Satellite A30 seems to be overheating

Hello. I just read the previous posts about the A30 overheating and stop. Mine did the same thing. If someone could clarify, where are the vents for me to try vaccing - they are at the back by the power cable - these look quite clean. I need to open to ACCESS them?
If that doesn't work can not someone tell where I can go for repair, IE is there a list on the internet of the Toshiba certified service engineers?
Thank you very much

Hi Alison,.

The aspiration air on the A30 grids are in the bottom of the unit just behind the battery. There are two racks, and you use the hose of vacuum cleaner on each grid.

Kind regards

    I put the Max-performance cooling.
Is there another reason of overheating?

    Hi David,

Everything that hinders the free movement of air across the processor HEAT SINK cooling will have the effect you describe. The problem is that dust can not be seen by looking at the fan grids because she has built up inside the unit. The easy way to remove it is to use a vacuum cleaner hose from the cleaner to the grids of aspiration air (using a piece of cloth to maximize suction). This should make the fans running at very high speed and can produce a WAD of debris inside the grids you'll need to choose carefully.

To be really complete, you need to remove the radiator cover (adjacent to the grids of aspiration and locked by two "torx" screws). With the cover removed, you will be able to see the heat sink itself fixed by four Phillips head screws (two on each side), delete them and remove the heat sink. Note that it will stick to the CPU because of thermal paste used during Assembly. DO NOT REMOVE THE DOUGH. Once the heatsink is removed, you will be able to see an accumulation of debris.

Reassembly is the reverse of the uninstall, but note sequence on the heat sink numbers, so that you can tighten the screws in the correct order.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite A30, PC shutdown due to overheating of the CPU

My Satellite A30 has a new problem, the PC shuts down due to overheating.
Fans are set to Max Performance. The cooling fans are not blocked by dust.
I think that the CPU is overheating for some reason any.
Can someone explain what parameters can be modified to avoid this problem?
I also saw that the other Toshiba PC needed a BIOS upgrade, it will be necessary for the A30?

    Hello David

Your device is certainly full of dust and cannot be properly cooled. If I remember the unit has two vents on the lower part. The must be removed and cleaned properly.

Trust me on this machine, the dust is placed behind the fans and if you look they seems to be clean, but they are not. Contact the customer Service of your country partner. The cleaning procedure takes about 20-30 minutes. I can't imagine that it will be expensive.

    Good bye

  • Satellite A30-414: what processors are compatible?

Hello, I have a satellite a30-414 without the central unit and I don't know which cpu is able to use.
    Is the socket 478? 479?
    Should I use a P4M 2.4 Ghz or I can also use a P4M 2.0 as the SL6CL or 1.6 as the SL5YU?

    Thank you all.

    Hello

I studied in the net for details A30 and it seems that the following processors could be compatible.

Intel Celeron CPU up to 2.8 GHz (without HTT)
Intel Pentium 4 (NW) CPU up to 3.06 GHz (without HTT)
Intel Pentium 4 (NW) CPU to 3.2 GHz (with HTT)
CPU Intel Pentium 4 (Prescott) up to 3.46 GHz (with HTT)

But to my knowledge the Toshiba doesn't support any replacement of the CPU. That's why you get no guarantees that the laptop will only work stable after replacing the CPU.
You should consider overheating problems after upgrade CPU. The fact is that faster CPUS produce more heat and therefore increase the temperature.

  • Satellite A30 stops when you run Norton

Hello. I have a Satellite A30 which crashes when trying to run Norton.

Spec: Satellite A30, Win XP Home SP1, 512 MB RAM, 3 + Ghz processor.

We also noticed that the fan seems to be "fully enlightened", even when he's just sitting on the desktop with any of the applications that are running.

    Any ideas?

We noticed that there was a notification for install of XP SP2, so we clicked on that. He started to install, the fan is even harder, it crashed again and now there is no notification of XP SP2!

We are sure that this is a problem of overheating or battery, but we wonder what we can do about it.

I hope someone can help. Thank you.
    Nath.

    Hello Nath

As far as I know that satellite A30 is about two years old and agree to your description, I assume that the unit needs to be cleaned. I have Satellite P20, also more than two years, and for a short while I cleaned. You can't imagine how much dust was inside. I have a cat at home and I think half of the cat hair was inside.

After cleaning, the laptop can take a breath and it works more silent. Now, I am very satisfied. I can just recommend you to do the same.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite A30 shuts down / blocks

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Satellite A30 for about 2 years with no problems. Until today...

I was chatting on MSN Messenger, but had to put my missing status and left the computer for about an hour.

When I came back to it, the screen was all what it was when I left, but there was no control of the mouse, no whirring HARD drive away, not nothing. In fact, it seemed that he had closed the partitally without turning off the screen.

The only way I could reboot had to turn off the power. I disconnected the battery, reconnected everything and tried to reload. I don't even have as much as Logo of Toshiba screen, click on the HARD drive, * which is normal for this machine * and off.

I thought that maybe it was an overheating issue, then I left for half an hour and go home. This time it restarts, but the display was all out of sync. was on 800 x 600 when its usually on the following resolution. (Don't remember who he is). I ran dxdiag and he told me that there is no present display driver, as I had reloaded using the last well known record. It was not a problem, I reinstalled drivers, restarted without any problem.

Everything was fine for 2 h with the laptop, so at this point, I don't think it was a heat issue. I went through the net, when hung just computer still once, I lost all control of the mouse, even if the optical lights on it were always activate when moved, and he seemed to stop again.

Well, I left for 10 minutes, he came back and tried again, it started ok, but as soon as I tried to access anything, he hung up again, forcing me to press the power button to shut down.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but can anyone shed light on this point, I use my laptop on a daily basis, and there are things about it, as I need to access.

    I hope someone can help

    Thank you

    Hello

It is very interesting because it can happen to anyone. I really put t know which can block the laptop. On this way, we can only speculate and it is really not easy to say why this happens to concrete.

I put t know how is your unit configured and that these (process) applications run in the background, but you can try to stop all the unnecessary stuff and see what is happening in this case. Check the Device Manager and make sure that everything is properly recognized. After that create a system restore point and in this way you can restore the system to an earlier time if something goes wrong.

If you do not find what happens I recommend you back up the data and do the recovery procedure. On this way the unit will be own pre-installed and things like this can happen. As you know sometimes happen oddities and there is no logical explanation.

    Good luck!

  • Questions about various issues on a Satellite A30

OK, for starters, I don't know much about computers without talking about laptops, but my husband is "generally" with them, but now that we have major problems.

I have a Satellite A30 (not sure if he's a pro, because it does not mention it in the manual and Stephen is about to have a heart attack right now, and is not on the laptop so impossible to verify the BIOS).

Anyway. Problems began some time, in fact not long ago after that missed warranty. I bought it used and I loved it when I got it.

    Ok
Problem 1. -Overheating, we finally solved by it own every now and then, problem solved.

Problem 2. -USB 2.0. Some things work some don't. My Nikon camera does not work via USB but my Lumix made. My mobile struggles. Just buy a card reader, worked on the laptop of Stephen, but not the A30. Dongle Bluetooth does not work. All these elements, used to work.

Problem 3. -I can put my processor speed 1.6 GHz or 3.06 GHz. overheated really easily on 3.06 and tends to slow down and seems to be faster at 1, 6 GHz and not overheating on 1.6 end so keep on that. Although the pain. Even with extra under cooler portable computer fan base.

Problem 4. -Not that I'm an expert, but I think that my diet is missing. I still have my laptop plugged in about 90% of the time. I put the laptop on and it will use the power adapter for a while then goes on battery power. If the power adapter that was what it was, not the battery. Then when the battery reaches the end of its power, it's just going and I have to wait until she sees again until I can turn it back on. I find this very annoying.

PROBLEM 5. -As 2 days ago, there have been totally and absolutely kaput. Don't even connect. It also goes further than Windows XP start then an error message saying something about a lack. DLL file. Stephen said he has sorted that but has not solved the problem. We decided that it was only a hard drive problem so bought an external for she and Stephen case after 2 days managed to download everything from the laptop HARD drive. It's a 40gig HARD drive. Some files have been deformed and had to be removed so the thinking that was the problem so went out to buy a new but went for a 120gig. Formatted Stephen on his laptop and then went to transfer my A30 but the same problems. Now I wonder if 120Gig is too much. At the mo Stephen takes on his HARD drive to put in mine and vice versa. His laptop he's grateful as a 120GHz, but according to him, my BIOS is not very clear and does not tell you anything about it. As I said I know nothing about computers. I'm really clutching at straws here. Stephen was brought up on computers, but is more used for desktop computers and we decided to sell our laptops and buy a desk to update high spec but I doubt that I would get a lot of money now for my A30 if it does not work.

Any ideas would be useful to roll again.

Sorry for this thread may be so long but well that Stephen will not admit to it, he really needs help and I can try and give information, you help us.

BTW, I read in my manual that it can take up to 80Gig HARD drive but more important in the future, so we thought it would be nice with 120 now because they are available if this is any help to you.

    Hello

you have always guaranteed on this machine? If yes then TOMORROW bring to an authorized service partner.

Why? The problem is that this machine has a Pentium 4 that gets really hot, and if the cooling system is clobbed with dust, then cooling paste which transfers heat between the cpu and the cooling module dries and it cannot transfer heat with precision to the cooling module copper.

I suggest to go to a technician and advises him to exchange the cooling paste, really, it will trigger the stability of your system.

    Believe me. :)

The other thing with USB is: sometimes there is not enough power in the system and I guess that the problem is on the AC adapter. Buy a new adapter sector and you probably won´t have stability problems, USB and much more. I can't say for sure, but I solved a problem with a 2430 Satellite I've had and that's quite the same model like yours, it has just a few other colors, but the pattern is the same.

I had this problem of heat and I solved it by exchanging cooling paste, but then the machine was no more warranty, and I am somewhat familiar with computers.

I had problems with my AC too, but my mistake was another because he mades some noise and after a while, it stops working. Now, that system did not work properly and after exchanging the AC everything was good again.

With regard to the HARD drive: I can't talk about something because I use just a 60 GB drive. You'll find it probably our yourself or an experienced user here in the forum might help you.

I wish you good luck with your machine and a good weekend

    Welcome them
    Dennis

  • Satellite A30 - 303 unplanned shutdown?

    Hello world

I have a laptop Satellite A30-303. Somehow, independent programs open in Windows XP (Home, Pro edition, tried both), computer laptop unexpectedly shutw down, stop immediately. No message from windows, no errors of any kind, nothing, just the way it went.

It's very strange. I have read all of the instructions, did the bios update to 1.80 (dated Sep 15) and still the same thing.

Fact checking for viruses, all firewalls security and it did not help at all.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,
    Kind regards

    Hello Hakan

Please check that the machine not too much heat! The symptom you describe is exactly that of a machine overheating. Check if the fan is running continuously before stopping. Also check that there is no dust in the cooling of the machine module.

  • Satellite A30 product recovery CD

I need to restore the HD of Satellite A30 of my boy.
He gave me that one DVD 'product Recovery DVD-ROM'
He is also says "2/2", which I suppose that it is disk 2 of 2.

This DVD is not bootable. so I guess there could be a disk of 1/2 which is bootable and contains the basic recovery program.

My question: am reason above supported and if yes, where can we get the first DVD, since my boy seems to have lost it.

    Thanks for any help.

    Peter

    Hello

You are right! There must be a n ° 1/2 recovery DVDs!

If you (or your son) have lost it, you can order a new one for every Service Toshiba partner. You only have to sign a solemn declaration for MS that you have lost the CD!

To http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com when you go to the support & downloads you will find a list of partners of Service Toshiba!

  • Upgrade of RAM for Satellite A30 213

After buying my satellite second hand I immediately found why it was for sale, the dreaded overheating.
I cleaned the fans with compressed air and it worked fine, then my error fatal, flushed with success, I bought the RAM online and installed. It was recgonised by the system and I thought all was well until it has proved defective and crashed my operating system, no recovery was possible.

An operating system later new XP (and £50 poorer), I'm ready to have another go, but I can't open the user manual on the Toshiba site.

I want to get right to the RAM of a reputable suplier, but the specifications I have indicates only DDR RAM, does anyone know the full specification (pins etc) because I don't want to lose it all again?

    Hello

    Have a look here:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=7249&ft=m&St=3

You need the PC2100 200 pin SODIMM (266 MHz) DDR modules.
You can upgrade the Satellite A30 Ram up to 2 GB. This means that you can use the 2 x 1 GB module.

I had a good experience using modules from Kingston.

  • Satellite A30 - 203 - recovery disk does not work

    Hi all

I have an old Satellite A30-203 and have a problem. I tried to format my laptop but the product recovery cd does not seem to work in deletion the data on my disk, its becomes blocked during loading files of ntfs? Now I am not able to retrieve a windows session would I need a new product recovery cd and would be able to get it?

    Thank you

    Hi dimation,

It is difficult to say what is the reason of this but made is either it s a laptop problem itself or the recovery disc (e.g. scratches) causes this problem.

In my opinion the best way to check this using a Microsoft Windows disk. If the installation completed successfully, you need a new recovery disk. As a result, you can ask a service provider authorized in your country! :)

  • Satellite A30 generic fault

    Hello

I have four Toshiba Satellite A30 in the workshop at the moment and all have the same defect.

    The machines are:
    1 - satellite Pro A30
    2 - satellite A30
    3 - satellite A30 921
    4 - satellite A30-931

All four machines behave as follows:

Once the power adapter is connected to the power supply and charging the battery LED come. When the machines are turned on the battery charge LED goes out, they then continue to start, but it stops after a short time. A few times that I was able to boot into windows XP and checking the condition of the battery, the machine is running on battery power only, even if the AC adapter is plugged in. Meanwhile, power is on, but the battery charge LED is not.

After some research, this problem seems to be a common one, but I still have to find a solution.

Does anyone know a fix for this problem.

    You have enough old machines.
Do you use all of them with original AC adapters that you got with these machines, or maybe, do you tests with clean (Universal) adapter and test with each machine?

  • Satellite A30 - 151 - what memory module can use?

    Hello

I have TOSHIBA Satellite A30-151 with 768 MB of DDR1 memory.
I want to upgrade. What is the best memory that I can buy?

    the card says:
    Max 2 048 MB.

So, how many slots I? I can buy 2 x 1 Go DDR1-333 memory? Can it be more than 333 then?

    Thank you
    NIR.

    Hello

    It is really an oldie
As far as I know that you can upgrade the RAM up to 2 GB of RAM
The bus (FSB) front-end speed seems to support 533 Mhz and that's why you should be able to use the 533 Mhz RAM modules.

PS: The laptop must support 2 slots of memory if you are able to put 2 x 1 GB RAM
