  I think that this is not a good idea. An upgrade of RAM should be done only if the computer or portable computer is turned off.

  Also if you can upgrade the laptop to 2 GB not using a module with 2 GB of memory. Use two modules with 1 GB for each module.

  I think that you should also check your RAM upgrades for user manuals. As far as I know that you can upgrade your laptop with 4 GB of RAM. Therefore, you can use DDR2-533 modules. You buy from an authorized service provider or Kingston modules also recommendable.

  Upgrading the CPU is not supported. BIOS and motherboard are tested only with the preinstalled CPU.

  Choose the Satellite A100 PSAA9E and download the necessary drivers.

  Ethernet controller means WLan driver
  Network average controller LAN driver
  video controller (VGA compatible) means display driver
  SM bus controller means Flash Media Driver for Texas Instruments (it s SD card reader)

  I don't know what you mean under non-working DVDs. Is the drive defective optical drive or media DVD is not readable?

  Anyway, the fact is that if you want to have the factory again settings you must install operating system using Toshiba DVD recovery. If you don't have it you can do clean OS installation using the Microsoft DVD facilities. All the necessary drivers, tools and utilities are available on the Toshiba support under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com page > support & downloads.

  When you use recovery media Toshiba HARD whole disc will be erased. Absolutely everything. All data and partitions.
  What you want to do with recovering data unfortunately will not work. You cannot copy the recovery image and start it from the other partitions. Not on Satellite A100.

  On new A300, something like this is possible because the recovery image is stored on the second partition in folder HDDRecovery.

  You described your situation, but this seems very strange.
  As far as I know, the laptop uses a 128 MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X 1400 graphics card and this isn't a memory sheared graphics card!
  This card uses own 128 MB and must share main memory!

  I put t know why you suggested that you have only 512 MB.
  How did you test it?

  I just bought a Satellite A100-599. It comes with Vista, but I wanted to go back to XP. I have not found any place where Toshiba offers drivers for the PSAARE part number, still less for A100-599.

  There is no special links. Only the place where you can find the drivers is the Toshiba official download page. If you find no drivers, you must wait. Now Vista drivers are priority and support for Windows XP edition family for new units certainly isn't the first job that Toshiba should do. Please do not see this as a problem. You have a newer laptop with the latest OS available on the market.

  I just recommend you read other topics on this forum about Windows XP Home edition on the new laptops Vista preinstalled. You will find lots of useful information.

  First you should check if the laptop would support 2 GB of RAM.
  If the chipset would support 2 GB of RAM then you can use the modules together:
  a 1 GB of RAM and a 512 MB RAM module.

  But note; then RAM modules should support the same specifications to ensure that there would be no error at boot.

  By the way; more details on the amount of RAM is possible should be mentioned in the user manual.
