Satellite A100 stops after upgrade memory

Consider me the thickie Pack 1... Not sure wot im talkin end but n e way...
Have a Satellite A100 570 (PSAA2E)...

Tried several websites online lookin for memory upgrade. Did not have the witt to use the toshiba site... Eventually get to the point...
Ran the Diagnostics on laptop and sent module one needed.or so I thought... wrong 1 or 1 s I bought 2 x 1 G modules in order to 'double '...

Got my money because they were not compatible with my system... something to do with the problems of density...
Tried company called OFFTEK... they seemed to know what they were talkin' about... I'm Offtek. at present one...

200-pin 1.8V SoDimm PC2 - 4200 DDR2... but Toshiba recommended below...

1 GB memory DDR2 PC2-4300 (533 MHz)
Part number: PA3411U-2M1G
1024 MB (1 GB) memory PC2 - 4300 DDR2 (533 MHz)

Theres an obvious difference... 4200 and 4300. But I'm not sure if there is a significant difference... or what it means
Update the bios to the version latest and basically put all that toshiba had to offer for this model...

EVEREST ran and it recognizes the module 1 G but when I pull out the original 512 MB module, the laptop starts for about 3 seconds then stops...
This repeats about 5 times then fill stop...

I don't like open the back cover too often but it's the 3rd module...
Don't know what is supposed to happen if the module works... IE launch message... dunno if windows recognizes module 1 G...
Would be - this bet safer to send Offtek module and stick with option of toshiba...

Thanks in advance...

Have a look here:

You can use the DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 200 - PIN SODIMM bars!

The pc2-4300 Rams are the same as PC2-4200. It s just a marketing gag PC2-4300 are PC2-4200 modules that can be overclocked by some versions of BIOS PC desktop

However, you must take the PC2-4200.

    Hello

Toshiba Satellite L100 113 PSLA3E-02401JRU starts slowly after upgrade memory with Kingston KTT533D2-512 (512 MB) of memory.
When I press the 'power' button, it flashes, starts the fans and HARD drive several times. Then it shows BIOS start messages by memory full 768 MB and starts Windows XP without a problem.
This behavior is noticed only after "shut down."
It does not happen with "restart".
What can I do to eliminate this long "attempts" to start my laptop computer?

    Hello

This problem appears before upgrade memory?
Have you used exactly the same memory modules?
If this isn't the case, then perhaps there are a few compatibility issues.

Usually, after the insertion of the modules you must enter the BIOS and then save the settings. Please it and eventually the laptop will start without any problems.

    1. how many ram slots have?
2-can we add 2 GB of ram DDR2 533 hz more, if so, will total 3GB? Or shoud I replace 2 GB 1 GB?
3 - ? It s possible to use DDR3 Rams or different frequency as 800 Hz?
4 - What brand should I use to upgrade? Kingston etc?
5 - ? f I upgrade the memory of my laptop, can I install windows7 32 bit (I have windows vista at the moment)

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

I'll try to give you some answers:

    # According to specification of laptop there two RAM slots
    # Your laptop can handle with 4 GB max, then you can do whatever you want and it depends on how much RAM you want to have inside. You can buy a module of RAM of 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM. That should be enough to work with Vista or Win7 even. Of course, you can upgrade to maximum and buy 2 X 2 GB.
    # It has no meaning at all. If the speed of the FSB of your motherboard is 53 MHz why use 800 MHZ modules. Your laptop will not be faster because of Rams with more MHz.
    # Yes, Kingston product high quality and using Kingston modules, you should not have compatibility problems.
    # I put t see any reason why you shouldn't be able to install Win7, but before this visit Toshiba support page and check if your phone model is supported for Win7.

  • Satellite A100-159: expansion of memory RAM problem

    Hello

I have a satellite A100-159. I want to increase the RAM to 2 GB. I checked the type of memory that is supported by the laptop and ordered two modules PC4200 DDR2 SO-DIMM 1 GB of the brand 'Buffalo '. I have after installing the memory and the laptop starts fine (and detects the 2 GB of RAM). However, Windows XP always freezes after login. I reinstalled the original modules and everything works well again.

After that, I installed both modules in other non-Toshiba laptop and here they work perfectly. I know that Toshiba recommends using some partnumbers, but if the modules work fine in another laptop computer why it does not work in the A100?

Recommended modules are almost two times more expensive. If Toshiba wants to make money by forcing people to buy expensive pieces, I will never buy a Toshiba again...

Secondly, is it possible to use DDR2 SO - DIMM 667 modules (these are less expensive than 533 modules)?

    Kind regards
    Martijn

    Hello

    > is it possible to use DDR2 SO - DIMM 667 modules (these are less expensive than 533 modules)

Yes, it should be possible to use the modules of 667 MHz, but generally, they should be more expensive than 533 MHz modules. Of course, modules WITHOUT name are always less expensive than brand Kingston or Toshiba memory modules.

    > Recommended modules are almost two times more expensive. If Toshiba wants to make money by forcing
    > people to buy expensive pieces I will never buy a Toshiba again.

Don t think that they will be forcing anyone to buy expensive parts. but as already said, the brand modules cost more expensive form of low quality modules. The performance of these modules is poor. If you want you can read some computer magazines and find the tests.
They compare the performance of simple modules. So for me it makes no sense to buy a module without name of 667 MHz because for most a brand module 533 MHz is faster and better as module 667 MHz without a name.

I use Kingston modules in my laptop satellite and I'm happy.

I am trying to upgrade the memory to 2 GB, as described in the user manual.

The computer does not start with the two new modules inserted. It will start with 1 GB installed in each slot until the original 256 MB module is inserted in the drive on the right, but does not work when the two 1 GB modules are inserted. There are 2 slots and the maximum is 2 GB for this computer. It told me to update the BIOS that I have on this site, but did not work.

    Hello!

The two new modules have the same specifications as the old module?

In my opinion, the new modules are perhaps not fully compatible with your laptop or are not compatible in Dual Channel mode.
What is the exact label of the two modules?

For the upgrade, you need DDR2-533 modules. I searched a bit using Google and the reference is PA3411U-1M1G.

Vista now shows it in as unknown device manager; the TOS1900 showed up too, but after installation of Toshiba Value Pack for Vista, it went.

    Help, please. WHICH IS: ACPI\TOS1901 * TOS1901

    Hello

ACPI-> Advanced Configuration and Power Interface
ACPI defines hardware and software interfaces that allow focus on the OS configuration and power management to enumerate and configure motherboard devices.
For example: ACPI is necessary for the standby and hibernation mode.

Now your question; the new BIOS has been updated and configured to using VISTA.
It seems that VISTA was not compatible with the previous version of BIOS because the ACPI interface. Now you can install Vista on the laptop, but it seems that you need a driver. Possibly new chipset driver version might help. But as you probably know, the drivers are not available at this time. Unfortunately

  • Firefox 4 beta too slow / crashing after upgrade memory?

    Hello

my beta firefox started crashing my whole system yesterday and only noticeable change I did was upgrade memory of 3 to 4 GB of RAM...

I tested my system widely and it works very well until firefox is started, after that, the system started crashing and takes forever to be reactive. I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, tried running without addons, I tried to close all the tabs and all Eske I remembered... still no luck.

I am desperate because I really wanted to keep this beta on my computer, and cuz is a new facility, I can not install firefox 3.6 on side by side, I only have an option 'upgrade' on the installation wizard...

What can I do to fix this?

    Thanks in advance!

The steps to troubleshoot and diagnose problems of Firefox would say you always try in questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode of course some additional software may conflict, it is even more likely if you are using a beta version of firefox and probably the beta or alpha some of the addons or plugins.

  • Satellite A100-289: after 5.1 Bios Update powerfault on usb device

Hey, I have trouble after you install the Bios Version 5.1 on a Satellite A100-289.

First: there is NO external USB device connected!
After the awakening of the laptop Sleepmode , I received a message in Windows XP the a power fault has been detected on one of the USB devices. A dialog box opens and I can "reset" the device.

This only happens after that the laptop is awake in sleepmode, perhaps to Hibernate, but not when the laptop starts. It seems that everything works well, but this post makes me nervous.

Can someone tell me, what is going in this box?

    What about Mirko

    Hello

5.1 BIOS was designed for Vista but it should (or it works) also with XP!

However, you could try updating the BIOS with the other BIOS version that is operating system independent
or / and you can try to disable the power save option for USB ports in Device Manager.

  • Satellite A100-192: after Vista installation HARD disk capacity has decreased

I am a user of Satellite A100-192 with 120 GB hard drive. After I installed Vista Ultimate, I saw this total capacity of my hard drive completely passed to 92, 8 GB instead of 120 GB while it was XP.

What can be the problem? How can I reach the other capabilities of my hard drive?

    Hello

Vista needs and used 2 partitions. The second partition is not visible and it s necessary to Vista backup and restore functions.
Maybe you have verified that the size of the first partition (C) and didn't note the size of the second partition.

  • Re: Satellite A105 stops after 60 seconds (NOT a heat problem)

Satellite A105-s4344 stops after EXACTLY 60 seconds. The mobo was removed from bevels and all devices removed unnecessary (DVD, HDD, WiFI etc.). Swapped CPU and RAM with those well known. AC adapter / CC exchanged and battery by the well known. Does the same on the AC or DC inputs only.

I have not yet flashed the BIOS (at 60 seconds, that would be silly). But, I'm looking to replace or flashing with an EEPROM burner. Currently has V 2.0

I don't know what heat genration detection using this system, but it is a possible cause if it is one of the later generations (visit http://www.topbits.com/how-to-monitor-cpu-temperature.html if you don't know that I'm referring to).

Before reballing North and South of the bridge and flashing, I thought that I would get feedback from you folks. Just to cover all bases ;)

    > P.S. the first person to ask what OS I use will get an instant ticket to the bottom of my list of respect.
:) :) :) Best thing I've seen in this forum.

    Back to your problem.
I'm not a technician but this is just my opinion on all of this. The fact is that after your laptop on CPU switch in seconds only reaches very high temperatures. You can turn on your laptop and just enter the BIOS settings and the same should happen again.

I can't say for sure if it's 100% thermal or not question but what else can be responsible for decommissioning? CPU will be warm in just a few seconds. Significant change structure with temperature change and I can only imagine a contact will be interrupted.

On this forum, we have had many reports similar as when portable cold starts and works well, but after that little time is off without reason. Maybe I'm wrong, but to me it sounds like heat or deliver bad contacts. Let's see what other people have to say about it.

  • Keyboard Satellite A100-906 after spilled drink

    Hello

I am owner of a Satellite A100-906 and I spilled liquid on the keyboard.
As I read on the official website of the product, the keyboard is the spill-resistant.
If I have understood correctly, the keyboard is covered by the warranty in case of spilled liquid.
    Is this fair?

    Thanks in advance,

    Maria

    Hello

I think you had something misunderstanded:

The keyboard is resistant to the spill, but that doesn´t means that it keeps water away from the machine. After checking Asian toshiba website, I found the following description:

    "A keyboard resistant splashes that increase the protection of the system by providing users with enough time to save their work and shut down the system in the case of a spill;

That means the keyboard prevents only the liquids to invade quickly into the machine, but that doesn´t means that the keyboard is covered by the warranty after any spillage of liquids on your machine.

    Welcome them

P.s.: That all means you will be charged for repair...

Aside from that my laptop works ok, it is a satellite A100.

    Hello

I think that this file msvcr.80.dll is part of the .NET Framework 2.0.
I would try to install the version or see if you can do a repair on it via Add/Remove software.

I studied and declined to find out why the error of Norton.

However, it seems that you have installed something that might be a bad influence.

Maybe a switching of the BONE at the beginning good point work would clear this issue.

  • Satellite A100-692: after an error of installation of Windows XP Prof blue

    Hello

I bought a new satellite A100-692 with Windows XP Home OEM as an operating system.
But when I tried to access the internet using the local area network and a Proxy Server, it does not work.

I tried everything I knew and even ask some Forums to get a response, but nothing help.
Then I think it can work when I install Windows XP Prof instead of the OEM Version. Because all Clients in our network work fine with it.

But when I run the Installer (booting from CD) I get a blue screen with the message that there is a problem with the PCI (pci.sys) driver (after loading all the drivers).

Can someone tell what I need to do so that I can install another OS?

    Thank you

PS: Excuse me if my English is not very good ;)

    Hello

First of all, the blue screen error message may appear due to hardware failure or serious malfunction of software.
In your case I guess that it s a software issue because on the version OEM pre-installed, everything worked properly.

In addition I checked the site s driver and it seems that there are drivers for 3 different notebooks to A100. In this case, you should be sure that you use the correct drivers.
As far as I checked this laptop your A100-692 has PSAA9E number.

But have you created a CD of drivers & tools before formatting the HARD drive? This option you will find in the assistance of Toshiba.

However, you can download the drivers from the Toshiba site and here it is very important that these drivers will be installed in the right order!
The chipset utility must be installed in a first time after all installations of service packs.
The common modules are also important.
