Satellite A40 laptop: missing file windows to boo upward

For some reason, my laptop refused to start. The display shows that a file is missing or damaged and I please re install it. The file is \System32\ntoskrnl.exe

How can I do this? Someone please help!

Hello

It is not at all easy!
To be able to reinstall single files you need the real installation media or file to a friend with the same version of Windows XP you have.
In addition, it is unlikely that the replacement of the file help.

The recovery you have contains a Tablet installed WinXP is not so easy get the file from there.

If you do not use the recovery (it will erase everything on your drive), I suggest that you check with your friends if they have the same version of Windows XP you have. Probably WinXP Home English? What service pack? SP1 or 2?
Then copy this file from their computer to your machine.
I hope this will help, but probably not.

Good luck!

Tom

  • How to activate the resolution wide on external monitor on Satellite A40-261

    Hi all
I have a Satellite A40 laptop and just bought an external display. I find only normal resolutions in the area of comprehensive property. Is it possible to expand the range of wide screen resolutions?

    Best regards, Leander

    Hello guys.

First of all, I would like to say a few words on the screen resolutions.
Mainly the resolution of certain is not available because the resolution is not listed in the graphics driver. In other words, if the driver doesn't support this resolution so you will not be able to choose.

We try to look at a few:
    @BKV
You have a Satellite M100. As you say that this laptop is equipped with an ATI card.
Have you checked the settings in the ATI catalyst? Go to display properties and choose Advanced Options. Here, you choose the tab of ATI catalyst.

New window should open, and you should see the ATU catalyst control center.
Check the option display the Advanced view display. Check this area. Maybe the resolution is available here.

    @Lea
This unit uses the graphics card Intel, but Intel tab should also appear in the advanced properties of the graphics card.
If you n t found the right resolution, so I guess that the driver does not support!

  • Satellite A40: Question about product dvd recovery

    Hello

Please help me on my computer toshiba Satellite A40 laptop...
I want to reformat my HARD drive with operating system XP...

My first question is, it installs my XP OS after that I run the recovery cd?
I'm afraid that after I run the recovery cd, I'll lose my OS XP...

I don't have an XP CD... I only got this product recovery cd (disc1)

There a disc2 because the cd that I got was just disc1...

    Please help me with this...
    Thank you

Restore CD contains recovery image. Recovery image include the operating system, drivers, utilities and software tools extra.

When you install recovery image you own preinstalled WXP. For cell old models were most two disks: 1/2 and 2/2 so if you the second you will not be able to install the OS completely.

    Hello John

In my opinion, there are only two solutions: you can contact the Service partner in your country to order one or google around and check if you can find an online store where you can order the parts you need.

Unfortunately, I have no info on the price and part number.

  • Satellite A40-210 - how to recover XP but drive turns to run Windows 98?

OK, I have a dinausour: Satellite A40-210 but hey, it worked fine until a virus destroyed something decisive (or at least that's what I think), because Windows is no longer able to boot.

However, the error is given: system32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys is unavailable or broken.

I still have my recovery disks (all 3 of them)
    1: Tools & utilities CD-Rom
    2:product recovery 1 CD-Rom
    3:product recovery 2 CD-Rom

N ° 1 fails restart and recovery of product 1 CD-Rom turns 'recover' Windows 98.

Thing is, I want to recover at least some documents and pictures and if possible: get to use it again with all programs etc that have been installed on the hard drive...

    What/how do I?

As the message of 98 scares me: this will remove all previous information on the disk.

    Help, please!

    Hello

I think that your laptop comes with Windows 98, so the recovery disk contains the 98 Windows and not Windows XP. That of the point.

In addition it s not possible to reuse it with all programs and files on the HARD disk with the Toshiba Recovery disk because it erases the entire HARD disk.
You can only back up the data if you put the HARD internal drive in an external HARD drive enclosure. Then you can connect the HARD drive to another computer or laptop, and there you can save the data.
That s what you can do now.

But if you want XP back you need a Microsoft installation disc.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite A40-221 - where to find the drivers for Windows XP?

    Hello everyone.

I hope someone here can help me with my problem. I have old Toshiba laptop - Toshiba Satellite SA40-221, here it's picture . I reinstall windows xp and now I can't find the drivers. I have search on the official Toshiba web page and other internet resources, but couldn't find anything. So I hope you can tell me, where can I find the drivers for this laptoop.

PS Sorry for the bad English BTW :)

    Hi LIAPb,

Your model is Satellite A40-221 and no SA40-221.

The drivers are placed on the official website of Toshiba, but you should look in * Archive * because he old laptop s model, but it is still possible to download the drivers:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers
    Archive > Satellite > Satellite a series > Satellite A40 > Windows XP

  • Satellite Pro A40 Bootscreen "missing."

I have a Satellite A40 (I upgraded the RAM and the hard drive for him give a little more Punch), I recently installed XP Pro on. When I start it up, there is no sign of the bootscreen Toshiba or the "Windows XP loading" screen, but it will boot up to the Windows login screen.

This isn't in itself a huge problem because I can still use the system normally, but I would like to be able to access the BIOS settings.

Y at - it a quick fix to this or is there something more sinister going on?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

    Hello

To enter the BIOS using the ESC and F1-button immediately after the start of the laptop.
Additional try to connect the external display. Check if you can see something on the screen.
It is also possible that you have accidentally used the FN + F5 key combination and have changed to different display output.

  • \Windows\system32\config\system MISSING file of repair

I have a T400 who HAD an XP Pro operating system... Google chrome has frozen the system and I did a hard reboot and the computer had lost the configuration of the registry file. Microsoft recommends that the oem disc should be used, instead of a commercial version of the operating system. It's my DISLIKE for the purchase of a laptop computer with the OEM software, without a backup disk. If there is a problem, the manufacturer generally is going to drag you dry. I thought that this stratagem of Toshiba, but not of Lenovo. Hell, you can't even ask 'em to a disk if you are out of warranty. Stone wall. Why is it not possible to ask even an OEM Lenovo restore disk? Unless you have the security privileges, there is no way to even ask a repair disc: repair file \windows\system32\config\system MISSING this thread has addressed the topic of config file missing and from the looks of it nothing of this worked when even though the guy has abandoned and performed a clean installation and lost three days : http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/How-to-repair-corrupt-windows-system32-c... I just want to get some tips on how to record what I have and do not go the trouble to reinstall my entire library of software and then having to reinvent my lost files. Ridiculous. Where there is an article on what works?

Also, I came across a nasty virus.  I had removed it and said that it would be a good idea to enjoy recovery.  Instead, I reinstalled Windows XP entirely from my original disc.  The problem is that during the installation he repeated that the modem driver was missing, then something on file synaptics... all these things that I assumed were on the original drive, but he kept asking me to specify its location.  I just said it cancel and it finished installing without these elements.  Now how can I go into windows and find and install missing files, it needs.

If your computer is a laptop, the Synaptics device is almost certainly the touchpad.  The absence of a touchpad driver should not stop you start in Windows - although the touchpad does not work.

Similarly, the absence of the modem driver should not stop you start in Windows - even if it will affect your series to use the modem to connect to the Internet.

If your computer has a recovery partition, the driver files may be on that partition.  If not, check if the provided computer manufacturer separated a CD with drivers, etc..  If you don't have another CD or a recovery partition, you will need to download the drivers from the Internet.

You can download a generic www.synaptics.com/support/drivers touchpad driver.  In the meantime, you can connect and use a regular mouse (which will be compatible with the generic mouse drivers Win XP).

However, it will be much better to get the specific drivers for your touchpad and the modem.  If you have an OEM computer, you may be able to download the drivers from the website of the manufacturer of the computer.  Otherwise, you must identify the manufacturer and model specific to the modem and the device "synaptics" numbers Then, search the Internet for the appropriate drivers.

  • Error code: 0xc0000034 missing file /BCD in Windows 8

    * Original title: help! Error code: file missing /BCD 0xc0000034 Windows 8!

    Hello

I have a Zoo-storm and I seem to have a lack file start.

The error code is 0xc0000034 and the missing file is /BCD.

I do not know the use of this file, but it seems important to me.

I called the ZooStorm company and they said I should have a drive, but I do not have this disc.

I really don't like if I have to completely wipe the computer but I need this problem soon.

    Help, please

    Tyler

The link you provided above comes up with a message "page cannot be found".

I have now solved the problem by using the BCDBoot command, but it took a week of research and a lot of trail and error, while I have it might have solved the first day if the BCDBoot instructions above had been better.

Here are the BCDBoot instructions above:

    1. press SHIFT + F10 when you are in the screen install Windows, elevated to the starting command prompt will now open.
    2. type DISKPART command
    3. Enter the command LIST VOLUME, note volume don't...
    4. Enter the command SELECT VOLUME 'no' (eg1, 2, 3) mine was 3
    5. Enter the command ASSIGN LETTER = Z and OUTPUT
    6 enter the BCDBoot c:\Windows /s f: UEFI z: command
    7. close and restart.

Here are my suggestions for improvement:

Point 3. above: the statement: "Note volume no....". "is useless, because it gives no indication of what are the criteria to use. I thought initially that files would be copied from the dvd of recovery on the c drive, so I noted the volume for drive c. In fact, the files are copied from the c drive, so the volume no note is one containing the BCD files used at startup, which is different. It is not obvious to me how to choose the correct volume. I guessed that it was volume 2 on my Dell laptop (labeled something like ESP or EPS) and which proved correct. Otherwise, it's trial and error again.

Point 5. above: it should be two lines, as there are has two separate orders to enter.

Point 6. above: I think that the two points between f and UEFI should not be there.

I hope that these suggestions are useful to other people, assuming they notice that there is a Page 2.
