Satellite L30-134 PSL33E: CD/DVD player can't read data CD

I bought my laptop (Satellite L30-134 PSL33E) 4 months ago and I had no problem with the optical drive of my Satellite. But yesterday, I discovered that my drive is no longer can read data CDs.

I created a CD with the Toshiba ToDisc utility which contained MP3s. The CD works fine on another computer but when I try to play them on this computer Windows laptop tells me that the CD is blank and asks me if I want to save data.

It doesn't have this problem with the DVD, I can read and write perfectly. My optical drive is a CARPET * a DVD-RAM UJ - 841S. Windows says I have the latest driver for it (5.1.2535.0) but it says it's from 2001 (?) in the properties under the selected hardware.

Help, please!

Hello

    Hello

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD &)
Burn DVDs and CDs and read DVDs). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 parts to no function
while others are doing so correctly.

Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner
    could help.

Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always
    issue.

CD/DVDs have a tolerance + - and your can read/write on the outside edge
tolerances of the disks. They may be delivered, but it is usually cheaper to replace
    the reader.

    ===========================================

This troubleshooting might not help if there are problems of alignment and wear it
    is worth it.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then check the cables
both ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean the
power and data of the contacts with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the system manufacturer
and the manufacturer of the device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD &)

  • Satellite L30-113 PSL33E: CD/DVD player not Burning not.

Hi, for some strange reason my CD/DVD drive will not burn files to CDR discs. I tried burning data and music, but without success. It was working before but now will not work. I have no idea if this is due to updates or if the player is running out.

It will burn the data/music etc. on the disc, but then it will fail.

I would be grateful if someone could help me to find a solution to this problem, as I am a student and I really need to be able to burn files to disc.

    Thank you.

    Try the following steps:

-Remove the drive from Device Manager
    -restart the laptop
-the OS should reinstall the drive
-go into the registry and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} *.

    - then reboot again and test the drive

    Hello

    That says the BIOS?
BIOS sees the 1.5 GB of RAM?

As far as I know that the laptop can be upgraded up to 2 GB of RAM (2 x 1 GB)
The ATI graphics chip also shared memory.
This means that if you installed 2 GB of RAM, a main part of this memory would be shared by GPU.

It would be interesting to know what value would be reported by system using a single module (1 GB or 512 MB)

by the way: what memory is shown in DXDIAG?

    Hi guys

I have a C660-125 and its developed a problem with the DVD player. It can read CDs and burn fine CD, but it won't read or burn DVDs at all.

I used a laser cleaner, I also googled firmware but can't find anything for her.

Any ideas what is wrong with it?

    The model is TS-L633

    > I used a laser cleaner, I also googled firmware but can't find anything for her.

I cleaned my alcohol BIZARRE or cotton tip laser lens and it worked like a charm. In your case worth a try too.

In addition if an ODD firmware would be available, then you should find it on the European driver Toshiba page.
I checked, but did not find a firmware for TS-L633 means that this firmware update is not necessary.

But I found this Toshiba document:
_ODD firmware update to solve problems with the Toshiba creator_ recovery CD
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB9C02RP0000R01.htm

But beware: the document contains files different firmware for TS-L633 on different sides. If your ODD is not on the list, don t try update firmware for your ODD would harm to the use of the firmware is not compatible!

    Hello

You can try the steps to follow

-Try to remove upper and lower filters. If you n t know how, read this Microsoft KB article:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314060

-Remove the drive from Device Manager CD/DVD, and then restart the laptop. After the reboot of the CD/DVD drive will be recognized again. Maybe it works.

-Perhaps there is dust on the lens. You should try to clean the lens of the CD/DVD drive.

In the worst cases, the CD/DVD drive must be replaced :(

  • Problem with BIOS for Satellite L30-134 PSL33E v3.10

Guy. I need new version of BIOS for PSL33E or earlier to 3.10.
I can't download BIOS for PSL33U but I'm not sure that I need to install as the user R2D2 says:

The series of mobile Americans is different and I guess the US BIOS is not fully compatible with the series of Europeans!
Therefore, you should not use the BIOS from a U.S. Internet site. It's very risky!
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/message.jspa?MessageID=120416

    ASP is old BIOS also.

    Yes, R2D2 is right.
If you are owner of the European model for Toshiba laptop, then you should use the drivers and BIOS from the European pilot of Toshiba page.
If you are a laptop Toshiba U.S. owner then you should use the BIOS and drivers from the Toshiba page we.

The update of the BIOS is always risky, and I do not recommend the use of updates to the BIOS that are not designed specifically for your model of laptop.
