Satellite A500 - update BIOS with dead battery

Hi all

I have a Satellite A500 (PSAR3E) laptop and I need to update the BIOS to the latest version.
Unfortunately, my battery died completely, and I have no chance to get a working one.

I was trying to update the bios all day, but no matter how I try (even created a boot back drive and took command line phlash16, /forceit and so on) it keeps telling me that he needs at least 10% charged battery present.

How can this problem be solved?

> If I remove the battery, engine update fails, say there is no battery present, if I fix the battery, then update will fail saying the battery must be at least 10% - but he died, this percentage is 0.
And you write about original Win version that you have downloaded from the Toshiba BIOS download page and started in Windows?

To be honest is unclear to me that there is a trick to avoid this situation.
Maybe something stupid, but now, do you really need to install the update to the BIOS?
Is there a problem with your machine?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A500 with fan noise problem.
It has been partially resolved the upgrade of BIOS from v1.20 to v1.30, according to this thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=46719&start=0&TSTART=0

Yesterday I updated the BIOS v1.50, and the sound of the fan returned.
I do not recommend this upgrade if you have had the problem of fan noise.

I have downgrade BIOS v1.30 and fan noise problem is solved again.
I know that people have problems to get the downgrade to BIOS, so I describe the process in this thread:

Thanks mate for sharing this with us

But perhaps you could use the v1.5 BIOS and could reduce or reduce the activity of module cooling in Vista/Win7 power management settings.
It would be interesting to check it out

In any case thank you for this info

  • Satellite A500 / big problem with keyboard

Hello everyone, first sorry for my English, I'm French!

Anyway, since 2 days now my Satellite A500 has a big keyboard problem and I don't know how to fix it. I used it as usually, just cleaned each week arriving at work with a simple cloth and after starting my computer, when I started typing, I realized that the keyboard has disappeared as a "madman".

Some keys are reversed, others like the space bar just doesn't work anymore, capslock button now unlock with the key has and another example, when I press D writes 'CD' and other stuff like that. It is simply impossible to type correctly. I'm running on Windows 7, I have the first test to look for any kinf of viruses, vain, so I formatted my hard drive, reinstalled Windows 7, then after I did the update to the Bios and now everything is clear and clean, but the keyboard problem is still there.

The fact is that I have this laptop since August 2009 and my warranty no longer applies, so before I should send my computer to any computer repair store I want to know if it's really a problem of keyboard/equipment which can be fixed, "softwarely" or if there is always some kind of alternative for me.

Thanks to all for your future responses.

    Hello

    Crazy keyboard?
Hmm. Don t think that it s software or related bios looks more keyboard problem.
You can try to plug an external USB keyboard to check if the problem would be also available
If it s not available using the external USB keyboard, then it s internal problem of keyboard and the part needs to be replaced.

Keyboard replacement is not difficult. The keyboard is secured by two or three screws that are hidden under the cover of thin plastic above the F1 - F12 buttons.
Remove the plastic cover, remove the screws, lift the keyboard, disconnect the cable (notice, two tiny locks on the connector needs to be moved).
Then, you would be able to remove the cable of the flat keyboard which is connected to the mobo.

But if you have no experience, then you this replacement must be done by laptop computer technician.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite T135 - update BIOS 2.70 won't be finished

I have a Satellite T135 Win7 running with an original BIOS that I'm moving to 2.70. I ran all the other software updates in Service Station (2.1.51) with no problems. but the BIOS downloads 2.7, initiates and cautions that I'll need to reboot (I select Yes to execute) and receive notice of popup on the electrical problem (defective DC) which corrects this BIOS, then nothing. It just stops.

I disabled my firewall windows antivirus, but the update is still unable to fill. I downloaded the file directly from Toshiba (outside the Service Station) and run the file and exactly the same thing happens.
The event viewer shows all the related entries.

Anyone has an idea on how to get the updated BIOS up-to-date?

    Hi mwarwick,

Did you install any new version of package of added value of the Web from Toshiba site? This program is necessary if you want to update the BIOS to check if you have installed the latest version.

In addition I recommend you load the default settings in the BIOS before doing the update. Then, go into the BIOS, press F9 to load the default values, save & exit it.

Can update you the BIOS now?

  • Satellite L750D - update BIOS 2.1 and its problem

    Hello

I have little problem. I was downloaded from your website 2.1 BIOS for Toshiba Satellite L750D (PSK32E).

I have been updating BIOS 2.1 and start the problem with the sound. When I start the game, music or else minutes 2 first sound plays correctly but then it stops without reason. No noise at all. I've been reinstalled op system but the problem is still there.

Sound works for 2 minutes only then is completely off. Each application to start with sound plays 2 minutes and stop all silent is. I did a probe on my laptop the mother she s a computer portable twin. I have updated bios same problem 2 minutes and then no sound. My OS is win 8 64 pro my laptop mother is with win 7 x 64 premium.

Two BIOS updated ver 2.1 on L750D and the problem is the same. Please fix the BIOS.

The BIOS seems to be very old. I was released nearly 1.5 years ago, so to be honest, I doubt that his and BIOS problem.

I had the similar problem with my other laptop equipped with a Realtek sound card.
The sound appeared after connection and remove the headphone jack
But I could solve this latest installation updated audio driver the Realtek driver page.

But it seems that your Satellite does not support Realtek audio chip but the Conexant audio chip.
Therefore, the solution could not be useful for you.

However, I think that you need to update the audio driver. I recommend you google for driver Conexant SmartAudio HD and test the latest version of the driver available.
On the internet, I find the Conexant SmartAudio HD driver version 8.65.9.51 for Win 7 / 8 Win / Win 8.1
Not quite sure if this is the latest version, but you can test it.

    To manually update your driver:

    1. go into the Device Manager (right click on my computer, choose manage and then find Device Manager in the left panel)
    2. right click on the device you want to update and choose Update driver software
    3. choose Select the location of the new driver manually and navigate to the folder where you downloaded the driver

  • Want DV6-7300ea problem of updating Bios with SSD

    Hello

Recently, I swapped my HARD drive to the STRANGE Bay and put an SSD in the startup location.  Everything works fine until it was update the BIOS to the new version F.26.  After having downloaded the update and run the .exe, the computer restarts and the normal blinking screen comes up - everything seems as it should and checks the update. Then, the system reboots and what I see is a black screen with the fan turns. He accomplishes this task for 30 seconds, then stops and goes through the same routine. I left for an hour, but no progress so I removed the battery and swapped the HARD drive in the main Bay. Put running the laptop and it displays the screen "Boot Block update" and continued to work as usual.

No idea why he won't not on-screen "update Boot Block" with the SSD in as peripheral to start?

When you start the update of the BIOS ROM file performs a check of the configuration of the laptop. The coding of the met the STRANGE unexpected update and configuration SSD as your laptop went into a loop. When you have returned the laptop on its original config that apparently satisfied with the softpaq update BIOS and completed its task. Now, we know the results of the portable non-standard configurations on the BIOS updates.

Thanks for posting this has happened and the final result.

    Best regards

  • UPDATE BIOS WITH OEM WIN 7

Hello, I'm under Win7 64-bit OEM version. I want to update my BIOS by removing the old BIOS chip and its replacement by a new chip with the latest BIOS on this subject. My question is, will see the BONE and detecting the new BIOS as a computer or a new Board of Directors. I will replace the CMOS battery at the same time.

    All advice appreciated.

    Thank you, Buster.

Well well well, its my lucky day, I have triumphed!  I thought I would take a shot at a flash, downloaded the update of the BIOS on the XFX 4 times site, whenever Win Zip told me it was an archive invalid so gave up on that!

Swapped the chip for the BIOS and CMOS battery, started waiting for re configure CMOS and BIOS, but all my settings was intact! How bizzare!

Entered 'System' and noted that I had 3 days to activate, click on "Activate now" problems while waiting but no.. bosh... work.  Well happy.

Thanks for your input guys. At least, it has been proven that you can put a fresh BIOS chip in a system with OEM operating system.  All the work took about 10 minutes!

    Thanks again, Buster.

Thank you to let us know.

  • Satellite A500-19W does not detect battery

    Hello

I have a portable Satellite A500-19W which is 6 months old.

I bought this laptop while I was in Egypt and now I've moved (Dubai) UNITED Arab Emirates.

Lately my laptop started suddenly does not detect battery.

To remedy this that I have to remove the battery and clean the terminals then re - put the battery and turn it on and it's OK.

This happened twice this week and caused my data loss because the charger is disconnected (if the charger is connected, the laptop computer continue to work, but the battery indicator does not light up)

Now, my questions are the following
1 - is this problem under warranty?
2 - should I pay for anything when getting this laptop in service in Dubai noting that I bought in Egypt?
    3. is there a cure for this problem without going through the service center?

    Thank you

1 / Yes. These questions should be covered by the warranty. Material is junk.

2 / the nearest service contact and ask, but I'm sure you don't have to pay for the repair. The two countries are countries in EMEA, and avoid any kind of problems.

3 / it is not much, you can do about it so please contact and explain the situation. They should check your laptop and find a reason why this happens.

Don t waste your time and contact the closest service. If you have need for addresses and phone numbers you can find on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > support & downloads > find an ASP.

  • C50-A-19 t satellite does not start with the battery mounted

    OK, first post here.

I see similar questions coming, but as they are never QUITE the same, I am that posing in a new thread.

I left my Satellite from one day to the next (do not remember if I had put off, or he simply had 'gone to sleep', but it has been connected to the grid).

When I got to reboot, I got a power light on, but screen blank (black). After reading a few similar complaints on the internet (via another laptop!), I tried to remove the battery and power from the grid.
This worked well (I write him in this state right now).

But whenever I put the battery and try again, it will fail in the same way.
I tried this company "press and hold power for 30 seconds" without success (but I'm not 100% sure of the EXACT procedure actions sequence).

    I have a few questions:

    (1) I take the laptop away from my office - is there a problem with everything just works like this (i.e. of the grid, with no battery inserted) indefinitely?

    (2) in any case, I want to solve the problem.
If the battery has run COMPLETELY flat, and that the laptop can not it lights but also operate normally?

Alternatively, is probably that the battery has not experienced a catastrophic failure and simply needs to replace?
If so, I'll just buy a. BUT...

What I don't want to do, is to pay for a costly spare battery, to find that it was actually another factor at the origin of the problem, and I'm back to square one and out of Pocket!

    Any advice would be welcome.

    Thank you

    Mike

    Hello

According to your assignment, in most cases, you use the laptop connected to the power adapter but no battery. Is this correct?

First we need to know that if the AC adapter is plugged in, the laptop should work correctly with - and without inserting the battery.
If you unplug the AC adapter, the laptop should automatically switch to battery power. In this case, it is important that the battery is pretty cool power to provide the power for the laptop.
In case the battery is empty, the laptop will not light.

I recommend to insert the battery plug the power adapter and charge the battery for a longer period of time.

You should also check if the battery is recognized by the Windows system and the battery charge indicator (battery in the taskbar icon) shows the State of battery charge.

In case the battery is fully charged and the laptop does not work using the battery power only, you should test the new battery.
If new battery does not solve the problem, s for laptop hardware needs an audit.

  • Satellite L350 updated Bios to pad 2.1 and lost

    Hello

As indicated above for the update Bios to 2.1 later I lost the functionality of numeric keypad, not the right side as if it were a good keyboard.
The above keys work IE delete scroll etc.

The numlock light does not illuminate, but it does if I activate the keys on the stretch main qwerrty.
Is their any way to reload the bios it won't let me because I have the latest or downgrade may not be like that until anothrer update.

By the wy am Windows 7 any info would be greatly apreciated thanks

    Hello

Normally you press Numlock on the keyboard to enable it.
    Check this box!

If it s not working do not you should load the default settings in the BIOS. Maybe it works.

Last but not least just be sure it s not a hardware problem, can test you it with the factory settings?

  • update BIOS with freedos

I have an Elite 7000 MT running linux.  Is it possible to update the BIOS with FreeDOS?  According to this link http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=4025606&...the sp48334.exe that contains a file AFUWIN.exe and Flash.bat should work with FreeDOS.  However, when I run it from a USB bootable with FreeDOS, I get the message "Cannot run this program in DOS mode."  It seems that AFUWIN.exe is not intended for the BACK, so this is a mistake that HP says it should work with FreeDOS?  Seems rather, I need AFUDOS.

    Thank you.

Great idea!  It worked.  Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Satellite A500-17 x with Win7 64 bit - map gfx says its 32-bit

    Hello

my laptop, Satellite A500-17 x, on Windows 7 64 bit, but the map gfx says its 32-bit.
I saw this on the nVidia control panel. I was wondering if the 64 bit OS is having compatibility problems when I play games.

I posted a thread on the game board on my gambling problem and I thought this might be a contributing factor.

    Thank you.

Can you please send a screenshot? I have Win7 64 bit and nVidia card and when I open the nVidia control panel and click on system information, everything is displayed properly.

  • Satellite A100 - update BIOS problem with phlashnt.sys and Vista 64

I downloaded the upgrade of BIOS (file S10V600.exe) for my Toshiba Satellite A100-437 (PSAA8). When I try to launch it I get the answer:
    "Unable to load driver.
    ... \PHLASHNT. SYS
    ...
This driver has been blocked form load.
    Error code: 1275 "
(I rolled points instead of less interesting part of this message.

My system is Vista Business 64 - bit SP1.

I turned off User Account Control (in fact it the first thing I did after installing Vista ;)).
And just to be safe, I also tried to right click on the S10V600.exe file and choose "Run as Administrator".
I was using the admin account.

Nothing did. Always the same window with the above message appeared.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Concerning

Maybe it's because you have installed Vista 64-bit?

You may need to use XP or Vista 32 bit update of the BIOS.
