  Looks like this Vista driver is not fully compatible with Win 2008 Server and therefore you receive and BSOD

  Seems you have to use this operating system without this special driver

  As far as I know this laptop Satellite A300D-15B was equipped with AMD chipset and therefore the SATA driver should be part of the ATI graphic driver.

  But you can also install the Win XP without the SATA drivers.
  In the BIOS, you will need to set the mode SATA from AHCI to compatible.

  Then you should be able to install Win XP on this laptop.

  As already suggested in this forum the Vista 64 bit drivers are not available for all Toshiba laptops.
  What you can do is to search on different websites for these drivers for Vista 64-bit.
  For example, you can search on the page Intel or Realtek.

  Chip manufacturers should provide 64-bit drivers too.

  I checked the Toshiba page and your model belongs to the PSAKCE series. So the Toshiba site doesn t show Windows 7 drivers for the moment. Maybe they will be soon released because each day more and more drivers for Windows 7 will be available.

  If you want you can try the drivers for a different model A300D. They may work because I don't see a big difference there.

  I put t know if the HARD drive is the reason for the slow performance. The Satellite A300D is normally very good laptop and quite fast for all applications.

  Have you tried to reinstall Windows using the Toshiba Recovery disk? Maybe the performance issue is software partners and so a reinstall of Windows would be very useful.

  Theoretically, you can pass the GPU if it is not integrated. However, Toshiba does not approve the Cpu/gpu upgrade:

  Fact the laptop start slowly or what?

  I think that you should not compare the speed of different specifications if the same software, the same operating system and the same applications were not installed.

  If Notepad starts slowly, then go to the msconfig-> Startup tab and disable some processes is not necessary.
  The background process may significantly slow down the books the boot process.
