  How shocking, that is.

  Brand new laptop. Used for 2 days, in total 3 hours Max tried to stop
  the laptop tonight and I can't.

  I just bought a Satellite Pro A300 and it downgraded to Windows XP SP3.

  When I click the icon of any folder on my hard drive I got the "Windows Search" window instead of the folder. When I right click on any folder icon, the first item on the menu (in bold) is "search".

  How can I change the order of these items in menu so as 'Open' is the first element?

  Just solved my problem:

  1. the order of the items in the context menu of files can be changed by updating actions for file types specified in the Folder Options Menu. Select Folder Options + of + the + Tools + menu of any folder, select + File Types + and scroll to the bottom for * file *. Click on * advanced * then * New * and add * open * with * Explorer * as the program to use. Click on * OK * and * Close * and bingo! Appears in the order of the menu shortcut in XP is open before you search, but in XP Pro followed research of Open / Explore.

  I would add as well as my ultimate goal is to put windows 8 on my macbook air - either that or wait until I can buy a new pc - mac just doesn't work for me... and not for lack of trying.

  There is no 'upgrade' directly from XP to 7 (or 8).  That said, it is fairly simple to do a cleanup (or as MS now call, "custom") installation of Windows 7 on a computer running XP.  The key is to make sure that Windows 7 drivers for the different bits of hardware are available from the manufacturer of the laptop first.  You should also back up all your personal data and obtain the installation media for all your application programs.

  Toshiba does not any serial key for activation of the system.
  In most cases, computers laptop Toshiba are preinstalled with Windows that is already activated system or activation would be done during the first internet connection.

  I suppose that you did create recovery media that would allow you to recover the laptop to factory condition. This recovery disc (medium) could be created using the preinstalled software Toshiba Recovery Media Creator.
  It s always advisable to create this media because the HARD drive may begin to malfunction and in this case, it is not possible to perform HARD drive recovery procedure.
