According to "SUPERSITE of Thurrott", you should be able to install multimedia upgrade without a previous installation and activate it.   I had a problem with my laptop Acer Extensa 5230th. It was not started and so I took for Matech computers.  They diagnosed as having a mechanical drive problem.  So they replaced the drive and installed a more recent version of windows vista on.  Note: I haven't bought a new copy of vista family premium, he said he was going to reinstall vista.  It had windows Vista Home Basic, it has installed vista Home premium and said that he had validated by call from windows, but I'm suspicious because I don't think you can use a base of windows key to validate Home premium!  It means that he has put on an illegal version on windows or used the genuine key that came with the laptop.

  * 2 days, got stuck at the "starting Windows".

  The situation is quite clear. You don t have created the recovery disk and you have only two options now:
  (1) you can order the original Toshiba Recovery disk and install the original recovery image
  (2) you can get the original installation disc from Microsoft and install own OS

  Recovery partition can be created when you use the original Toshiba Recovery disk and install recovery image. Before the partitions to boot OS install will be automatically created, recovery image copied on a recovery and then partition as last step recovery image installation starts.

  A sort of migration of files from one to the other HARD disk is not solution.

  Only for laptop with factory will work and the usable recovery partition.

  How you try to install Windows XP Home Edition?

  You may receive an error message "Stop 0x0000007B" in the following scenarios:

  (a) a device driver that your computer boot controller needs is not configured to start during the startup process.

  (b) a device driver that needs your computer startup controller is damaged.

  (c) It can also occur if the hard drive in the BIOS configuration is bad.

  You can check if the SATA hard drive is correctly configured in the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) & can also update the BIOS. If you are not comfortable to do, you can contact the manufacturer of your computer for help.

  Note: Changing the BIOS / chipset can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/chipset can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.
