Satellite 1800-921-Maximum extension

I have a 1800-921 Satellite running Windows XP. It starts and works fine, but as soon as I put the antivirus software on it slows down to a crawl. I want to improve its performance, but have the recommended Maximum 512 MB system memory. Can I wear this in any way to make the laptop run faster?

The hard drive has been defragmented and 8 of it is 20 GB free.

Is there anything else I can do?

It will be interesting to know what antivirus you have installed on your machine.
In my opinion the best anti-virus is AVIRA antivir. He doesn't need a lot of resources and works perfectly on Windows XP Home edition.

Back to your question.
I know for sure that the Satellite 1800-911 can be upgraded up to 1 GB of RAM, so I think that your Satellite can be upgraded to 1 GB.

    Hello

  • Satellite 1800-921: antenna integrated behind the screen?

Can someone tell me if the Satellite 1800-921 has an antenna behind the screen?
    Thank you
    Peter

I guess you mean a kind of antenna? As far as I know behind the screen is placed antenna WLAN for supported models with WLAN connectivity.

I wasn't able to find info on Satellite 1800-921, but if the unit is supplied without WIFI I guess that there is no WLAN antenna behind the screen. By the way: I believe that the Satellite 1800 series is delivered without a WLAN option.

    Hello

Seems that the laptop can not find the bootable source.
This means that the HARD drive is malfunctioning or the boot sector is defective.

By the way; have you tried to change the boot order in the BIOS?

I am trying to find the memory upgrade for my Satellite 1800-921 PIII 1.1 GHz... Part number: PS183E-00HTT-EN.
The vehicle is currently a Nanya 256 MB SDR 133 Mhz - CL3 and I undestand it can be upgraded with an additional 256 MB card.
The only problem is that I can't find a compatible! Any ideas what's need & where I couldn't leave?

    The compatible module is PC100 256 MB with PA3069U - 1 M 25 part number.

  • Satellite 1800-921 material updates

    Hello

My daughter received a Satellite 1800-921, but it needs to be updated.

I need to allow him to become compatible wireless and also update the RAM.

In addition, they are easy to do?

    Thank you

The update of the RAM is possible. You can update for max max 1024 MB and these modules can be used:
    PC100 256 MB (PA3069U - 1 M 25)
    PC100 128 MB (PA3005U)
    PC100 64 MB (PA3004U)

The situation with the WiFi network is a little different. The laptop does not support any card of minPCI of WLan and the internal upgrade isn't possible.
But you can use a USB WiFi key or a PCMCIA Wlan card.

  • What spec RAM required for Satellite 1800-921?

If anyone can help with suggestions to increase my RAM. Crucial say its obsolete!

    Hello

The modules are obsolete? I put t believe that!
Satellite 1800-921 simply uses modules SODIMM 144 pin PC100 and you should check out some offers from online dealers.
I m you will find something interesting!

Oh the laptop supports max 512 MB and that's why you can use modules of 2 x 256 MB max.

  • On the Satellite 1800-921 black screen problem

    Hello
My satellite 1800-921 has started to give me a black screen after I turn it on. It loads well, go to the desktop and then the screen turns white and I can't make it respond. We can just distinguish the dialogs on the screen so I don't know if it is a screen problem or things I see on the screen are just ghosts...
    It's a bit worrying!
Does anyone else have this problem? So far, it seems to happen when I turn it on. Usually, I have to turn it off and reboot to get it back and then it works very well.
    Thank you
    Nancy :)

    Hello

to the old series, it may be that the FL inverter is broken or damaged the tupe of backlight. In both cases, you can see the screen but without backlight!

To differi if it is a hard - or software error, you should start the laptop and ESC immediately to enter the BIOS. Then the machine must be running half an hour in the BIOS. When the rupture occurred it is quite sure that some hardware is broken. Otherwise, it is a software based and a restore with recovery CD Toshiba should solve the problem!

    Goodbye, TOK

  • Battery not recognized or carried by Satellite 1800-921

    Hello

My S1800-921 not recognize battery at all or load it. Any lights in the small LED on the battery. I charged the battery manually and it gives 13.5 Volts is very healthy. In addition, the same battery works beautifully on another laptop more old.

If the battery is OK without a doubt. I opened the laptop and tested it with a multimeter. I found that 13.5 volts are present on the multiple the card connector from the battery to the motherboard. The laptop runs normally with alternating current.

Another strange thing is the following:
If I monitor the status of the battery on the screen and press the hard battery it shows 3% charge on the battery for about 1/4 of a second then replaced by "battery does not exist.

    What is your opinion?
Is it a hardware fault or software?
    Everyone knows something similar?
It is hopeless, or can do something about it?

    Thank you

    Hello

From your description, I suspect a faulty connector or damaged when the battery plugs into the laptop. Look closely at link plate to make sure that they are not bent or damaged.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite 1800-921: how to reset a messed machine?

    Hello
I made the stupid mistake of deleting files and programs on my laptop, trying to create more space (I finally got an external hard drive), but I messed up my machine now.
I tried to reinstall the Toshiba programs using the tools & utilities cd but I have programs. For example when I try to reinstall WinDVD program I get the error message-

' C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe. C:\WINDOWS\system32\autoexec. NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS or Microdoft Windows applications.' and then a

"Serious error" message, then a message saying

    "It's not a qualified Toshiba Machine" !

What have I done? I tried "System Restore", but there is no system restore point on my computer that I can come back.
Can someone tell me how I can clear my computer and start over? I think that this will be the only way.

Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thank you
    Nikki

    Dear Nikki

Who knows what that you remove your laptop and I really believe that the best solution is to preinstall once again using recovery media. On this way the unit will have adjustments to plant again and runs stabile again. If you n t have much experience with the PC it is not easy to set up this new well.

If you decide to do this, please, back up all your important data, because the HARD drive will be formatted before the beginning of the procedure of the facilities. If you have two partitions, you can install the OS on a first using the installation in expert mode. If you need more help please write again.

Just one thing: you can try to visit the site of manufacturer of WinDVD and try to install a demo version if it is available to see if this can be properly installed.

    Hello

I don t think that a disk cleanup would solve this problem. You can try to clean the lens but I m with skepticism.
If you want to buy a car, please be careful. You need a compatible player and supported.
    Please see this page:

Some readers are set to CSEL, master or slave. It is very important that you buy a disk with the right settings.

    Hi Heiko

AFAIK there is no docking station for this model of laptop. You can use the external USB docking station, but your camera has just USB 1.1 and I believe that it is simply too slow.

  • Re: upgrade RAM satellite 1800-700

I would spend my Satellite 1800-700 memory 1024 RAM. My operating system is Windows XP. I currently have 512 of RAM and BIOS 2.20 Trad.
However, it would allow me to install 2 x 512 RAM.

    Please can someone help?

    Thank you kindly.
    Lee

    Hello Lee

According to specification of laptop it can handle with 512 MB RAM max, if you already have maximum RAM.

  • Satellite A100-626 - maximum memory supported?

    Hello

I have a Satellite A100-626 with 2 GB of RAM.

As indicated in the record of this model:
    standard: 1 024 (512 + 512) MB
    maximum extension: 4 096 MB
    technology: DDR2 RAM (533 MHz)
    expansion module sizes: 256, 512, 1 024 MB

It is said that it can go up to 4 GB, but only shows module sizes up to 1 Gb. (maybe 2 GB modules did not exist at the time).
Anyone know or tested if it is possible to install 2 2 GB modules or 1 module 4 GB to achieve the maximum of 4 GB extension?
Also, it supports up to 800 MHz of frequency? If not, what is the maximum?
And finally, DDR3 works on this model?

Thanks in advance for the answers.

    Hello

I found this Toshiba product page:
    [Satellite A100-626 | http://pt.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=PT&DISC_MODEL=0 & ACTION = PRINT_WITH_BACK & BV_UseBVCookie = Yes & PRODUCT _ID = 119571]

It s a Portuguese Toshiba page because I believe that this model of laptop is designed for the Portuguese market.
You will find information that it of possible to upgrade the RAM to 4 GB (2 x 2 GB RAM).

But note; the 32-bit operating system will not be able to use the full 4 GB of RAM.
Just the 6 bit OS can use and recognize all of the 4 GB

    > Also, is it supports up to 800 MHz of frequency?
It depends on the chipset. If the chipset allows that the then the memory at 800 Mhz would go to 800 Mhz otherwise they would be pointing down.

    > And finally, DDR3 works on this model?
No, as much as I know just the DDR2 modules are supprted.

  • Satellite 1800-314: upgrade of memory and CPU

    Hello everyone,

I'm interested in upgrading my old satellite 1800-314.
Does anyone know the upgrade of the maximum for this machine processor?
It does support only pc100 or pc133 memory modules?

My idea is to upgrade from the origin to a Celeron 1.4 or even a Pentium III Coppermine Celeron 1.1 / Tualatin processor and add more 256 MB machine.

    Thanks in advance,

    André

    Hello Andrew

Upgrading the CPU is not possible. The processors used in laptops are connected to the motherboard using a process called TCP (tape carrier package). It is a method of permanent connection and is used in the interest of miniaturization and heat dissipation.

    Expansion memory is not a problem. You can use PC100 256 MB (PA3069U - 1 M 25) memory module.

    Good bye
