Satellite A300D - upgrade Vista - "Setup.exe has stopped working".
I use Satellite A300D with Vista and I tried to upgrade to Windows 7 using Toshiba upgrader.
After the language selection and proceed to the other steps, it asks me to uninstall a bunch of programs. Some are uninstalled very well, but when it comes to four other programs he says "Setup.exe has stopped working" and it does not uninstall.
I tried to uninstall the manually, but I got the same message.
These programs are;
Setup driver Atheros
Toshiba hardware configuration
Toshiba supervisor password
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver
So I can't go ahead with the upgrade.
Anyone know what could be the problem?

Anyboday tried to run the upgrade as an administrator? Therefore, click on the setup.exe file on the upgrade disc and run it as an administrator.
Moreover I also upgraded from Vista to Windows 7, but in the manual supplied with the notebook, I founded the information, that it s to start the upgrade directly after a new installation of recovery.
If you did a recovery facility before the upgrade?
Tried other recommendations as the boot is a way to solve the problem of getting the error message when I want to install an Avanquest program that says it is compatible but I can't install the software. Told me to get off my computer Vista and stop all these problems. I can't the setup.exe to rework? What can I do next to get off my Vista system.
Contact Avanquest as it is probably a known issue. Right click on it and RUN AS ADMIN?

I have a Satellite Pro U400 running Vista Business (OEM) and at the start of a desktop computer TrueSuite Manager pop-up message appears telling me there is an update to install.
When I try to install the update, I get a window that says Setup.exe does not work.

You may need to clean the OS before installing the Truesuite again.

I have a Gateway laptop with Windows Vista. I put Norton anti-virus on it last year. Now I am trying to run the new disk of Norton and the computer tells me that setup.exe has stopped working and I can't run the program. Norton 2008 has been removed.
Download/run their abovelink Norton Uninstall tool to ensure that all "Norton" is deleted.
Then, right-click on the setup.exe Norton > run as admin.
If the above does not help:
Contact the Norton Support for problems with their software.

Trying to open a downloaded file that updates a driver Lexmark (Z600), the process ends quickly with the dialog box stating that "Setup.exe has stopped working. Windows Explorer needs to close".
You can try a right-click on the setup.exe > run as admin.

First thing to do is to check its Vista compatibility at the link above, and if not to see what patches/solutions are available from its manufacturer...
If this is not Vista compatible, read the info on the link above.
It works for some programs, but not all.
This applies to software programs, NOT hardware drivers.
If it's Vista compatible > uninstall it > Re-download/save to your desktop > right click on the setup.exe
Run as Admin

I just got a HP Pavillion desktop computer new with Vista 64 and I have problems installing. Whenever I put the installation disc in the drive it does not load and I get an error message telling me that setup.exe has stopped working and will be forced to close. I even tried to jump the autorun and will my CD-ROM drive and manually select the file setup.exe. The initial splash screen appears and says please wait loading but I never have any more than that because the program crashes. I thought that maybe the drive was defective, but I tried it on a XP desktop and an XP netbook and the disk works fine on both. What gives? OK, so I finally understand for me. I did an exploring more of the disc and found a file named setup64.exe and TADAAAAA this file runs. But I still can't LELA to run but hey at least I have everything works now

I have read through the related forums and don't think I've seen a solid answer to this problem. I'm trying to reinstall Quicken on my Dell Inspiron 530 Vista with service pack 2. (Long and ugly tells how he got deleted at first - thank you, Intuit).
When I try to install Quicken, I get the above error message. I tried the clean boot solution; I tried to enter the installation and execution of the exe directly from there; I tried to do a right click to open/run as administrator... etc.
