Satellite L30 and 2x1GB PC2 - 5300 DDR2 667 compatibility

I've seen a few posts here on the incompatibility of the L30 and have 2x1GB PC2 - 5300 DDR2 667 modules installed. Apart from the demotion to 2x1GB PC2-4200 modules, nobody put in point a reason why this problem occurs.

My Satellite L30-00100E comes preinstalled with 2x256MB DDR2 533 PC2-4200. My current BIOS is v2.10 latest (available on the website).

I have a couple of spare 1 GB 667 modules of work (which has been tested as working). I put them in my L30 and tried a few tests using MemTest86. Essentially, these tests pass:

1x1GB (any module in any accommodation)
1x1GB + 1x256MB (any module in any accommodation)

What does work is 2 x 1 GB! It will fail on the random test (test #7), and it always fails on what appears to be a random address memory under the address range of 1024 MB. I have yet to see a mistake over 1024 MB and this happens no matter what order the modules are installed in the slots. What I see is something like this:

Address: 942.6 (this changes - but still less than 1 024 MB)
Writing: 0x2cd48206 (this change)
Read: 0x2cd48286 (this change - but the 2nd to the last value was released by 0x80)
Diff: 0 x 00000080 (it's always the same)

The Diff value is always the same and makes me think that it is a little be overthrown so that it should not be.

Memory 667 MHz is now able to run at 533 MHz, the memory is good, and some combinations work 667, so I suspect that it is a BIOS problem. Maybe it's just get confused by the memory timings?

What can I/we/Toshiba?

BTW - I put t really want to buy 533 MHz RAM, especially now that 667 is cheaper. So, for now, I'm stuck at 1x1GB + 1x256MB RAM... ie a 667 with a 533 mix!

Hello

This is not the problem of BIOS!
I also read several discussions on the problem of memory upgrade on L30 and all people have the same problem; the Crucial modules are not compatible or do not work!

I have a L30 at home and I could upgrade the L30 with a 1 024 MB module. It was one of Kingston.

As you say of the L30 is FSB 533 MHz it is therefore absurd to use the 667 MHz module. If the 667 Mhz modules are better markets than 533 Mhz modules, then I suppose that the quality of these modules is not the best.

In general, the quality and performance of the modules without name is bad and I do not recommend the use of these modules for different reasons.

Use the recommended Toshiba modules and good luck!

Hi, I have a DV2045ea (Yes a bit old, I know and I intend to improve the 2 x 512 to 2 x 1 GB Rams.) The intalled ones are 4200, but my question is this laptop takes supported 5300 s because I have a few probs to find 4200 s? Thank you.

It will downclock if you install DDR2-667 (PC2-5300) memory and will work fine. But the system speed is 533 mhz (PC2-4200) and it does not work faster. My advice is to buy Kingston or Crucial because they ensure compatibility if you buy the module exactly specced for your laptop.

Here is the crucial page and you can't really go wrong with 2 x 1 GB for $30

  • Satellite U300 - 13 M - 4 GB DDR2 667 MHz RAM upgrade

    Hello dear experts,

At the moment, I have 2 x 1 GB Samsung installed DDR2 of memory 667 Mhz strips.

    I would like to extend the 4 GB RAM so I bought Kingston DDR2 667 MHz 2 x 2 GB KVR667D2S5 / 2G modules.

But the computer is not started.
It does not start with the single module or with two modules are installed.

If I install set of Samsung 1x1GB + Kingston 1x2Go, computer starts, but Widnows 7 32 bit see only 1 GB of RAM.

If I update the BIOS, will it work?
    Or any suggetions?

    Thanks a lot guys!

In my opinion it has nothing to do with the BIOS update. It's the compatibility issue.

As you already know that your laptop can be upgraded up to 4 GB and you use 2 x 2 GB modules.
2 GB compatible RAM has PA3513U-1M2G part number.

I checked the page Kingston and memory module with KTT667D2 part number / 2G is listed as compatible for your Satellite U300 - 13 M.

After that I have a clean install of Windows 7, of reinstal the Toshiba value added package wich I downloaded from the site.
All keys special function of Toshiba Satellite L30 - 10T working again except high audio FN one downstairs.

Do I need additional drivers to get the Volume up and down the function button to work?

I discovered that the Volume actually works with the fn from top to bottom but its just very slow and there is no visual indication.

I used to have a green bar on the screen indicating how much volume been turned upwards or downwards.

How can I get a Visual indicator for volume control?

Memory locations are generally accessible from the Base of the laptop.

Find a door with a screw, remove the screw and lift the door. You should see two memory slots (with a free location according to the model).

But you must make sure that your laptop can take 2 GB modules. I think that if you have a Celeron processor, the system cannot take more than 1 + 1 GB

  • The series Qosmio G20 does support PC2-5300?

    Hello all,.

For some time now, I've thought about the possibility of an upgrade of RAM for my Qosmio G20 - 126 and all looking for a more economical way than that which is available via the Toshiba site (~ £100 for a 1 GB RAM Module!) I met articles suggesting that the Qosmio G20-126 is compatible with RAM PC2-5300 (333 MHz). To my knowledge the Qosmio G20-126 comes with 2x512MB PC2-4200 (266 MHz) modules installed, in addition to the direct available from Toshiba RAM upgrades are also PC2-4200. So my question for you, former scholars of the Toshiba support forum is simple; my laptop is REALLY compatible with PC2-5300? and if so there will be problems worthy of consideration (i.e. insufficient power supply etc...)?

Also, I wonder if there are intrinsic advantages regarding the marked Toshiba RAM upgrades available via the site of Toshiba UK. I found the modules of RAM of the similar (at least as far as I can see) specifications for a third of the price. It would be also interesting to note that the model of module of RAM available here on Toshibas website is (according to Google products alias Froogle) same price when buying from third party suppliers (so it's not simply a question of margins exorbitant of Toshiba, unless of course the sellers are also defined on by the aforementioned increases.)

    Sincere greetings,
    Lee Hyde.

    Hello

    The Qosmio G20-126 supports a FSB 533 and, therefore, the PC2-4200 DDR2 266 MHz modules are! (DDR2 266 Mhz-> 533 MHz)
It is absurd to use the RAM PC2-5300 DDR2 333 MHz due to the FSB. You won't see improvements in speed or performance.

I wonder why you are surprised that Toshiba recommends the use of own products (memory sticks). I think that each manufacture recommend clean products!
In addition, it is important to mention that brand memory modules are much faster and the performance is much better than the performance and quality of the nameless memory module.

Of course, you can use all modules that supports hardware specifications, but the don t wonder about laptop performance and memory problems after the use of modules without a name!

I use the modules of Kingston and I also recommend using these modules, because quality is really nice

    Hello

I upgraded my BIOS Satellite L30 and now the laptop will not boot. When I turn on the fan starts and that's it. I think I have updated the book with the bad BIOS... The laptop is only 1 day old... Is it possible to reset the machine to the default BIOS.

    Help, please...

    Hi Scott,.

Unfortunately there is no easy way for you to go to your BIOS to its previous level. You need to entrust your laptop to a Service approved partner who has the necessary equipment to Flash the BIOS to the previous level.

  • Satellite L30: Connection to a printer via USB Windows XP

    Hi all

I'm trying to connect my printer (Brother MFC 9070) to my Satellite L30 and it does not work. Can I use the USB interface to connect the printer to the laptop under XP? I've read that USB can be used to connect the printer to Mac OS, but if not, how should I connect the printer as good old parallel interfaces do not exist on the new mobile no more? Who can help?

  • Satellite L30: Join to the domain takes 10 min

We bought a Tosh Satellite L30 and it came with Vista Basic pre-loaded.

On our domain, we use software only supported up to Windows XP Pro, Windows XP Pro SP2 has been installed (formatted HARD drive)
I downloaded XP drivers, (I see there is no chipset driver, only one video/audio etc.) and install

The laptop seems to be OK when I connect locally (name, username/password / local PC), but is joined to the domain when I try to login (name of domain/name username/password), it takes at least 10 minutes to connect.

Trying to install a relatively small application to a network drive take at about the same time (usually less than a minute.
I checked the server and it doesn't seem to be rejecting the laptop

The only clues I receive are in the event Log.
It comes up with 3 inputs

IRQARB ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI 2 connector

Is that which is the cause of the problem?

    Hello

    > Can I update the BIOS? IF I do and it goes wrong, what then!

Especially, if the BIOS update fails, the laptop cannot start and assistance of the ASP is required upgrading the BIOS is always risky and should be done with care.

With regard to the long connection time
Well, it's not easy to say what causes this waiting long connection

The search in the Microsoft Knowledge base I have found only this:

You may need to install the chipset drivers mainboard that should be found on the page of the Toshiba driver!

    Hello

go to Device Manager and check if there is a yellow question mark shown there. Also, read this article how to determine, unknown device, peripheral position, or the id of the provider.

Perhaps, you try to install the wrong drivers.

I have a Satellite L30 and the battery does not seem to charge.

The battery keeps flickering light with yellow outside. I can use the laptop when I am connected but when if I'm moving to much the battery seems to lose the connection to the AC adapter.

I don't know if it's the battery or something else.
    Can anyone help?

Please, remove the battery and use laptop with AC adapter only. I imagine that you will be able to use your laptop properly. When the laptop is ON put the battery back in place and let us know if the battery led will continue to Flash.

If Yes, I'm pretty sure the battery is dead and you need a new.
