Satellite 2540CDS, cannot start system!

I have a 2540CDS Satallite my son gave me and I can't get the system to boot. I tried windows 98 w/os boot floppy disk in and the system restarts and I get the "non-system disk", I get the same message when I try to boot from the CD-ROM in windows xp too. Can someone help me get it going?

Are your sure that your startup disk is ok
and (or) your CD of Windows XP is bootable?

Please check and keep me posted!

Hi, after installing some software of spyware on my vista A210 (spysweeper) I rebooted my laptop, restart it went straight to the Boot Manager and load insert me my recovery disc and follow the instructions in an effective way. The only options I have with this disc to format my hard drive, it seems to indicate that it will erase everything (that would include things on my partitioned drive?).

No there is no way to start the PC in safe mode? I tried using the F8 key, but couldn't get the SafeMode menu by using the recovery disk to start my machine. So when I chose to start windows in safe mode it loaded the disc in place.

This sounds like a familiar problem, if so someone knows how can I restore the last parameters of weeks without access to windows?

I'll have to swallow and format my drive, on the partition that I have a few photos, etc. that I've not saved yet a trip last week so I want to only do this as a last resort?

Would I be able to go buy a copy of vista and fix it using the CD? My laptop came with windows vista installed but no windows disk.

    Any help is very appreciated!

    Thank you.

If you are not able to go into the F8 advanced boot menu, you cannot start in safe mode. It's done.
I think the only way is to reinstall Vista.

The reason why the laptop came without installation disk is the disk HARD on the second partition a folder called "HDDRecovery". This folder contains the factory settings and you can restore it if you go to the menu of advanced, boot repair my computer and then you can select the Toshiba Recovery feature.
In addition, you always get a reminder message that you must burn this image to a DVD:
    + Important INFORMATION +.

+ your system is equipped with a hard drive recovery system. If you need repair.
+ your computer in the restaurant to original factory State, you can do it directly.
+ HDD (press F8 when you start your computer, choose "Repair your computer" +)
+ and follow the instructions in the menu) or create a media drive bootable recovery to that end. +.

+ Toshiba recommends you create recovery disk medium uses the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator' to ensure the +.
+ Hat you are able to restore your computer to the State of origin, installed at the factory, even if your computer +.
    + Gets severely damaged.

However, now it is too late to burn the recovery disc.
In your case, I would order a Toshiba Recovery disk directly. Then, you can reinstall the laptop and the Toshiba drive already contains all the drivers and tools.
    Here you can order: [https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx]

If you use the recovery disk Toshiba that the whole HARD disk will be formatted. You should back up your data before doing this.
To do this, you can buy an external HARD drive enclosure. Remove the HARD drive from the laptop, put it in the case and plug it into another PC or laptop. Then, you are able to save your data.

I hope I could help you.

  • Satellite A300: cannot start: blocked by Phoenix TrustedCore Setup Utility

    {SUMMARY: "Phoenix TrustedCore Setup Utility" appears every time you start, requesting a non-existent password.} How to get rid of this request? }

This one is a little weird. We have a Tosh Satellite A300-193 mobile (Code manufacturer: PSAJ1E-01000XEN) purchased from July 2008 (via Getech educational scheme). We have (had) Kaspersky Anti-virus on this subject, but since his license has expired (and they didn't really like it), I was going to remove and install Avast.

Kasperky removal instructions involve have their tool "kavremove" who say their instructions must be run in safe mode. So, after downloading the tool, I pressed F8 to boot into safe mode...

... And that's where things went wrong. Instead of typical black screen startup options screen, I got a splash screen at the level type, with a request for password of "Phoenix TrustedCore Setup Utility. We have never set a password on this computer, and I've never seen this particular screen before. After three bad guess (of course they're wrong!, and it does not matter if I leave the field blank), the unit turns off.

Now when I turn it on, it just goes right to the request for password of Phoenix: I hit F2, F12, F8 or whatever it is. I can't establish why it should do, or how I can possibly bypass it. None of my password guess work (of course).

I googled for hours (literally), closes the thing, I could find were instructions in [a post on the forum USA | http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Windows-Vista-Windows-XP/Satellite-A205-Cannot-Access-BIOS/m-p/123075#M7749]. It was a partial solution: we can start the machine with this procedure (phew!).

Unfortunately, it is not a permanent solution. After EACH stop, at the next start-up presents impossible demand "password." So it comes to pull the battery (again), to the phase of "discharging", battery, turn on and - it boots. Or at least, he has every time so far.

This is going to be extremely painful. Any tips or to tackle the problem of pointers, which would be welcome. I will never see this request for password "Setup Utility".

    Thank you!

    Hello

I think the password loss is the BIOS password.
I m wondering why this password is displayed when starting if you have not set it

However, the point is that the BIOS password can be removed if you n t know this password.
Unknown BIOS password can be removed by a Toshiba authorized service partner.

  • Satellite L40 - cannot start Windows

    Hello

hope you can help, my computer Toshibal L40 laptop on commissioning began by displaying the following error message:

    * "Cannot start Windows. a recent change in the software hardware might be causing... » *

    It offers the possibility of:
    "* Launch Startup Repair option" * "

I chose this. WIndows seems to load up, but then I get the following error message:

Installed program cannot start. Click OK to turn off the computer *.

I lost the recovery disk, but attempted to load the recovery console by using a windows XP disk, but it gave me error message more. Advice would be very welcome.

For the installation of Vista you don't need SATA driver but for Windows XP Home edition you need. Is no problem at all.

The question is what you want to do now? If you want to use Vista just use recovery media and you will have factory again.
    No problem at all.

    Hello

Have you installed original recovery image that you created on the USB key?

Please try to install it again. Usually after installation of the own image of recovery your laptop should boot correctly.

By the way: have you noticed this problem right after the installation, or later after some updates to install.

Have you tried to solve it using Windows start-up settings?

  • Re: Satellite L310 - cannot start from the HARD disk

    Hello

My L310 just died on me yesterday. My system just can not start, not even in Safe Mode. And it keeps trying to start using my network card, not through hard drive.

I put the BIOS default settings, but it does not help.

And she has this tone to loud continuous beep when it tries to start using the network card. A continuous beep, even on the screen of the BIOS and in safe mode.

I chose the hard drive manually, but he keeps trying to start through the network adapter.

And the laptop does not meet the keyboard. Even with a keyboard external usb. When I sometimes managed to boot my system on the rare occasion, I get to the login screen and cannot button my password.

    Does anyone have similar problems?

    Let me know. Thank you!

Looks like your HARD drive is defective. BIOS recognize it?
You should test the disk with Drive Fitness Test. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT

Check this box and give us feedback. Maybe the HARD drive needs to be replaced.

On the keyboard issue it is not easy to say what are the causes of the problem, but in the worst case that he should be replaced also. :(

Here another thread about the installation of the SATA drivers!
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=26040

You must include the * Intel Matrix Storage Manager * during the XP installation process.
As far as I know you have to press the F6 key to include the external USB FDD drive driver.
Once you have included the SATA driver * DON T format the drive HARD * or create all partitions because that would erase the included driver!

Another possibility to include the SATA drivers is the use of the * software to nLite.
By using this software, you could include the SATA driver in the new created XP CD.
And then you could boot from the new CD.

    > no initialization of SPARCFichiers of hard disk
    > can not load hard drive
    > Insert systemdisk and press a key

This error message appears because you didn't boot from the bootable CD and/or the operating system has not been installed on the HARD drive and the laptop I wanted to boot from the HARD drive.

  • Satellite T130 - cannot start the Toshiba HDD recovery

Hi all, I have a problem with my Satellite T130. I have to start the drive HARD Toshiba recovery but the computer tell me that is not a valid drive HARD recovery on the PC. It's probably a fault of my father. Is there another way to start the recovery?

    Thank you

    Hey Buddy,

How are you trying to start the HARD drive recovery process?

The full HARD drive recovery procedure is described here, so please check this article:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

If it doesn't work your only option, you use the recovery media. Did you create this such as described in the user manual?

  • Re: Satellite A300 cannot start, cannot use the factory recovery

Hi all, I have a Satellite A300, which gave me problems in the past few weeks...

    I use Windows Vista

There are about 2 months in the beginning of the laptop problem, it restarts itself automatically before enter in windows (while in the windows loading screen, no blue screen, screen just suddenly darkens and restarts itself), but it will get finally in windows successfully after a few loops

but about 3 weeks ago, it just keeps looping and never get into windows, good news, it is that it can capture mode safe without problem

I've done everything I can to try and save, as play with msconfig, drivers, removing the Rams etc, but not luck

so, I save everything in safe mode and decided to restore the machine factory, but the problem is that when I boot up the computer by pressing 0 and enters the recovery screen, reboot loop will happen!

any idea? or y at - it another way to restore to factory without touching the windows installed in my laptop? is it a hardware problem or software?

I thought about the creation of recovery disks but my cd drive is not working properly, and I don't want to take the risk of buying an external cd drive not knowing not if the problem can be solved...

    Thank you very much!

    >.. .i don't want to take the risk of buying an external cd drive not knowing not if the problem can be solved...
That of right, but you must understand that it is not easy on this virtual path to offer an accurate explanation and diagnosis for your problem.

It is not easy to tell whether it is hardware or software related issue. best way to test is installation of recovery image. Recovery image is tested and if there are no some portable hardware problem should work fine. How to install the recovery image, which you can read on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm

    >.. .or is there another way to restore to factory without touching the windows installed in my laptop?
Something like this is not possible. Windows that you use now needs to be reinstalled. I don't know why you the laptop restarts, but it's also the risk of recovery image installation. In case this recovery image installation will be interrupted, you will have two problems:
-image of original recovery saved on your HARD drive will be unusable
-you will not be able to start t

In your situation the best is to minimize this risk and have original recovery DVD that can be used if something goes wrong.
    > but the problem is that when I boot up the computer by pressing 0 and enters the recovery screen, reboot loop will happen!
Can you please explain what is exactly happening? Is - this laptop is simply cut off / go to the coast and then reboot again or what?

When I select dvd to start, it does not show the message "press any key to boot...". ', show just flashing dashboard on black screen while the dvd system makes noise like its dvd playback. But after CCA 30 seconds, it load currently installed win. I also tried to change the order in the start menu. Nothing helps.

I'll be grateful for any advice.
    Kind regards.

    Hello

You try to use the original Microsoft installation disc or disk installation of self-made?
Have you tested your A300 with some other bootable discs?

Start your machine and press F12. When you see the boot on the screen menu, put the Windows installation disc into the optical disc drive, choose the CD/DVD option in the menu and press ENTER.

But for EU Toshiba HARD drive recovery worked as follows:

-Follow the instructions on the screen.

    It works for you?

  • Satellite A100 cannot start due to virus

Hello, I'm new on these forums, please bear with me.

I have a SAT A100 with XP PRO OS.
I encountered a problem which I hope someone can help with.

Yesterday, I met the (W32. Virut.CF), I proceeded to get the symantec removal tool.
Travel requires safe MODE, I went to access safe mode when the system crashes.

I tried to reboot in safe mode: the result is (blue screen-stop 0x7B error).
I tried to restart the system normally: result I can connect but get popups.
userINIT logon APPLICATION - have all the problems and
the application service layer gateway - must close.
    MS windows search protocol host-
System hold my wallpaper and it is she outside repeated popups MS windows search protocol host has a problem and needs to close.

These problems, I suspect that are the result of the virus, most of the problems I was able to untangle myself, but I did have to use the before recovery disk.

My question is I would like to restart on this disc, if possible, to deal with viruses, but I think that it can remove critical data from the input of the previous days, if I have to fully recover.

All this took place about 10-15 minutes, research tells me that it is a particularly nasty virus.

Thanking you in advance for any input.

    Hello

You are right. Using the recovery disk will kill the virus, but it will also format the entire HARD drive and erase all partitions.
So, you will lose all data that was stored on the HARD drive!
But it would be the safest way to delete all infected files.

PS: The recovery disk is not the same thing as the common original Windows disc. You cannot use the recovery disk to access the OS installed. the recovery disc can only be used for the new installation image.

  • Satellite A10: Cannot recover system with recovery CD

    Hej everyone!

I was struggling with a strange problem lately, I can not understand yet, so if anyone has any ideas so pls...

I have 2 laptops Satellite A10. I lost the CD of recovery to one of them, so when I tried to reinstall the laptop I decided to use the other one recovery CD to do that because they are the same... at least I thought they were...

I repartitioned the laptop with fdisk and made the partition active, formatted and then when I boot with the recovery CD, it began, began to dump files, but about 20%, he just say 'impossible recovery' or something "partition is not active" and restart. When I rebooted, it saw that the format of the C partition was gone (he said unformated or damaged partition).

Now, I tried 1 partition, 2 partitions, FAT32 and NTFS, no joy... I think you must have some special configuration of partitions to ensure the success of the recovery, but I don't know how.

I have not tried to reinstall the other laptop with the recovery CD because I'm afraid that it's too bad...
    Can someone help me pls?
    BR
    / Linus

    Hello Linus

Before you begin the recovery procedure, it can't do anything. Simply start the recovery procedure. I don't really know why the recovery procedure stops after 20%, but please do not prepare HARD drive before using the recovery procedure delivered.

If I remember well you have two options before the start of the recovery procedure: standard and expert mode. If you use the standard mode is wiped the entire HARD drive and recovery image will create a partition (the whole HARD disk capacity). Using expert mode you can create a clean partition and later in management of the disks (under WXP) create the second logical partition.

Please try both options. If the recovery CD is not damaged I really don't see any reason why the recovery procedure can be done successfully.
