Satellite A100-386 - HDD upgrade question

Hello everyone and happy new year.

First of all, sorry for my bad English.

I bought a Satellite A100-386 a few years and I'm really happy, but my hard drive has failed.
So, I wanted to know if I could put a 2.5 "SATA II disk, like this.

http://www.materiel.NET/Disque-Dur/Hitachi-Travelstar-5k500-b-s-ATA-II-250-go-8-mo-48900.html

because when I see the characteristics of the satellite, they mention a hard drive with only S - ATA.
Y at - it compatibility?

Thank you answer :)

Bye bye

Hello

Yes, I think that this should be possible.
The A100 supports hard drives SATA controller, and theoretically, you can use any HARD SATA 2.5 drive.

  • Re: Satellite A100-803 - CPU Upgrade question

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite A100-803 at the moment. There is an Intel Core 2 Duo T5200 inside and it is a bit slow. Also, it does not support VT - x extensions.

My idea is to build a simple hobby-server which should run Gentoo with Xen on it. I can buy an Intel Core 2 Duo T7600, but there are two things I'd like to know.

1 the bios does support the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600?
    2. If she supports the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600, is it possible to use VT - x extensions?

    > 1. The bios supports the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600?
It is not known to me, but you should check if the chipset supports the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600. If the chipset does not support this CPU you can not use this CPU in your A100. But if the chipset would support the new CPU then you ve good chances to use this component.

    > 2. If she supports the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600, is it possible to use VT - x extensions?
Hmm, that's a good question; as far as I know the BIOS must support the feature VT - x to use it of course the CPU must support this too so I think that VT - x should be available if the update for Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 would be successful

  • Satellite Pro A100-830 - HDD upgrade questions

I'm a complete noob so please forgive my silly question!

I would like to replace my laptop HARD drive, is there any combatibilty issues I should be aware of, or is it just a case of getting a HARD drive 2.5 "?

Is it easy to buy an external and use the internal drive inside the case?

This seems to be the best way to the value of doing. Specific recommendations?
    Thank you!

    Hi magicmat,

Generally upgrade the HARD drive is not complicated, and that's why you only have to remove the cover of the HARD drive on the lower side of your laptop to replace the HARD drive.

Satellite Pro A100 already use hard disks with SATA interface so you have such a HARD drive. In addition, I would recommend a 5400 RPM model because it s quite fast and doesn t a lot of power.

So that s what you need to know about upgrading. Theoretically, you can use the old or an external HDD with an external HARD drive enclosure. Also no problem. :)

    I have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE 1800-S274 P III 1.1 G 512 MB with XP PRO Spanish

    Part c: PS183U-00JRSPNC Serial Nr: 32014957PU
The keyboard and the OS is Spanish.

The HARD drive was accident, restart the PC, with a blue windows with the error text impossible to read because it quickly restart again.
Cannot access the HARD disk also with other means or connected to another PC boot disk.

PROBLEM 1) what type of disk HARD can I put up what capacity?
(the original HARD drive is MK2018GAP. Capacity 20 GB 4200 RPM ATA4)
I read on the net that is perhaps the BIOS accept more than 60 GB or HDD companies other than Toshiba. Is this true?

In my country, the best ratio price/GB is a 80 or 120 GB 5400 RPM also label of Toshiba.
    I put these?

Here is a best value of HARD drive:
    Toshiba 40 GB 5400 RPM UDMA100 (MK4032GAX)

I contacted Microsoft, they say I have to ask the builder OEM installation with a CD XPpro OEM but there not sure they give me this.
I don't want to buy a new OS, and I can't restore it because the HARD disk is damaged.

How can install OS on the new HARD drive?

My laptop its 6 years if I have to buy the HARD drive and OS XPpro is not a good deal.
Maybe I can try to install an old Win 2000 pro I have. Do you think that it work on my type of laptop? And readers are available for my type of laptop?

Thanks a lot for your help

I also believe that you can use the 60 GB HARD drive for this oldie.

Please don't be crazy about me, but how you want to install the operating system if you don't want to buy the CD of facilities? If someone give you something for free or what. You can try to order the original recovery media, but in my opinion, it is not in stock, or you can buy the CD of original Microsoft facilities. If you check eBay you can find a used one and have it for little money.

The BIOS recognizes the HARD drive correctly?

Perhaps the size of the HARD drive is too big and so you have a few problems with the laptop.

The fact is that not all HARD drive sizes are supported and the BIOS recognizes all drives, if the size is too large. Therefore, you should try a smaller HARD drive

The problem is that there is no official information on the maximum size of HARD drive on laptop series different. If we can only speculate on the supported formats.

But I found it here in the forum:

    Hello

I think that the laptops BIOS should recognize the new HARD drive.
The new HARD drive is a SATA HDD and it's the most important thing.

You need a 2.5 SATA HARD drive!
Size and speed are not really important, because the new SATA controller must manage this without HARD disk problem.

    Hello

What is the new HARD disk?
As far as I know, this unit was delivered with a 40 GB HARD drive.
If the new HARD drive is bigger, then maybe the BIOS have some problems to recognize the HARD drive.

  • Satellite A100-386 - how to upgrade the BIOS?

    Hello

I wanted just to update my old Satellite A100-386 with 4 GB of RAM (2x2gb Crucial) instead of 1 GB, as I am now running Windows7 Pro 64 bit instead of the original XP 32.

I read that I had to upgrade the BIOS as mine is v2.00. So, I downloaded the last of them.
It seems to be an automatic upgrade of BIOS (S10V600.exe) as mentioned on the site Web of Toshiba.
But when hit the .exe, I have a box of error message saying:
"LOADPEDRV. "EXE: could not start the service.

My question is: do I have to be 32-bit OS to run the upgrade of the automatic BIOS or is it possible to Flash the BIOS with a Windows7 64 bit OS run?

Thanks a lot for all answer as I found no 'how to' in search on this forum.

    Best regards
    François

    Hi FPSim,

Who said that you need to update the BIOS to upgrade RAM? The maximum RAM capacity depends on the motherboard and chipset and not BIOS.

Official website of Toshiba, I have seen that the model supports 4 GB of RAM so the BIOS update is not necessary. Increase the RAM and everything is ok.

  • Satellite A100 - 386 (PSAA9E) - support button

    Hello

I would like to learn more about the special keyboard keys. I have 4 large buttons on the left side of my keyboard, maybe 6 under: "(internet, cd/dvd, lecture/pause, stop, retour en arrière/avant)."

I would like to know everything about them: where are they in the control panel? How the Support Button works? How to record TBS are used?

In fact, I would like to make them a job I want: I don't understand why I have 6 button, but only 2 (internet, cd/dvd) in the software 'button '.
(of course, nothing happens whatever I set up in support of the key). Another thing: I have a strange Y instead, if the \ in the path of the Support Button. Is this really?

    My hardware: Satellite A100-386 (psaa9e)
My software: Windows Visa Ultimate b 32

    Hello

I can understand that you are so curious, but unfortunately no one will be able to give specific answers to your questions. I just write my opinion about it. I hope that you will agree with my opinion.

In any case all these buttons are designed to make notebook easy and also more comfortable to use. As you can see there are two buttons that you can use to start an application and others are designed for a multimedia application.

    To be honest your sentence
    > I do not understand why I have 6 button, but only 2 (internet, cd/dvd) in the software 'button '.
completely confused me. If you see 4 buttons are for multimedia I don't understand why you can't understand that. You can use them with EMP, WMP, and WinDVD.

Exact explanation, how it works, you can find in s operating manuals. Maybe you can tell us how you want to configure all these buttons.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-386 with windows XP MCE.

I recently had a virus, so I formatted my drive. I don't have the installation CD with me, so I install XP.
I have two disc on my computer with the system and the other with the documents.
Then I install ALL the drivers I could find on the Toshiba site for my computer.
This means that the PSAA9E. The problem is that I have no internet! I don't understand why.

When I look in computer management, I have no ethernet, controller mass storage controller and network controller.
I have zone alarm as a firewall and an antivirus avast!

I disabled avast to be sure that he's not in it but no result...
In Thoshiba drivers there is also something to update the BIOS.
I did it but I didn't change. I hope the problem here not there...

It will be really nice to help me ^^

    Hello

I think that you just have not installed the right driver LAN and WLan driver

As much as I know this laptop supports Intel Pro 100 Lan and WiFi Intel 3945ABG card card

Please visit the European driver Toshiba page again and download the compatible network driver and the driver WLan.
Unpack the packages, then install it.

Finally check again if the LAN and WLan cards were recognized in the Device Manager in network adapters.

    Good bye

  • Satellite A100-011 - RAM upgrade

    Hello

    I have laptop Satellite A100-011. And I want to improve his memory. It has 1 GB of ram DDR2 533 hz. My questions are the following;
    1. how many ram slots have?
2-can we add 2 GB of ram DDR2 533 hz more, if so, will total 3GB? Or shoud I replace 2 GB 1 GB?
3 - ? It s possible to use DDR3 Rams or different frequency as 800 Hz?
4 - What brand should I use to upgrade? Kingston etc?
5 - ? f I upgrade the memory of my laptop, can I install windows7 32 bit (I have windows vista at the moment)

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

I'll try to give you some answers:

    # According to specification of laptop there two RAM slots
    # Your laptop can handle with 4 GB max, then you can do whatever you want and it depends on how much RAM you want to have inside. You can buy a module of RAM of 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM. That should be enough to work with Vista or Win7 even. Of course, you can upgrade to maximum and buy 2 X 2 GB.
    # It has no meaning at all. If the speed of the FSB of your motherboard is 53 MHz why use 800 MHZ modules. Your laptop will not be faster because of Rams with more MHz.
    # Yes, Kingston product high quality and using Kingston modules, you should not have compatibility problems.
    # I put t see any reason why you shouldn't be able to install Win7, but before this visit Toshiba support page and check if your phone model is supported for Win7.

  • Satellite A100 stops after upgrade memory

Consider me the thickie Pack 1... Not sure wot im talkin end but n e way...
    Have a Satellite A100 570 (PSAA2E)...

Tried several websites online lookin for memory upgrade. Did not have the witt to use the toshiba site... Eventually get to the point...
Ran the Diagnostics on laptop and sent module one needed.or so I thought... wrong 1 or 1 s I bought 2 x 1 G modules in order to 'double '...

Got my money because they were not compatible with my system... something to do with the problems of density...
Tried company called OFFTEK... they seemed to know what they were talkin' about... I'm Offtek. at present one...

    200-pin 1.8V SoDimm PC2 - 4200 DDR2... but Toshiba recommended below...

    Part number: PA3411U-2M1G
    1024 MB (1 GB) memory PC2 - 4300 DDR2 (533 MHz)

Theres an obvious difference... 4200 and 4300. But I'm not sure if there is a significant difference... or what it means
Update the bios to the version latest and basically put all that toshiba had to offer for this model...

EVEREST ran and it recognizes the module 1 G but when I pull out the original 512 MB module, the laptop starts for about 3 seconds then stops...
This repeats about 5 times then fill stop...

I don't like open the back cover too often but it's the 3rd module...
Don't know what is supposed to happen if the module works... IE launch message... dunno if windows recognizes module 1 G...
Would be - this bet safer to send Offtek module and stick with option of toshiba...
