Satellite A135-S4487 - new HARD drive, are not not on the desk

I have an A135-s4487 with two hard drives, the two 120 GB. I wanted to increase one of the discs with a 500 GB hard drive. I replaced the 2nd hard drive with the new seagate Momentus 500 GB disk. The computer see the drive on the list of devices but cannot see under computer or use it.

Someone else has had this problem when changing drives, drive is too big and two disks must be of the same size? My OS is the smallest disk. I put the old drive to 120 GB in computer and everything works fine. Thank you

Running Windows 7 with 4 GB of RAM

Hi simirob,

> The computer see the drive on the list of devices but cannot see under computer or use it.
Yes, because you must create a partition and format everything first before you can use and it s listed under computer.

Here's a very nice guide how to use the Windows disk management feature to create the partition, format the drive, etc.

    Hello
I wanted to update my SP2100 with a WD1200BEVE. (120 GB of WD).

Copy of disk via USB + speakers worked, but after changing the disc nine does not start: the laptop hangs up with blinking cursor.
Already checked that the partition is active and even a new installation from a CD of XP has the same result! The BIOS seems to accept the drive (if not installing via CD should have failed) so where is the problem?

    Any tips?

    Hi Kannengiesser,

Which is really strange that you can t start up disk even it s recognized in BIOS correctly...

You have the Toshiba Recovery disk? If so, you can try this disc factory settings. If it works, it was just an installation problem.

But I couldn't imagine also that the new HARD drive is not working properly last week I had a similar problem. Made a HARD drive upgrade, but a few days later Windows didn't start because the HARD drive had a bad sector, now I'm waiting for a replacement drive.

  • Satellite M30X-165: new HARD drive does not work

Hi, I want to replace the old hard drive, HITACHI 80 GB in my Satellite M30X 165. I bought SEAGATE Momentus 5400.3 120GB but it seems that it may not be recognized by the BIOS. Anyone know what to do or what types of discs can be used in this notebook? Thanks for help.

    Hello

Sometimes a bios update has solved many issues about installing new hardware.

BUT Please note: the Bios has a limitation of size of HARD drive support. Not all sizes are supported. I guess that the 120 GB are too big and therefore you can not use it!

You must switch to a smaller size. Check with a 80 or 100 GB HARD drive

Hello, my parents computer came RAM volume0 has failed and not be able to start. We went and brought a new hard drive, and its always say the same thing. Any ideas?

A message on the RAID 0 volume failed is a recognizable error message, but the news is not good.

RAID, by its nature, requires 2 or more drives.  RAID = redundant Bay of independent (or inexpensive) disks

RAID 0 is the worst of the different RAID choices.  It increases the performance of hard disk by spreading or striping, data on two disks so that he can read and write more quickly. Unfortunately, such a picture offers no protection of data - in fact, it increases the chances of loss of data since the failure of a disk in the array results in the loss of all data on both drives. RAID 0 configurations are standard on high-end and PCs graphics games and provide a performance gain measurable, albeit modest for games, graphics applications and other programs intense from the hard drive.

In view of the foregoing, the best course of action for you and your parents is to take the computer to a local computer professional - not a type of place BigBoxStoreUSA or GeekSquad.

  • Cannot install windows XP it said hard drives are not connected & windows can not find the hard drives

I got an asus computer notebook windows vista, upgrade from vista to windows 7, now I'm not able to do a clean install of windows xp, when I try to install XP, it says that hard drives are not connected & windows cannot find not the hard drives, so once again installed windows 7, is there a way to overcome this problem Why do I get the message windows xp does not detect hard drives? I even formatted the hard drive & tried to install Xp, but still, I get the same message.

    The answers will be appreciated...

    Thank you

Because the Windows XP installation CD does not have the necessary disk controller drivers.  You will need a floppy drive to provide the drivers of controller for the installation program, or you will need to burn a CD of Windows XP with the controller drivers slipstreamed into the installation.  A CD of Windows XP with SP2 included may have the necessary drivers.

  • Warranty void installed new HARD drive, but I still have the original?

    Hello

I recently installed a new 200GB Hitachi HARD 7200 RPM drive on my laptop, I know that my warranty will be cancelled, but as I still have the original HDD safe and sound, the guarantee will still defend if say... the technicians were to come round to fix my laptop due to an unrelated issue, but see that the HARD drive has been upgraded; they will always fix the laptop even after I show them as the original? It's a long shot I know, but the 40 GB of HARD disc that came with the laptop only leave me little room after installation of Vista.

At my upgrade COMPLETELY canceled my claim to the guarantee? Even if I just say... come back and install the original HARD drive in my system, just before the technicians come to my house? But that would be the same as if say... I just show the technician the original HDD on arrival while having the HDD Upgrade inside the laptop.

A bit confusing, I know, but I'm in a quandary, because the guys from Toshiba are set to come around my place to watch my laptop under warranty, and I fear that they will fix my phone because I upgraded to a better HD and faster.

Thank you very much, I hope someone answers.

    Hi Mohin

I would like to try to clarify your question.
The guarantee will be cancelled, if you you disassemble the laptop.
I imagine that the laptop was equipped with a HDD slot at the bottom of the unit and you have to delete only one screw to remove the small cache connector HARD drive. Am I wrong?
So in this case the upgrade of components such as the memory or the HARD drive will not avoid the warranty.

But it s a good idea to keep the old HDD that were shipped with the laptop.

    Best regards

  • Satellite M30x - new HARD drive does not work

    Hello.

I am installing a new ATA 2.5 "internal hard drive for my Toshiba M30X-166. The drive is a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 120 GB model. The laptop does not recognize the disc and no related error message appears, and in the BIOS, it shows as "HD not available."

I put this drive in an external USB - IDE enclosure and was detected by my desktop PC, and I was able to partition and format the Momentus, so I know the drive is indeed work, but my M30X still does not detect the drive.

What can I do to make the laptop recognize this unit? The BIOS M30X is: Phoenix EAL20 version 1.90.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello!

Have you tried another HARD drive? The new HARD drive is may not compatible with the laptop or does work does not correctly.

Normally, a 120 GB HARD drive should work because the laptop has a limitation of LBA 28 bits and so you can only use hard drives 120 GB.
In the worst cases, the HARD disk on the motherboard controller is defective :(

    Good bye

  • Re: Tecra 9100 - new HARD drive is not detected

I have a Toshiba Harddisk provide a Tecra 9100. Checking the BIOS it shows "Enhanced IDE", but you are trying to boot from the disc does not work HARD. Even trying to install a new operating system present, that the HARD drive is not detected.
From the laptop is also very long.
    Any idea?

Your new HARD drive is larger than 120 GB? The HARD disk controller supports the 28-bit LBA and large drives as 120 GB will not be recognized by the BIOS.

What you mean with Enhanced IDE? The BIOS recognizes the new HARD drive with model number?

  • Satellite P300 (PSPCCA-05Y01Y) - HARD drive does not

I bought my laptop in New Zealand and now I am in India, last week my laptop suddenly stopped working after I tried to open it up to clean the heatsink (the fact is that I did not open the folder completely, I removed the RAM, HDD, battery and screws, while I tried to open it it doesn't move so didn't want to take any chances so I replaced everything as it was and it) closed).

Later, when I press the power button it lights up with the HARD disk after disk HARD 2 seconds, but power was still not display either!
Need help to fix, I took it to a repair center and they told me that the problem was with the motherboard and replace costs a lot. You are looking for an alternative solution.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

    Hello ralu

I hope that you will understand me when I say that on this path, we can only speculate what may be the problem and nobody here can offer an accurate diagnosis for your problem.

Fact is that laptop is removable 1000 times and when it is made on the right track, it should work properly. The HARD drive can also be removed several times, but it takes work if there is no problem with connectors on HARD drive or HARD drive itself.

If the HDD doesn't work I see here two reasons only: is troublemaker HDD or there is a problem with the HARD drive on the motherboard connector. What you think the problem may be?

  • How to install Windows without recovery disc - Satellite A660 with new HARD drive

    Hey,.

Portable 500 GB HDD of my friend Toshiba Satellite A660 seems to have died.
I tied him to my laptop on a sata dock and runs a data recovery program because nothing has been saved. The recovery takes forever, however, and she really needs his computer to work.

Because the hard disk may be damaged in any case, I am considering buying a new hard drive and install in the Toshiba.

How can I do this without a recovery disk, though?
The old drive was a partition recovery on it, I think, but this seems useless with a new drive.
Operating system is Windows 7 64 bit home edition.

The product key is on the bottom of the laptop.
I live in Turkey and so I don't think there is a Toshiba store is close.
There are individual computer stores, so I'm confident, I can buy a new internal hard drive (I could find the sata dock here), but he must know what to do to install the software, etc.

    Thank you!
    Chris

    > How can I do this without a recovery disk, though?

You either have the recovery disk or you are going to install the system using the Microsoft Windows disk.
The necessary drivers are in internet on Toshiba UE page.

The recovery disc can also be ordered here:

  • Satellite L500 Support, new hard drive

    Hey,.

So basically a few weeks a power surge overloaded my hard drive,

Unfortunately I lost my receipt so I could not ask for warranty and has to go to a repair shop.

If the repairs were fine, no drama.

But basically, rather before where I'm sure I had vista installed, they have installed Windows 7,

But the problem is that I've lost just some of the features, like built-in webcam Center, so I can't use my webcam and my habit of usb ports seem to work. As I plugged in a usb mouse and I don't even recognize it, it is not even appear in the Device Manager.

Is there something I can do? I don't know if restoring the factory settings will work, because I have a completely new hard drive.

    Hi mate

The webcam software can be downloaded from the page of European driver of Toshiba.
If install you this software, then you will get back the features of webcam.
In addition, the webcam software does not depend on the model of laptop. I could install the Win 7 webcam software out for L500 on my Satellite A210.
So please check it should work.

Generally, the USB port should be recognized automatically without having to install additional drivers. The driver is part of the Windows 7 operating system.

But you should also try to install the Intel chipset utility.
It should allow for the USB ports also works.

  • Can't reinstall XP service pack 3 on the new hard drive, will not cross of EULA

Computer VOstro 220 (Dell) under the age of 18 months. Internal HD died and was replaced two weeks ago with a HD internal 320, the speed of 7200 Western Digital. (Micro Center, a computer store large installed the HD that I bought at the store)

I used the OEM "reinstall Windows XP service Pack 3" DVD.  With F12 I put the computer to boot from the DVD.

DVD boots, I chose the option to install the OS

Fisrt I see the message that the program checks the material. No error message

Then I see the screen with the words "Windows Setup". Five minutes later, Microsoft EULA (end-user contract) is displayed.  IT does not scroll, I used the arrow keys on the keyboard to get at the end of the EULA was waiting for some kind of "type option"I agree". But there is nothing.

Nothing more happens. No additional configuration.

What is the problem? What should I do to get the Windows XP installation to continue?

Why not install the operating system?

Anywhere between 5 and 20% (depending on the production) new hard disks are defective. Test your drive with the factory utility.
