Satellite A200 - 23P - upgrading to Windows 7

About 2 years ago, I bought laptop Toshiba Satellite A200 - 23P with Windows Vista perinstalled. Now I want to upgrade to Windows 7. I download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, he wrote that:

1) more info at TOSHIBA TOSHIBA has a Web site that might give you more information on getting Windows 7 on your PC. Visit the TOSHIBA Web site
(I have not found information on your web site on the updated issues)

And information on the TOSHIBA software as: Disc Creator, DVD player, Config Freeetc... that they "don't have information of compatibility on this version of the program.

I want to know is - this security upgrade to Windows 7? I have to make some preparations or sth like that? Or is it better to stay right on Vista).

THX.

Hey,.

I know, on the official website of Toshiba, is there no more information about the Windows 7 upgrade because this Windows 7 upgrade offer has already ended a few months ago.

Before an upgrade or new installation, check on the Web from Toshiba site, if all drivers and tools are available for your laptop.
If so, the upgrade should t be a problem, but I would have preferred a clean install. Correctly, it will work more smooth the upgrade version instead.

I've read all the other different threads around the upgrade/downgrade to XP, but I have a few questions.

    1. What do I need to change the BIOS before I start to replace Vista by XP or can I wait until I loaded the base XP and then make the BIOS change?

    2. If I try and update the BIOS for XP and it crunches the laptop is covered by the warranty?

If the 2 answer is Yes, then I'll save a step by step process that I do to change the operating system from Vista to XP. Any help much appreciated.

    Hello Ken

All I know is some BIOS designed for Windows XP Home edition for computer series laptop Satellite A200. I installed Windows XP Home edition on my A200 but some FN keys do not work properly. Other stuff works well and WXP turns quite quickly.

I recommend installing WXP without updated BIOS to see if there is a serious problem. If this is not the case, leave such BIOS what.

  • Satellite A200-1YO - problems installing Windows XP Home edition

    Hi guys,.

First of all I'm new here so Hello to everyone here and I hope you can help me with my problems of software.

I recently bought a laptop model Toshiba Satellite A200-1YO provided with windows vista (which must be frank, pants and IMO too demanding for the machine) and I have a problem with vista, because some of its features do not seem to work, for example, I'm having a lot of trouble getting some of the webpages to open now, they simply hang out.

now, I didn't install windows xp but I don't have an external floppy drive. This is not a problem but because I can use Nlite to integrate the drivers in a new ISO of Windows XP.

The problem is that I have 4 sets of drivers: ICH7M_32bit, ICH7M_64bit, ICH8M_32bit and ICH8M_64bit. As I install Windows XP 32-bit while I'm more or less some that I have not need 64-bit drivers but when I install Windows XP by using the modified version of windows xp slipstreamed, what I get at startup is a BSD error telling me that something has crashed on my hard drive , however I can't say which crashed as the screen disappears after 15 seconds if that so I guess there is something wrong with the drivers I use (though I must admit that I'm not sure the drivers 32-bit to use)

advice and assistance regarding being able to install windows xp would be welcome, as I said above, however, I can only use Nlite since I do not have a usb floppy drive.

Satellite A200-1YO has a chip with the ICH8M southbridge Intel GM965.

So you need the driver for SATA ICH8M_32bit.

  • Satellite A200 (PSAE6) - RAM on Windows 7 32 bit upgrade

I have a Satellite A200 (PSAE6) and I wanted to put more 2 GB of RAM, but tell me the Windows 7 Ultimate 32 recognizes only 1 GB means a total of 3 GB.

    Is this true?

    Hello

Usually the OS 32-bit Windows recognizes ONLY 3.2 GB of RAM due to the limitation of the 32 bit OS.
Therefore, you cannot use 4 GB of RAM with Windows OS 32-bit (Win XP, Vista, Win 7).

But the upgrade to 4 GB RAM also depends on the chipset and BIOS.
If both parties (BIOS and chipset) are not 4 GB RAM capable then you would not be able to use 4 GB of RAM, even using the 64 bit OS.

    Hey there.

    I currently own Toshiba Satellite A200 - 1 M 8. Windows XP Professional SP3
I read your newsletter support and accordingly, I can see that you recommend backup of files and etc... through the integrated Windows XP Backup utility.

    1. you say that this tool backup software applications, but some sites record it as he does.

    2. If I want to make a backup of Windows XP, and it includes a driver not compatible with Windows 7, made restore this backup throughtout the tool in

    Concerning

    Hello

To be honest, your ad is a little hard to understand and I don t know what you mean exactly.

The built-in backup tool of XP can save all the directories you want if you choose advanced options. But this tool isn't so comfortable; You can access the data on a running system. More comfortable are Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image in my opinion.

You can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. That's why you need to do a clean install and therefore you don't need a backup.
Just copy your important files like photos, music, etc. on an external HARD drive. All that s! After installing Windows 7, you can copy on the laptop.

  • Satellite A200 - 23P - mechanic of DVD - rom does not

I'm sorry for my English in advance this topic! -Thank you

I have a very big problem with my engraver of DVD (RM).
    I bought SAT A200 - 23P three weeks ago.
The Win VISTA operating system has been installed. DVD - rom worked well.

If I have installed Win XP to the second partition on my HARD drive (to install the disk with driver for sata drive in nlite) and installed all the drivers and utilities for Toshiba laptop, I found that my DVD-rom is not working while I press eject button.

Mechanic of DVD is not responding to eject in XP and not even in the BIOS!
It is interesting, mechanic DVD is the detection in BIOS, detects in XP, XP operating system votes - mechanic to the DVD works properly - its fable.

However, if I have installed XP on the second partition, Win Vista does not load :(
I don't have a second chance for second selection (Vista and XP).
I now have XP only, even if Vista is on the first partition - I didn't delete it.

Do you think that the DVD-rom is HW or SW problem?
I think that, given that the DVD-rom does not in the BIOS - HW error.

But is very strange, if I install XP from mechanic to the DVD and then close is, DVD - rom does not...:)

If I manually open and insert the CD, the DVD does not (diode led no blink, just if I turn off the computer, led blinked once).

    PLS help me someone-

    Thank you!

    Hi Michal

Your question is very strange, I mean the number of CD/DVD drive

The fact is that the readers of CD/DVD eject function functions should any operating system has been installed on your laptop. It has nothing to do with your software on the HARD drive.

So I wonder why the eject button works with Vista and not XP preinstalled OS?  :|

My only plausible explanation is that sometimes there is a bad connection between the laptop and the drive. However the problem could be related to the hardware problem too

As you see it s not easy to say what's wrong exactly, we can only speculate.

Now some details about your installation of OS double.

You cannot choose between Windows XP and Vista because Vista boot manager was obliterated during the installation of Win XP.
This happened to me also. I installed Win XP on my Satellite and could not start Vista.

The solution was simple; I used another original DVD of Vista (from my friend) and booted from this DVD. Vista has renewed the Boot Manager, and then I was able to boot Vista.

Then I downloaded the tool called Easy BCD.
This tool can change the Vista Boot Manager settings. I've edited and inserted a new Windwos XP OS entry.

    That s it!

  • Equium A200 Vista upgrade to Windows 7

Want to know if it's OK to upgrade Equium A200 with Vista to Windows 7
I ran the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It lists several Toshiba applications and/or drivers with the comment "we have no information on this version of the program compatibility. It usefully links to the site of Toshiba Windows 7 Upgrade and finally at this link.

    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/KBA9A02PX0000R01.htm

"For the Toshiba PC models listed below, Toshiba provides support 'Limited pilot' on a new installation of the operating system Microsoft Windows 7.

    No Equium model is listed.
That hell "limited support" means in what concerns the Equium A200 + Windows 7. IOW, is it OK to upgrade to Windows 7?

    TIA,
    Peter

    > That on Earth "limited support" means in what concerns the Equium A200 + Windows 7. IOW, is it OK to upgrade to Windows 7?

This means that not all or no drivers Win 7 for models that are not included in the list would be released.
There are two possibilities to install win 7.

-You can do a clean install.
This means to format the entire HARD drive and reinstalling Windows 7 on a fresh formatted partition or HARD drive.
In this case, you will need to install all the drivers

-You can do an update from Win Vista to Win 7
In this case that would be installed Windows 7 over Vista and that provide a benefit. Vista installed drivers (not all but a lot) can be used by Win 7.
As you know, many Vista drivers are compatible with Win 7 and it is why some Vista drivers can work on Win 7.

  • Re: Satellite A200: Question about the Windows Vista serial key

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 and I doubt, in everest, I can see the key of Windows Vista, but it's different to the Windows key in the tile to the bottom of the laptop.
I change anything in the laptop because I bought, I have use once the recovery cd, but I have not a pirate key or something like that.

    Why this different key?

    Post edited by: Admin

I agree with the user above.
The serial key you will find at the bottom of the device is not similar to the serial key that can be read using a few 3rd party applications!

But you don t need such series on your Toshiba laptop key.
The restore CD contains an image of Toshiba which is already activated!

  • Satellite Pro 4320 - upgrade to Windows XP Home edition

I have a 'standard' of Satellite Pro 4320 and plans the upgrade from Windows 2000 to XP - either domestic or professional. Y at - it advice on the problems or things to watch I'm likely to encounter?

    Hi Graham,

Only problem you may have is that the Toshiba utilities were all designed for Windows 2000 and may not work properly with XP. Downloads available for your laptop have only an update of the BIOS for XP.

Obviously XP contains device and utility drivers much more generic, so you may find that your system will work very well with the latter. Similarly, you can see that install the original Toshiba utility will work also. I have no definitive evidence either way.

You can also find you would benefit to increase the RAM since XP uses rather than previous operating systems.

  • Satellite A200 - CPU Upgrade possible?

    Hello

I want to upgrade my CPU.
Currently a T2080 is installed and I would like to install a T7300?

Can someone tell me if this is possible with my motherboard?

The mother Board has the following features:
    Intel 940GML/943GML (Calistoga-GML) + ICH7-M / U
Portable ID model: Satellite A200-1AS (PSAE0E)

Does anyone have a list with all CPU running with this motherboard?

    Thanks for help.

    Hello

Have you read that some threads here in the forum on the CPU upgrade opportunities?
    Do this!

Always is it that upgrading the CPU is not easy for example on desktop computers.
The BIOS is always different and modified by the manufacturers of cell phones.
So even if the chipset allows you to upgrade the CPU, there is a question whether BIOS would deal with this new processor. If these upgrades are always risky.

The laptop uses the Mobile Intel 943GML Chipset

To check what processors are therefore supported by the chipset:
    http://www.Intel.com/assets/PDF/datasheet/309219.PDF

Here on page 30, you can find this:
+ All features supported by Mobile Intel 940GML / GM Express Chipset must be supported.
+ Chipset Intel 943GML Express unless otherwise stated below. +

    _ Support for processor + _
    + Intel® processor A100 and A110 on 90 nm process with 512 KB L2 Cache 400 - MHz +.
+ front side bus (FSB) support +.

Then you should check what are the processors supported by Intel 940GML

  • Satellite A200 PSAF3A - upgrade the hard drive - data retention?

    Hello

I am working on a Toshiba Satellite A200 PSAF3A with a dying 160 GB Fujitsu 5400 RPM SATA drive installed.
I would like to replace the hard drive 400 GB 5400 RPM SATA drive in a car with a Fujitsu and transfer any existing information on it. I noticed that there is a standard C:\, a System Volume of Toshiba and a HDDRecovery partition on the current drive.

Can someone tell me if this is possible by using disk imaging software? If so, what are the issues could meet? (eg. new player will only recognize the old C:\ partition size etc.)

I have already created a backup of the drive image and all 3 partitions (as she made a lot of noise and possibly at its output) using shadow protect Desktop
Toshiba HDDRecovery & the System Volume partitions don't show in SPDesktop as the affected drive letters, so I don't know if I can restore using this program. Everyone has used successfully to achieve this result?

    pus
I also have a Ultimate Boot CD for Windows here, and have successfully used the Roadkills Disk Copy with a SATA Adapter USB to copy a C:\ on a laptop in the past. It would be a better approach? I was thinking of using this method because it must copy all 3 partitions, then just use GParted to resize C:\ to fill the rest of the available HARD disk space.

    Thanks in advance :)

  • Satellite A200 restarts continuously after Windows update

    Hey all,.

The model Satellite A200 - 1 GB (PSAE6E) worked perfectly for two years now (with Vista 32-bit).
Since running windows update yesterday and restart, the laptop summer stuck in a reboot loop, restart immediately after the 'POST' (the Toshiba logo, etc) screen with a flash of blue screen.
Holding F8 to read the message, it says INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE (0x000007B)...
Try to restore to a point before the blackout failed for an unknown reason (gave an error).
Search in Google gave a possible cause - maybe the hard disk driver was changed by an incompatible type. There were some suggestions to turn off the AHCI in the bios, but it doesn't have this option.
The bios was not updated since purchase (this is version 1.4), but I can't update because it seems that the only update provided by Toshiba requires windows.

Someone has any idea how to fix the computer without having to reinstall windows? No matter what?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ofir

    Hello

I doubt that it could be a hardware error (my personal opinion) but nothing is impossible, that you know
The fact is that a BSOD can be caused by hardware error, but also a serious software problem
In my opinion, something went wrong during the update

If you are not able to boot the operating system even by using a safe mode then a new install of the OS would be the last chance to get this sort problem

I think you should try a new installation to see if this could be a hardware problem because there is a small remnant of risk that this could be a hardware problem

  • Satellite A200-130: Upgrade the RAM to 4 GB but Vista 32bits see only 3.1 GB

I just bought my laptop Satellite A200-130 memory 2 * 2 GB and trendy bars, but if I see the size of the total as memory is 4096 MB, on Windows Vista Home Edition (32 bit), in the BIOS, I can see only 3.1 GB.

I checked on the Toshiba site and it states that the laptop can take up to 4096 MB, so can any please tell me how to fix this problem?

Why 3. 1 GB shows, instead of 4 GB?

Have you read or heard something about 32-bit limitation of Windows?

    Isn't it?
Well, I advise to use google and search for it.
It turns out that all 32-bit Windows operating systems can see only 3 GB of RAM

In addition, you can find some details in the Microsoft Knowledge base.

  • Satellite A200 PSAECE - fan of Windows 7 (& BIOS)

    Dear community,

I installed the latest version of BIOS Toshiba offers for Windows Vista (v.1.80 21/08/07) and I'm running on Windows 7 on a Satellite A200 PSAECE.

The fan is very VERY strong. I've heard talk of a solution would be to return to a previous version of the BIOS but I can't find it anywhere.

No indication of how to proceed? Something must be done about it, cannot even bring the laptop to the cause of the library of people complain. (The fan was MUCH less noisy before...)

Go to the Windows 7 power management and change the settings of the most friendly battery.
There should also be an option that decrease the performance of the processor, and this could slow down the cooling performance.
