Satellite 1800-911 too dark screen brightness

I have a Satellite 1800-911 that works correctly, except that the screen is too dark, you can barely see.
I tried 3 screens and 3 inverters that work correctly in a 1800-354, without result. I also changed the cable from the motherboard to the screen without success.

There seems to be no control that affect brightness: I tried the power saver routines: no difference.

When I connect to an external monitor, the image is perfect.
The laptop is a new installation of Windows ME linking the restore CD.

Hello

make combinations of already tried the "FN" keys on your keyboard to make you brighter screen? If not already so I suggest you perhaps it helps.
If not, I guess you have a problem on the motherboard.

Welcome them

But now, after the installation of Windows XP Professional SP2, I have a big problem. When I put in stand by mode cell phone it's going to sleep and it's great. But the problem is when I would go my work since the mode ensures that is on the HARD drive on the laptop, but the screen is always black and I have to reboot the system. Hello Nikola

I guess that the Windows XP SP2 update is responsible for this problem.
Well, in this case you must update the Power Saver utility.
What you can try on the Toshiba site.
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Perhaps it is also important to update the BIOS.
Please check if your device has the latest BIOS version.
Here you can find the BIOS.

  • Satellite 1800-911: error #1 - C2502 CD/DVD drive IDE

    PC: satellite 1800-911 BIOS V.2.1.

I try to fix the problem with my DVD/CD COMBO drive (all of a sudden do not read any kind of CD).
I tried to update the firmware from 1313 to... I don't remember. I get now, before XP pro SP2 start, the "IDE #1 ERROR" message and the operating system do not recognize any DVD/CD.

BIOS recognize, ligth blinks and you can use the eject button. When XP is from that of the ligth is disabled and the eject button do not work.

Now, if I try to go back to firmware 1313 (from boot floppy BACK) I get an error TYPE ROM INCORRECT.
    Can I fix this?

    > BIOS recognizes, the light will blink and you can use the eject button
    That means nothing!

If the IDE 1 error message # appears it means that the BIOS does not recognize the device (CD/DVD drive) that is connected to the IDE 1 controller.

I think that you used just a bad firmware and flashed settings preinstalled with the wrong firmware!
Now the master\slave\c-salt settings have been changed and the BIOS cannot access to ODD.

I don t know where did you get the firmware, but in my opinion this firmware is certainly false and not supported!

I found this drive here on the Toshiba page but the firmware is missing

    Hello

I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my toshiba A100 (psaa9) machine and I cannot change the screen brightness more.

It's always a maximum brightness. FN key doesn't work, and neigther Control Panel I can change the nvidia manually through the brightness. NVIDIA driver is 7.15.11.7967, which is installed automatically with windows.

I have read suggestions on value-added package to install, but there is no package like that for my model.

How can I solve my problem?
    Thank you

    Hello

You must install VAP and Support of Flash Card Utility for the FN keys works!
Installation of VFR will not help you if you should not install Flash memory card Support utility.

As far as I know, these two tools are not phone specific, so you can choose the VAP and the published Flash card for example utility for Satellite L500!

I did it on my laptop and it worked fine!

  • Satellite L670 - looking on the screen BRIGHTNESS and volume display

Hello. I have a Satellite L670 and I m looking for the on-screen display of the volume and BRIGHTNESS.

It is the first of my laptop which seems to offer not to display these key elements and it is very sinuous to find the standard 3 + 4 for the volume keys and F6 + F7 for brightness, especially in an environment dark.

Before this Toishiba had a few DELL Latitude and Inspiron Laptops and my wife uses a Samsung and had all this laptop-screen computers or the possibility of opening the display of the volume on fn + arrow keys.

Please excuse my English. Maybe someone can understand my problem anyway ;-)

    CU, Sascha

    Hello

What you want to say no to the display screen?

Different laptops have different combination of FN keys. On Toshiba laptops, you can change the display by pressing FN + F6/F7 and on other laptops, you have other F - keys for this. There is no standard for these FN keys.

Usually, if you press the FN key only you should see at the top of the screen flash cards. You see them?

  • Satellite P10-304: very dark screen with negative colors

    I have a SP10-304.
One day I swithched turn it on and the LCD display seems negative like a photographic negative.
It is very dark, but the colors are there just upside? I connected to an external monitor to the rear exit and it worked well.

The backlight of the screen seems to be bright enough so I guess that it may need a replacement LCD screen.

    If anyone can help...

    Concerning
    Paul

    Hello

If you are a lucky man, you won't need to replace the LCD view screen but only the inverter FL. The screen is more expensive laptop parts and it would be very unfortunate if the LCD would malfunction.

To me, it sounds like a fault of FL-inverter and this part is not very expensive.
I guess to contact the technician to change this part if you have no experience.

  • Satellite L300 - after restarting the screen brightness is the highest level once again

    Hello!

    I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-215.

Just installed Windows XP I went to keen on Vista. In any case I ve downloaded all the XP drivers on the Toshiba site. Everything works perfectly except the brightness level.

When I start my laptop to the top of the screen is at its maximum brightness that I then use the function hotkey special "FN and f6" to turn down the brightness of the screen. However once I have disable my laptop then restart it, the brightness goes back to the maximum level again...
Any ideas how I could prevent the brightness that goes back to max?

I read that it s a particular order I should install the utilities and drivers from the Toshiba website for windows XP?
The ideas and help in what order?

    See you soon

    Hello

In your case, I'd install the Toshiba Power Saver. This Toshiba tool is really great because set you the brightness of the screen for different profiles (full power, normal, etc.) and there you can adjust the brightness of the screen. In addition, you can change the method of cooling, the performance of the processor and to this day.
    Check it!

You can download the energy on the Toshiba page saver. I also have a Satellite L300 with Windows XP and everything works perfectly.

Here's the order of installation for Toshiba tools, they control the FN keys, etc. :
    Toshiba Common modules
    TOSHIBA Hotkey Utiliy
Utility Toshiba Touchpad on / off
    Toshiba Utilities
    TOSHIBA Power Saver
    Toshiba Assist
    Toshiba controls

    Good bye

  • My Satellite 1800-911 will not restart

    Hello

I was recently downloading an update for Realplayer when it crashed.
At startup, the HARD drive light flashes like its trying to access... but the operating system (Windows XP Pro) is not initialized.
All I get is the welcome message from Toshiba... in red text... nothing... blank screen.

Even if I try to start mode without failure or any other means of display Windows Advanced Option I get nothing.

I can get to the confirmation of the cmd and I looked and saw that my data and documents are all still there in the folder my documents, as well as the 'System' and 'System32' but I can't see the i386 folder...

I tried commands like "chkdsk" but they are not recognized as I get the message "bad command or file name".

An update of the BIOS would help me...

... Other ideas will be greatly appreciated...
    Thank you
    Steve37

Hmmm. really stupid Situation. As far as I know, the BIOS update has nothing to do with this problem and it will not help at all. I don't really know what you can try.

First and foremost, you must remove the HARD drive and connect it to another PC as another external and back up all your important data. If you have time please check this page
    http://www.webtree.ca/WindowsXP/repair_xp.htm#how%20To%20Determine%20If%20XP%20Was % 20Activated

After a few tips, you can try to repair the preinstalled OS. If nothing helps, I'm afraid, you have to install the new operating system.

  • Satellite 1800: Watch the Sun - how to change the contrast

Hi, satellite 1800 has a dark screen that I can't solve. The images are very visible. The amount of the fine to a screen outside it is a button contrast everywhere?

    Hello

You can change the brightness of the screen with the FN + F6 and FN + F7 key combination.
This is not possible, so I guess there must be something wrong with the hardware (FL inverter)
Usually if this part is the default display is not clear. In this case, you must contact the ASP in your country.

  • Satellite 1800-921-Maximum extension

I have a 1800-921 Satellite running Windows XP. It starts and works fine, but as soon as I put the antivirus software on it slows down to a crawl. I want to improve its performance, but have the recommended Maximum 512 MB system memory. Can I wear this in any way to make the laptop run faster?

The hard drive has been defragmented and 8 of it is 20 GB free.

Is there anything else I can do?

It will be interesting to know what antivirus you have installed on your machine.
In my opinion the best anti-virus is AVIRA antivir. He doesn't need a lot of resources and works perfectly on Windows XP Home edition.

    Back to your question.
I know for sure that the Satellite 1800-911 can be upgraded up to 1 GB of RAM, so I think that your Satellite can be upgraded to 1 GB.

  • Portege R500-10J: not possible to watch movies - colors screen too dark

    Hello!

I recently bought a Portege R500-10J and have a pretty bad problem - I can not watch every movie (DVD or *.avi or anyone else) here. All media are invisible on the screen. Its too dark and some colors are recorded.

I have no problem with all office applications, or browsing the internet, the colors are perfect for screen 12.1 inch, but using any application media is almost impossible.

Didn't help not change any settings. The colors are extremely poor. I have not install anything but this was while the computer is first.

Anyone know - is it a hardware problem (video card) or software (drivers, codecs, sth else), or it is a normal phenomenon?

Hope it can be fixed. This laptop is supposed to be used for watching movies on a trip...

To be honest, it is not easy to understand your problem. I guess you use battery power while traveling. In this case, intelligence tool will probably switch to energy saving mode. In this case, the display brightness will increase at a lower level.

You can set it to the highest level by using the FN + F7 key combination. Be sure that the screen is in the right direction (90 degrees from your eyes).

  • Very dark screen of the Satellite L300-1FJ

    Hello

I have a problem with LCD display on my Satellite L300-1FJ.
It is very dark. At startup, I hardly see what is on the screen.

I tried to increase the brightness, but it doesn't seem to work.

    Hello

You mean you cannot increase the screen brightness by pressing FN + F7?

Well, I think that the FL inverter is faulty.

If the FL inverter starts to malfunction so everything on the screen will appear like behind a thick fog.
In most cases, the FL inverter needs to be replaced.

So contact the ASP technician in your country and ask for help!

    Good bye

  • Satellite 1800-814: screen sometimes become black (recovered by pressing the cover)

In recent months, my Satellite 1800-814 screen suddenly goes black. Works with Windows XP SP2.
Screen can be reactivated by pressing the cover (just above the power of the button on / off) a few times (not too long otherwise it will sleep of course).
However, it makes me nervous about the quality of the portable computer, everyone has experienced this before, know how to solve this problem permanently?
