SanDisk Extreme USB Flash Drive and SMART failure

I just got 3 64 GB SanDisk Extreme USB Flash Drives and all three show SMART failures to reassign bad sectors. I struggle to believe that all three could be bad on first use. I use a program on a Mac (SoftRAID(4)) to certify all drives prior to use, including the SD cards and USB keys. I've never seen a failure so far.

Readers see the successful certification but present a SMART failure.

What is a disk problem or a SMART question or what?

Thank you

Lief

I agree that it is unlikely to have failed on the first use. Most likely, it is a problem with the SMART attributes. IIRC sandisk can't CHIP for this product so it formats without error, and data can be copied onto the discs with success, I wouldn't worry too much on this subject.

  • Windows Explorer stops working whenever I have connect a USB flash drive and try to access

    Hello. I use Windows Vista.

I had a particular problem. Whenever I have plug in a USB key and try and access it, I get a pop saying "Windows Explorer has stopped working." the file is closed. If I wait a long time (i.e. 10 seconds), I might be able to get into the drive without any problems, but even when there is no guarantee. The problem persists in each USB slot I use. In addition, it is not that the computer is not able to detect it. It can detect and identify that it is a USB flash drive. It's just that whenever I try to access (or the folders inside the flash player), windows Explorer stops working and restarts.

Does anyone have this problem before? And any help is appreciated. Thank you.

The mistake made reference the MSVCR80.dll, which is a Microsoft file, but it may be another third party file, causing the problem.

  • HP Elitedesk 800 G2 SFF: external hard drive not detected in the BIOS. Only USB Flash drives are detected.

    Hi all

I received recently 2 new HP desktop computers.

    HP Elitedesk 800 G2 SFF

    HP Elitedesk 800 G2 TWR

The goal is to test our real W7 x 64 image on these machines and to inject the missing drivers in the image.

MDT 2010 to create a deployment on a USB hard disk drive.

This disc of deployment is already used on 16 different models of HP in the company (Elitebook, zBook, EliteDesk) to install our image so I know it works.

Unfortunately, the two HP Elitedesk 800 G2, I can't start the boot disk but I cannot to USB for a USB key.

The USB drive is not detected and not proposed in the BIOS Menu of STARTUP.

Only the internal HD, external USB Flash Disk, DVD and network devices are detected.

Here's what I already checked or tried:

    • Latest Version of the BIOS installed (2.05)
    • UEFI Boot has been disabled. (not supported by our record of deployment)
    • USB ports are enabled (front and rear).
    • All types of USB devices are allowed in the BIOS
    • The start command has been changed to start with USB devices.
    • Legacy support is active and Secure Boot disabled
    • Delete the keys to secure boot
    • Reset secure by default startup keys
    • This morning, I created a new disk deployment on a USB Flash drive and it works!

So, it seems that only Flash USB drives are detected.

I know it is possible to return the flag removalble on a USB device to cheat the system and make it appear as a disk fixed, but I want a simple solution.

Does anyone know a fix or a workaround for this problem?

    Thanks in advance!

For those interested in the answer, here's the final results.

It turns out that the hard 500 GB external drive can be detected if it is fomatted in FAT32.

It's strange because my 16 GB USB Flash drive formatted in NTFS works very well.

In any case, I'll create a FAT32 Partition to the Boot MDT files and put my picture (because the file is too big for FAT32 partition) on the secondary partition (formatted as NTFS).

Thanks to the technical pre-sales team of HP who helped me with this!

However, when I tried to retrieve OEM provided using the USB flash drive by following the directions at creation and use of a recovery of Microsoft USB drive (Windows 8) "System Recovery" was not available to the title of "troubleshooting." Hello and happy new year to all, (I'm from greeece, sorry for the mistakes of language possible)

    (Pavilion dv6-6c01ev - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - bought 08-21-12)

I want to create a USB stick recovery, and I just bought a USB flash drive 32 GB 3.0 for this reason.

I've never done it before, but I have read how, according to the this page.

    My question is:

What file system must be the USB key, before the decision-making process? FAT32 or NTFS ?

Bought, thati USB file system is FAT32 by default.

I already read that on the page above: 'a message of Recovery Manager opens indicating that the flash drive will be formatted. Click OK to format the USB key and continue. »

but I would like to have, and a more definite answer from someone who knows better.

So, does change the NTFS file system.

or should I now start the manufacturing process of the recovery USB flash drive as it is (FAT32)

    Thank you for your help

I have already created the recovery USB flash drive, and formatted Recovery Manager the disk before the process,

and at the end, when the recovery files was written and verifyed.

I look at the file system of the USB flash drive, and it's NTFS...

  • Laptop HP 15-R084NG: is it possible to copy a HP recovery on another USB flash drive support?

    Hello.

    Just a few questions please:

    1. when I do only once "HP Recovery Media" to a USB key, I can then 'copy' and 'paste' on another USB flash drive as long as the 2nd flash player has sufficient capacity?

    The recovery still works well?

I ask this question in case I have to change to another USB flash drive and I am aware I can only have a copy of the HP recovery.

    2. If this is the case, I then can also make a backup on a Western Digital external drive so that in case of malfunction of the USB flash drive, can I still transfer files to another USB flash drive?

Thanks in advance for the answer.

  • I lost memory to the usb flash drive space, help me please.

I formatted 2 gb usb flash drive, and now he has 247 MB of available space.
in computer SCIENCE, I chose flash drive (E), then right-click on it and choose FORMAT.

    Hello

    1. What is the number of brand and model of the flash player?

I suggest you plug the flash drive on another computer running on Windows 7 and check if the problem persists.

You can try to format the drive falash using MS DOS and cehck if that helps.

    (a) click on the start menu

    (b) prompt to type in the start search bar (run as administrator command prompt)

    (c) type "format [drive letter]:" at the command prompt, replace "[drive letter]" by the letter of the drive you want to format.

    (d) then press the Enter"" key. Note that the drive letter must be followed by a colon - for example: "format c:".

    (e) support on 'Y' If you are prompted to confirm if you want to erase everything on the hard drive. Confirm that you want to continue. MS-DOS will start to reformat your hard disk and all data

    on the disc is erased.

If the problem occurs on another computer as well, then the issue may be with the flash drive corrupted, in this case, you can get in touch with the manufacturer for assistance.

  • How to automatically store scans on a USB flash drive

How can I change the default destination for the scans in Windows 7 Fax & Scan go somewhere other than my C:\.  I want all scans go to a USB flash drive and NEVER written on the C:\ drive at all, but can not find a way to do it.

    It is not easy.

    See this thread--> http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/windows-fax-and-scan-move-default-folder-location/221b8942-1242-4bc5-8350-5f68a68fd02b

In particular, see the response of J Thorne on November 22, 2012.  See also the answer of wizzardking on April 30, 2014.  Ignore the 'response '.

I have my doubts, however, about the universal applicability of the solution of J Thorne (and directions of research of the wizzardking seem to either correct for me).

My scanner does not use Windows Fax and Scan and so I might miss the registry entries that point to "Documents scanned.  This is perhaps why I have not found references to the 'Documents' in my registry.  What I can tell you is that

    (a) I reinstalled my whole profile on my D: drive.

    (b) Accordingly, "My Documents" is located at D:\Users\\Documents; and

    (c) I have a "Documents" folder located in D:\Users\\Documents\Scanned Documents.

I do not have a "Documents" folder on my C drive:- but I do not know if WF & S would have created such a file there if I had put in place a scanner that uses WF & S.

Another issue I have with the solution of J Thorne is the name of the current folder 'Documents' and not 'My Documents' (the latter is a "junction point" - a pointer to the actual location, see the LINK).  For example, the registry looking for "My Documents" may not come to something useful.

You only must not move your entire "My Documents" (i.e., C:\Users\Documents) folder on your flash drive.  IMO, that would be very dangerous.

My suggestion is - very important - create a Restore Point or otherwise back up your registry (LINK) and then use regedit.exe to search the registry for the 'digitized Documents' (without the quotes).  If you find the entries that point to a location on the C: drive, create a new folder on your USB key and change the registry accordingly.  You can also search for 'My Documents' or simply 'Documents' - in each case, do not include the quotes.

Keep in mind that if you delete you flash drive and you connect to something else, the next time you insert the drive flash it may assign a different drive letter - so WF & S may throw an error or your scans can be found somewhere that you didn't intend them to be.

    Good luck.

I am running Windows XP on a Dell XPS laptop.  When I joined the SanDisk Cruzer Flash Drive or a mouse with Logitech M215 wireless computer detects it and tries to load a driver but just by saying no driver found.  I use other mice wireless and other readers flash without any problems.  I went on the Web from Logitech website and SanDisk and they both say no driver required.  I contacted Logitech and they said it's a matter of Microsoft's operating system.  Where can I get a driver to run both devices.  Also when I go to the hardware profile the other device has a yellow box? next to him.  I try to uninstall the driver and updated it but without success.  Still looking for a driver.  Where can I find the driver.  Help.

    1. have you tried plugging it into different USB ports and check?

    2. did you try to use the same flash player and mouse on another computer and check if it works there?
