Satellite L30 - 11 d: update Bios to boot from USB

I have a Satellite L30 11(d) bought Sept 07.

I'm interested in trying to boot from USB, at the present time, my bios does not.
I am looking to update my bios. There is a updated bios updated for me to download (3.10WIN).

I have 3 questions:

(1) 3.10WIN allows to boot from USB?

(2) is 3.10WIN related to the use of MS Vista? (Looking at this article , it seems that the new phoenix / toshiba bios only allows panoramas...?)

(3) how to settle?

(with ubuntu 7.10 works well... aside from the sound)

As to the question;

(1) No, it is not possible to boot from a memory stick USB HDD or USM

(2) each BIOS for each series of Toshiba notebook is different! Please don t no matter what other laptop computer BIOS or fixed PCs. Satellite L30 - 10 d belongs to the series of the 3,10 and PSL33E BIOS is OS independent. If your laptop comes with XP then the BIOS supports XP completely. Of course, you can try to install Vista but it is possible that some features of the laptop as FN keys will be does not work

(3) the BIOS should always be done in the Windows operating system. As you can see on the page of the Toshiba driver the BIOS version is called 3.10Win - version

Greetings

  • Tecra 8000: update of the Bios allows booting from USB?

    Hello

I have Toshiba Tecra 8000 (simple 266 MHZ)
Will be this bios bios-t8000-930 - trad.zip (08/26/02) allow you to boot from USB?

    Hello

As far as I know, you need a supported drive to boot from external USB drive.
The update of the Bios won't boot options.
If you want you can ask for the readers supported ASP.
    I found this site one:

It s a Toshiba CD - RW / DVD-ROM combo wit reader PC Card interface.

  • Satellite A100 - 920 PS9AA: 5,60 a BIOS update broke to boot from USB

After upgrading the bios on my 920 to the last 5.60 a100 I can no longer boot from attached USB memory sticks or hard drives.

Is this a known issue? Can I go back to an older bios and if so where can I find? If not how much time it will be a fix, or is there something I can try to fix in the meantime.

    Help! It's really frustrating!

Talk of the old 'if it isn't broken don't fix' bite me back.

    Hello

Really boot from the USB key?
To my knowledge, this only is not possible and not supported.
Only start the HDD, ODD, LAN or USB FDD is possible, but not USB or HDD USB key.
But the A100 is one of the new series of laptop and maybe the initialization of the USB memory was included.

Have you checked the HWSetup Toshiba? This tool supports different options you can control the priority to start this utility!
Check if the USB is available and has been first in tab Boot Priority.

Regarding the downgrade to BIOS; I think that something like that is not possible because only the latest versions of BIOS are available on the Toshiba page.
But if you wish, you can contact the ASP in your country for details and perhaps the technician could downgrade the BIOS to the version of last second.

    Please help.

Given that HP did not respond, I kept searching for answers.

The anniversary of 10 Windows Update yesterday failed with the error:

"We could not update system reserved partition."

So I searched for the error and found this MS support document: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3086249

It seems that HP had broke the 100 MB EFI Partition (System Reserved Partition) with updates and it prevented additional updates to the partition.

I followed the instructions for Windows 7 or 8/8.1 with GPT partition and was able to update my BIOS. I will try to update Windows 10 now.

  • Portege A100 PPA10A - update the BIOS to boot from a USB device

    Hello

I have an old Portege A100, model: PPA10A-0002LP, but I can't seem to find this model on any Web site of Toshiba, closest I've seen is the "PPA10A - 0002 L'.

I am wanting to know if there is a BIOS update that will allow me to boot from a USB device.

The question I have is that I need to reinstall Windows, but the CD ROm cannot read disks.
This network PXE boot, but I'm new to this sort of thing and have absolutely no idea what to do here.

    Any help would be great,

    Thank you

    Hello

Portege A100 seems to be developed solely for the Australian market.
As you say it is a model number Portege A100 PPA10A - 0002L listed on the Australian page of Toshiba Portege A100 PPA10A-0002LP belongs to the same series which is PPA10A
So in my opinion, the BIOS should work too.

Anyway, I doubt that the BIOS update will add boot options.

Usually the BIOS supports booting from CD/DVD drive, drive HARD, LAN and USB FDD.
It should be possible to boot from a boot disk using a USB FDD drive.
I doubt you'd be able to boot from USB WEIRD since this Portege A100 supports an internal CD/DVD drive.

  • Satellite A100-991 - cannot boot from USB device

My Satellite A100-991 (MS Windows XP MCE, SP3) does not start from a USB key or USB hard drive. The same USB devices are bootable if they are connected to a desktop computer or a laptop from other manufacturers. I put the USB as the first boot device and use an image "Bart PE" on my USB device.

In fact, I have installed 2.10 Phoenix Bios version and I wonder if I could update the BIOS by using the 'sa105v21.exe' program and that this would resolve the startup problem.

    Hello

Have you tested different USB keys? I think that your current USB key is not compatible
Also test the USB to different USB ports. A port may be defective for the computer to start t with him.

Theoretically, you can try upgrading the BIOS but don t forget s a bit more risky and it should be the last step.
Prior to this, load default settings in the BIOS and check if you can boot from USB.

    Hello

I bought a new Toshiba Satellite NB10T-A-101 and want to improve performance by changing the HDD with a SSD and install windows Pro 8.1.

    Thank you.

    Hello

Laptop Satellite NB10T-A-101 was equipped with an Intel CPU 2810 n which is part of the new Intel Bay Trail-M platform.

This new technology Intel Bay Trail allows installation of UEFI capable systems:

    Just a few questions:
Have you already changed the HARD drive to SSD drive?
If so, the new SSD is recognized in the BIOS?
Have you tried to boot from the USB flash memory stick 8.1 Win until you changed your SSD drive?
