Satellite 1800-854 - problem BIOS

Hello

I have laptop satellite s1800-854, and I have error 'BIOS (block1) is damaged.
I'm trying to follow this topic:
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19801&MessageID=72625
but after downloading the bios, I found only three files inside:
BIOFC72T.COM
CHGBIOSA. EXE
Readme for Sam 1800.pdf

I can't found the *.bin BIOS file.

I tried to put these files on the floppy drive, but CHGBIOS (v4.24) only displays "BIOS file not found on the disk.

Could someone give me a link to the bin file, or send it to my mail ([email protected])?
Thank you.
Best regards.
Szamot.

P.S. Sory for my English.

There is also based on windows update BIOS (2.10 - WIN) and it can be run under the operating system currently running. Have you tested?

    Hello

There is nothing wrong with the hardware of the laptop but only with the BIOS!
I read a few threads on a similar BIOS problem and it seems the BIOS has to be flashed again on the special way!

    Am I wrong?
Well, this disc of maintenance is needed to repair the BIOS and only the authorized service provider could do that!

  • Satellite 1800 - modem problem

I have a dial connection whenever I try to connect to the internet, I get an error message saying that the remote computer has failed.

I XP MS and connection to the internet has always been a bit hit and Miss. Impossible with aol, fine with BT I now live somewhere with blue cable installed there and have had problems since.

I tried a virus with a startup disk check - nothing. I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled the latest version. I'm trying to get hold of an external modem to check if my modem. I don't really know about these things, but certainly a modem no longer works or it's not - there is not between the two? After you have reinstalled the driver that I managed to connect, but has been disconnected aftre about 20 minutes and have not been able to connect from. I'm out of ideas. Can anyone help?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello Madeline

As you know, it is not easy to give you all the help on this path. First of all it is important to make sure that your modem is operational. Your ad the modem functionality is not connection just problem to your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
    Am I wrong?

Can you please test your modem and check the results. You will find in the properties of the modem under Diagnostics.
The only thing I can recommend is to remove the modem from Device Manager and dial-up connection. Restart the device and the modem will be detected again. Create the new connection dial-up and pay attention to all parameters.

    Hi all!

I have problems with my Satellite 1800 750 therefore than the hard drive not to be recognized. Means I can start from floppy disk or CD-ROM, but not hard drive. I create in the hard drive to another laptop and it works well. In the BIOS, I see two (HD and CDROM) IDE devices. From pure DOS diskette and try running fdisk also does not show me the HD.
What can be? It is a total mistake on card mother IDE #1 have a defect or is it a BIOS problem? Or something else?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

    Kind regards
    Werner

    Hi Werner,.

He cannn be your IDE controller has a loose contact.

But in a first time, you must set the BIOS to the factory settings. Press ESC key after power! Then you have a short list of commands at the bottom of the screen!

If this does not solve the problem you correctly a hardware fault. This should be checked by a Toshiba Service partner. Go to https://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com - support & downloads - find an authorized Service partner

  • Failed to create the floppy disk to update the BIOS on the Satellite 1800-712

I downloaded the latest bios for the laptop, but when I try to follow the instructions given (unzip, insert a formatted 1.44 MB floppy, run the *.exe file and a 1.44 MB must be created) nothing happens. Any ideas what should I do? Thanks in advance.

    Hello

I found this thread in the forum:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19801&MessageID=72625

The case described in the thread above is very similar to your question.
According to this message that every newer BIOS has a protection mechanism which means that even in the case of an incomplete process of flashing, the area responsible for in the BIOS flash for the upgrade is never deleted.

Generally you should contact the service point in your country for this problem, but perhaps the description in the other thread will help you.
But you know, everything you do is at you own risk

    Hello
My satellite 1800-921 has started to give me a black screen after I turn it on. It loads well, go to the desktop and then the screen turns white and I can't make it respond. We can just distinguish the dialogs on the screen so I don't know if it is a screen problem or things I see on the screen are just ghosts...
    It's a bit worrying!
Does anyone else have this problem? So far, it seems to happen when I turn it on. Usually, I have to turn it off and reboot to get it back and then it works very well.
    Thank you

    Hello

to the old series, it may be that the FL inverter is broken or damaged the tupe of backlight. In both cases, you can see the screen but without backlight!

To differi if it is a hard - or software error, you should start the laptop and ESC immediately to enter the BIOS. Then the machine must be running half an hour in the BIOS. When the rupture occurred it is quite sure that some hardware is broken. Otherwise, it is a software based and a restore with recovery CD Toshiba should solve the problem!

    Hey everybody.

I just bought an old Satellite 1800-314 (Cel 1.1 GHZ, 256 RAM, 16 MB graphics card) from my college and I tried
the parameters of this model using the AIDA 32 program.
To my surprise to read RAM showed only 148 Mbps - slower than the Pentium MMX 166 test and the writing of RAM showed only 51 MB/s-more slowly then K6 266.
Any applications, such as games (too old) works very slowly.

What can be a reason for this?
    And what is DMI problem?

    Hello

There is the original memory built in Notepad?
Seems to be something with the RAM or the motherboard is wrong!

But it is very difficult to find a solution!

In my opinion, you should backup your data and do a restore. After the recovery of finishing procedure install a few different benchmarks and test if the RAM is now faster, isn't.

  • Update the BIOS on a Satellite 1800-314

    Hello

I have an old Satellite 1800-314 and I want an update of the BIOS. I did an update of the BIOS on my desk, but never on a laptop. Is there someone who could help me with a manual or something else?

    Hi Antoni,

I also have a Sat 1800-314 and I could explain how to upgrade a BIOS.

The first step is to find your current version of the BIOS (in the HWsetup or look you in the BIOS, after turning on the power button, press and hold ESC and you will enter the BIOS), then the next step, go to the Toshiba site http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com, then click on support & downloads and go to the support home page and look if there is available as your latest BIOS version and download it.

If the preparation is done and you have to extract the zip file containing the upgrade of the BIOS on a 1.44 MB formatted floppy. Make sure that the PC is connected to the power adapter. Stop, and then turn on the PC. Press and hold the button depending on the layout of the keyboard is located right between the keys Alt Gr and INS pushed until a beep sounds and the message "ready for the update of the BIOS. Place the BIOS update floppy in the drive and press any key when you are ready to move forward,"will be displayed.

Place the floppy disk containing the BIOS upgrade in the floppy drive and press a key. FDD access will begin. When you're prompted by the message: "Please push the RESET switch (or turn the AC OFF power off / WE) to restart", remove the disk and turn off the system and turn it on again to restart the PC.

    BEWARE: Info-BIOS-Ce is only for a SATELLITE 1800 314!

I found this Information on the following site http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com when you go to the Support home page and click on the Knowledge Base. You will find a very good FAQ of the BIOS that contains all the various procedures of BIOS for Toshiba laptops.

  • Satellite 1800-412/battery/screen? problem...

    Hello
Sorry for the English, I will try to explain my prob
I have a 1800-412 2 years old (out of warranty) and now big problems with the display when I'm working on it:
Evry time I turn on the laptop, the screen flashes and nothing shows up except when I press the little button at the top right (this one is pulled down when I close the screen). Then the screen lights up for 5 or 10 seconds and new Moul. In fact, I can see the screen, but it seems that there is no brightness... It is very very bland out (?)...
This problem seems to appear less often when I work only with battery full power, but is still there.
I updated the bios 2-10 and updated display driver too.
    But nothing changes.
Question: is this battery problem screen problem, bios issue...
Thanks for the tips, I don't know what to do, and it is impossible to work now with this computer.
someone has an idea of what I need to do?

    Thank you

    Hi frakk,.

I think that there is a problem with the FL inverter connector pins. Take your distributor to service, they can fix.

  • Satellite 1800-400 ME upgrade to XP Pro?

All successful one satisfactory to a Satellite 1800 400 upgrade or similar (384 MB of RAM, 20 GB HD, 800 MHz Celeron) of Win ME?

Would prefer to upgrade to XP Pro, but pure install 2nd choice.

If I have the HD format for a clean install, an updated XP version would recognize the recovery CD Toshiba a legitimate copy of the ME - I've heard that there may be problems?

I have the intention to upgrade the BIOS and collect all the drivers available for this model proposed by Toshiba for XP, but will there still be problems with all the material?

Toshiba drivers must be loaded in a special order, and that is during or after installing XP?

XP is likely to be faster or more slow/about the same thing as ME, with above hardware specifications?

All advice welcome, because I have not upgraded the OS on a laptop before, and the potential problems seem more important than with desktop computers.

    Hello

I put t not see why Windows XP Home edition should not be working on your device correctly. On this forum I have read many topics where users present on Windows XP Home edition on the old models as yours.

Please see the download page for Toshiba under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp and you will find drivers for Windows XP Home edition.

After installing WXP install display and sound driver first. Then install other drivers of material. The next step is installation of Toshiba stuff:
    Common modules
    Controls
    Energy-saving
    Public services.

It is important to install common modules like the first.

I also believe that you can use the 60 GB HARD drive for this oldie.

Please don't be crazy about me, but how you want to install the operating system if you don't want to buy the CD of facilities? If someone give you something for free or what. You can try to order the original recovery media, but in my opinion, it is not in stock, or you can buy the CD of original Microsoft facilities. If you check eBay you can find a used one and have it for little money.
