Satellite C660 - intermittent failure of start

Last month my Satellite C660 intermittently won't start. Frequency of failure seems to increase.

The meter turns, the fan runs for 5 seconds (sometimes 15 seconds with an increase in speed at the end) and then the machine stops.

No display of the bios.
In this case only, the PSU batteries only or both connected. With HDD inside or outside, with or without ram.

BIOS has been reset and updated and replace the bios battery.
Without losing the connections internally.

Product 19.3V DC POWER supply.
No obvious pattern as to when it will start, but when it's W7 works very well.

Would be grateful for any input.

On this virtual path, it is not easy to say with certainty what the problem, but it must be something with the motherboard. One thing would be interesting: when the operating system starts correctly can you use unlimited number of time or is just cuts off after a while?

    > That means Orange light?

If power light flashes orange, it indicates the power was cut off, while the computer was in mode 'sleep'.
But in your case I n t think that the laptop enter mode 'sleep' in your case, the power LED flashes means a hardware problem may be detected

  • Satellite C660-2EL does not start

    Hi guys,.

After a few days full of frustration here I am.

I am working on a friends Satellite C660-2EL
He was stuck in the endless loop of boot Win 7 and would not be recovered by any means.

So I decided a format was the way to go.
After the format using partition magic everything's fine.
I reinstalled Win 7 and the installation was also fine. Once the installation is complete, and it's a reboot that I decided to jump into the BIOS and change the order of boot if I put the CD Drive first. If after changing the settings and then save and quit this crap won't start at all now, no CD HD or anything else.

The toshiba screen flashes upward, but when I hit F2 now it freezes just tell to get into Setup.
When I try to hit F12 the screen goes back to the blinking cursor.
If I press anything I get the white screen with the cursor.

I saw a video on you tube to reset the CMOS, I tried it work with no luck.

    Any ideas guys?

    Hello

You want to say you have a cursor blinking in the upper left corner and the unit does not start CD or HARD drive?
The blinking cursor is above all a sign of failure of the HARD drive.

I recommend that you check the HARD drive with the help of a tool (freeware) called Drive Fitness Test.
This tool creates a bootable disk that scans the HARD drive for malfunctions.

If the HARD drive's fault, it be replaced

  • Satellite C660-268 does not start, no start screen

My laptop Toshiba Satellite C660-268 was installing updates, then it froze for half an hour, I decided to force quit by pressing the power button.

I tried power, portable could not wake up, I can hear the fan but screen is not black, no post/splash screen (Bios screen), turn on the led goes for a few seconds and then turn off. I tried to press the important function, but nothing could make my laptop boot or stay on. Please,

I need your help in order to remake my boot laptop

I think that some of the material died during update installation.
From my point of few, it was simply bad luck that this error occurred during the update of the system.

There is only one real solution: the troublemaker should be found and replaced.

Theoretically, this issue can result from memory problems, but also the failure of the motherboard. The RAM modules are not very expensive and where the RAM is faulty, the fix is not a big problem.

But in case of malfunction of the motherboard, the laptop repair could be a very costly affair.

What could be the next step?
I think if you have no experience of mainframe, you should seek some professional help and assistance.

  • Satellite C660-108 does not start if the USB Bluetooth dongle connected

    Hiya,

I hope you could help me.

I'm having a problem with my dongle bluetooth and satellite c660-108.
It all works perfectly. It connects devices via bluetooth and I can do whatever I want.

But then when I'm mobile stop and turn it on again it will go if the bluetooth dongle is always in the USB.

I see Toshiba screen and then it hangs with a black screen and a cursor flashing at the top left.
I have to turn it off, remove the bluetooth dongle and then turn it back on.
And then windows starts. After that, I put in bluetooth dongle, once again I want to work with her.

It isn't a huge problem, but it is a bit annoying when I have to leave the bluetooth and put it back again to get the windows began.
I'm running under win 8.1 but he already had with 8 victory.

    Anyone any ideas?

    > I see Toshiba screen and then it hangs with a black screen and a cursor flashing at the top left.
Especially the blinking cursor is displayed because the laptop can not find a boot device.

It seems that the device cannot put on the HARD drive while the USB dongle is connected.
I would recommend you check the boot order in the BIOS.

Put the HARD drive in the first place and the USB boot last device.
Save changes and check if it helps.

  • My Satellite C660-1UJ does not start

    Hello people,

My laptop Toshiba Satellite * c660-1uj starts up.

It does nothing when I press the powerbutton.
When I connect the poweradapter I hear a clicking sound, as it is with or without the battery and I also see the light (led) battery flashes green.

I think it has something to do with my motherboard, but I'm not sure.

I would like to be sure before you buy a new.
Does anyone know where the problem is and how to fix it?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards

    Sjoerd

    > I think it has something to do with my motherboard, but I don't know.
Yes, I think that this problem could be related to problems of motherboard.
But this would be the worst case, given that the new motherboard is very expensive part I gues guarantee is not valid?

But why you put the memory t-test? Faulty RAM memory may prevent startup laptop and power. Replace the RAM module is not very difficult.

Of course, you would need to buy new modules for verification, but maybe you could visit some technicians computer/laptop to downtown who could test the device with new RAM modules.
In this case it would be pointless to buy the parts for testing purposes only.

  • Satellite C660 is unable to start for the first time

    I have a Satellite C660 - PSC0AQ-03C019 + 1B194392K

For the last year laptop worked fine in the last 2 months, however he had a problem starting. The first starting attempt of the day, it does not start, it is consumed on gets in front of splash screens after the cursor flashing in the top left then hold with a blank screen (not the cursor just a low glow).

Hold down the power button / turn off and turn on again then the computer will start. sometimes (not always), it will ask to start normally or repair.

The laptop works perfectly in use does not fall out of mistakes. Restarting the laptop works as expected close and turn on/off after 5 minutes works great.

If the laptop is left for an hour or more, it starts the same as above. turn off and turn on/off the system will start but with boot normally the question.

He has not indicated in the error logs files

I did a full reinstall of HARD drive recovery system.
I did a full system reinstall from recovery DVDs.
I did a full system reinstall from DVD disk a hard new recovery.
    I replaced the ram

I tried to update the bios, but get an error
    BIOS version more than 200
    Battery capacity over 10%
    AC is attached

    Hello

The description of your problem is, for me, quite confusing, and I do not understand your problem.
Can your notebook load and start the preinstalled operating system or not?

Enter the BIOS and set it to default settings. After that restart your laptop and to describe what is happening exactly.

  • Satellite C660-117 - does not start, does not load

    Hello

I have a laptop Satellite C660-117, and recently I had problems with the power with her. I found that it is capricious, when it comes to the charge, and recently I have if he had sat in one place that I knew would charge like that, she decided to carry the laptop elsewhere and because not able / load power since the battery down dry. I have not tried to reconnect where I had initially (and it is not really appropriate that she be sitting in one place, mainly because it is partially in the way of a desktop system).

I tried various things, taking the battery and the AC adapter on, leaving for awhile, then connect their return and also to get out them, by pressing the power button for 30 seconds and in reconnecting him back, but the problem seems to be between the power adapter and the laptop itself (no power is going to the laptop of the sector). I also tried to use a different power adapter from another laptop, but it did not work either.

I was wondering if there was another option that I could try, or if I'm stuck with having to buy another laptop, as it is waaaaaaaaaaaay out of warranty. I'd rather not go for this option, nor can really afford to send him off for a while to be repaired because of the time it would probably.

    Thanks in advance!

If the laptop can't run with AC power only there is a problem with electronic power supply to the motherboard.
Sorry, but these questions, you need professional help. Problem is that the remedy will be quite expensive.
So perhaps the best solution for you is to sell it on ebay because several pieces of equipment can be used for replacement and buy new laptops.

  • Satellite A300 intermittently does not start

    Hello

to help you with the A300 which sometimes (recently more often) just won't start/start?
I run my A300 battery, when I press the power button / stop

    (1) fun begins
    (2) ' satellite' logo on the lower left corner will blink
    (3) drive HARD diode flashes
    (4) display lights even for a while
    (5) lightning touchpad stays off
    (6) it will continue like this for always (no activity except fan)

After a few hard reboots can occasionally start, he's absolutely perfect job.
    Any ideas?

    Thank you very much!

On this virtual path, it is not possible to say with certainty what the problem. For two weeks, I have similar problem on my A300. He won start t at all. Power LIGHT blinks two or three times and that's all that happens.

At first, it happened only sporadically, but now there is no other reaction. In my view, this is power of electronic card.
On your A300, it may be the same.

  • Satellite C660-17J does not start

My nephew of friends has a C660 which, once you turn on shows the home screen Toshiba with a Panel down showing the next "press F2 to start, press F12 to the menu of boot options. How can you define to be able to boot directly from the HARD drive without having to press F12 and select hard drive?

If everything is OK, you should not do this and portable starts automatically. Enter the BIOS settings, set it to default settings and try to restart the laptop.
What is original OS preinstalled on this machine? I mean the version of the OS that you got with it (WIN7 64-BIT HOME PREMIUM).

  • Satellite C660 - 2 EV suddenly started giving me the BSOD

Last week my laptop 2 years suddenly started giving me the BSOD. It doesn't seem to be anything that triggers it. Do not know what information I provide, but I tried a restore of the system to an earlier date, but that did not fix.

I managed to make a backup of data, and I have no recovery disks. I also bought an extended warranty last year.

I should arrange to have it repaired or is there something else I can try first?

    Thank you.

    > I provide but I tried a restore of the system to an earlier date, but that did not fix.

I put t think it's the best choice. I would recommend you to retrieve the computer laptop back to the factory settings, either using the Toshiba HDD recovery or the Toshiba recovery disc.

If BSOD would appear after the system recovery, I recommend you to check exactly the content of BSOD.
Sometimes non-compatible drivers could cause the BSOD.

But of course, also the hardware problems (memory problems) could be the reason for BSOD.
In this case, you must contact the Toshiba ASP to verify the material.

  • Satellite C660-108 does not start with 8 GB of RAM

I bought 2 x 4 GB memory modules to upgrade memory up to 8 GB.
With 8 GB installed, the laptop does not start, but he will start with 6 GB installed.
Modules 4 GB 6 GB configuration and wood East of 1.8.

    Any ideas?

    Hello

According to the manual, this laptop can be upgraded up to 8 GB of RAM.

Then you should be able to use the 2 x 4 GB RAM modules

I think that both modules are not compatible with each other and therefore cannot boot up the laptop.

You should test the laptop with the help of other modules.

  • Satellite C660 - 21Q does not start

Hi guys, new to this forum so bare with me!

    I dropped my laptop last week, on his side. Now when I turn on, it's on a black screen with the white light flashing on the upper left side. After a while, the "Toshiba" loading screen lights up (where you can seleft f2 and f12 for menus), after that black screen stays blank for a minute and it comes up with the start menu (I think). There are four options;

    HDD/SSD
    CD/DVD
    FLOPPY DRIVE
    LAN

I can get away from it, and returns a lot of text (I don't know what it says, it disappears too quickly) and it takes me right back to the start menu. When I click on enter on all these, they say that they are failed.

Can someone help me with this situation?

    > Now when I turn on, it's on a black screen with the white light flashing in the top left hand sid

Yes, it seems that the HARD drive is not found
Check the connection on the HARD drive. Maybe its loose
In the worst case, the HARD drive is bad and you need to replace the HARD drive.
You will need a SATA 2.5 HARD.

  • Satellite C660 - 19G does not start

    Hello

A few years back I bought this laptop for my girlfriend who decided finally to use internet at home.

Since day 1, this laptop had problem when start remaining mostly on black screen, with just the noise fan and battery and subsequently leads to give some signs of life.

In any case after a couple of we / off, lets start and been blame in this regard, the temperature of the room not really best, during the winter period.

After that a few months, my girlfriend gave up using it and just put back in the box where the summer rest upward last week when she gave me this return as well as other things cause the end of our relationship.

The laptop yesterday end at 1st sight and began worked on it a few hours without any problem then turned off normally.

Today instead, this laptop doesn't really want to know from any mode: no matter how much time I spend it turn off/on, but nothing.

Tried to exchange the position of the ram, the clean, the 60 seconds on the power button trick, but nothing.
The laptop yesterday was working on a table without any problem of cooling at all: now my question

What can be wrong with this portable expecially saw it was bought new off Amazon but had this problem since the day where we?

Thank you for your attention and
    BR

    Alex

    > What can be wrong with this portable expecially saw it was bought new off Amazon but had this problem since the day where we?

Hmm probably a hardware malfunction causes this problem.
I m thinking about a problem RAM or the motherboard.

You said, you already have swap the RAM slots. But did you use new, well tested the RAM modules? I think that it of certainly worth a check.

The problem of the motherboard would be the worst case because this part is very expensive.

However, if this problem has appeared since the first day of the purchase, I m wondering why this device has not been replaced in the past in terms of warranty.
