Samsung 850 EVO and Macbook Pro 2011

I have read of many post related to this, but I think my problem is different.

I tried to move from a HARD (really a hybrid of seagate SSHD) drive a Samsung EVO 850 500 GB into a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.11.2 (early 2011)

I did the cloning with the ccc, the HDD (SATA) SSD (USB) without problem.

Linking the SSD on SATA port all was extremely slow, to the point that I had a ball of spinning for any action and even write login/pass takes a few minutes. I did some fsck boot single-user system and checked the logs, but no error at all. Tried the two enable trimforce and people with reduced mobility.

Repair partition takes forever to start, up to the time where I'm not ever leave at the end (after more than an hour).

As the SSD works very well (to about 30 MB/sec) USB I have that this error was the infamous SATA cable, but I am reluctant to this topic, because:

1. - the HARD drive works fine with the same cable (to about 100 MB/s)

2 - make a bench in SSD (BlackMagic...) he gives 500 MB/s for both read & write, it seems speed is ok.

3.-j' have linux small partition ultimately not yet set up to start SSD. With SSD in SATA bay, booting from a USB Ubuntu, I can perfectly copy data between applications SSD (linux partition) at a very brisk pace, it seems that the SSD or cable are defective.

Do you have advice on where the problem may be.

I'm out of ideas

Thank you

AA

I have trying further.

First of all, connect the SSD to a PC and the cloning of W7. Cloned and start Ok and fast, but the PC has little time and SATA2 ports only, so I was unable to test mode SATA3.

Then, test the SSD connected to SATA port in macbook with Drive Genius. Integrity tests was Ok to read and write, with speeds of around 450 MB/s in both directions. However, copy a single file from the finder or terminal takes ages, both for the small (Kb) or support files (MB)...

According to some messages here, similar problems were caused by a bad SSD or a cable failed. According to the tests, the disc is ok (I can get about 450 MB/s) and the cable is Ok (disc is allways found, slowly, but).

Any advice?

    Thanks for the reply.

Hi, you can activate the trim after you have backed up your important things. I enabled it and don't have any problem and better see the SSD performance, but some of my friends in the face of a gray screen at startup upward.

Also, I can say that you will not have problem as long as Apple allow you to do something on your Mac

  • Samsung 850 EVO Solid State Drive works only with the MacBook Pro - Solution?

I recently bought a Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB Solid State Drive for mid 2012 MacBook Pro father. The computer was working properly, but it was just very slow. I took the old drive and installed the SSD. I took it to an Apple store so that they could install the OS. A guy at the Genius Bar met with me and first tried to install the OS via the Ethernet cable. It is impossible to install some general error. He then tried to install it on a disc. Which also failed. He said he was not familiar with the type of error that he saw. But he said it was a mistake 'bad '. He said he saw the SSD for my SATA cable worked. He concluded that the reader must be defective. I explained how it is virtually impossible because they have a rate of close to zero. He said: "well they are produced en masse" and explained how they could install a hard drive themselves for some too expensive price. A bit annoying.

In any case, I took the SSD back to my house and threw it in my desktop PC. It works very well. Then what should I do? Why am I not able to get the SSD to install it? From what I read, the Samsung 850 EVO should be compatible with a MacBook Pro 2012. Can I do to install it at home? Is that all I can say people at the Mac store to help them along?

Most likely, the drive is formatted for use with Windows computers. First step would be to format correctly for Macs.

This is Mac OS extended (journaled) with a GUID partition map.

OS X will only be installed on a properly formatted disk.

I've been thinking out the disc and its replacement with an OWC (mercury Accelsior E2) or a conventional hard drive. Another option could be upgraded to the latest OS X Server 5.0.3.

The panic occurred because the queue of the AHCI is truncated. Thus all things SATA are immediately suspect.

These extensions on the "scene of the crime" are used ordinary ACHI drivers for SATA drive.

In your added kernel extensions, you have an additional driver for RocketRAID. If possible, you should remove only while debugging this problem. It was not explicitly on the "crime scene", but it may have made changes that caused the instability.

In addition, readers could be involved in this problem, as a failed drive can spray data in the wrong section of memory, rewrite of things.

My Macbook Pro 2011 (start) 13 "has served me very well. I took the approach to resist many updates over the past 1.5 years).

However, in the last 6 weeks, it really began to slow down. I'm not too keen on the storage in the Macbook Pro 2015 options so not sure I want to buy immediately. • Pavilion DV6215us: Pavilion DV6215us and upgrade to SSD Samsung 850 EVO does not.

Pavilion DV6215us is SSD Samsung 850 EVO compatible? I cloned the original Hitachi hard drive and everything was going well. I have installed the Samsung and porwered upwards. The answer is only pushed Esc to get to settings that meets never or boots.  Given that the new drive to adapt very well and everything seemed fine before installing it is there any reason this SSD shouldn't work?  Y at - it info on SSD drives will work with the laptop?  Thank you

Yes the DV6000 by DV6499 series with AMD processor is not able to support an SSD. The storage controller uses a SATA interface, but it is 'false' SATA running on a legacy IDE bus. No ahci, which is necessary for the operation of the SSD. That's why we put Windows XP on them without any special driver tips during installation.

  • Samsung 850 EVO Trimforce

Hi, I recently installed a samsung 850 EVO my end 2011 MacBook Pro and I have read the weather or not, it is safe to turn on third-party SSD trimforce. But I couldn't find a solid answer anywhere. I also learned that there may be a bug in data loss with the Samsung models, but I'm not sure that this is true.

You will get different views about the FILLING. Personally, I don't use the TRIM on 3rd party SSD. I do not quite written deserve its usefulness. So, I leave the built-in SSD Garbage Collection performance of the drive. That being said, I don't know of friends who have enabled on their Samsung 850 EVO SSD of TRIM and have not experienced any problems with corruption data.

It's yours if you want to activate the TRIM on your Samsung.

  • Dell Latitude e5440 - Samsung 850 EVO mSATA SSD not recognized

I bought a new 500 GB Samsung 850 EVO mSATA SSD for my Dell Latitude e5440 (running Windows 7 Pro).  The new player was not visible in 'Computer', so I downloaded, installed and ran the software Samsung magician.

Samsung software shows that the drive is present.  And there is a button "Validate" - I clicked on - and now: ' Drive Health Status: Good ' and ' serial number: true "appears.

However, the SSD is not visible when I double-click on computer and the Samsung software States:

    a. "AHCI Mode. Disabled (IDE or RAID).  AHCI mode is necessary for the best performance of the SSD. »

    b. SATA Interface s. o. cannot detect SATA interface details.

    c. s. o. OS OS optimization is supported only for disks using an operating system drive.

Question 1: Activation of this AHCI mode will allow Windows to recognize the SSD?

    Question 2: How do I?

Question 3: Activate the AHCI mode "switch off" (logout) my HDD 2.5 "?  (I want to keep Windows 7 to 2.5 "HARD disk and install Windows 10 on the SSD to have a dual boot system, until I got used to Windows 10).

Inside of your battery compartment is a label with your license key Windows 7 OEM on it.  Photograph it.

Download and prepare a USB key with a copy of Windows 10 TH2 Pro.

Remove the disk 2.5 "and connect the new drive mSATA.

Boot the system to the USB key.  10 Windows Installer should be of the presence of the DSS and will allow you to do the installation of Windows 10 - which in turn is almost certainly going to install the network driver suitable for your system without the need to add anything else.

USE your 7 product key when prompted and you should be all set.

Once this is done, you can reconnect the disk 2.5 "If you want to do - but remember that 10 installation is done separately from the 2.5 disk".

Then I get an error message that says "Installer disc cannot is, wait a few minutes for something (I forget exactly).»

So I wait and nothing happens and I'm back on the screen SELECT TASK.

    ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED.

  • connection with a 1 TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD HD problems

I recently bought 4 Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB SSDS that are recommended by Convergent design to be used with an Odyssey 7 q + VCR. In order to get the images on the timeline of Final Cut, I put on a SATA Adapter USB 3 SSD drives (mine is powered) and use software, once the disc appears on the Finder. Problem is that none of these Samsung 850 EVO appear on the finder. I checked my SATA USB adapter by plugging another brand of SSD drive. It works perfectly.

Could someone help me with this issue? With a price of around $450, I don't really want these SSD drives to put useless due to a problem of Apple...

I even tried to force allow the filling with this command: 'sudo trimforce enable', not work.

  • Memory - Macbook Pro 2011

    Help, please! I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch end 2011. I want to upgrade the memory of 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) to 16GB (2 x 8 GB).

Can I buy 16GB and they say it's for the MacBook Pro 2011, but it says on the site of Apple 8GB maximum memory.

Everyone is running 16GB and it works fine?

I upgraded to El Capitan, and my mac seems slower.

Back in 2011 8 GB SODIMM costs $1000 + if they still existed.  Apple tested the SODIMM 4 GB at reasonable price and never reviewed the hardware older after 8 GB SODIMM fell to $50.

I run 16 GB Crucial in my MBP 2011 very well.  Crucial or OWC (macsales.com) sell RAM reliable and provide guarantees for life.

  • In order to get updates of Firefox, I need to install El Capitan.  El Capitan work well on a MacBook Pro 2011?

Have a 2011 MacBook Pro, just received a message from Firefox saying that they support is more Yosemite 10.10.5 in a few months (updates, security updates etc.) and I need to improve my ios.  Question... are there problems with El Capitan on a MacBook Pro 2011?  Thank you

not that I've heard of. You will need to make sure that you have at least 4 GB of ram on board, except that you should be good to go. Log in the App store, grab a copy and follow the instructions on the screen. You may need to reboot at least once...

    Good luck

  • I can feed my Macbook Pro 2011 usb port

Is it possible to power (charge) my MacBook Pro 2011 USB port?  I had the case where I forgot my card (or used my MacBook more than expected) and he should be charged.  Since normally the USB provides power, I didn't connect it to a power outlet (via adapter).

I am running OSX El Capitan.

    Thank you

N ° USB came out only one power supply.

    Ciao.
