Satellite C660D - Boot problems

I had my Tosh for over a year now, so out of warranty, but should still work. Sometimes at the present time, the comp will freeze completely, which ensures a restart, but on re-booting, I get the familiar if please insert disc to start or select drive, the pxe rom error, check for errors of cables (something like that I don't remember the exact wording).

After I left the computer off for the night, these problems seem to set and the computer starts normally. I first thought it would be a mistake to HD but which seems to work very well when it starts properly.

Any suggestions as to what could be causing this?

EDIT - this is a Satellite C660D-153 - 4 GB memory & hard drive 640 GB

> I get the familiar please insert disc to start or select drive, the pxe rom error, check cables errors

The PXE error message appears because the laptop is trying to boot from LAN.
Why the laptop switches to LAN automatically?

In most cases, the laptop can not find the bootable HARD disk system and this means that the HARD drive is malfunctioning it would also be an explanation for the issue of the gel

    Hello

Usually, this message would appear if something is not wrong with the cooling system. But I read here in the forum that maybe it's a bug of software and after new system recovery this message should no longer appear.

But if you notice some upper temperature or abnormal noises, then I recommend to check this with a service technician

  • Satellite A660 - boot problems USB after BIOS update

    Hello

I own a Toshiba Satellite A660 and have recently updated the BIOS with the latest version (1.80). Since then, the laptop freezes on the splash screen (the one with the Toshiba logo) whenever a USB flash memory is attached.
It works without the memory flash connected and if I connect it after I enter the starting or the BIOS Setup menu. I can even start her like that.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a serious regression. Is there a way I can downgrade to the version of the BIOS, or any other way to solve this problem? I rely heavily on external USB drives.

    Kind regards
    Claudiu.

    Claudiu salvation,

That is really interesting, I have to say so I tested on my new Satellite A660 and Transcend 4 GB USB Stick. Well, I also installed 1.80 BIOS but I can t view this problem HARD drive is set as first boot device and all the other BIOS settings are default. The Toshiba screen and Windows computer starts as usual.
    No problem at all!

Have you tested different USB devices?

In General, it is not possible to downgrade BIOS. It is possible to an authorized service because Toshiba on page you can download the latest version only but I doubt it s a bug in the new version of BIOS because it works on my A660.

  • Satellite L50D - Boot problems after replacing the hard drive

I just upgraded my hard drive of the pathetic crod 5400 they provide to a SSHD@7200rpm, but now have a major issue.

I initially image the operating system from the old hard drive to the new drive and have had chronic start-up problems (1-3-4 attempts to start to succeed if it fails at any time (often to the Toshiba start screen)).

I reinstalled from a drive under Win 8.1 plain own ENT (trying to avoid the bloatware) and it is exactly the same number and is what I used to format the laptop very well with previously and had previously worked.

I tried reformatting and reinstalling (by removing all partitions on each attempt) to the CSM, unsafe UEFI and UEFI secure. MCS is a straight line never works not proceed and both UEFI methods have the same exact result.

I tried with original restore disks and it seems to work (not had time to fully test) but I don't want the bloatware and it shouldn't be serious since, if I were a customer who forgot to make restore disks (too often) and just have to have a failed hard drive or replaced sacrificed the laptop would be now a door stop.

This seems as bad as Apple to lock people in.

So I would appreciate ideas of people to please, I don't know if there is a program that is supposed to take place on a new drive as PS3 etc (I doubt it), but that leads me into the wall, and will be the last time that I consider Toshiba as anything other than a joke, if there is no solution.

I had to replace the hard disks many times in my previous Toshiba laptops and were devoid of this crod, it has something to do with UEFI which seems more a nuisance than a help right now.

    TIA.

    Hello

In my opinion, you should first check if the startup problem is related to the new installed HARD drive or new installed system.
You said that the laptop fails to start up often to the Toshiba start screen.

The splash screen appears during the POST (power on self-test) procedure. During this test, the material will be checked.
I m wondering if the hybrid SSD/HDD isn't recognised by the BIOS during this particular step.

From my point of few, this could be the reason why the system cannot be started.

    Another important note:
The 8.1 win requires enable start secure as well as the UEFI boot mode.
Therefore, you must enable both options in the BIOS.

Last but not least check if you are using the latest BIOS version as latest firmware for the hybrid SSD/HDD

  • The disk on the Satellite A60 boot problem

I have a Satellite A60, I thought that the HARD drive was not on.

When you turn on the machine, it goes beyond the POST screen and starts with the startup of Windows XP, I get the blue bars moving and the XP logo then IT just freezes.

Replaced the HARD drive for a brand new, re-installed the OS but I have the exact problem in the same exact spot.

    Any help appreciated

    Hello

If reinstalling the system does not work, you can try to reinstall the BIOS. If not help too, the problem must be hardware related. Your only chance is a service partner, cause then you can't do it yourself.

  • Re: Satellite L500D - boot problem after BIOS update

I downloaded the new version of BIOS (v1.4) official Toshiba site to update my computer Satellite L500D (PSLK0A - 00U009). But after the update, Windows 7 cannot start, Windows logo appears for a while then it restarts automatically. Windows then goes into repair mode. I followed the instructions on the screen to fix. But it does not work.
When I reinstalled Windows, the computer worked fine until Windows Update told me to restart the computer. The computer dies again.

I think that this version of BIOS has a problem. I wonder if there is a way to downgrade the BIOS to the earlier version. I found some instructions on the net to use the Phoenix recovery disk, but I have no file disk and BIOS.
    Please Please HELP, very appreciate.

Try to install the OS to help original Toshiba recovery image. After disabling automatic Microsoft updates to install. When you get the message about controlled initially available updates and install important updates only.

  • Satellite C660D boot - update of the BIOS has not

    Hello

In recent days, I get a blue screen of death with the error 'whea_uncorrectable_error', I read something about the BIOS update, because the error is probably caused by the previous version of the BIOS. I gave the updated correctly, but as soon as restarting my laptop, nothing has been started.

The fan and the keyboard work but nothing else. I tried to remove the RAM, remove the CMOS battery, pulling on the battery and holding the power button, but nothing seems to work.

Can you please help me and tell me how to recover my BIOS?

because the error is probably caused by the previous version of the BIOS.

Older version of BIOS does not BSOD... cause the BSOD appeared during the last day, but I guess the laptop worked correctly in the past under the old version of BIOS... the BIOS could not the problem here...

However, the fact is that the laptop is dead now... probably because the update process was interrupted due to the BSOD...

From my point of few the EPROM has to be re-flashed again using BIOS crisis disk...

Some people tried to solve this similar problem using the 3rd party crisis disk (use forum search the crisis disk to find similar topics), but it still does not...

That's why I think that in most cases only the Toshiba ASP may be able to reflash the EMPRO using the original disk of crisis

I have a Satellite C660D, and normally a day off it will start is no longer. No lights on the laptop at all. Have tested the lead/charger and it works very well, do not know how to test the battery and there are a multitude of pins. It seems that there is no life at all, won't boot no whirring of fans or lighting of the screen etc.

Any help would be appreciated. He is now out of warranty.

Hmmm, it's not easy to say what the problem is here.
Unplug the AC adapter / CC, remove the battery and press the power for 30 seconds. Having done this connect adapter only and try to start your laptop.

What happens when you do this? Is there a reaction?

  • Re: Satellite C660D - 10 d - problems with updates of drivers

    Greetings from Greece

    We bought a toshiba Satellite C660D - 10 d. It came with windows7 64-bit.
After the windows installation and updates of windows updates, that I entered toshiba for updating readers, some of them was not installed.

Then, the internet was very slow so I did a Hijack this scan to see what is happening.
I discovered that many services that had to do with system32 is missing files.

So first, I can post a HJT log for you, so if possible you can explain why this happens and you drivers that I could not update the list?
I have also another question to u... can you please tell me how to work the bluetooth on the system?
I hope you understand my questions because my English are not so good,

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

If the automatic driver update didn't work properly, then try downloading the drivers only manually and try the update again.
You can find all the drivers on the European driver Toshiba page.
But why update drivers if laptop running ok? I think that it s is not necessary if you have no problems.

    > can u please tell me how to work the bluetooth on the system?

  • Satellite C660D - issues with SATA Toshiba MK5065GSX 500 GB HARD drive

    Hello

I have problems with a Toshiba MK5065GSX SATA 500 GB from a Satellite C660D client.

Cannot start the machine: was doing a start-up and factory default restore comes up with error, so does not actually load Windows. Therefore impossible to use connected diags. This machine does not appear to be any disk diagnostic on boot options

Where are the diagnostic utilities to download in order to test the hard drive?

    Thanx

    Hello

AFAIK, you can't simply make a copy of the recovery on the new HARD disk image and start the recovery image installation. In General, for the recovery image installation, you have bootable recovery media. She may be resumed DVD or USB recovery media.

On older machines, recovery image was recorded on the second partition of HARD drive. It could be that, in your case, recovery image is recorded on the hidden partition. This title has this restore partition?

If there is possibility to make the copy of the recovery image, you can try is to check if the method described on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD4103KB0000R01.htm will work for you.

By the way: your client was forced to create a recovery media and create backup recovery image. It is clearly described in manuals s therefore, in General, it is not your problem if you can't access the recovery image.
In the worst case, you can explain to the client that there is no possibility for you to make the original recovery image installation and you can order the new disc of recovery for him.
It can be done on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • Satellite C660D - media failure PXE - E61: media test failure, check cable of

    Hello

hope I can help with this problem.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660D, which I bought in 2011 and he has recently started to act, whenever I try to pass on it tells me

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller series V2.38 (24/12/10)
PXE - E61: media test failure, check cable.
PXE - MOF: Exit PXE ROM
    Operating system not found

This problem started when I tried to install the new operating system (Win 7 32 bit) on my hard drive of the windows partition, this instillation was a success, and I even managed to create a user profile after installation.

However, as soon as I logged on to the computer says me he wants to get back out to check my windows and it did it automatically and since then he never restart and tells me that this media test failure error.

I checked my hard drive if that work by connecting it as external on another computer and its still fine with everything that always there, I deleted and reintroduced it a couple of times, but always the media test failure still occur, I even tried to change the sequence of start several times, including the default settings , but the problem still persists.

I have two laptops of the same type and both of them give me the same problems, I am running out of ideas on how to fix this problem any help will be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello
This message means that the system was not found on the HARD drive and the next boot device was LAN. But unit was not able to boot from LAN and so this PXE error appeared.

You said that the HARD drive is OK. Well, what is the status of the HARD drive in the BIOS?
HDD is recognized correctly in the BIOS on the first page of the BIOS?

Where it is, you should try to reinstall the system once more.
In the case of the disk HARD isn't visible in the BIOS, you must replace it.

The problem - since a few years, I used a desktop computer and connected to the internet via modem wide empty tape and USB connection. Last week bought a Satellite C660D installed Windows 7 os provided and tried to connect with my modem, but failed miserably.

I get the error message 651 but do not understand why.
I use wired ethernet (because my friend does on their laptop) and tried the cable on their system, and it worked very well, so I don't think it's that.

If someone is kind enough to explain what I do, I'll be able to keep this computer connected to the internet with usb and connect the laptop with an ethernet at the same time, so I can read the instructions while I go or I'll have to print the instructions and disconnect the Office before retrying the laptop? Yes, I'm dumb and I'm not even blonde, lol

If I understand you right you have the same problem using a LAN and WLAN connectivity. Is this good?

If so, I think that there is a problem with your router. Reboot the router and check all the settings there.

In the worst cases it set to the factory settings and basic stuff just for the Internet without playing with other settings there.

Did you maybe test it connect your laptop to another router?
