Satellite C660 - wave fan constantly BIOS problem

I have a Satellite C660, PSC0LE submodel.

The fan (CPU) is constantly growing and turn off every minute or so. He is strong and extremely intrusive / boring. It is occurs regardless of the load / CPU temperature. I have seen references to this topic, and some people have suggested that a BIOS update to fix it.

I updated my machine to the latest version available (1.40), but it is not fixed.

I see that this (PSC0LE) submodel has not later than some of the other variants (there is a version 1.8 for some other submodels C660) an update of the BIOS and I think the fan problem is solved in that.

Toshiba intends to solve this problem on the PSC0LE via a new BIOS, or y at - it another way to stop what is really distracting.

TIA,
Dan

Please try to reduce the speed of the cooling fan change advanced power options > Toshiba power Saver saver > cooling method.

For normal use I recommend to use the balanced feeding and management game, cooling method to lower the level. It should reduce the activity of fan cooling.

    Hi all!

I have the Toshiba Satellite C660-1GK for a year and a half. After 6 months, my hard drive is dead.

First the laptop has been really slow, then started the famous clatter of the disc.
I made backup and checked the disk with tools from Hirens. Toshiba diag will read even not she, Smart said that his State of health is bad bad sectors (30% or more), began to burst... I therefore took the laptop to my ASP.

They replaced the disc and then 13 months later (a week ago) the same story! Disk health went even lower (was 11%) and bad sectors initially jumping like crazy.
Once again, a trip to ASP.

I have my laptop today with a new drive. After that reading posts on this forum, I'm afraid that there or card mother/problem of power or we're just all with no luck with readers.

I just, I can't accept that the disks die randomly every 4-12 months to meet. My last drive on HP laptop lasted 4 years! I have about five more months of warranty and I'm really not satisfied with the situation. This laptop is on my desk, it has own station with nice, big fan so this isn't overheating - basically, I took out of the House in September.

I'm careful with it! But if the disk dies before the end of the year, maybe it's time to get a new laptop.
    Toshiba no, this time :(

Please, you have any ideas, advice... ?

    Hello

A few years ago, I bought a laptop from another manufacturer.
My first HARD drive died after over 2 years of use. I bought another, has replaced the old HDD and the new HARD drive died after 4 months of use.

No matter which HARD drive is going to die sooner or later because his part instrumentation it s a question of HARD drive use and the question of how you handle all.

In my opinion it s a bad luck of course sound always pity if a HARD drive starts to malfunction but I m afraid there are not many options to prevent it.
Of course, you can switch to a SSD drive which is stable in use. I did a few months ago, I bought the 250 GB SSD drive and replaced the internal HARD drive

  • Satellite C660-108 - fan keeps running

I just bought a Satellite C660-108 and pleasure keeps running all the time. Is this normal?

    Hi Judith_2,

If your laptop computer is in idle mode, it isn't normal that the fan still works. Normally it should start and stop as on other models.
But if you run some background applications such as Internet browser, Antivirus, etc., it may be normal because the CPU causes a lot of heat and it must be cooled to protect it from damage.

Anyway, you can try to change the cooling method in Windows power management. You can choose between a maximum Performance and battery optimized. If you want to reduce, change the value of the latter.
I confirm there is really a difference between the methods of cooling and optimized battery is much quieter.

    Hello

What Windows system do you use?
Have you noticed this problem since the first day?

In my opinion the CPU can be emphasized by a process that runs in the background. This means that the CPU runs at 80-100%, and this means that the cooling system run more fast to cool the CPU.
I think you should start the Task Manager and check the running processes.
There you can see the processes that use a lot of CPU performance.

Perhaps these processes belong to the installed software or tools so if you n t know exactly what a single process doing, google for more details on this process.

Easiest solution? Well, it would be interesting to know if the new OS install would avoid this I think that its worth a check...

    I have a laptop model C660-115 (PSCOLE).

Given that I made an update of the BIOS (in vs 1.40) my WIFI doesn't work anymore.

  • Re: Satellite C660 - cooling fan work with a bang

    Hello

Recently my computer laptop cooling fan started running continuously with a loud noise. When the screen is idle, it stops for a few seconds and start again. I changed the power balance in the Panel options, but it did not work. Even the BIOS is the most recent. Referring to discussion forums, I've changed to "selective startup" thru "msconfig" but nothing worked.

He is 8 months old. The noise is very disturbing. Can someone please help me with this?

    Thank you very much
    Sammy

    Hey Buddy,

    > Referring to discussion forums, I've changed to "selective startup" thru "msconfig".
I never heard of something like that

Have you already tested it with cooling optimized battery method? Profile of balanced diet also uses maximum performance for cooling must change the power profile and choose the battery optimized for each profile on the battery and the AC adapter power / cooling CC. Information on all power plan options, you can find here:

You wrote that your laptop is already 8 months old. You clean in the past?

  • Satellite C660-125 - cannot access BIOS after upgrade to Windows 10

Hello, I just upgraded to 10 Windows Home of Windows 7 and now HWSETUP. EXE is not running and when restart the laptop I can't enter the BIOS with F2 or F12. Can someone companion please? Kind regards

You must install the driver from Toshiba for Windows 10 system.
However the C660 does not seem to be in the supported list, you may need to go into BIOS instead.

Hold SHIFT key during shutdown to shut down Windows hybrid suspension mode. Keep now SHIFT until the power goes out.
The BIOS F2 message appears only if the laptop is a cold start.

  • Satellite C850D-109 - fan to solve problem

I bought this machine to be used as a media center hooked up to stereo and tv for movies and music. During set up, I noticed that the fan never switched off when the pc is running on ac. While I was updating Windows, BIOS and installing software I don't mind because it tends to highlight the things a bit. I used several times on battery and noticed that the fan has come on only when necessary.

    It came down to this:
-* On ac * fan runs always * at least 50% * according to the Toshiba PC health monitor.
The machine can be slowed, but * the fan will never stop *. While writing this post processor, the temperature is 36%. According to the specifications of the processor that would be 36 degrees, cold enough to not need the fan for a while.
-* By pulling the power cord * let the casting machine * battery *, makes the fan to a slight increase in speed before him * in stoppage time 15 seconds only to start when necessary *.

    I've lived:
    -Updated BIOS 1.10
-Play with BIOS-setting of the CPU to the still weak
-J' modified the parameters of power with or without Toshiba saver installed to use passive cooling.
-J' put other power settings in Windows optimized for battery to do equal batterymode and ac-mode.

SpeedFan 4.46 can't find no fan controller and can not be used to control the fan.

    Can anoyone confirm my results?

    * I encourage Toshiba to make the fan control alternative current slot based on the same parameters as for battery mode.*
I'm looking forward to an update of the BIOS in the not to distant future.

Let's see if Toshiba will do anything on this subject. It's so boring to use the laptop when the fan is noisy and never stops. Maybe new BIOS update is available soon.
The only thing that can be done right now is the change in the method of the profile used cooling power option.
Notepad using optimized battery option runs a bit quieter.

  • Satellite C660-2ED1 - resetting the Bios password

One of my clients was spotted by a scammer to phone and the result is that the laptop now has a power on password.

On this model how reset you the BIOS?

    Jim

    Hello Jim

BIOS password is very important security feature so BIOS technical removal may not be topic of public discussion.
This information can be shared on the public forums. I hope you understand what I mean.

As far as I know Toshiba uses several techniques how to remove BIOS password and I linked to the model of laptop.
If the BIOS password needs to be removed, it can be done by the Toshiba service provider. The closest Toshiba ASP contact in your country, explaining the situation and they will help you with this problem.

  • Re: Satellite C660/1J2 and new BIOS

    Hello
I wonder if anyone can help, count it has bios win-1, 90 published February 2012, looked today and they have issued a new bios 1.70 dated 06/01/2012.

What gives there is no recording of version 1.90 and I guess 1.70 is much earlier? and if we do a search on the web (Toshiba site not) it shows toshiba 1.90 as last.

Before someone asking why I need the Bios, sometimes have improvements

    Thank you
    Tony Miller

I ve checked the support page Toshiba and you are right. Available BIOS version is 1.70. I put t know why the lower version number is available in the latest BIOS update.

In any case, consult the Toshiba page days. Maybe any new version will be available.
But let's be realistic, if your laptop works well you don't need BIOS update. If you don t have a few problems serious don t change anything.

  • Satellite P30-141 - fan constantly running

Laptop for a few years now and can't remember but don't fan run always.
    Its really irritating.

The fan is not at full speed but runs of course.
Power settings do not seem to help.

    Your thoughts.

Well, what to say. The fan should run continuously to cool the internal devices like CPU and GPU.

But a question; have you tried to change the settings in the Toshiba Power saver?
I mean in particular the method of cooling, CPU control method and CPU processing speed settings.

    Please check everything first.

If it doesn't help then I think that there is not much to do because the BIOS to control the rotation of the fan, and this cannot be changed.

By the way; did you check if the fans are free and that the air circulates properly?
    Check it!

  • Satellite C660 - 1 H 6 graphics problems (ATI 5470) white pixels

    Hi all

I apologize for my English. I'm Italian.

My pc has a very embarrassing failure... during normal use of the pixels see you crazy. You see the boring white pixels.
There is not much, but especially for graphics work, it's bad.

I have already restored the PC once installed the ATI driver from Toshiba's official website, but the problem persists.
I also tried the drivers from the site of amd, but the problem persists.

If you can help the problem becomes much more pronounced after the return from the suspension. In this case, the office you see really bad with all the pixels in trouble.

If you need additional information or tell me that I can make the tests as well.

    Thank you.

    Hello

I m not quite sure if it s internal display issue or maybe a graphics card problem
That's why you need to connect and external monitor to check what's exactly wrong

Usually, the graphics card is affected if the pixels of same would appear on the second monitor.

But if the image on the external monitor would be OK, so the graphics chip should be ok too and in this case, the display internal for laptop is defective

But in both cases, it would be expensive to fix the laptop, because the two parties are not cheap.
