    Wow. It's really an oldie!

To be honest, I don't think that someone here in the forum knows exactly what readers are compatible with this laptop.
"I think that this series is older than some users here in the forum). Just kidding ;)

I think you last resort might be the local ASP. Maybe they have a few old documents and Satellite 220CS parts lists.

  • Satellite 220cs - need driver USB

The USB port on my Satellite 220cs (Win 95) does not work. When I go into the control panel-system-hardware device manager, it shows USB but said that no driver is loaded.

Windows 95 and Satellite 220cs of wow. You love oldies ;) Am I wrong?

It s long since Win95, I had to google about USB and Win95 capabilities and found this article Ms knowledge base:
Support Windows 95 OSR2.x for external USB hubs
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/q247969/

According to MS, Windows 95 was a first OS which has provided support to basic USB with different limits.
It seems that this limitation was resolved in Win 98 and Win98SE edition.
MS recommend updating the Win95 on Win98SE using the USB environment.

I also found this interesting site:
    http://www.usbman.com/Win95%20USB%20Guide.htm

There is a small instruction how to activate USB on Win95.

Bye and good luck with your oldies

the drivers of this laptop are in the download section of pilot like the other. But you have to look under "Archives", because 220 is an old model. It's the same thing with the user manual.

  • Satellite A50: DVD player does not read DVD only CD

On my Satellite A50 DVD drive can only read CDs now but not DVD. So I'm not able to use the recovery disc.
My BIOS is up to date, I think.

    Hello

Well, what can I say? For me, this looks like a disk failure.
Maybe the lens can not calibrate properly and that's why the drive is able to read the CD.
I don't think that the replacement of disc will help you :(

    Hello
Can anyone add to the list of * of compatible DVD burners for Satellite A40-SP151 *.

  • Good for Satellite M40 DVD DVD player model

Can someone tell me what model of drive of DVD the Satellite M40 (PSM40A) was supposed to come with?
According to Windows (XP Pro), mine was initially a carpet * a UJ831S, the version of firmware 1.00. Due to problems with this drive, it was replaced under warranty by Toshiba.

According to the label, the new disc is a carpet * a UJ840, with annotation HW 1.10 FW 1.40, which I assume the hardware and firmware versions respectively. Problem is that this drive is reports still on Windows as a UJ831S, a firmware version 1.40 now.

I am sure that Toshiba write their own firmware for these drives and so have control over what is reported for Windows. I suspect that this model of M40 should never take a UJ840 and so it's to be deliberately badly reported to Windows as a UJ831S. I never saw the label on the original disc and have therefore no ideae if it was actually a UJ831S.

The reason why I'm curious is that I always have problems playing some audio CD original with this player and think that it could be a problem of hardware compatibility. It is certainly not a question of protection of the CD, and the CD set fine on other laptops I tried them, with the exception of Toshibas with Mat * one or recorders of DVD Teac.
Toshiba say that nothing can do more.

I must point out that this laptop was purchased in New Zealand and can be specific to the Australasian market. I write here because the New Zealand from Toshiba web site (actually ends up on the Austraian site) does not appear to have a forum.

    Thank you
    Malc

    Hello

I studied a bit in the internet on the disc that came with this unit but I can't find useful information about the name of the drive and which drive was delivered with this device, but I guess it was a UJ831S.
However, I suggest that the new drive is UJ840, but the Windows operating system recognizes this disk as a UJ831S because of the firmware.

I found this topic on the identification of bad player:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=10034&start=15

In this case, the drive was out of life, and he was replaced by another having the same properties.
I think that he is even on your laptop.

  • Satellite M - DVD/CD ROM missing in my device manager

My computer for some reason unknown to me, recognize or load content on any DVD or CD that I put in my combo drive. The disc turns and acts like it is loading, but nothing happens. I want to switch from XP to Vista. whether a disk of music or a dvd movie disc, it always does the same thing. I have a satellite M45-S2652. I tried the registration procedure and nothing has changed. Before that, when I clicked in my device manager and everything was ok, he read "(MAT *** un DVD) RAM UJ - 831 S."

I tried to use my windows recovery disk, but the computer does not recognize it. I tried the restore later, when I clicked in my device manager, under DVD ROM, I saw a bunch of script gibberish with a yellow exclamation point, but the same thing was happening. Y at - it someone who had that same kind of experience and solved. Will you please help me to solve my problem. I want to upgrade to Vista.

    Thank you.

Try to remove the CD/DVD filters in the registry.
When the associated CD/DVD (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), the software is installed, they install filters in the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.

    (1) run Regedit (start-> Run-> Regedit)
    2) navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    (3) in the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key and delete the key "LowerFilters".
    (4) restart.

If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).

This utility can remove the filters for you:
    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/content/support/bulletins/su2065061/RmvFltrs.exe

If it still does not respond, you may need to replace the DVD drive

  • Satellite R20-DVD recorder (necessary firmware) problem

    Hello
in my Toshiba Satellite R20 (Tablet) recorder DVD (Pioneer) was accidentally flashed with the incorrect firmware by the previous user (I work in the company and this tablet came to me already used one).
Now when power on/off, ERROR of CD-ROM appears for a while, then window starts normally on HARD drive. In Windows, I do not see the optical drive - first I have to suspend the system, and then, after waking up, the DVD drive is recognized and installed but only works in PIO mode. I have seen that the displayed model number is incorrect (DVR - K16 and should be DVR-K16TBR because it is desrcibed the disk).
Is it possible to get the firmware original and reflash the drive by myself?

    Kind regards

    T. Trojan

    Hello

Drive, you can reflash t by yourself, this can only an ASP (authorized service provider), but I don't know, if this possible of m.

The best way is to contact an ASP and ask them. Here you can find one:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported downloads & => find an ASP.

In the worst cases, the disc must be replaced.

Tell me what happened, I interested in m.

    Good bye

  • Why not start 4090XCDT Satellite with DVD-R/W drive?

    Hello
I fear I know the answer, but confirmation would be very useful for me!
Bought a Satellite 4090XCDT opportunity where the former owner has replaced the original CD-ROM with a 2004 Quanta Storage SDW-042 DVD - RW.
Seems that it was not so smart I have thougth - computer laptop won't boot from CD (BIOS is set to CD-floppy-HDD, of course). So I can't install any system Windows on it. If I insert Windows 2000 boot disks, for example, it reads all the four of them and then said "no CD-ROM not found", probably because no DVD - RW driver is available on the Win2k installation media.

Is it possible the BIOS since the 1999 (?) Satellite won't be able to boot from the DVD player in 2004 even though the previous owner _had_ installed a Windows 98 that was able to read - but not boot - DVD player? Can I solve the problem to downgrade the drive from DVD - RW to a CD-ROM, the Teac DC-224th (which I believe was the original) or a similar one?

    TIA

Is it possible that the BIOS does not recognize the new CD/DVD drive because of the bad settgins of master/slave/c-salt.
You should know that not all CD/DVD players are compatible.

But it could also be a failure of CD/DVD drive and the BIOS does not therefore see the STRANGE news.

  • Cannot install Windows 8 on Satellite L750 - CPU compatibility problem

Why can I not install Windows 8 Preview of consumption on my Toshiba Satellite L750-22 x?
I get an error of processor compatibility.

    Intel i3 M380 2.53 GHz

    Hello

The Internet provides some details on this error message.
It seems that to install Win 8 CP the CPU must support PAE/NX/SSE2 features

Never execute Bit ([NX bit | http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NX_bit]) allows the marking of memory pages as non-executable.
Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2) is an earlier standard that is supported by Intel and AMD CPU. This is why all processors that support NX would also support SSE2 too.

Usually, this allows the XD (for Intel processors) or NX (for AMD) in the BIOS should disable this error message.
But if it is not available in the BIOS, then either the CPU is not supported this feature or the BIOS does not support this option.

According to the page Intel Ark Intel Core i3 - 380 M supports the Execute Disable Bit feature. So maybe the BIOS does not support this feature
    http://Ark.Intel.com/products/50178/Intel-Core-i3-380M-processor-

It seems that you have to wait for the new BIOS
