Satellite A100 - expansion to 4 GB RAM

* Good at all.*

I am a happy owner of a Satellite A100-044 with Windows Vista Basic.
I read the manual that I can increase the RAM to 4 GB. I bought 2 per GB 2 bars on the site of Kingston, but do not work together. I also updated the BIOS. I asked explanations to Kingston, but I have not yet responded. Can anyone help please?

Thank you.

I don t think you can upgrade this laptop up to 4 GB.

Check this box:
[Memory for Toshiba Satellite A100-044 | http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=28855&ft=m&st=3]

Here you can find the info that this laptop supports maximum 2 GB of memory (2 x 1024 MB)

Good bye

    Hello

    I have a Satellite A100-003 (PSAARE) with 32-bit Vista installed and 2 GB of RAM (1024 + 1024 DDR2 533 MHz).
I was wondering if it is possible to change the 1 RAM (1024MB) with this RAM: 2 GB DDR2 667 MHz?
Support page says that this laptop supports up to 4 GB of RAM total.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

Generally this information in the user manual it s always mentioned in the manual that is preinstalled on your laptop.

I downloaded the manual on the Toshiba page and found this:
    Slots _Memory: _
+ PC4200 256 MB or 512 MB or 1024 MB modules of memory can be installed in the locations of two memory for a max memory 2048 MB system. +

    _Memory expansion; _
Only the memory modules with the number of following parts can be installed:
    256 MB PA338QU - 1 M 25
    512 MB PA3412U - 1 M 51
    1 GB-PA3411U-1M1G

By the way; the 32 bit OS Vista won't recognize the 4 GB of RAM due to the limitation of the 32-bit operating system. The 32-bit OS can handle max 3.2 GB.

  • Satellite A100-998 - support 2 GB RAM modules?

    Hello

I'm looking to upgrade the memory of my laptop. The vehicle currently have 2x1GB modules in the expansion slots. The manual says it takes PC4200 200 pin memory, but does not specify if it will accept 2 GB sticks as this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/164911. It does not mention of the sticks of 256 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB.

However, I see no reason why he would not support the higher capacity, if I wanted to move to 4-GB memory total. Can someone confirm that this will work? Thank you!

    Andrew

    Hi André,.

According to the specs on the page of Toshiba, Satellite A100-998 supports 2-GB memory modules. This means that you can install the 2 GB of memory in each memory slot for a maximum capacity of 4 GB.

For example, I recommend high-quality Kingston modules. I always buy Kingston modules for upgrade and never had any problems.

  • Satellite A100-011 with Vista: DVD-ram UJ-850 s can not burn DVDs dual layer

    Hello

cannot find answers to my problem, so start a new topic.
    Having Satellite A100-011 with Vista preinstalled and Mat * a DVD - RAM UJ-850 s (firmware 1.10).

Recently installed Nero 7.5.9 and you want to burn DVD (6, 5 GB) media dual layer (Immation - Ritek).

First time Nero stopped with information: could not perform start of Disc At Once (without damaging the media).
After that, run Nero as Windows XP - SP2 program and burn half the disc (first layer), but when to start to burn the second layer (I guess), stop once again with the same error information (could not perform start of DAO).

Simple disc burning layer without problem.

Anyone any idea how to solve this problem?
    Thank you
    Luci

    Hello

tried to record double-layer of a different brand? Maybe you should try it, because sometimes certain brands are not really taken in charge or not very well. And check the toshiba (or google) pilot site for new drivers or firmware for this drive, sometimes that it really helps.

I think that the media are not really compatible, I ve read some similar problems in the roxio forum and they solved by using another brand.

Would be nice if you give some information on this case... :)

  • Update of a Satellite A100-692 with an another RAM or CPU?

    Hello

can I use 667 MHZ ram in my a100-692 and he'll run at 667 MHZ or slow 533?

And can I upgrade my cpu (duo core 1.66 ghz) core 2 duo or core 2quad?

You can use 667 Mhz in your machine, but it will not work on 667 Mhz, because the FSB is running with only 533 Mhz since these models are just call 533 Mhz due to problems of mobile (powersaving, heat generation, etc)

And no, you can't spend your CPU because the Bios does not support it, also the cooling system of your machine is specially designed for a couple of CPU´s that were shipped only with the model of your laptop computer.

Furthermore, if you really swap the CPU, you will lose your warranty.

  • Re: Satellite A100-912 - 4 GB of RAM

I just installed 4 GB of RAM, but my computer can't see only 3 GB.
The two bones are slots and fit also (I checked).
I know the problem in Windows XP. Microsoft made the limitation to 3, 12 GB due to the compatibility of the drivers.
You know, how to omit this limitation?

    Regars, Adam

I'm afraid, it is not possible to m.

Is that all s OS 32-bit Windows (Vista & XP) will not be able to use the entire 4 GB due to the limitation of the 32 bit OS.

But the fact is that it depends on not only compatible operating system.
4 GB of RAM usage depends on various factors such as; BIOS, CPU and Chipset.
All these parts must support 4 GB of memory.

If one of these parts would not support the 4 GB of RAM then you will not be able to use it.

  • Satellite A100 - 750 PSAAR, 4 GB of installed RAM, 3 GB of usable RAM

I just upgraded my Satellite A100-750 of 2x2gb 2x1GB RAM.
The BIOS recognizes 4 GB RAM
but the output of said BIOS then "spent 3 GB RAM system".

My Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OS said it has 4 GB of RAM, but only 3 GB are used.

How can I use all my 4 GB of RAM?

It should not be an OS problem but maybe a one BIOS.
I tried to update my BIOS (now system BIOS version 6.0).
    but without success.

    Any suggestion?
Thank you very much in advance,
    Carlo

    Hello

In order to use 4 GB RAM three different factors are important.

    (1) BIOS
    (2) chipset
    (3) OS

You will be able to use 4 GB of RAM if these 3 parts provide support for 4 GB RAM.

Win 7 64 bit is 4 GB of RAM, so you should check first the capable chipset.
Check chipset in your laptop computer and research on the Intel page for details if 4 GB of RAM are supported.
If 4 GB of RAM are supported by the chipset then the BIOS does not appear to provide support for 4 GB.

  • Re: Satellite A100 - RAM upgrade

I'm looking at upgrading the Ram PC following Toshiba laptop: TOSHIBA Satellite A100 PSAA0C-LE400E

The RAM I can upgrade is as follows:
Memory slots / Max: 2 slots of RAM - bottom of the unit (available to the user), busy one with 512 MB DDR2 PC2-4200; can be filled with 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, or 1 GB DDR2 (2048 MB = 1024 x 1 + 1024 MB x 1 MB Max)

    Memory: 512 MB PC2 - 4200 DDR2
Running under windows 7 32 bit

My Question is that I found Ram named series SQ G.SKILL DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 2GB SODIMM Memory (F2-4200CL4S-2GBSQ)
Where can I put in 4 GB of ram instead of 2 GB max as shown above.

I would say that if it fits it and works it should be able to use up to 3 GB of it with a 32-bit operating system but someone tried?

    Hey,.

If the so-called specifications that you can use 1 GB in each slot and a maximum capacity of 2 GB RAM, why do you buy 4 GB of RAM?
In addition on a 32-bit operating system you can use only up to 3.2 GB

In your case, I would like to purchase 2 modules of RAM with 1 GB of capacity, and it works.

I can recommend the modules of RAM Kingston, because they are quality products and never had a problem with them.

  • Satellite A100-159: expansion of memory RAM problem

    Hello

I have a satellite A100-159. I want to increase the RAM to 2 GB. I checked the type of memory that is supported by the laptop and ordered two modules PC4200 DDR2 SO-DIMM 1 GB of the brand 'Buffalo '. I have after installing the memory and the laptop starts fine (and detects the 2 GB of RAM). However, Windows XP always freezes after login. I reinstalled the original modules and everything works well again.

After that, I installed both modules in other non-Toshiba laptop and here they work perfectly. I know that Toshiba recommends using some partnumbers, but if the modules work fine in another laptop computer why it does not work in the A100?

Recommended modules are almost two times more expensive. If Toshiba wants to make money by forcing people to buy expensive pieces, I will never buy a Toshiba again...

Secondly, is it possible to use DDR2 SO - DIMM 667 modules (these are less expensive than 533 modules)?

    Kind regards
    Martijn

    Hello

    > is it possible to use DDR2 SO - DIMM 667 modules (these are less expensive than 533 modules)

Yes, it should be possible to use the modules of 667 MHz, but generally, they should be more expensive than 533 MHz modules. Of course, modules WITHOUT name are always less expensive than brand Kingston or Toshiba memory modules.

    > Recommended modules are almost two times more expensive. If Toshiba wants to make money by forcing
    > people to buy expensive pieces I will never buy a Toshiba again.

Don t think that they will be forcing anyone to buy expensive parts. but as already said, the brand modules cost more expensive form of low quality modules. The performance of these modules is poor. If you want you can read some computer magazines and find the tests.
They compare the performance of simple modules. So for me it makes no sense to buy a module without name of 667 MHz because for most a brand module 533 MHz is faster and better as module 667 MHz without a name.

I use Kingston modules in my laptop satellite and I'm happy.

  • Re: Satellite A100-667 - RAM and CPU upgrade

Hi all, I am considering upgrading RAM on my * SATELLITE A100-667 * (PSAARE-02700DIT). Is anyone know the maximum amount of ram I can install it? What clock is supported? (553, 667...)

And what about CPU? The laptop comes with an Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66 GHz on Intel i945PM chipset.

Thanks in advance for any information.

    P.

    Hello

I think that you should also check your RAM upgrades for user manuals. As far as I know that you can upgrade your laptop with 4 GB of RAM. Therefore, you can use DDR2-533 modules. You buy from an authorized service provider or Kingston modules also recommendable.

Upgrading the CPU is not supported. BIOS and motherboard are tested only with the preinstalled CPU.

    > but when I installed the second RAM after the BIOS Windows screen accept 2 GB of RAM.
This means that you install RAM modules while the laptop is running?
I m wondering your laptop still works. Normally, you could destroy the whole motherboard and the module.

Anyway, to me it sounds like that your laptop isn't compatible with the memory modules vive. What modules do you have exactly?
I have good experiences with the Kingston modules.

  • Upgrade Satellite A100-200 RAM question

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-200, I want to move to 4 GB.
    I install 2 x 2 GB kingston kvr667d2s5/2 GB pc-5300 ddr2 667 mhz.

Every time I make a control sites Internet it tells me to install PC24200 ddr2 533.
The above will work even as the 4200 ddr2 533hz as those that I want are a lot cheaper.
    Thank you.

Will be two sets of ram pergorm exactly the same thing as long as they are paired.

    Thank you

    Hello

It depends on your bus (FSB) front.
If the modules of 667 Mhz FSB support 667 Mhz then the PC5300 inserted will be run with maximum efficiency (667 Mhz).

But if supports FSB, only modules of 533 Mhz and RAM will run at 533 Mhz only even using the fastest modules (PC5300)

So what you need to do is check the FSB value. You can install a hardware diagnostic tool (IE Everest home edition) to verify the FSB.

    See you soon

    I have laptop Satellite A100-011. And I want to improve his memory. It has 1 GB of ram DDR2 533 hz. My questions are the following;
    1. how many ram slots have?
2-can we add 2 GB of ram DDR2 533 hz more, if so, will total 3GB? Or shoud I replace 2 GB 1 GB?
3 - ? It s possible to use DDR3 Rams or different frequency as 800 Hz?
4 - What brand should I use to upgrade? Kingston etc?
5 - ? f I upgrade the memory of my laptop, can I install windows7 32 bit (I have windows vista at the moment)

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

I'll try to give you some answers:

    # According to specification of laptop there two RAM slots
    # Your laptop can handle with 4 GB max, then you can do whatever you want and it depends on how much RAM you want to have inside. You can buy a module of RAM of 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM. That should be enough to work with Vista or Win7 even. Of course, you can upgrade to maximum and buy 2 X 2 GB.
    # It has no meaning at all. If the speed of the FSB of your motherboard is 53 MHz why use 800 MHZ modules. Your laptop will not be faster because of Rams with more MHz.
    # Yes, Kingston product high quality and using Kingston modules, you should not have compatibility problems.
    # I put t see any reason why you shouldn't be able to install Win7, but before this visit Toshiba support page and check if your phone model is supported for Win7.

  • Satellite A100-529 see only 1 GB instead of 1.5 GB of ram in

    Hello

I have the Satellite A100-529 with 512 MB of RAM.

I bought today memory 1 GB DDR2 PC4200 Corsair of brick.

The problem is, that my laptop sees only 1 GB ram in total instead of 1.5 GB.

I've updated the BIOS, but that's nit helped.

Can anyone an idea what is the reason for this?

    Hello

Have you tried to move the modules of memory in the slots?
You might try to insert the 1 GB module into the first slot and the 512 MB in the second slot.

What in the update of the BIOS? Check if this is possible and if the new version is available.

If this doesn't help, I would recommend using the memory module to recommend Toshiba.
    I looked on the Toshiba option & Accessories site and found this module;
    1 GB OF DDR2 400/533 (PA3411U-1M1G)

    Best regards
