Satellite A200-1VL upgraded to 3 GB of Ram - Question

Hello world

When I bought my Satellite A200 1 VL, I got 2 GB of ram (1 + 1). Then I bought a 2 GB of ram and now I have 3 GB (1 + 2). And my Vista runs without problem.

My problem is (not sure if it is a problem or not) I see that my computer is using minimum 33% (~ 1 GB) memory instantly. I did not understand the principle of operation.
I think that 1 GB of memory allocated for video RAM because there is a graphical improvement while playing games (like Crysis).

Can someone explain how it works and if my computer needs more than 2 GB of memory so it uses remaining 1 GB for this purpose?

And what I need to adjust the score for RAM?

Thank you..

> so means my 32-bit vista will never use 1 GB of ram as a ram memory or will it be a kind of shared memory?
This is right. Vista or any OS that supports 32-bit will be able to handle only 3.2 GB

    Hello

I want to upgrade my CPU.
Currently a T2080 is installed and I would like to install a T7300?

Can someone tell me if this is possible with my motherboard?

The mother Board has the following features:
    Intel 940GML/943GML (Calistoga-GML) + ICH7-M / U
Portable ID model: Satellite A200-1AS (PSAE0E)

Does anyone have a list with all CPU running with this motherboard?

    Thanks for help.

    Hello

Have you read that some threads here in the forum on the CPU upgrade opportunities?
    Do this!

Always is it that upgrading the CPU is not easy for example on desktop computers.
The BIOS is always different and modified by the manufacturers of cell phones.
So even if the chipset allows you to upgrade the CPU, there is a question whether BIOS would deal with this new processor. If these upgrades are always risky.

The laptop uses the Mobile Intel 943GML Chipset

To check what processors are therefore supported by the chipset:
    http://www.Intel.com/assets/PDF/datasheet/309219.PDF

Here on page 30, you can find this:
+ All features supported by Mobile Intel 940GML / GM Express Chipset must be supported.
+ Chipset Intel 943GML Express unless otherwise stated below. +

    _ Support for processor + _
    + Intel® processor A100 and A110 on 90 nm process with 512 KB L2 Cache 400 - MHz +.
+ front side bus (FSB) support +.

Then you should check what are the processors supported by Intel 940GML

  • Satellite A200 - 23P - upgrading to Windows 7

About 2 years ago, I bought laptop Toshiba Satellite A200 - 23P with Windows Vista perinstalled. Now I want to upgrade to Windows 7. I download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, he wrote that:

    1) more info at TOSHIBA TOSHIBA has a Web site that might give you more information on getting Windows 7 on your PC. Visit the TOSHIBA Web site
(I have not found information on your web site on the updated issues)

And information on the TOSHIBA software as: Disc Creator, DVD player, Config Freeetc... that they "don't have information of compatibility on this version of the program.

I want to know is - this security upgrade to Windows 7? I have to make some preparations or sth like that? Or is it better to stay right on Vista).

    THX.

    Hey,.

I know, on the official website of Toshiba, is there no more information about the Windows 7 upgrade because this Windows 7 upgrade offer has already ended a few months ago.

Before an upgrade or new installation, check on the Web from Toshiba site, if all drivers and tools are available for your laptop.
If so, the upgrade should t be a problem, but I would have preferred a clean install. Correctly, it will work more smooth the upgrade version instead.

  • Satellite A200 PSAF3A - upgrade the hard drive - data retention?

    Hello

I am working on a Toshiba Satellite A200 PSAF3A with a dying 160 GB Fujitsu 5400 RPM SATA drive installed.
I would like to replace the hard drive 400 GB 5400 RPM SATA drive in a car with a Fujitsu and transfer any existing information on it. I noticed that there is a standard C:\, a System Volume of Toshiba and a HDDRecovery partition on the current drive.

Can someone tell me if this is possible by using disk imaging software? If so, what are the issues could meet? (eg. new player will only recognize the old C:\ partition size etc.)

I have already created a backup of the drive image and all 3 partitions (as she made a lot of noise and possibly at its output) using shadow protect Desktop
Toshiba HDDRecovery & the System Volume partitions don't show in SPDesktop as the affected drive letters, so I don't know if I can restore using this program. Everyone has used successfully to achieve this result?

    pus
I also have a Ultimate Boot CD for Windows here, and have successfully used the Roadkills Disk Copy with a SATA Adapter USB to copy a C:\ on a laptop in the past. It would be a better approach? I was thinking of using this method because it must copy all 3 partitions, then just use GParted to resize C:\ to fill the rest of the available HARD disk space.

    Thanks in advance :)

  • Satellite A200-130: Upgrade the RAM to 4 GB but Vista 32bits see only 3.1 GB

I just bought my laptop Satellite A200-130 memory 2 * 2 GB and trendy bars, but if I see the size of the total as memory is 4096 MB, on Windows Vista Home Edition (32 bit), in the BIOS, I can see only 3.1 GB.

I checked on the Toshiba site and it states that the laptop can take up to 4096 MB, so can any please tell me how to fix this problem?

Why 3. 1 GB shows, instead of 4 GB?

Have you read or heard something about 32-bit limitation of Windows?

    Isn't it?
Well, I advise to use google and search for it.
It turns out that all 32-bit Windows operating systems can see only 3 GB of RAM

In addition, you can find some details in the Microsoft Knowledge base.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite A200 - Win 8.1: Mass storage controller yellow question mark

    Hello

After the installation of win 8.1 in old Toshiba A200 - everything is ok except the yellow question mark in "Mass storage controller" in Device Manager. So the sd card reader is useless.

Have an idea that is the driver for Win 8.1?

    Hello

Please don't get me wrong, but I hope you know how old is A200. Even more recent machines are not supported for Win8.
So, I can understand that you want to use newer OS on this old piece of hardware and if most of the stuff works pretty well, you should be satisfied.
In this case when you use 8 years machine designed for Vista and certainly not taken in charge for Win8/Win8.1... who cares about SD card reader. You know what I mean? ;)

Just disable the device in Device Manager and be happy.

  • Satellite P100-286 - upgrade to 4 GB of RAM but BIOS only reports 3 GB of RAM

Hello, I would like to know if someone can help me...!

I have a portable P100-286 Toshiba with the following specifications:

    Processor Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7200 - 2 x 2 GHz processor
    2 GB RAM (2 x 1048)
NVIDIAÃ? GeForce Go 7900 (memory: 512 MB)
    Vista Home Premium 32-bit

    Full specifications here:

According to this specification, the laptop can handle up to 4 GB of RAM:

    "Memory system: standard: 2 048 (1, 024 + 1, 024) MB, maximum of extension: 4 096 Mo, technology: DDR2 (533 MHz) RAM.

I just upgraded using 2 x Corsair 2 GB of RAM Sodimm DDR2 667 MHz/PC2-5300. I understand that Vista 32 bit may not report all 4 GB of RAM (it is not, only 3 GB reports), but I understand that Vista Service Pack 1 can solve the problem.

However... confusedly BIOS ALSO notes that 3 GB of RAM. Does anyone know why the BIOS is not seen all the 4 GB? I tried to read about it online, and some advocate a BIOS update. However, many people also say it would be extremely risky.

Can someone give me some ideas as to what I can do to the BIOS then it recognizes all the 4 GB of RAM?

    Thank you very much!

You're not 100% good. The 32-bit Windows OS cannot use the entire 4 GB due to the limitation of the 32-bit operating system. After the installation of Vista SP1 will display full 4GB but it will still use only 3 GB.
To use all of the 4 GB, different components like CPU, BIOS, OS and chipset must support this. If one of these doesn't support 4GB while the laptop components will use only 3 GB.

    Update the BIOS

People are right. The update of the BIOS must help to recognize the 4 GB in the BIOS.
But it s also good that the update of the BIOS is risky.
If you want to use a bad BIOS or bad procedure to update the BIOS that can damage the ROM. module

  • Satellite U400 PSU44E - upgrade to 8 GB of RAM

    Hello

I want to improve my knees to 8 GB mem.
There are two locations for modules of memory on the MB.
On the Toshiba site its written that a module can be improved.

    Memory modules are 1,2,4,8,16...
How you can reach up to 8 GB of Ram when only a single slot can be improved.

Reminder: the system comes with 3 GB of RAM:

    System memory
    3 072 (2 048 + 1 024) MB | maximum extension: 8 192 MB | technology: DDR2 RAM (800 MHz)

    Thank you & best regards

    Hello

First of all, there are 2 memory slots that are extensible.
Secondly if your chipset would support the 8 GB of RAM then you use modules of 2 x 4 GB of RAM for the 8 GB of RAM.

In addition the 8 GB of RAM can be recognized by the 64 bit OS.
The 32-bit Vista will not recognize the 8 GB of RAM but only 3.2 GB due to the limitation of the 32 bit OS!

    Greetings

    Hello

    I have Toshiba Satellite A200-13O, with (512 + 512) GB of ram.
I want to change the ram to 2 GB, but I can not find the same type of ram.

Is it possible to change it with any type or not?

    Hello

You must use the DDR2 667 MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM memory modules. Usually it s any manufacturing of RAM is. It is only important that you use the memory right modules that support the right specifications.

By the way; You can also order the right bar of the ASP from Toshiba. Simply contact the ASP technician and ask about compatible parts.

  • Re: Can Satellite A200-14 - I switch the RAM to 4 GB?

    1. my laptop "Satellite A200-14" series has 2.048 MB RAM. How much does it cost to improve to 4,096 MB RAM?
    2. can you change the RAM yourself?

    Thank you
    Johannes

    Hello!

I put t know how much it costs to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM. This according to the modules that you can buy and where buy you it.
Upgrade the RAM, you need modules with DDR2 (667 MHZ) specification.

And change the RAM is quite easy. Consult your user manual, you can find instructions and pictures how to do this. ;)

  • Graphics memory shared in a Satellite A200-1CK

Hello, I have a Satellite A200-1CK which has 2 GB of RAM and 256 MB graphics memory shared.

is there a way to check how my phone is currently using this 256 MB and you can manually change this?

for example, to define graphics for always using 128 MB memory if the laptop needs or not?

I already checked with google and I found a few sites that say you can change something like that in the BIOS but I can't find.

    Thank you

    Jeroen

    Hello

When I try to play a game that requires 128 MB graphic memory it does not even start. In theory I should be able to play the game, since I have enough memory. Or is it fake? Shared memory is perhaps not as real graphic memory. Can someone explain?

There are different reasons why starting a game doesn t.
Maybe a graphics driver is not compatible?
Generally shared memory graphics cards are not really designed for games. Of course, some older games would go but with the games recent very strong graphics cards needs.

I agree with alphaleader. Shared memory will be allocated automatically. She shared max value depends on the amount of installed RAM memory.

  • Don't play age of Empires 3 on the Satellite A200-1DN

    Hello
I have a Satellite A200-1dn with 1.5 GB of ram and an intel gma 950 / 945gm express chipset family.
The problem is that the age of empires 3 requires a minimum of 64 MB of video ram. Mine is 32 MB.
I've heard from the dvmt (dynamic video memory technology) and I was wondering is anyone know how to change it to the max?
I heard that you can change CMOS, anyone know how to acess cmos? My bios version is 1.30. max dvmt may go up to 224 MB of video ram, that would be great.

    Please answer soon, thx

    Hello

Generally, a user must read the MANUAL before asking these questions. But while you already here I can tell you how to access:

Press F2 right after the power of the machine (when you see the toshiba logo) whereas there should be the option you want / need.

Did you already check if you have the latest version of the bios installed? It would be a good idea to do so:

Hope you can get more video ram, my friend :)
