Satellite A100-811 T5600 processor upgrade > T7600

Hello world!

I have old Toshiba Satellite A100-811 (motherboard: Capell Valley (NAPA) CRB based on Intel 945 GM Express chipset, BIOS: Phoenix 6.00 upgrade) and I would like to replace processor for latest. My current CPU is Core 2 Duo T5600 @1. 83 GHz, Socket 479mPGA. I would like to install the Core 2 Duo T7600 @ 2.33 GHz. According to the website of Intel, are compatible with 945 GM and socket 479mPGA T7600 SL9SJ/PBGA479.

link to the specifications: http://ark.intel.com/products/27257/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T7600-4M-Cache-2_33-GHz-667-MHz-FSB

I like to make sure if T7600 SL9SJ/PBGA479 will cooperate with this laptop.

It would be a great help if you could give me some advice and confirm if it will be good choice :-)

Mariusz

No one will be able to tell if this new CPU would work correctly with this laptop because upgrades processors are not supported by one of the manufacturers of mobile phones.

But from my own experience, updates are possible, sometimes.
If the chipset would be compatible with the new processor, you've got a good chance to get it running.
But I m not very good on the BIOS is supported, but usually, it shouldn't be a problem.

    Hello

the Satellite A100 supports an Intel 945GM processor 8MB - 128 MB of graphics memory shared memory, it's true. But
as far as I know it of not possible to allocate this memory shared manually, it happens automatically.

If the application running more graphic must map memory then the OS will be automatically increases this value.

It seems that this laptop came with 512 MB of memory. In my opinion you must upgrade the memory of 1024MB if you want to use the full 128 MB shared memory.

  • Satellite A100-811 - maximum memory capacity

I have an old A100-811 Satellite with Windows XP SP3. It has 1 GB of memory (2 x 512). I want to improve the memory. What should I do?

    1. put another memory of 2 GB so the total is 2.5 GB (will I get in trouble for using two types of 512 MB and 2 GB memory?)

    2 put 2 x 1 GB total 2 GB (for better styling?)

    3. put 2 x 2 GB. But will I have the 4 GB memory full or only 3 GB because of the limitations of memory Win Xp?

Do I need a BIOS update for this?

Thanks in advance for any info!

    Hi skga100,

The maximum capacity of RAM in Satellite A100-811 is 4 GB. This means that you can install 2 GB in each slot.

Usually for Windows XP 2 GB is enough but I want to upgrade to Vista or Windows 7, you should think about 3 or 4 GB

In your case, I would buy a 2GB memory module. If you are on the safe side.
Why? If you want to install Vista or Windows 7 later, you can buy a second memory module and keep your 2 GB module. Who s the easiest way. :)

And no, upgrading the BIOS is not necessary.

  • Re: Satellite A100-811 main battery indicator is OFF

    Hello

I have a toshiba satellite a100-811 and the problem is the following:
When it is plugged in, the main indicator should be blue (full load) or orange (charge).
Now it is off (no light at all).

I unplugged DC and back is plugged and the fire was orange for a few seconds and then went off again. Battery is charged at 99%.

What is a battery or a motherboard problem?
The laptop is old. Should I be backing up my files?

    > Should I be backing up my files?

You should always have a backup of your files in case something bad happens to your laptop or HARD drive.
But the battery issue would not affect your files directly.

    However, try this:
Remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter.
Now hold down the power button / stop along 30 sec.
Then, plug the battery and plug in the AC adapter and check if the battery indicator would be IT.

But I think that if the laptop is still running even if the AC adapter is not connected, then the battery should be ok

    Hello

I have the Satellite A100-811. Part number: PSAA8E-0YT026G3, I want to know the motherboard model and price to buy.

    Hey Buddy,

Why you want to know the reference number of the motherboard? You can buy a new, authorized service and they can tell you how expensive it is.

Don t forget that the laptop parts are specific designed for a series and that means t, you can choose between different motherboards as on desktop computers.

  • Satellite A100-529 - Question about upgrading CPU

    Hello.

I have laptop Toshiba Satellite A100-529 and I want to change my Celeron M 380 for something better, but I don't know what the CPU can insert to this computer.

When I was looking for similar templates I got same CPU with the same chipset. I don't know how to take apart my Toshiba CPU and change, I also have the latest BIOS.

Technical details are in links with screenshots.
What the best processor I can use on this computer?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

As Akuma already written, you can choose a CPU of the other models. Look on the lower side to identify your model number.

But don t forget that the CPU upgrade is risky. No one has tested this before CPU in your laptop and my cause overheating or something else. This upgrade is official not supported: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

  • Satellite A100-250: what processors are ok?

    Hello.
I hope that everything is ok.
I have Toshiba Satellite A100-250 model PSAA2E-03u030du and I want to improve it with a new processor. Which processors are ok for me?

    Hello

I have bad news for you my friend.
The upgrade of the computer laptop CPU is not very easy and especially not possible
    Why? For different reasons;

If you want to swap the CPU you need to know
    -How to disassemble the laptop,
-How to reprogram a new BIOS that corresponds to the CPU and the system configuration
-How and what thermal grease to be applied to the CPU and cooling modules
-How to change the table fan which is stored in the BIOS
    -etc.

So, as you can see the upgrade of the CPU is a bit tricky it just different s as a CPU upgrade on desktop computers.
In addition, no one will be able to tell if the laptop will run stable after the upgrade.
Last but not least, you will lose the warranty!

Believe me it s no need to replace the CPU because of all of these above mentioned risks and to be honest, you won't get any spectacular performance gain.

But if you want to know which processors could be compatible, then check your chipset properties and research on the Intel page for details.
You will find information on the compatible processors

  • Satellite A100-991-set to upgrade to Windows 7

    Hello

I am the owner of a Satellite A100-991. Thanks to Toshiba, I upgraded from XP MCE Vista Home Premium at a small price.

Now, I would like to upgrade to Windows 7, but I don't know which version of Windows 7, I have to buy.

Not a Toshiba offers special "Vista to Windows 7" for Notebooks?
If not, should what kind of Windows 7 I buy at Microsoft? Is one compatible with my current operating system? http://EMEA.microsoftstore.com/FR/Microsoft/mise-a-jour-Windows-7-Edition-familiale-premium

    Thank you

At the moment he is has no info on the models of laptops will be will support for the new Windows 7 operating system.
To be honest, I think your laptop is quite old and it will not support for Windows 7.
You can buy it, but without the utilities, tools and the correct drivers won't you have configured OS as for support of Windows XP Home edition or Vista.

Maybe you should wait a few weeks before management starts and you will see how it will be compatible with Satellite A100.

  • Satellite A100 - incorrectly installed processor

    Hi team,

With much hope and reputation, in the month of October 2007 (app) I buyes a Toshiba Satellite A100 series laptop. When I buy I was told that the laptop contains an Intel Dual Core processor, and even being mentioned as a label on the laptop. Seeing that I bought the laptop.

After the purchase of laptop with the same hope, thinking that thosiba will give good service, I tool a warrantry of extension for another two years.

After a few days of my purchase of laptop I got to know that the laptop doesnot contain processor dual-core Intel but is to have the Intel Core Duo processor that I don't want any.

Immediately I took the laptop to nearest HCL care in chennai, they took the laptop protographs, xerox copies of my purchase and the warranty extension books and informed me that they will come back to me. I've been in regular contact with them during the month of may, but they have not responded to this.

Now it's almost more than 1 year and the issue is not resolved

We hope that you will look like this. I write here waiting for that I will get some justice at least at this point of time

With the last hope on Thoshiba

I think Garrett is right and I checked the specs on the site posted by Garrett.

Simply follow the links posted by Garrett. On the Wikipedia site, you can see that everything is ok!

  • Satellite A100-386 - how to upgrade the BIOS?

    Hello

I wanted just to update my old Satellite A100-386 with 4 GB of RAM (2x2gb Crucial) instead of 1 GB, as I am now running Windows7 Pro 64 bit instead of the original XP 32.

I read that I had to upgrade the BIOS as mine is v2.00. So, I downloaded the last of them.
It seems to be an automatic upgrade of BIOS (S10V600.exe) as mentioned on the site Web of Toshiba.
But when hit the .exe, I have a box of error message saying:
"LOADPEDRV. "EXE: could not start the service.

My question is: do I have to be 32-bit OS to run the upgrade of the automatic BIOS or is it possible to Flash the BIOS with a Windows7 64 bit OS run?

Thanks a lot for all answer as I found no 'how to' in search on this forum.

    Best regards
    François

    Hi FPSim,

Who said that you need to update the BIOS to upgrade RAM? The maximum RAM capacity depends on the motherboard and chipset and not BIOS.

Official website of Toshiba, I have seen that the model supports 4 GB of RAM so the BIOS update is not necessary. Increase the RAM and everything is ok.

I took it twice for the service guys, because I thought I did something wrong, but I followed all the instructions corectly. Link to IOS http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?z=234&service=EU&from=faq_selection&CFID=B & FID = TRO0000000b07

    Hello

I ask myself why Toshiba is expected to publish a bad BIOS?  :|
It makes no sense to me, you can find a lot of people with a Satellite A100 and as far as I know nobody had and problem with 5 BIOS update, 9 - Win for A100 PSAA8
So I guess you did something wrong.

However, according to the European Toshiba 6.0win driver Bios page is available at this time and should work fine

But I have an important question; Why do you want to update the BIOS?
Is there something wrong with your laptop?
If not, then the update of the BIOS is not necessary and as you already know an update of the BIOS is ALWAYS risky ;)

    take care of the GUY

  • Satellite A100-811 PSAA8Esupports SATA 2

    Hello.

I have some information of http://www.lippert-at.com Mobile Intel 945GM Express chipset taken in charge by the SATA_2 RAID controller.
But in Satellite A100-811PSAA8E material, it is recognized as SATA_1.

I take up my sistem for SATA_2?

SATA 2, you mean with the SATA 3.0 Gbps
Well from my knowledge the A100-811 supports the interface Serial ATA Rev. 1. 0a.
    So it s a SATA_1 (1.5 Gbps)

But if the chipset supports the SATA_2 then you might consider!

  • Can I put my Satellite A100 - 811 OS to Windows Vista ulitimate?

Hello, I want to improve my A100-811 OS to Windows Vista Ultimate Edition instead of WinXP.
I find the drivers for this model easily... will be any problems after the upgrade?
Vista will work very well on this model?

    Thank you

    Hey Buddy,

the machine is vista ready, then it shouldn´t be a problem to install vista on it. With regard to the ultimate edition: I do not know how the performance will be because things like aero or some other 'system tools' slow the machine down really low. It might be better to stay in XP until they release the first servicepack for Vista (no matter what edition, global it s for all versions ;)).

So if you want to REALLY do, so I give you here a link (http://pc-support.toshiba-europe.com/vista/) where you can search for drivers for your machine, and you should do something like downloading all the drivers, burn them on CD or put on a USB key, back up all your data and then install vista after you have formatted the hard drive.

    Good luck buddy

    Welcome them
