• ASA / ASA site-site as a rescue link

  I was instructed to implement a plan to use a link from site to site vpn as a link to backup remote offices.  I try to simulate the solution in a laboratory, but have some difficulty with it. Our offices are currently a point-to-point fiber.  The site to site VPN will act as a backup if this link should happen to fail.

  The sites use OSPF to establish the route between HQ core router and the L3 switch at the remote site.  I have set up with a metric of 250 that will kick in if the link goes down and the OSPF routes are removed static routes.  The static route goes to the ASA devices.  Once the link does not work, the fall of OSPF routes and the static shot in (this set works very well), sending traffic to the ASAs, who then set up the VPN tunnel between sites. With the logging at the debug, I can see the connections under construction and destroyed normally and two ASAs looks like traffic flow, but it's not.  I can't ping everywhere, and nothing connects.  My test of office, printers, etc, all lose the connection to the side of HQ and will not function.  I get no message of refusal on the ASA.

  I have one site to site with a provider using the same ASA at Headquarters, and that works very well.  All VPN settings have been created using the wizard ASMD VPN.

  The two ASA run 8.3.  The two ASA have their default route defined on the outside.

  Any suggestions on where to find would be appreciated.  The HQ uses several different subnets, which must be accessible from the remote site.  The VPN is defined for all 4, but if I look at the his (sh crypto ipsec his), it only shows me a.  However, the tunnel client that works uses 2 on the side of HQ and working.  I'm trying a lot with 4?  Should I try build 4 separate virtual private networks, one for each subnet?

  You should be fine with 4 different statements within your traffic interesting ACL on the 5505.  I noticed one thing, is that the 5505 receives its IP via DHCP, so I guess that you have a static dynamic L2L type of an installation.  With this type of configuration, the tunnel must always be launched side 5505 (dynamic).  One thing to watch is to check that your NAT statement are properly sorted.  With 8.3, the NAT order is very important.

  If the dynamic NAT is in front of the VPN NAT rule, the VPN NAT rule will never be implemented.  You should be able to issue the command 'See the nat' or 'show nat performance' to check the VPN NAT comes before the dynamic NAT.  If the dynamic NAT appears before the VPN NAT rule, you want to remove the dynamic NAT rule and reapply.

• Problematic relief of local link - how to avoid?

  In short:

  cFP-2220 devices (probably all VxWorks based controllers with local DHCP/link mode) stop if they stop to establish a local connection and the router has Proxy ARP active. This happens when / if the controller checks whether the link local address is to be used is free by sending an ARP request to this address - and the router due to proxy arp, respons this address pointing to the router. The controller will try a different link-local address, then another (see photo below)... until he concludes that the interface failed to initialize restart... and then finally positioned itself in SafeMode because of repeated failures.

  

  Question/problem to be solved:
  Disable Proxy ARP resolves the problem, but this isn't a good behaviour in the first place (in fact help to post a link-local is deprecated according to RFC3927 (see section 2.11). Unfortunately, as far as I can see, cFP-2220 doesn't have an option DHCP only, only DHCP/link Local. Is there a work around to get DHCP only?

  The longer story:

  We spent a lot of time on a very particular problem lately--namely that all our CFP - 2220 s would crash on a customer network, not ours, if the controllers have been configured to use DHCP on NIC 1, and the DHCP server has been disconnected. We really want the controller to keep his old address dynamically received if the DHCP server is in mode offline, but as FAS as we know, this feature is not possible on LV RT (it is on Windows, for example), then we have found a solution where the application of the RT will store the last known valid IP and the use of the system API to navigate between DHCP and static addresses from if DHCP requests fail or not... However, this whole solution failed miserably on the network of the Subscriber... that we, after a looong trip, now traced to not have anything with the application of the RT to do at all after all (no app to crash). It's the local rescue link that causes a crash when combined with the configuration of the router of the client.

• ASA base S2S VPN, Tunnel establishes only when interesting traffic hits to end distance

  Dear all,

  I need your help to solve the problem mentioned below.

  VPN tunnel established between the unit two ASA.   A DEVICE and device B

  (1) if interesting traffic initiates a LAN device. traffic ACL hits. TUNEL is not coming

  (2) if interesting traffic initiates B LAN device. Tunnel will establish all the works of serivces

  (3) after the Tunnel device establishmnet B. We forced to tunnel down at both ends. Interesting again traffic initiates device a surpringly tunnel

  will go up.   After 2 or 3 days (after life expire 86400 seconds) initiated traffic of device A, tunnel will not esatblish.

  (it comes to rescue link: interesting won't be there all the time.)

  checked all parametrs, everthing seems fine. Here are the logs of attached but not more informative debugging on the balls. Please suggest.

  card crypto bidirectional IPsec_map 1 set-type of connection

  Hi Mohammad,.

  The link you are trying is the TCS rescue mode. The reason for its non audit admin uname & pwd you might have changed the authentication settings on the site settings page. If authentication earlier was local and you have changed domain or LDAP then TCS will try to authenticate by using this mechanism and will not take admin local credentails.

  To avoid this, once connected via rescue link, create a user with admin rights

  Configuration > users and groups > add users and group > add a user with rights to site manager

  Log out and then try looging with the user that you created. It works perfectly.

  This also happens when earlier you use domain authentication and you've changed your LDAP authentication or vice versa. Creation of the user with rights to site manager is so important before you change the authentication mechanism.

  If you are unable to remember your password, security issues, do not have access to your address of rescue or are unable to reset your password for any reason, your only option is to contact the Support of Apple ID, to speak to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID This way you can be attributed to the assistance, even if you do not have an AppleCare plan.

  Hi, I use Acronis image to make backups of hard disk of my G10. I have to be able to boot from the CD Acronis Rescue Media ISO I created. I intercept startup by pressing F12 and change the priority to boot to a CD. He said something like 'Attempt to link', then "Of a media failure, check cable", then continue to boot in XP.
