Satellite L30-105 Dual Boot with XP Possible
Hello
I have a Satellite L30-105, and while I do not particularly like Vista, I need to keep it for various reasons. However, I must also now use the laptop with a piece of hardware (a North G2 synthesizer) who does no Vista drivers.
So I think the best thing I can do is to create a dual boot system, but a lot of articles on the net say you need from your CD original Vista, and of course the laptop does not come with one.
So what I want to do possible? And there at - it a guide for how to do this? I have an XP license and the CD that I can use for this.
Hello
I installed the XP and Vista on my laptop.
It was a little difficult because the XP installation crushed the Vista MBR (master boot record) and the Boot Manager.
But I solved it by using the original CD of Vista. I had to borrow from a friend.
I booted from CD of Vista and it repaired the Vista Boot Manager.
Then I installed the tool called EasyBCD and set up the Vistas Boot Manager.
That helped get XP and Vista on two different partitions.

Satellite U940 PSU6VA - Dual boot with Ubuntu based distributions
_ * My specifications: * _
* Model: * Toshiba Ultrabook (Satellite PSU6VA - 00S 002 U940)
* Operating system: * Windows 8.1 x 64 (upgrade of Windows 8 x 64)I would like to set up my computer to dual boot with Windows 8.1 (x 64) and Zorin OS 9.1 (64-bit).
ZORIN OS is a derivative of Ubuntu which maintains a binary compatibility with Ubuntu i.e. Ubuntu and Zorin use the same drivers and can run the same applications. John Damascene is more or less just Ubuntu with a different desktop environment and some additional preinstalled applications.
So far, I know that I need to disable the QuickStart Windows 8.1. What I have to do something else (for example disable Secure Boot, CSM, etc.)?
In addition, my Ultrabook comes with 2 hard drives: 500 GB HARD drive and a 30 GB SSD. Windows uses the HARD disk for storage and for implementing SSD caching, through technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Is it possible to set up John of Damascus to do so (preferably without disabling caching on Windows)?
NOTE: I prefer to do things using graphical interfaces, rather than the CLI. I don't mind given CLI instructions; also just showed me the GUI equivalents if possible. I use the CLI if there is no alternative.

Hello
See my responses / comments among your questions (I took part of your message and inserted here):

Answer: If you want to dual-boot, do NOT select WSC as preventing Windows to start.
You shouldn't have to disable startup secure either, but I can't promise that. I think that Ubuntu 14 has support for secure boot.In addition, my Ultrabook comes with 2 hard drives: 500 GB HARD drive and a 30 GB SSD. Answer: No, I don't think that there is a way to use the SSD in Zorin without making it unusable for Windows.
Suggestion - let it be.Tom BR

Satellite L305-S5939 - Dual boot with Linux
I recently bought the notebook title mentioned for my studies in computer programming that will require me to dual boot with Linux.
I decided to use Ubuntu and their instructions for upward the dual boot parameters are simple. However, I heard from people having problems with the settings of the BIOS on other brands when said is finished.
Before I embark on this journey, I want to just make sure that everything is set to avoid problems.Unfortunately, I have not found much information about Dual boot with Linux and Toshiba L305s.
Other than the basic principles of what I need to do before installing?I think that a dual boot on the Satellite L305 should not be a problem because you can do it on every laptop or PC.
If you want Ubuntu you should take a look on Wubi
http://wubi-Installer.org/
It of pretty easy to use and in my opinion the best way to install Ubuntu on a system dual boot. -
24 b017c: 24 - b017c dual boot with Win7 possible?
The b017c is capable of running WIN7 pro in anyway shape?
I really need to do a system dual boot with WIN7 If Yes. WIN10 is not be nice to some specific software Attorney that I need to have to work for a client. Win7 is the latest OS, this software is compatible with before an upgrade of expensive software can't be compatible with Win8 or higher (we're talking $1000-2000 range).
I tried to install WIN7 on this computer after the partitioning of the disk space, and put out several settings in the bios (I had error btw), but WIN7 keeps hanging in the first screen after loading the drivers (language selection screen). Something happens where ports USB closing killing all connections to the mouse and keyboard. I have tried many changes in the bios settings and a retry of the WIN7 Installer (from an installation disc) but no dice.
Is there a certain combination of settings that must be disabled in the bios to get the win7 Installer right or I'm screwed?
Thanks for any help
What an adventure!
As you discovered, you must completely format the drive as one or the other (GPT or MBR). You cannot format a GPT partition and the other in the MBR.
I wonder if you had back and disabled the legacy mode, if W7 would let you install on the GPT - or partition if the disabling legacy mode would also have permitted secure boot.
In any case, it's water under the bridge.
Drivers... Here are some that may work...
First install the driver from the Intel chipset and restart the PC. A 2nd on the left is the automatic installation file.
See if this graphics driver works... 3rd one down on the left is the automatic installation file.
Audio: Accept the agreement. Download and install the 2nd driver on the list.
Ethernet: Download, unzip and install the 2nd driver on the list.
Card reader: download, unzip and install the driver from the 1st on the list.
Wireless: 2nd pilot down on the left.
Bluetooth: 2nd one down on the left.

Satellite Pro L300 - Dual boot with the AHCI mode
Type of product > Notebook
Family > Satellite Pro
Product series > Satellite Pro L series
Model > Satellite Pro L300 24L
Model short-term > PSLB9EHello.
XP and Seven is installed in dual-boot on my laptop and I use EasyBCD to choose which system I want to start.
To start XP, I need to enable "Compatibility" (Controller SATA in BIOS mode) and seven is "AHCI" must be activated.
Is there a way for my two OS was started without making changes in the bios?
Y at - it an update to correct this problem (or alternative)?Thank you in advance.
MarcYes you can do it but I'm afraid, you must reinstall Windows XP Home edition m.
Why? Because before beginning to install Windows XP Home edition, you must change it to AHCI mode, launch the installation of Windows XP Home edition and before you start you need to load the SATA driver (via F6 I think).Long time ago, we have discussed a lot about this on this forum then use the advanced search anc check options other postings on this subject.

Satellite L450-171 - Dual boot with Windows 7 and Windows XP
Hi all
I bought a Satellite L450-171 with pre-installation of Windows 7. For reasons of compatibility, I installed Windows xp on an another computer partitition. But in the marketing, I don't see the two operating systems. I don't see Windows xp.
Please how can I do to be able to also run Windows 7?
Thank you in advance.
Hi josedunet_1,
Normally the start menu where you can change between the two BONES will be created if you install XP first and than Windows 7.
Now in your case, you need to change the boot sector. Therefore, you can use a tool with GUI like EasyBCD. You can manage it in just a few clicks.
Check it! ;) -
Problems with Benq DC C 700 digital camera on the Satellite L30 105
Hello
I have problems with my digital camera when I connect it to my laptop. Whenever I connect the camera to the laptop freezes and gives me the blue screen of death, in other words, the screen you get when a fatal error occurs, and then my laptop must be restarted. If this happens whenever I connect the two.
I tried the bios update and install the latest orders, but nothing seemed to work. I contacted the support center in Benq and they told me to contact Toshiba as they are sure that the problem is not with the camera. So please someone, if you have any ideas or suggestions or solutions, I'll be happy to hear.
Thank you!
Hello
First of all if you need Toshiba support, you will need to contact Toshiba authorized service partner in your country. This forum here is only a forum for users and you won't find anyone from Toshiba here.
On the other hand;
It seems that the Satellite L30-105 has been bundled with Vista. Using this operating system on the L30?
I read on many problems with the 3rd devices, software, and Windows Vista.I put t know what said you, but eventually the software webcam is not 100% compatible with Vista.
You should know that the BSOD appears if there is a serious hardware problem or software. I don t think that this problem was caused by a hardware issue and so there is only one possibility; software compatibility issues. In case you I would update the Vista of the State and I will ask manufacturing webcam if it s 100% compatible with Vista.
Good luck

Satellite L30-105: an Intel Pentium Dual Core slogan says, but I have Celeron
Hello
My machine has an Intel pentium, near the touchpad sticker that says "* Pentium Dual Core inside." But then the information system listed my CPU as * Celeron *...
Have I been duped and is this false advertising?
Thank you

Hello
I have goggled a bit and found that this laptop Satellite L30-105 was certainly equipped with the Intel Pentium Dual-Core CPU T2060 1.6 GHz.
I m similar L30 owner as a second notebook and at first start, I noticed that the Device Manager recognized the incorrect CPU.
I've simply removed the entry CPU since the Device Manager and rebooted again the Vista again recognized the CPU and advised the right CPU.Please check this box. Maybe it helps.

Satellite L30-105 will not boot after memory expansion
Hello
I have a Toshiba Satellite L30-105, with 1 GB of memory (2 X 512 MB modules).
I bought 2 X 1 GB-compatible modules to extend the memory to its max. When I install the two new modules the laptop won't boot. I tried to install one at the time and both work individually. I also tried 1 X 512 MB
and 1 X 1 GB, which also worked.Help I have updated the bios but still can not computing for work with 2 GB of memory?
Thank you
RebmarkI am also interested what compatible modules you use.
Just FYI: your laptop model can handle with 2 GB RAM and compatible module - 1 GB DDR2-400/533 (PA3411U-1M1G).

Satellite C850 - 19(d) - I want to do a dual boot with Linux and Win 8
Last week I had a Satellite C85O - PSCBWE-03200WGR 19(d)
Yesterday, I try to make a dual boot with Ubuntu.
I do not have a start to boot from USB, or iso CD (same choices as for the Toshiba application), and I did one on the bios:
-Disable secure boot
-Change UEFI CSM support
-SaveOn reboot, I get not Toshiba logo, but a black screen with:
«This product is covered by one or more of the following patents:...» (list of patents...)
Realtek...
PXE - E61: Media test faliure check cable
PXE - MOF: Exit PXE ROM
"No boot device - insert boot and press a key.I can't open the Bios again at F2.
Which I recover the system?
Hello
The unit has been pre-installed with Win 8 64 bit right?
Change BIOS setting of UEFI to CSM and disabling secure boot prevent Notepad to start 8 to win!
That's why the device cannot find the boot device and passes to the last option: LAN.
But given that the laptop can not find bootable system via LAN, the error PXE - E61: Media test faliure check cable appears. If you want to use a dual boot, you will need to boot into Win 8
Win 8 you must create a partition for installing Linux. This can be down in Win 8 disk management. It must reduce a last partition and have to create new free space available. Now to start installing Linux you need support... you can burn the iso on DVD or a USB bootable Linux. There are a lot of details on the internet how to create these media.
Once you have created the bootable USB key, restart your PC with USB connected.
Press F12 for the boot menu. Now you should see the key USB (if it is bootable!) choose USB and you should be able to install Linux (Ubuntu is great!)Here's a nice page that would provide the statement all step by step!

How to create a dual boot with Vista installed on my Satellite U400?
Hello
I just bought a U400 - 17 H with vista installed on the HARD drive. I would like to create a dual boot with XP Pro.
I have only a drive HARD aleady with 2 partitions (1 for vista) + 1 for data.
I want to cut the partition vista in two 2 pieces to install XP Pro.
At the end I'll have 3 partitions 1 vista (65 MB), 1 xp (65 MB) and 1 data (125 MB).Is it easily to create a new partition ok (I guess only on vista)
but is there a program dedicated to install another OS and create a dual boot. Please help me because I like many things the other way around. I'm sure it's possible, but what are the right process to have at the end of two BONES and the choice at the start of the laptop
Thank you
GerardHello!
Create a new partition for Windows XP and install it. There is no problem.
After that, you need to restore the Windows Vista boot loader. You can do this with EasyBCD. Install and start the program.
Go to the tab "Add/Remove entries". You will see that there is only one option available in the bootloader of Vista at the moment. In the "Add an entry" section, replace the drive in the menu drop-down of C:\ E:\. Change Type "Windows NT / 2 k/XP / 2 k 3" and the name of "Microsoft Windows XP". Then click on 'Add an entry' and 'save '.
Then go to the "Manage Bootloader" tab make sure "Reinstall the Vista Bootloader" is selected, then click on "write the MBR.Now you can restart the laptop and you should have a full system dual boot to work.
Good bye

> Satellite Pro L40 - how to make a dual boot with two recovery disks?
Short answer: you can't do that. Maybe if you have two hard disks (I tried didn't) but as much as I know your SP L40 has only one.
Ask this smart guy, how to do this. Maybe it's a useful tip. -
Memory not correct system on Satellite L30-105
I just purcased a Satellite L30-105. It is supposed to be 1024 MB (1 GB) of Ram installed.
Windows and the BIOS see 894Mb
In the BIOS it reads memory system: 633 MB
Extended memory: 894 MBShould he not see the complete 1024Mo?
Can I have a problem with the installed memory? Thanks a lot for any advice.
Hello
I completely agree with Abe83.
The graphics card shares memory with the main memory of the laptop and the free difference appears so as a memory system.
It s nothing unusual and everything is ok with your laptop! Don t worry buddy ;) -
Satellite L30-105 does not recognize the 1 GB of additional RAM
Hi there I hope someone can help me
I have a Satellite L30-105 PSL33E, which came with 1 GB of ram installed (2 x 512 MB made by TeamViewer)
and it's terribly slow with vista, not to mention programs.
The toshiba website says max RAM is 2 GB, so I bought a Kingston 1 GB ram chip to increase the ram to 1.5 GB. I thought should try before moving to 2 GBHowever after installing memory vivid it's show still only 1 GB in windows and in the bios (894 + the rest for video). It has the latest available BIOS on the site 3.10, yet still does not recognize the chip.
The chip is installed in the lower slot, including the original 512 at the top (closest to the keyboard)
Are limited to only some of the Satellite of RAM?
The old subjects indicate if kingston does not work try corsair.
Other topics suggested to change slots
Others suggest that it may have only two of the same ram chips in IE 2 x 512 or 2 x 1 GB, you may not have 1 of eachCan anyone help? everyone knows about similar problems?
I will not buy any more RAM to try different brands for the same issue to occur
Hello
The L30-105 is able to manage the 1024Mo modules in each location it should be able to update the RAM up to 2 GB.
> Why the RAM 1 GB module cannot be recognized?
Perhaps the two modules are not compatible with each other
I would recommend using two identical modules of the same manufacturing
I use Kingston modules, they are ok for me -
Satellite L30-105: how to change shared video memory on Vista...
My question is the same as we can read on this url:
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=20578But the solution only works with windows xp, anyone know a driver version with which the 'frame buffer' tab is present?
The latest version of the driver is installed on my Satellite L30-105(catalyst 7.6), 128 MB are shared, but 32 will be enough for me.Thanks in advance

Hello
I think the problem is that Vista graphic driver does not support this option.
The option described in the in the other thread was available in the argument XPOS.But why would you change? On my L30 128 MB shared memory are activated, but the laptop uses only 64 MB if I put t run all applications performance.
The pilot controls the amount of shared memory automatically. You can se under control panel-> display-> advanced settings
In the map tab, you can see total graphic memory available (in my case 128 MB) and system memory shared (64 MB)By the way; I don't think that 32 MB graphics memory may be sufficient if you're running Vista
