Satellite 2450-201: extremely slow startup
MY LAPTOP HAS A REALLY ANNOYING PROBLEM BEFORE IT TOOK FOREVER, YOUR TALKING ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO START AFTER HAVING BEEN TURNED OFF FOR ABOUT 5 HOURS + SO I REFORMATTED MY HARD DRIVE AND STILL THE PROBLEM IS PRODUCT SO IM GUESSING ITS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE MATERIAL INSIDE OF THE LAPTOP AS THE DISK HARD WORKS SLOWLY , I CAN HEAR IT AND SA AS CHA CHA CHA CHA U KNOW BUT REALLY SLOW UNLIKE NOISE MAKES WHEN I LOGED IN AND THE APP OPEN WHERE IT WORKS CONTINUOUSLY WHILE I CAN TELL BY THE NOISE ONCE AFTER I LOG IN ITS REALLY FAST AND FINE.
JUST THE BOOT.
Really sounds like something wrong with the HARD drive.
Several weeks during playback on my laptop, I heard a strange noise.
It failed for me to send it back, but I thought that it s a cooling module.
But then my phone started very slow and after several days the BIOS was not able to recognize the HARD drive! It was a simply a head crash.
I was a lucky man because I saved all my important files on the other computer.
You must take care, perhaps even you will arrive
I HAVE A SATELLITE 2450-201 AND I RUN ON WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION, I DID A REGISTRY CLEANER EVERYBODYS USERNAME USING REGISTRY FIX 5.5
I HAVE DEFRAGED MY PC AND ALSO OPTIMIZED MY MSCONFIG STARTUP ITEMS AND EVEN THE BIOS UPDATE.
THE RESULT IS EXTREMELY FASTER WHEN I CONNECT AND ACTUALLY UNDER WINDOWS BUT THE SAME OLD VERY SLOW STOP AND START TO WHAT I DO.
THE WINDOWS BAR GOING ALONG AT LEAST 15 - 20 TIMES TO HELP START!
Maybe you've connected to some external devices to slow down the start-up procedure. You can also try to disable all the hardware components you n t need (modem. IrDA). Also check out which device is defined in a first start time (I hope that the HARD drive).
For slow closing is responsible only running processes that should be forced disconnected. It all depends on your own configuration and you are using external devices.
Hi, I have a satellite 2450-201.
and I'm sure that when I had it first I could watch DVDs, s without having to start, only now, when I try this the computer starts completely before it will play, now perhap it did this before but I didn't take so long to start, because there was not much on it to slow it down, what I want to know is : is it possible or just my imagination, if not how to reset it please.
Thank you in antisipation
You don't say what operating system you have. To watch DVDs without having to start you would need to have Windows installed MCE. He would use a small area of your hard drive to store the necessary software to allow you to play DVDs without having to start your main operating system.
If you have XP (Home or Pro), then it is more likely that your startup process now takes longer than before so that you can start your DVD software. In this case check for unnecessary tasks or processes by using the Task Manager and I would also recommend spyware scanning, removing everything you find and run Defragmenter and disk cleanup.
I need help to upgrade the dvd for my laptop model Satellite 2450-201 with internal dvd writer.
I have LG and I got this message at startup: error IDE #1. Any suspicion that I speak with Dep. error tech and he said that the problem of compatible driver. I think that good performance with the system.
If I update the bios from 1.3 to 1.5 it will solve this problem?
Or do I need another brand name model to replace the old DVD with DVD - RW?
As someone from the tech, adj. suggested that this error message appears because the car is not compatible.
The disc has a bad master/slave setting and so the BIOS can not recognize the drive.
To resolve this problem, you must upgrade the laptop with compatible player.
I found a compatible Toshiba PA3255U-1DV1 DVD-RAM drive. But this isn't a burner.
I suggest to contact Toshiba service partner in your country to control the compatible player and supported. So you can be sure that you will get a good player.
Can anyone help? I looked in the Bios and the advanced settings screen, and found nothing to increase the size of the video memory.
Any other way to find on my Satellite 2450-201
As far as I know that the unit has been delivered with the NVidia GeForce4 420Go 32 MB graphics card. This isn't a memory sheared graphics card.
The card supports the own memory and not a function of memory sheared.
In this case, you cannot change the value of memory.
I formatted the hard drive on my Satellite 2450-201 and loaded Windows XP SP2. I loaded all the drivers from the disk utilities and everything works well except the USB ports work only in 1.1 instead of 2. There is a yellow exclamation point in device on USB controller Manager. I tried a Toshiba download driver but there is nothing available.
Can someone suggest a soloution to this problem.
As far as I know that there is no driver for USB controller. When you install the chipset driver all USB ports should be recognized correctly. Exclamation mark in Device Manager is an indication that the device is not configured correctly. Try to remove the controller and reboot the device. After this check again in Device Manager.
Some external device is connected to the unit by USB ports?
The hinges on my * Satellite 2450-201 * are turned away.
Are the hinges on the - 101 previous model the same i.e. P000368300 and P000368310 and if so, are still available. If not, can anyone advise please.
Any info gratefully received.
I think you should get in touch with a local ASP (partner).
The ASP can help you order the right parts.
Because this laptop is an oldie, I doubt that you get these pieces from an online retailer
However, google may provide you with some offers if you are looking for unique part numbers
In any case, all the possible parts could be ordered in service partner as I said above, for me, it looks like an easier way to get these parts.
I have a Satellite 2450-201 and it came with a pentium 4 2.4 GHZ.
What CPU will be compatible? Pentium 4 3.6 GHZ maybe because there is P4.
Will this work?
To my knowledge the Satellite 2450 series was delivered with an Intel Desktop Pentium 4 processor.
The desktop Intel Pentium 4 CPU with Intel SpeedStep® technology and processors to run at one of the following speeds:
2.26GHz / bus speed: 533 MHz
2.4 GHz / 533 MHz
2.53 GHz / 533 MHz
2.66 GHz / 533 MHz
2.8 GHz / 533 MHz
The processor incorporates a 12 KB of L1 cache and 512KB L2 cache memory memory.
But as far as I knwn Toshiba does not support updates. You have no guarantee that it will work properly
IA´m an owner of Satellite 2450-201 and I have a big problem.
I just bought a 4 GB SD memory card and Nice, it adapts to the side slot on my laptop.
This is the first time using the memory card, so a needs-to-format window appears when I try to access.
The window has the right information: 3.78 GB, Fat32,...
I click 'OK' and informs the Windows (XP SP2): impossible to complete format (here is Portuguese, then it is translated into English)
If the correct size is informed, 3.78 GB, why windows can't format it?
My laptop is virus and spyware free (only 23 spots in the running and supervision), I have SP2, Bios (most recent) 1.50, SD my controller drivers is up to date (the last and the only one that was released in 2003).
Also tried third party "Panasonic SDFormatter 2.0". He reports the (physical) unit or the mem SD stick is not compatible with the program. And the same effect occurs: the Sd device lost the nice icon and I need to remove/insert the SD card to see again the same story.
Help me please, friends.
It of very strange that you re possible to see the plugin SD card. Some people suggested that this SD card supports only 256MB, 512 MB cards and more with no MMC support.
I put t know if you have a format utility Toshiba SD card installed on the laptop, but on many notebooks of utility such Tosh is preinstalled and could be used for formatting of the card.
According to some poster in this forum the Portege M400 utility format could handle 2 GB, but not sure about 4 GB SD cards.
If possible, you can try to install this utility on your laptop, but you know you don't have much chance that it works.
I think that in this case only an external SD card reader will help you.
I am looking for a WiFi 802.11 g MiniPCI card (Mobile Satellite 2450-201). There is no such product Options & "Accessories" section.
I wonder if my laptop will cooperate with WiFi MiniPCI module to another provider.
Does anyone have experience with that matter?
I m not sure on this subject. My colleague also had a series of Satellite 2450 laptop and I wanted to improve with Wifi.
Because the Hotline could also did not he say anything on this subject. He buyed year USB Wifi Stick.
And it was not so vast as a Mini PCI card!
Hope that help you a bit

I have a satellite 2450-201 and it came with petium 4 I want ypgrade to the athlon 64 x 2 will be this possible upgrade for my laptop?
No, it is not possible.
The Pentium uses different fixing like the athlon.
In any case the portable technology is different because the desktop PC simply and miniaturization make these updates impossible
How to upgrade my 256 MB RAM on my Toshiba Satellite 2450 201? Where is the RAM located on it?
AFAIK, you can upgrade to max 1024 MB (2x512MB) memory
You use PC2100 DDR - RAM memory modules.
The memory must be located under the keyboard. Remove the keyboard, to first remove the thin cover above the keyboard and remove the 2 screws that are placed under the thin cover.
But if you don't have any experience you shouldn't t do. In this case, contact the service in your country
Hi, the drive combo DVD in my satellite 2450-201 has recently stopped reading dvd
If I remember correctly your unit select a bay and you can remove the easy DVD player. In the lower corner, you will find SlimSelectBay latch. Move to position undocking and carefully remove the disc.
The disc is set to SlimSelectBay. I have gift? t remember exactly how many screws are there but the disassembly procedure is not complicated. Check it!
