Satellite 1800-911: error #1 - C2502 CD/DVD drive IDE

PC: satellite 1800-911 BIOS V.2.1.

I try to fix the problem with my DVD/CD COMBO drive (all of a sudden do not read any kind of CD).
I tried to update the firmware from 1313 to... I don't remember. I get now, before XP pro SP2 start, the "IDE #1 ERROR" message and the operating system do not recognize any DVD/CD.

BIOS recognize, ligth blinks and you can use the eject button. When XP is from that of the ligth is disabled and the eject button do not work.

Now, if I try to go back to firmware 1313 (from boot floppy BACK) I get an error TYPE ROM INCORRECT.
Can I fix this?

> BIOS recognizes, the light will blink and you can use the eject button
That means nothing!

If the IDE 1 error message # appears it means that the BIOS does not recognize the device (CD/DVD drive) that is connected to the IDE 1 controller.

I think that you used just a bad firmware and flashed settings preinstalled with the wrong firmware!
Now the master\slave\c-salt settings have been changed and the BIOS cannot access to ODD.

I don t know where did you get the firmware, but in my opinion this firmware is certainly false and not supported!

I found this drive here on the Toshiba page but the firmware is missing

    Hello

Seems that the laptop can not find the bootable source.
This means that the HARD drive is malfunctioning or the boot sector is defective.

By the way; have you tried to change the boot order in the BIOS?

  • Satellite 1800-911 too dark screen brightness

I have a Satellite 1800-911 that works correctly, except that the screen is too dark, you can barely see.
I tried 3 screens and 3 inverters that work correctly in a 1800-354, without result. I also changed the cable from the motherboard to the screen without success.

There seems to be no control that affect brightness: I tried the power saver routines: no difference.

When I connect to an external monitor, the image is perfect.
The laptop is a new installation of Windows ME linking the restore CD.

    Hello

make combinations of already tried the "FN" keys on your keyboard to make you brighter screen? If not already so I suggest you perhaps it helps.
If not, I guess you have a problem on the motherboard.

    Hello Nikola

I guess that the Windows XP SP2 update is responsible for this problem.
Well, in this case you must update the Power Saver utility.
What you can try on the Toshiba site.
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Perhaps it is also important to update the BIOS.
Please check if your device has the latest BIOS version.
Here you can find the BIOS.

    Hello

All connectors/ports sata may not look the same but will serve as the data transfers. The Sata ports are different for different devices, for example the odd and HDD.

You can see the attached picture in the spoilers below.

    This a port hard drive

I hope you get now why the odd port and the port of hard drive are different.

  • Satellite 1800-400, ERROR! F3D failed

Someone can help me troubleshoot above?
First of all what does this mean?
I had a very small Satellite 1800-400 with me running. I was convinced that it was full of viruses so wanted to start all over again with the recovery disk. All I got was this error.
In addition, it is said software being installed, please wait and a 0-100% bar. (nothing happens)
Being a novice surf autour, I picked up a new BIOS @ this site. After the install was not successful so I used the command chgbiosa on the a:\, this gave me a command prompt to enter the biosfile in and I have upgraded to version 2.2 (I really thought he could help silly)
Retry the recovery disk didn't give no solution so I'm really looking forward to all the solutions to this disaster.

    Hi sms,.

Sounds strange! Is the recovery CD in good condition? Is this perhaps a scratch?

    Goodbye Tom

  • Satellite Pro A120 - cannot boot from CD/DVD drive

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 of friends, he was running very slow so I said I'd do the usual for him.
Back up all his documents, and then reinstall windows. not so easy!

First of all, try to boot from the CD so I can boot into Ubuntu or reinstall windows.
Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.

From time to time I get an error saying + "Media test failure - check cable" + or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject.
I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Able to boot Ubuntu from a USB key.
Try to copy its documents on my external drive but really copying REALLY slow (like 1 MB/s) and kept getting IO errors on some files.
I can't run diagnostic software for HARD drive that I can not boot from the CD (could get the Ultimate Boot CD on a USB but if anyone thinks it would help?).

In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR).
    This means a failing drive?
What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the portable CD player with a CD of work of another computer and windows recognize today this new CD player at all!

By putting a bootable CD in this new CD player, it always starts from the HARD drive (do not recognize CD player in all).
The BIOS is a bit unnecessary and does not show the detected disks...

Also, boot Ubuntu from a USB key, with the original CD player, he reads real CD and DVD copied of all zeros are considered blank discs and replace the CD drive with a known working in Ubuntu means its not recognized at all (if this isn't windows driver problems).

When I started messing around with it I remember windows say the time had been reset, so I set the time properly, then he did the same thing again I think. A flat CMOS battery could not be responsible for this?

Is the motherboard and specifically the IDE controller or a broken ports, or am I doing something stupid? I'm tempted to just install Ubuntu by USB and tell him not to bother with CD more ;^)

Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated!

    Thank you
    Dan Gent

    > Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.
You see the CD/DVD drive in BIOS? I mean all the details like the name WEIRD etc.
If this isn't the case, then it means that your CD/DVD drive is not recognized by the BIOS due to a hardware problem.

If you can see the STRANGE in the BIOS but are still not able to boot from any disk, then I suppose that the CD/DVD drive cannot read the disk for different reasons.
One of the reasons could be a defective or damage the laser lens

    > Every so often, I would get an error saying "Media test failure - check cable" or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject. I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Yes, this error means that your laptop tried to boot from LAN

    > In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR). This means a failing drive?

As I said above, it would be possible that the reader s laser lens malfunctions and, therefore, the ODD can't handle the media. It seems that the laser lens can not calibrate properly and can not move in the correct position. This question is not repairable and the drive needs to be replaced.

    > What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the CD drive with a CD of work of another laptop and windows don't recognize this new CD player at all!

The fact is that not all CD/DVD drives are compatible due to different master/slave/C-salt settings. You must use the supported players! In most cases, you can find a list in your user manual what CD/DVD readers are compatible.

  • Satellite Pro 4260: How to remove the DVD drive?

I have a 4260 Pro Satellite and it seems that the DVD drive is broken and I want to replace it. I can't figure out how to remove the old.
Does anyone know how? Is there a manual with available how?

    Thank you

    Hello

This notebook is not know for me but has checked some sites on the net and it seems that the top cover must be removed.
Then lift the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive to disconnect PJ700 on the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM of PJ15 card on the system board.
Remove the two screws that fix the Board Connector CD-ROM/DVD-ROM.
Separate the brace connector connector Office CD-ROM/DVD-ROM and CD-ROM/DVD-ROM CD/DVD-ROM drive

Well, I think that it of not easy for a person without experience.
So if you n t know how to do and you have without much experience you should ask someone how knows what to do ;)

  • How to format Satellite A60 302 without using the CD/DVD drive

    Hello

I have a laptop SATELLITE A60-302, and I had a problem with cd player. I want to format the computer (WIN XP) and I wanned to ask if I can format the computer not by the cd player but another way as disk on key or something...

    Thanks :)

    Hello
Your best bet might be trying to use an external CD/DVD drive to install Windows XP (must confirm that your laptop can boot from USB CD/DVD). I would not recommend it otherwise because they are pretty complicated and you will encounter other issues.

  • Seeing the drive DVD Satellite M50 does not turn OFF, CD/DVD drive don't read do not

    Hello

I have a Satellite M50 - mx5 with a carpet * a DVD player. When I insert the CD or DVD, the player starts, turns the CD autour (the indicator light flashes)... but a few seconds later, the drive stops turning, but the DVD drive light is on.

Windows also think that the DVD drive is empty.
I also tried to boot Windows from the CD when the computer starts upward, but without success either.

Ideas for what is wrong? Is my DVD drive broken?

    Thank you
    Eli

    Hello

Sorry to said but in my opinion, drive is dead and that the replacement allows the reader features can save.

But be aware that not every drive is supported and can be used with the laptop!
Take a look in the user manual. Sometimes the compatible players are listed.
And it s useful to know that all parts can be ordered from the ASP in your country.

    have a nice weekend ;)

  • Can satellite A100-097 - I replace the cd - dvd drive

    Hello

The cd-burner in my Satellite A100-097 drive begins to age, burns can sometimes fail, sometimes cannot even read simple audio cds.

Can someone tell me if I can replace it with a new and where to find it, finally?

    Thank you
    Andrea

    Hello

Yes, you can replace the CD/DVD drive with a new one.
But be aware that not all of the sides are compatible due to different master/slave/c-salt settings

Manual of use you should find some details about compatible readers and supported
    Check it out
If you have no user manual then go to the Toshiba European page to download.

In addition, you can buy a player of an ASP supported in your country
The guys would be able to order it at Toshiba if necessary.
