S30 Config UCS

We received a S30 and somewhere along the line someone apparently had the brilliant idea of raid SSD and a hard disk of 1 TB in a single volume on the blue ports.

So in the boot order that one disc shows as "UCS: Intel Volume_0001" or something similar.

In the Advanced Configuration of UCS, the first two ports show how Intel Volume_0001.

I am assuming that they could not accomplish this in software because they have created the drives C and D, and a hidden partition on this volume.

Question is how did do that, I don't see any RAID quick post to make changes. I turned on all the relevant BIOS including settings disable the quick start, but all messages that appear are too fast to read.

CTRL + I or Ctrl + H seem to have no effect.

Thank you

Thank you, somehow they corrected, although they have to take it back to the warehouse. Since I don't know what was the exact solution I will mark this as the solution.

  • UCS B420 M3 config problem / question

    Hi all

at this time I had 2 questions requiring my consultation with the community:

    1. I try to get set up on the CCW the sku for UCS B420 M3, but the only part that shows is UCS-B230M2-VCDL1 and does not show any other SKUS for UCS - B series servers, where we cannot set config to get a quote?
    2. In the CET record says that the UCS B420 M3 may had 4 processors, each processor with 8 cores. in this order, you had 32 total cores in the blade?

The SKU is UCSB-B420-M3-you and for the complete solution, you can also use n20-z0001.

Yes B420 M3 has 4 processors with 8 cores per processor, so you can have 32 cores in B420 M3

  • UCS Config - is allowing disruptive VAN?

    Hello

I'm working to implement the UCS in our environment for the first time. We have two 6120 s and a blade single chassis. We are links to the storage of the 6120 s through two MDS 9124 fabric switch (v.4.2(3), I think). If I understand correctly, I need to activate NPV on each of the 9124 s until I can get the UCS to communicate through the fabric. Is this correct? And if so, simply activate VAN will cause a disruption in service to other devices on the MDS switch? We currently have other production systems using the same switches. This time NPIV is already enabled.

Once I get NPV activated, is there something else I need to configure the ports for UCS work?

    Thanks in advance!

    -Adam

You need not enable VAN on the MDS, is the interconnection fabric that works using NPV, not MDS.

NPIV is required on the MDS, so as you already have this option, you should be good to go. You must always configure the MDS ports in the VSAN correct and your zoning based on the WWPN pools that you create in the service profile. On the side of the UCS, make sure that the uplink FC ports are configured in the same VSAN.

  • UCS Fiber Channel FI for San switch wiring & config

My question is about the correct wiring & vSAN configuration by the UCS FI switch San (Cisco MDS).

Currently my wiring is as follows:

    Fi1 port 25 - SW1 port 3

    Fi1 port 26 - SW2 port 3

    Fi2 port 25 - SW1 port 4

    Fi2 port 26 - SW2 4 port

On the side of the switch San, our guys of storage configured vlan10 SW1 and SW2 as vlan20. For this reason, I was not able to have a vSAN by FI, I read is recommended, because the VLAN switch cross FIs. Now, when I created vHBAs I have 4 vHBAs per server, 2 by IFS by vlan if I want redundancy with a switch or a loss of FI.

Question: Is this the correct configuration on the side of the SAN switch? Do I actually create 4 vHBAs per server? I do not have my incorrect wiring & I should just be linking FI1 to SW1 on two ports & FI2 to SW2?

Help or advice would be appreciated!

    ~ Tara

    Hi Tara,

There are two ways of wiring of your SAN infrastructure.  It boils down to a design decision. Traditionally the SAN admins prefer to keep their separate/isolated tissue.  In this design THAT MDS-1 only connect to FI - A and MDS-2 would connect only to the FI - B.

Another option is to connect each MDS at each END.  This gives each FI SAN fabric access and allows to create double VSANS (that exists on each FI) rather than separate them.

You don't need four vHBAs by UCS Server - some adapters support no more than two in any case.   What you do is create two vHBA by the Service profile, each host will have access both to VSAN 10 and 20.  What you can do is to shift your tissue of vHBA while 1/2 access your Service VSAN 10 via FI - profiles and the other half access VSAN 10 FI - B.  This will help to distribute the load accordingly.

    E.g.

    First 1/2 of SPs

    vHBA0 - VSAN10 - fabric-A

    vHBA1 - VSAN20 - fabric-B

    1/2 second of SPs

    vHBA0 - VSAN20 - fabric-A

    vHBA1 - VSAN10 - fabric-B

As you can see a bit of a manual balancing can act.  The best scenario would be to isolate (re-cable) to your network SAN fabrics according to the traditional SAN design above.

  • S30 windows 10

was that someone be able to install the upgrade of windows 10 on S30?

I have a 'stock' S30 (never touched the plant, just a 1 TB HDD config), and allowing the upgrade of windows7, reboot of the system, but the installer win10 said "Please unlock the device, device locked"...

    http://thewindowsclub.thewindowsclubco.NetDNA-CDN.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/the-drive-where-win...

and so can not install... activating a command prompt and do a "diskpart" it seems that all disks are of size 0... Perhaps an incompatibility with chipset C600?

    UPDATE and confirmation:

move the only factory installed hard drive, I had on a UCS port for a port AHCI system, the in situ of win7 for free windows pro 10 improvement that could make no error as expected.

Windows 10 also seems pretty well on my trusty S30 and I write of the it.

For those coming here for the search engines with more complex configurations (ie. strange raid CONF. etc.) : my setup is extremely simple with no critical requirement (I use this S30 upgraded home): BIOS flashed to last before the update, bios RAID is disabled for me, also disabled UCS for me after the change above, only one hard drive (I always keep all my data in an external NAS dedicated network), nvidia GTX780 asus essence STX.

Also a good old "lenovo system update' run after that Win10 appears, it does not hurt.

  • ThinkStation S30 has problems with SSD MX100

I installed a MX100 Crucial 256 GB SSD in my S30 machines running Windows 8.1.

The BIOS seems to recognize the MX100 and I was able to do a new install of Windows 8.1 which seems to work OK.

However, the Crucial software Executive Storage fails to find the SSD in the machines so I'm not able to update the firmware to the latest version. Also, I tried to update the firmware using the ISO Crucial manual method that does as well.

My Windows 8.1 installation is up-to-date and as suggested in one of the messages on the forum, I installed a RST from Intel software.

Anyone has any ideas, any suggestions on how I can get the softare to run on the ThinkStation S30.

Psuturtle thank you very much for your answer. You are quite correct.

I had the MX100 connected to the blue SATA UCS port. I coonected drive to port 15 and was able to update the firmware using the ISO manual method.

However, Executive Storage still can't find the drive. I did a comparison test on the two types of SATA port and the port SATA of UCS is much slower than the legacy port. So, your help is very appreciated for helping me resolve the MX100 in ThinkStation S30.

  • UCS 2.0 Documentation loop

    Hey all,.

I am interested in the THICK scaling with interconnection mode the port channel.

The next section in the Configuration Guide indicates that there is a document:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/partner/docs/unified_computing/UCS/SW/GUI/config/Guide/2.0/b_UCSM_GUI_Configuration_Guide_2_0_chapter_01110.html#concept_09169B12A90C4581B16592B8B8963491

Where there is a link called:

KEEN, scaling for the Mode Port channel fabrics

Which loops to the same page.

Google search for the title I make no where except the following:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/unified_computing/UCS/HW/chassis/install/install.html#wp1346269

Once again, no real detail except:

Inside the 6248 fabric interconnect, there are six sets of eight contiguous ports, with each set of ports managed by a single chip. When the uplinks are connected such as all uplinks from the IOM are connected to a set of ports managed by a single chip, Cisco UCS Manager optimizes the number of bait used in the profiles of service deployed on the blades in the chassis. If the IOM uplink connections are distributed through the ports managed by separate chips, the QUICK count is decreased.

Can someone point me to the actual documentation scaling of high HEAT?

Manage ports Uplink Fiber Channel FCoE traffic between the interconnection of fabric and the next layer of the

SAN storage network. All FCoE network-related traffic is pinned to one of these ports.

By default, the Fibre Channel ports are uplink. However, you can configure them to work as Fibre Channel

I want to install CUCM 8.5 is the NIC Teaming/failover supported by UCS C200 and how to set up the NIC Managment interface with failover?

    Thank you.

    Hello

As you install apps from the CPU on the server of the UCS, speech application team listed their recommendations here.

    http://docwiki.Cisco.com/wiki/QoS_Design_Considerations_for_Virtual_UC_with_UCS#Guidelines_for_Physical_LAN_Links.2C_Trunking_and_Traffic_Sizing

You can create a NIC teaming in the ESXi via vSphere client software for traffic from from / destined for virtual machines.

For C200, we have only one management port and if you use the management for MMIC traffic port, switch option is not available.

However, if you choose to use host for MMIC traffic NETWORK ports, you can set up CIMC NIC mode for 'LOM shared' which provides the NIC teaming options.

  • DMZ virtualization and network design. UCS + VMWARE

Until now, we had a network physically segmented with internal and external vtp different areas/zones. Keys "inner area" hear a VLAN and keys "outer zone" along a VLAN different. VLANs are not propagated between different areas for security reasons, are isolated.

Currently, we started to work with UCS + VMWARE, and we are facing difficulties. According to the previous model, if virtualize us servers within the internal battery of the UCS area, we cannot not virtualize servers within the outer external in the same UCS, since I wish to propagate VLAN switches area internal as well as for the farm of the UCS, mix. As a result, the isolation would be lost.

I'm reviewing my network base, in order to adapt current infrastructure to the new with UCS + VMWARE, without missing any point security.

My main point, is whether it is possible to virtualize external virtual machines and internal area in the same UCS, without compromising the security of my network.

Could you give me some advice or design guide?

    Kind regards

    Hello-

You are right that upward through UCS 1.4 all them VLAN should be available on the switches upstream.  However, UCS 2.x introduced a feature named "Disjoint L2."  By using this feature, you will be able to connect interconnect fabric to your internal network and the DMZ, then configure the VLANs to blades.

  • configuration of DST in UCS 2.02 q

    Hi all

We are in the time zone IS (Sydney Australia).

We just improved our ucs to 2.02 q system and found that the clock of the UCS is fast than before 1 hour.

As attached shows, we have not changed the time zone configuration after upgrade.

I am connected to the UCS NXOS and I found the following configuration on the time zone:

    UCS - A (nxos) # show running-config | clock Inc.

    clock timezone IS 10-0

summer time clock IS 4 Sunday March 02:00 5 Sunday October 03:00 60

Above summer time config is bad for me.

    In Australia:

Daylight saving time begins at 02:00 on the first Sunday in October and ends at 02:00 (which is 03:00 daylight saving time) the first Sunday in April.

Anyone from cisco can confirm that it is bug in the firmware or not?

    Best regards

    David,

I am able to recreate the problem in the lab. When it prompts you, it displays the correct time, but after that commit us the changes, the system is configured with + 1 hour of the suggested time stamp.
