Satellite A660 - cooling fan is too slow

Hello

I own TOSHIBA Satellite A660 - 10 X
the problem is that fan will slow (when the laptop starts its goes much faster that slowing it down). Problem is that the laptop is overheating and that it stops without any warning. I'm working on it and must be reliable.

I tried the power management but there are only "optimized batery' or 'up', but at least it won't max for sure.

Is it possible to check the speed of the fan? I tried several aplications to see fan speed but they do not work.

And I never found fan in BIOS.

You use applications that require a lot of graphics performance?
S your laptop sitting on the desk when you work with it.

Do not forget that all the vents, especially downstairs are not blocked somehow.

  • Satellite A660-10W - fan works too

I had my A660-10W 10 months. Recently the fan suddenly turn a lot, whereas previously it was quiet. I don't do games, I just write and browse the Internet or watch a movie. The fan works now, 69% always, very often 90% and temperature show 54 or 64.

I would like to point out the fan does not like this before, so I'm worried that it will cause damage.

    Thank you.

    Hi Bedouins,

Are you currently using another power plan or have you changed something on the cooling method? From my own experience, I can say that if I use the Eco mode there are much less active fan. If the laptop is quieter and it safes a little battery.
If you use the power balanced Windows profile, it uses the method of cooling a maximum performance. If the fan runs more often.
In most cases I use the Eco mode to surf on the internet because it s enough.

In addition it s advisable to clean the cooling system from time to time using a jet of compressed air.
    Do you have already?

  • Satellite M70 - cooling fan does not start

    Hello.

I recently got a little work Satellite M70 - CL1 to a friend. Everything works, but the cooling system is malfunctioning. Fan made ramp-up at the start, but then it does nothing. I tried the XP system installed inside, and ubuntu 10.10 does not seem that the fan is running. My friend said the fan strikes, but at the moment he does, too little too late and the system freezes due to overheating. He managed to stay alive for 20 minutes on his own cooling power.

Any suggestions on what's wrong? Maybe it's the temperature probe that is defective?

    Hey,.

Of course, it's not always easy to tell what the exact reason is on this virtual path but probably dust blocks the cooling fans and so it may start t and the laptop is overheating.

Clean the fan and the heat sink is not very complicated, because you can use the jet of compressed air to blow the dust from the cooling fans. Everything is described in this very useful Toshiba article on cleaning of your laptop:

  • Satellite A660 - Internet connection is very slow

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite A660-guest 1GT, bought the Poland and I have a problem with the internet. Where I live there is a wireless router and my laptop connects to the wireless but the internet works very slowly. I have a older laptop which I use in parallel on which the internet is much faster. When I clicked on the network and diagnose the problem, there was a message that the connection seems to be broken. In addition, the number of packages I'm sending is twice or three times less than the package I receive.

I took out the battery, reconfigure power settings, reinstalled both drivers for the LAN and wireless, all uninstalled programs of eternal but the internet is still very slow. I have to wait more than 10 minutes to load a video on youtube. Which, on my old computer, it must be about 1 min. can you please advise me what to do?

P.S. I donno if that counts. I got Windows 7 in Polish and I installed an English pack with vistalizator,

    Thank you!

    Hey,.

Is Internet connection too slow when you connect the Ethernet cable? So, you can determine whether the problem is related to the Internet itself router or WLAN connectivity.

Generally speaking, it is difficult to say something about the WIFI configuration and router. In your case I also get in touch with your internet service provider and ask for the correct router configuration. They can also tell you how to set up the laptop to go online. :)

  • Satellite C650 cooling fan lights up regularly

    Hello

I recently bought a C650 and find that the cooling fan will continue to run, even if the laptop is not too hot.
The fan will run for about 15 seconds, then turn off for 30 to 60 seconds before turning on the back. And this is of course not quiet!

My Toshiba Power Saver setting is Plugged In: optimized battery.
I can't run the Toshiba Power Saver in the C:\Program folder.
Is this a software or registry setting or warranty issue?

    Can anyone help please.
    Thanks in advance.

    > Is this a software or registry setting or warranty issue?
To my knowledge, software issues not covered by the warranty.

But just a question; you have the latest version of the BIOS?
The fan table that controls the fan activity is stored in the BIOS, so you must make sure that your BIOS is up to date.

    > I can not run the Toshiba Power Saver in the C:\Program folder.
I guess you have a Win 7 OS running on this laptop.
The Toshiba Power Saver is a part of the Windows 7 power management. Therefore, the settings within the Windows 7 power management.

I had similar problem with my fan. Improve the management of the power of Win 7 as described here:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/Ann.jspa?annID=41
The doc describes Vista power management but it looks a lot like the Win 7s

  • Satellite R630-155 - fan is too loud and SSD update

I am the owner of a Toshiba Satellite R630-155 (Core i5-480). My problems are:

    1. the fan is too loud and never stops. In normal operation (navigation and General Office work) there is a constant high pitch noise which is audible three to four meters in a desktop - high load environment, you just can't take it anymore! The fan never stops... even when you do nothing...

    2. the heat is a big problem. The bottom of the laptop is overheated constantly and I have to place on my desk so that the lower left corner is outside the table, so it can breathe fresh air from below - otherwise, the temperature rises and the (noisy) fan is unable to follow. When I work with the laptop sitting on a couch, I place a thick book between the laptop and my legs. The book must be thick (more than one inch) with hard covers, otherwise the heat going through the book!

    3. last (but not least, I will mention the biggest problems here) that's the problem with the installation of the SSD. I bought a used Corsair F80 (80 GB SSD) from a friend, but I was unable to use it with the Toshiba - BIOS not detect the disc. I tried to install all the latest updates for portable and SSDS but I had no success. Then I put the disc and I bought a brand new Zalman 128 GB SSD (SSD0128N1 Sandforce) but I had exactly the same problem. I contacted my local support Toshiba and after much conversation, the only answer I got is that the laptop is not compatible with these SSDS, and it is acceptable by Toshiba and not their problem. They told me that if I need an SSD upgrade I cannot go for the Toshiba SSD that is installed on the portege series, which is sold by Toshiba for a ridiculously expensive price - about $500 for 128 GB. I contacted the European support center and I got the same exact answer. I searched the Internet and found someone else with exactly the same problem with a Corsair 128 GB SSD - he concluded that the laptop detects the SSD after ten to twenty resets. I tried and it was true - after a lot of restarts the detected disk Zalman laptop and I was able to successfully install Windows 7, but the process is unacceptable. Also the drive is rated by the sites official at the speed of an OCZ Vertex 2 128 GB (and a little better), but when I ran a cue point in the Toshiba, the results I got were less than half of the advertised speed. Same reference in another machine of the same disc, resulted in the announced speeds.

Shame for Toshiba...-beautiful design and portability, but all the rest is a big flaw. Their support in non-existent and they do not appreciate their customers. According to me, they stole my money and I will never buy a Toshiba laptop again.

Sorry for the big message, but I need, I warn potential customers. Can anyone help me with any of these problems? You also have the same problems?

    To follow...

    Hey Buddy,

With regard to the issue of fan and the heat: you did it BIOS update? A friend told Satellite R630 too and he told me that the fan with the new BIOS version 2.10 activity is reduced. In addition, the laptop is colder than before so I recommend to install this update. You can download the update of the BIOS here:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

But before you start the update of the BIOS, you should consider the following tips:
-Run update as an administrator only
-Unzip all files from zip archive before launching the update file
-Close all running programs as the antivirus and firewall
-Make sure the battery is fully charged

With regard to the SSD it s still a little complicated to install 3rd party products and no one can guarantee that these parts would not work. You're always on the side safely with original spare parts from Toshiba.

All you can do is to install the new firmware for SSDS and hope that it works, but who knows maybe the BIOS update will help you also in this case ;)

    THIS Version 1.10
Temperature CPU Fan of 46% 53% speed

Hi, just bought this laptop (5 days), the cooling fan is not turned off, the computer feels cool so don't know why it has run all the time. Read other articles on the upgrade of the BIOS but wouldn't go the upgrade in case missed me something obvious. It is a laptop replacement after the last Toshiba laptop (3 weeks old) no longer works in total. Prefer if possible to fix this with the help, rather than lose the computer for 3/4 weeks for repair, any advice would be greatly received.
    Thank you

I put t know how you use your laptop computer but try to please use it with balanced power management. Change coolant also option method of optimized battery option. Cooling method you can find in the power options advanced > Toshiba Power saver settings.

    Please test and send feedback.

  • Satellite L100 - cooling fan does not start up more

    Hello

On my L100 laptop cooling fan doesn't seem to work! It does not start up more and after awhile the laptop shuts down as it is too hot. What can we do?

    See you soon
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

The fan lights normally the POST process before loading the BIOS. Your laptop will continue to boot normally, I presume that your fan control electronics is still viable, otherwise the MESSAGE would fail. So, it seems likely that the problem is with the fan itself. I suggest you check that the fan will run in fact and it missed upward (try to blow strongly in grids).

If you laptop is still under warranty, then you must contact an ASP to get the fan replaced.

    Kind regards

  • Re: Satellite A210 - cooling fan will not stop running

I am owner of a Satellite A210 laptop. I've owned this during 2-3 weeks. Thursday, I noticed that my fan was working very hard, fast and never stop. Before that, he'd come rarely. I restarted the computer and once it came the fan came and does not stop. I left it for 30 minutes and it still continues. I checked down to see if she was overheated and it wasn't. I bought a little chilled out air and breathed he threw the two events, but she still continued.

Should I take back at the store that I bought and ask if they can fix this problem or is there a solution that I have not found?

    Thank you
    Tyler

    Hello

Try it please change the option of cooling method in the power settings to see if the cooling fan works more slowly. If there is no difference, you can contact the store and see what they say about it.

  • Re: Satellite C660 - cooling fan work with a bang

    Hello

Recently my computer laptop cooling fan started running continuously with a loud noise. When the screen is idle, it stops for a few seconds and start again. I changed the power balance in the Panel options, but it did not work. Even the BIOS is the most recent. Referring to discussion forums, I've changed to "selective startup" thru "msconfig" but nothing worked.

He is 8 months old. The noise is very disturbing. Can someone please help me with this?

    Thank you very much
    Sammy

    Hey Buddy,

    > Referring to discussion forums, I've changed to "selective startup" thru "msconfig".
I never heard of something like that

Have you already tested it with cooling optimized battery method? Profile of balanced diet also uses maximum performance for cooling must change the power profile and choose the battery optimized for each profile on the battery and the AC adapter power / cooling CC. Information on all power plan options, you can find here:

You wrote that your laptop is already 8 months old. You clean in the past?

  • Replace Satellite C850 cooling fan

Hi everyone, noob here needing help. I dropped my C850 1 kN (very stupid, I know) and now I think the cooling fan is broken. I removed all the screws from the underside of the laptop and removed the hard drive. Still, the case seems closed and I can't get to the cpu / fan zone. I don't want to force the case apart if I break something.

If someone could give a quick walk in how to access the fan, I'd be VERY Grateful.

    Thank you
    Emilia

I think it is not good idea to disassemble the laptop computer together if you n t have experience with such things. Small mistake and you can damage something. Please note: t is almost impossible to buy or order small parts that may be damaged.

You can't remove just the bottom cover. The whole notebook must be dismantled. You need to remove the optical drive, keyboard (special technique how to do this) and then losing screws under the keyboard.
    > noob here looking for help.
I'm afraid you shouldn't play with all this Mr. anyway, I guess you know that everything you do is at your own risk.

  • Re: Satellite L550 - cooling fan suddenly stopped working

About two weeks ago, I placed my laptop down on the ground. When I picked up two minutes later, there was an error on the screen that read something like "there is a problem with the cooling system, please contact your nearest centre of Toshiba. Since then, the cooling fan has failed.

I replaced the fan with a different, which also failed, then maybe the problem is the system not the fan? Is there some settings within the system that allows me to manually turn the fan on and off?

    > I replaced the fan with another
Which means that replace you it with another model?
Well, I think that another model of fan will never work because notebooks are specific products designed for certain series/models only. This allows you to change the t as well as on desktop computers.

In my opinion, you should contact the nearest authorized service provider. Guys can replace the fan and order a new one. If your laptop is under warranty, the repair will be free. :)

    See you soon

  • P30-145 satellite - computer cooling system becomes too hot

    Hello

Can someone tell me the speed of maximum ventilation for Satellite P30-145, Im of the problems with the cooling system, because my computer is because cutting as its not too hot, Ive currently had raised by 1 inch on wooden beams to help the circulation of air, and I wanted to know what the speed of the fan is the possibility of an update of fan.

    Thanks for your help.
    Michael

    Hello

The fan that was installed in the satellite P100 expected works well and should be able to cool the CPU without any problem.
I recommend you to check the settings in the energy saver. There, you can choose between different modes.
It is also important that the fan grids are free. The air circulation is very important for the cooling of the processor

  • Satellite U940 - cooling fan loud

    I bought a brand-new U940 Satellite two months ago.

Last week, the fan has started to be very strong most of the time.
It can cut for a minute, but in general, it is strong. It can also make a sound of scraping by moments.

According to my Toshiba Health Monitor, the CPU temperature is about 50%.
I guess it's high, and that's why the fan works.

However, this laptop is new - so I don't know why the fan is noisy AND the CPU temperature is high.
I'm afraid that it will cause problems in the long term to a laptop that I had only a short period.

What can be done and how concerned should I be?

    Post edited by: c8ie

At first, I must say that there is no reason to panic. Cooling system is optimized for certain platform hardware so hardware will be cooled properly.

I put t know how I can you use your laptop, but if you use it for daily activities like office, internet or use cat with balanced power and also change the settings in some power for the cooling method plan. Set to optimized battery option. It should reduce the activity of fan cooling.

  • Question about Satellite L850 cooling fan - 11 d

    Hello

There is a big problem with my CPU fan speed. He continues to run 20-30% (approximately 950 RPM) while the CPU/GPU temperature is high. I have cleaned the air fan, replaced the thermal grease. I changed all the settings to high performance and CPU Active, cooling system.

Sometimes the fan speed increases to 60% for a few seconds, but then immediately goes back down to 20%. I bought this phone 6 months ago and it worked very well, with high-speed fan (90% + during the games).

Now when I play some games it just shuts down after a few minutes.
If anyone knows how I can fix this problem, please help.

(I can do SS of the speed of fan/temperature sensor if necessary)
    (Sorry for my English)

Please don t get me wrong, but in my opinion, it was a big mistake to open computer laptop and do all those things in the hope that something will be better. Now you have canceled the warranty. Too bad.

In any case, you maybe update the BIOS or installed the non-Toshiba display driver in the past?
