Satellite A660 - limited to 2 MB/s USB key

I have a Satellite A660 PSAW #C - 047017. Transfers of files with several sticks of memory appear to be limited to 2 MB/s. Theoretically, it is much more than an order of magnitude higher. Anyone else encounter this?

Hi Bookworm123,

Can you post more information about this behavior? What operating system you are using and if it s the version preinstalled Windows of Toshiba or not.

Generally support USB itself is a function of the speed of transfer of files on USB support

Have you checked the Device Manager for the yellow exclamation points on the USB ports? I would try a chipset driver in your case and it can be downloaded on the official page of Toshiba:

  • Satellite A660: how to record videos with USB webcam?

I recently bought a Satellite A660, which has a built-in webcam. Using the Toshiba provided video application I can record videos, but I find the clarity and brightness of the rather poor image, even in good lighting.

I have a USB webcam that I plugged in and tested for example in Skype, and he produces images much better under the same conditions. My question is: How can I know Toshiba video application to use instead of the built-in USB webcam? I can't find any settings where I can choose which camera to use.

If this is not possible, do I need to install other video recording software? Windows 7 does not have all the applications where you can simply record a video from a webcam (I thought Windows Move Maker to do that, but apparently not).

I just want to be able to record videos of my USB webcam - any suggestions on the best way to proceed would be welcome.

    Thank you

    Howard

Put I don't think something like this is possible. Pre-installed Camera Assistant Software is obviously designed to work with the built in cam only.
What you need is a third party software that you can use for this application.

Google around a bit and visit a few video forums where you can pick up some info on it.

  • Satellite A300-243 - can I choose the USB key you want to start?

    Hello
I need an update for my laptop.

That is the problem. I want to boot from a flash drive and I want to save my data on another USB HDD.
All other laptops (even mini books) is an option that you can choose when you need 2 or more USB key when starting, that USB drive you want to start.

When I put 2 key USB to PC and push button start options, see a single USB boot option. I want to see them all.

Please help me get rid of this.
    Thank you.

    PC: A300-243
    BIOS: 1.90-3/20/2009

    Hello

    I think that's not possible.

As far as I know there is that only one option is supported by the BIOS (last option called USB memory)
You need to know that the different BIOS supports various functions and BIOS located on the A300 contains the option only to a USB key.

So you can use just a USB key to start.

  • Re: Satellite NB10T-A-101 - cannot boot from USB key

    Hello

I bought a new Toshiba Satellite NB10T-A-101 and want to improve performance by changing the HDD with a SSD and install windows Pro 8.1.

However, I am unable to boot from USB, it always mention:
+ Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. +

I already disabled secure, used 5 + usb startup different sticks (work fine on other laptops).

Can you please tell me what the approach is to change the HARD drive and then boot from a USB bootable (UEFI).

    Thank you.

    Hello

Laptop Satellite NB10T-A-101 was equipped with an Intel CPU 2810 n which is part of the new Intel Bay Trail-M platform.

This new technology Intel Bay Trail allows installation of UEFI capable systems:
    Win 8 or 8.1 Win

    Just a few questions:
Have you already changed the HARD drive to SSD drive?
If so, the new SSD is recognized in the BIOS?
Have you tried to boot from the USB flash memory stick 8.1 Win until you changed your SSD drive?

  • Satellite A660: no light and no beep touchpad keys

    Hello world

first of all, I apologize for my English, I'm Italian.

I am panic with my laptop, yesterday I reinstalled everything using the recovery DVD and has already had some problems with the touch buttons.

Sometimes their light turns on, and they never do the "beep" when I touch them, work of the beep only during startup.
Here are the main problems: I have already install the latest firmware of fingerprints buttons from Toshiba Web site.
    How can I solve it?

Last question: the echo utility button light should be turned off when you and just be green when the echo is active, isn t it?

    Thank you very much

    Hello

The beep occurs during startup as the POST (power self test) was transmitted correctly.
Usually, the system beep can be changed in the BIOS in Advanced tab.
In my case there are different levels of sound summer: Off, low, medium and high.
In my case I put in the Middle, but even if the system beep is activated, the button multimedia don t beep. I guess they should not beep.

With regard to the light on the button:
    It is called illumination.
As far as I know in some cases, the BIOS contains this option and you can enable and disable the lighting in the BIOS.
If the lighting is not available in the BIOS, check this:
    Go to the Program Files/Toshiba/TBS

You will find the application called dimmer.
    This allows the key light.

  • Satellite A660 - boot problems USB after BIOS update

    Hello

I own a Toshiba Satellite A660 and have recently updated the BIOS with the latest version (1.80). Since then, the laptop freezes on the splash screen (the one with the Toshiba logo) whenever a USB flash memory is attached.
It works without the memory flash connected and if I connect it after I enter the starting or the BIOS Setup menu. I can even start her like that.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a serious regression. Is there a way I can downgrade to the version of the BIOS, or any other way to solve this problem? I rely heavily on external USB drives.

    Kind regards
    Claudiu.

    Claudiu salvation,

That is really interesting, I have to say so I tested on my new Satellite A660 and Transcend 4 GB USB Stick. Well, I also installed 1.80 BIOS but I can t view this problem HARD drive is set as first boot device and all the other BIOS settings are default. The Toshiba screen and Windows computer starts as usual.
    No problem at all!

Have you tested different USB devices?

In General, it is not possible to downgrade BIOS. It is possible to an authorized service because Toshiba on page you can download the latest version only but I doubt it s a bug in the new version of BIOS because it works on my A660.

In fact, NO device in one of the three (3) USB2.0 Ports are actually be recognized or working at all - there is no answer. Interestingly, the port eSATA/USB combo of 1 one works and responds correctly.

    Can anyone help?

Should I just send it was pushing the shop? Yes, it's still under warranty.

    Hey,.

    > Should I just send it was pushing the shop?
No, I think that it s just a USB driver problem.

In your case I would reinstall the chipset of the official website of Toshiba driver. Also, you have the latest version, try to reinstall it because it contains the USB drivers and maybe it's something wrong with her s.

After installation of the chipset driver test it again. If it doesn t work to remove all the USB ports on the Device Manager and restart your laptop. The USB ports will be reinstalled automatically.

What version of BIOS you have installed?

Pretty easy to solve if it is Os/driver related issue. Reinstall/Update utility chipset of the [Page Driver Toshiba | http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp] or go to Device Manager, click on, controllers bus USB, to uninstall, then restart the laptop then

  • Satellite A660 - do not find external DVD drive

Hey guys. Newbie displaying in total despair of and needing help! I posted in other forums without success. I bought a Samsung SH-D162D DVD drive in a USB enclosure to connect to my Satellite A660 via USB.

I can't get Windows 7 to find! When I plug in the USB cable, the ball comes up to say that it has been installed (sometimes), I can see it on for about 1 or 2 minutes then he falls. It is not listed in my hardware or anything. Its not found in disk management or my devices, so it is not a case to change the drive letter - I can't find the drive to change. I also tried to find upper and lower settings in regedit. Could not find them so couldn't remove them as suggested in other posts of this nature.

It is set to master, the IDE connector and power connectors are very good. Its got to be a cause of problem of Windows 7 it comes very briefly. In the minute or 2 sound, I can't do anything with it. It crashes right although it will open and close. I've google it and can't find anything. Mainly of registry issues, but they did not help.

Ive also connected to another laptop with XP and had no problems so I know the DVD Rom works very well and all the cables are ok. Ive tried all 4 USB ports on my laptop and also disabled all the parameters of energy. All with no luck. And I also all Windows 7 update.

This is exactly what happens to the power out of the Cabinet.

    1. I connect the USB cord then turn on the enclosure.
2 - I quickly click Start, and I can see the DVD Rom E player beside my computer laptop dvd rom.
3 - the green bar above starts to fill to the top, from left to right and gets to half way then suddenly disappears icon of DVD Rom and makes the green bar.
    4. He then flashes up in computers laptops DVD Rom icon with a player of Local E drive, but only for a fraction of a second.
    5. sometimes a balloon comes up saying peripheral installation, then the installed device successfully... but not every time.

And that's all. I'm at a total loss and the cant work, so any help is really appreciated!

    Hi Smee,

So if you have already connected the external hard drive on another computer, and it worked correctly, it seems to be a driver or compatibility between your external DVD drive problem and and your Satellite A660

It will be connected to the port USB then you tried to remove all the USB ports on the Device Manager? After that, you must restart your computer and the USB ports will be recognized automatically from the Device Manager. In addition, I would also try updating the chipset driver. New version, which you can download on the official website of Toshiba:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

Have you also tested other devices on your A660 if they work properly?

    Hello

Here, you can page warranty Toshiba Australian:
    http://www.MyToshiba.com.au/support/warranty/statements

You can find the statements of warranty for Toshiba products purchased in Australia.

As far as I know the standard warranty is valid and valid for 12 months in Australia only.
If you are outside Australia and you want to use the guarantee you need a limited international warranty that applies to all services outside the Australia and the New Zealand.

  • Re: Satellite A660 turns off

    Hello

In June last year, I bought a Toshiba Satellite A660, when I took out of the House and the box, he doesn't work, turn on, and then he clicks.

I got the next day traded with another sealed unit. While in the store of the computer, I demand to see work before I take it home. Open the box starts, it worked. Last month he began to go off while in the workplace, I linked to an overheating (it heats up a lot on day 1) I bought a laptop cooler, run on USB with 200 mm cooling fan. No difference, it is capricious, some days work all day another time just clicks off and I want to never start.

Today I'm not if happy because I can not start my work is always on it. What is my solution?

I am a computer professional and is my diagnosis for this laptop: it runs too hot and the breakdowns are inevitable in the first six to 12 months, depends on its daily use (hours / day).

    In my opinion:

    (A) I don't want to fix it (it is still under warranty) I need a replacement because it is a manufacturing defect.

    (B) If this model has design problems especially overheating then it should be exchanged with a reliable model equivalent.

    see you soon,

    Vania Lolham

    Hi mate

    (A) I don't want to fix it (it is still under warranty) I need a replacement because it is a manufacturing defect.

I think you need to check with your dealer to laptop.
To my knowledge the certified partner Toshiba is able to repair and fix the laptop, but you will not get a refund of ASP.
If the laptop is under warranty, your laptop will be corrected for free.

(> B) If this model has design problems especially overheating then it should be replaced with equivalent reliable model.

Don t think that there could be a problem of design one of my friends has a series, and it works properly.
First of all, you should check if you BIOS update could improve the functionality of the laptop.
You should also check if the dust and debris does not prevent cooling modules work correctly. In my case, my old laptop didn't work correctly because of the dust.
I used to delete this jet of compressed air and it worked.

Finally, I must say that it shouldn't be necessary to use additional cooling pads in order to cool the laptop. If portable s temperature is too high, then it must be something wrong. If above advice doesn't help, then I would say that the material could be affected and in this case, the technician must verify that
