but my system via the control panel information shows most of this information as being adequate.

Go to this URL: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/inspd531/en/OM/appendix.htm#wp1149549 to see the Dell Inspiron 531 annex page online and click on the link above titled, 'Specifications' or just scroll to see... there in the category 4th down titled 'Video', it shows the "video integrated Nvidia (DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.9 Graphics Processing Unit) '. This seems to correspond to the above listed"DirectX 9" info page "Windows 7 system requirements".

But then there are 2 pages Web of Dell, which indicate that this Dell Inspiron 531 is only supported by Windows Vista and Windows XP... see this URL for this Web page... http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/osmatrix/index?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs& ~ ck = mn

It shows, once you scroll down just a bit, a list of the current Dell computers that can support Windows 7... the Inspiron 531 is not on this list.
This list excludes the Inspiron 531, but it then says' does not have a computer on these lists? Click here to shop for a new Dell! » .. .bad grammar side, this line that I'm pointing out may just be trying to sell me a new Dell computer, if I actually need or not Dell
    !

And finally my info the computer from the control panel shows aprocessor 2 GHZ, 1 GB of RAM or 958 MB anyway and the 32 bit OS.

And Yes, I ran the built-in diagnostic test Dell PSA on this computer and when it tests the sound card and the speakers, he plays the song a bit in each channel and then on both channels, so I know that the material is good on this computer.
I know it's a lot to go through... it took me a while to compile this info, and I sent a version of this letter with screenshots and other MS Tech in India who I worked with for a month on the phone and email to correct a problem of 'no sound' that simply cannot be beat.
But I'm trying to make sure before I do a clean install of Windows 7, when the disc arrives here, I don't clean it hard drive alone to experience Windows 7 does not work on this machine.
Actually, I'm a Mac user and I don't have much trouble in those... Just trying to fix the computer of my mother for it, and now it seems that trying to install Windows 7 is the only way to get the sound back so that my mom can enjoy some music again.
I never thought that I would like to know as well on the PC troubleshooting I've learned in the last month, but I don't like, and there is still no sound on this computer and everything has been tried... I made a collage of a hundred different error messages from Windows that I think I'll put it up for bid on ebay... I just want to go home to my trusty Macs.

Please give me your comments... I would of course welcome.
    Thank you
    NuMetro

I am happy that you have it installed, but you have sound?

I was too surprised when Windows 7 to install all my drivers in device for me!

The video driver that it wanted to install was even later that of Nvidia. Also, it does not have the driver Physx I needed, so I had to install one myself. The other driver, that he has not installed was the pilot for the X - Fi card. He did install my motherboard if chipset drivers, but I turned around and installed ones that came with my motherboard.

Windows 7 does a better job to settle on earlier versions of Windows, but do not watch install what he wants to make sure that it does not have something that you don't want. He came along and updated my video driver again, but when that happens, it installs just the driver itself and not the driver Physx and my video control panel. Now when he talks about video drivers, I just go to Nvidia and download the full set.

You have the option in there for Windows Update to select which updates you want to allow. I would have put to allow you to decide which ones you want and do not let do it on his own.

I'm glad you're a happy camper! I do not see where you come with Vista, I jumped on this operating system completely because of the horror stories I've heard.

  • Is it useful to transition from the Inspiron 531 to 530?

I have an Inspiron 531 with an AMD Athlon 64 dual core 5600 + and I was thinking about upgrading to an Inspiron 530 with a Qual Core Q9300 CPU. If I do that, I'll install the Nvidia 8600GT and my Combo as well of the 531 player.

Do you think that it would be useful? I love the 531, but I find it a little slow with Vista

  • Inspiron 531 s graphic problems

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, please bear with me. I've had a laptop XPS M140 for some years now and we would like our office by a base of kensington. The monitor is dead on our old HP desktop computer so we opted for the use of the laptop. We found a s at a yardsale Inspiron 531 this weekend that the owner said was bluescreened after a power failure. The monitor and all the other elements were still new in box and never used. That's the only reason why I bought it. Once I got home, I plugged it all and the blue screen was an Unmountable Boot Volume error, which I fixed using my XP drive and the console recovery. This computer has never been connected to the internet and has been used for only game card games.it took a few hours to install SP3 and all other last 3 years worth of updates, but the computer is working fine now. The only problem I have is that it will not download the streaming video or Webcam live webcam. The video/cam will start to load and then stop and display an error message. Is there some software that I'm missing or the need to update. My XPS has never had this problem. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Inspiron 531 does not completely start upward after replacing the power supply?

Hey people. This Inspiron 531 since 2007 and he has been a champion for me. In the past months, the power supply fan start getting real loud (intermittently) so I finally looked around and found the same feed Integrator Delta on ebay. Put him in this afternoon very carefully, but while doing the 'blue' cable hard drive that connects to the motherboard is out the motherboard. There are two connections on the motherboard, SATA 0 and SATA 3. I have no idea who it was so I tried it reconnection to SATA 0 (which was blue too) and all turned on. There, I sat on the DELL screen and no full boot. Shut down and tried the SATA 3 connector and basically the same thing has happened although there was some funky boss on the lower part of the screen and still no full boot.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

Updated - I should also mention this power connectors P4 and P7 were not used until I swapped out.

And also when I try and start I get the DELL screen that shows the F2 and F12 Boot Menu on the top right of the screen.

    jodeluxe

The primary C: / SATA HDD, is connected to SATA 0 connector motherboard.

Are the P1 24 pins and power connectors 4 pin P2, connected to the motherboard?

Have you tried to remove and reinstall all the memory modules and the power data cables in front and all the readers and motherboard, to see if that makes a difference.

Check the power LED button reading, is stable blue, flashing blue, Orange fixed, blinking Amber?

Are there any 'beep', if there is, please publish the sequence of them?

Is this all? I want a Yes of law that will work on the answer or not buy a new PC. I already know that Dell is not the greatest if just imagine how bad Dell + Vista is. Can I run Windows 7 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 531?

    Hello

"I want to run Windows 7 64 bit Vista"

There is NO Windows Vista operating system 7. you have a typo?

No.; Windows 7 will not properly work on your computer and neither will Vista 64-bit.

As you can see on the Dell link provided in this answer, Dell did not write a Vista 64 bit or Windows 7 drivers for the hardware in the Dell Inspiron 531 computer

Click on "Refine your results" > operating system > menu > No Windows 7 drivers listed there

    http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04

Without these drivers, you're wasting your time and most importantly, your money.

  • Is my Dell Inspiron 531 Vista Home Basic s capable of an upgrade to Windows 7?

Is my Dell Inspiron 531 Vista Home Basic s capable of an upgrade to Windows 7?

    Hello

I'm sorry, but your Dell Inspiron 531 s is NOT able to be upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista and with Windows 7 installed and working properly.

As you can read on this link of Dell, Dell did NOT write Windows 7 drivers for your model computer.

    http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19

Under 'refine your results' > 'Operating System' > click the operating system dropdown > NO Windows 7 drivers available

Without the correct Windows 7 hardware drivers to use, you're wasting your time and most importantly, your money.

    See you soon.

  • Upgrade a Dell Inspiron 531 to something with more memory and faster?

Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 531, 32-bit operating system, and the 3G memory in it but is Vista. I tried to upgrade to Windows 7, but after many attempts, could not go without having to clear everything and start over. So I'd do it if I have to do I was wondering if I could make the machine that is more memory better and faster, without having to buy a new computer say a Dell XPS 8300 (that I'll have to run a lot of photographic software in the future and I understand that this could be a good computer for that?) In any case, it is possible to 'upgrade' the computer something like this please, or I have to save my pennies for a new? Thank in advance for your advice.)

    Hello

If you upgraded to 4GBs off RAM you won't get many benefits

Here is an article on what is happening with 4GBs of RAM:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929605

"If a computer has many features implemented, the available memory can be reduced to 3 GB or less." However, the maximum memory available in 32-bit versions of Windows Vista is typically 3.12 GB. »

and you should also consult the Dell manual for your model desktop computer see what amount of RAM your motherboard would answer anyway

    http://support.Dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/manuals?c=us&l=en&s=Gen& ~ CK = anavml

and here is the reason why you can not upgrade to Windows 7

There are no Windows 7 drivers written for her by Dell

  • THE CALICO CAT WINDOWS DESKTOP BACKROUND WILL BE WORK ON A VISTA ULTIMATE 32-BIT WINDOWS AND ANY SERVICE PACKS DELL INSPIRON 531?

I have a Dell Inspiron 531 in the House. It's Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit without service pack. Can I download wallpaper cat Calico of Windows (r) and set it as background?

    Sincerely,.

    Numbuh3wearsabutterflycoutume

PS I went on the site of Microsoft Windows to download, but I cancelled.

Although the calico at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/personalize/wallpaper-desktop-background cat is technically for Windows7, I don't see that this will not work on your system (since it is, after all, just an image).  Go ahead and try it.  I don't think that you will have problems with the issue of the service pack with just a background image.  If it does not or you cannot configure it to your liking, then maybe it does not match with the theme you are using (but which is not likely or must have its size adjusted before putting the context).  But I suspect that it will work fine.

I hope this helps (and BTW, I LOVE the photo since I am a person cat myself).
