Satellite C660 - Freez after boot - corrupt BIOS update 1.7

The Satellite C660 had start-up problems: freezing screen after startup and very, very slow. Also a HARD drive recovery did not help.

I tried an update of the Bios and loaded the downloadable file that at Toshiba (version 1.7). The Bios update has not completed and now the laptop does not at all.

The warranty is void, I now buy a chip of bios in China and I'm looking for now the bios file.

It's all them very disappointing and a large size of time and money.

> The Bios update has not completed and now the laptop does not at all.
That s it Plains really looks like the module ROM was not properly flashed.
I think it's a problem with the hardware, since you had problems before the update of the BIOS.
I think that affected the procedure for updating the BIOS.

> As the warranty is cancelled, I now buy a chip of bios in China and I'm now looking for the bios file.
Forget it mate ROM module cannot be replaced in most cases the module ROM must be flashed with a disc of crisis

Would recommend asking a Toshiba ASP for help and reflash the BIOS using the disc of the crisis.
This should not be very expensive

Hey, I have trouble after you install the Bios Version 5.1 on a Satellite A100-289.

First: there is NO external USB device connected!
After the awakening of the laptop Sleepmode , I received a message in Windows XP the a power fault has been detected on one of the USB devices. A dialog box opens and I can "reset" the device.

This only happens after that the laptop is awake in sleepmode, perhaps to Hibernate, but not when the laptop starts. It seems that everything works well, but this post makes me nervous.

Can someone tell me, what is going in this box?

    What about Mirko

    Hello

5.1 BIOS was designed for Vista but it should (or it works) also with XP!

However, you could try updating the BIOS with the other BIOS version that is operating system independent
or / and you can try to disable the power save option for USB ports in Device Manager.

  • Satellite L40 - 14 H - do not start after the successful BIOS update

    Hello

I have Satellite L40 - 14 H which was working fine until I thought to an update of the BIOS will not hurt. Seems I was wrong.

I downloaded the update to the BIOS, it unzipped in a folder and started the action.

After a few seconds was asked to wait, and then after few more firm.

After the reboot, I pressed F2 to enter the BIOS and check that it is version everything was fine, version 2.0 so was I left once the parameters.

    After that, nothing happened.

I almost tried everything without success. Removed the power and battery power, put their back, but still no start. Just the light of the HARD drive lights up for a few seconds and the cd turns a bit, but after that nothing happens at all and completely the screen is black.

I don't know anything else to try.

Please let me know what that can do to restore its functionality without taking it to the service, I can't do it.

  • Satellite L750-A218 - fan run faster after 3.30 BIOS update

    Hello

Here's a new show, I have am experiencing after the BIOS update.

In my view, that the internal fans turn all the time by placing my hands near the keyboard. According to Toshiba software fan speed is 50% + while I do nothing. On the other hand, it is 25% before the update.

They are updating the BIOS to give the laptop more ventilation or something.
It's weird. CPU temperature is 45%. I upgraded from 3,00 to 3.30, for your information. Thank you.

P.S. The speed of the fan is stuck at 50% + and wont go lower than that.

What bothers me the most is that when I put my hands on the part at rest I feel the vibrations of the fans. I use the keyboard a lot and it is a huge nuisance. Is it possible to get the old BIOS, the BIOS updated not did me not a backup option. Also, I don't have a problem with the voice of fan (s). Its low.

Edit: Just downgraded to 3.10. Its the same thing. Couldn't find the 3.00 version, I've had anywhere. It's frustrating.

    Help, please
    Thank you

What to first say if you installed XP on your laptop, then you should also update the BIOS to the version of Win XP.
The BIOS update must be performed on Windows XP!
Simply run the exe file and follow the instructions on the screen.

    Regarding the sound issue.
Well this problem is not related to the BIOS, but you have not installed the XP patches!

Have you checked this forum for a similar question? I don t think so.

    Hello

Here you can find the traditional versions of updated BIOS for this laptop model:

  • Satellite L450D PSLY5E freeze during the BIOS update - now does not turn on

    Hi guys,.

I have a Satellite L450D. I recently tried (unfortunately) update the BIOS after a clean installation, because the FN key no longer working to bring up the toolbar.

Winphlash program froze near the end and the system remained frozen for a good half-hour. The only way out was to remove the battery (as I know in any case).

Now, the system will light with battery in or out and plugged in. I guess I've damaged the hard drive or the card mother or something.

Is it possible to fix? Or is it?

Thank you very much for your help.

BTW - I know now not to update the BIOS unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary and well advised.

    Joey

    > I guess I've damaged the hard drive or the card mother or something.

The disk HARD isn t damage but the Rom module where the BIOS is stored was not flashed properly.
I guess that this happened because the flash procedure was interrupted.

I'm not sure if this can be fixed perhaps the service guy could flash the ROM module with special disc of crisis of the BIOS.

    I keep fingers crossed

  • Satellite A210 FS3, PSAFGC-FS308C. BIOS update gone wrong.

    Hi all

I'm looking for info on my laptop satellite who died after a bios update.

Model is A210-FS3 (PSAFGC-FS308C)... bios uncertain.

I updated this laptop about 6 months ago (been dormant since) through windows7 beta (I know bad idea)... after he stop it came back never to life... He does not POST... Power light just blinks.

Is there a way to fix this without having to replace the motherboard? I read how to do this with a USB floppy, but it seems sketcky to me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

I think that the replacement of the motherboard is not necessary (in most cases).
Maybe the ROM module has been flashed properly.
In this case, the BIOS has to be flashed using the crisis procedure but as far as I know, this can be done by an ASP.

    I found this thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=48845

The guy managed to reflash the BIOS again. But once again, it s a sensitive procedure and usually an ASP must be contacted for a solution.

  • Re: Satellite Pro L40 - killed the laptop BIOS update

Recently I thought it would be better to download the latest drivers and upgrades for my Satellite pro L40 to keep up-to-date and partners the laptop that works smoothly. I couldn't have worse summer. Before I updated the new driver updates I thought it would be a good idea first update the Bios. So I downloaded the update of the Bios on the Toshiba site, unzipped the files and followed the online instructions for updating the BIOS. I double clicked on the BIOS file to run the update, the laptop says it was end the session, I waited and the Toshiba logo screen came. In the instructions, it says that I have to press F2 now and confirm that the date and time are correct. I should then press F9 to load all the default values and then press F10 to save and exit. At this point, the laptop must away to the loading screen, but... I got a black screen. IV turned off the computer and turn it back on, but still, I get a blank screen. The lights are on but know one's home.

Could a mod/staff/Board Toshiba administrator please explain to me why I'm going to draw the consequences of my lack full on my face because I followed a form of direct teaching of personnel of Toshiba or... Please run me through the process of bring back my cell partners in life, before that I get my Crown snatched jewels. This isn't a laugh. An upgrade directly from the manufacturer is not intended to cause you problems!

Please get back to me as soon as POSSIBLE. My first son moments of life (videos, photos) are on this laptop. That cannot be replaced. Please tell me that the laptop can be fixed...

    Hello Durks

I'm really sorry to hear you I have this problem.
To be honest, it is not easy to discuss about this because a lot of people on this forum with a similar or same problem reacts quite aggressive if they don t hear exactly the thing they want to hear.

In any case, I just want to write my comment. Don t be worried about photos and other important data. You can remove the laptop HARD drive, put it in a small box of HDD SATA 2.5 and connect the HARD drive to the other PC / laptop as external device. You will have full access to all stored data. So you can do the backup.

    Update the BIOS.
What to say at this point?
I have checked the Toshiba download page and saw that the BIOS update is available for Windows XP Home edition and Vista pre-installed notebooks so I hope you ve chosen the right one. Anyway, it is not easy to fix screwed up in the BIOS. You hate me now, but I think you should contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Call them, explain the situation and ask what you can do about it.

I hope you will fix this laptop soon.

    Good luck.

    Hello

Firstly I have to say if you don t have any problems with your computer forget this update. BIOS update is required only if you really have problems, otherwise I don't such updated risky.

Anyway, if you download the update of the BIOS, you will need to extract all files of archive zip first before start you. Also, make sure that you are logged on as administrator.
