Satellite L30 initialize not up - show a j and blinking cursor

I had a Satellite L30 a few years without worries.
Now it will not start upward, quickly moves through the screen Toshiba for 2-3 seconds, then a black screen with 'j' in the upper left corner and a blinking underscore. The unti will beep with each keystroke.

She not go!

The value of the default BIOS and try to start the operating system preinstalled in SafeMode (F8 at startup).
Can you do this?
Can you enter the advanced with F8 boot parameters?

I have a Satellite L30 101 and since he was able to load!

The first time I turned it on it loaded correctly, then once the Windows XP logo came to the top of the screen started showing horizontal lines across the screen pixelated. It was clear after some time he'll luckily to load properly, so I turned it off. I then loaded it up.
The power led and the activity indicator is entered, but the screen remains blank and nothing loaded.

There is also very little noise from the computer, I expect that there is some sort of noise from him during this phase. I tried to turn on the computer again just before sending to it the power light just now and still it will not load.

Anyone know what could be causing this? Or have any ideas at all?

I'm skilled enough to build desktop computers, computers laptops not so much, but I'm willing to try to disassemble the laptop to see if I can find something that might be wrong.

About your message, to me, looks like the graphics card would give up.
Pixelated horizontal lines could be a sign that would confirm my hypothesis.

I fear that this could be a serious hardware malfunction: (m
The graphics chip is attached to the motherboard and in this case the motherboard needs to be replaced
and this could be an expensive affair because the motherboard is one of laptop parts cheap!

However, these are only my personal assumptions and if you want to be 100% sure what harm s with your laptop, then a laptop technician should check the hardware parts

  • Satellite L30 does not start after the BIOS update

    Hello

I upgraded my BIOS Satellite L30 and now the laptop will not boot. When I turn on the fan starts and that's it. I think I have updated the book with the bad BIOS... The laptop is only 1 day old... Is it possible to reset the machine to the default BIOS.

    Help, please...

    Hi Scott,.

Unfortunately there is no easy way for you to go to your BIOS to its previous level. You need to entrust your laptop to a Service approved partner who has the necessary equipment to Flash the BIOS to the previous level.

  • Satellite L30 does not start after the upgrade to 2 GB of memory

I bought 2 GB Crucial memory for my L30. After removing the 512 MB module and adding two modules of 1 GB the L30 wouldn't start. With only 1 GB start ok ok, with the other boot only 1 GB.

Either 1 GB modules and module of 512 MB with start ok. The two modules of 1 GB boot not together. Crucial gave up and offered a full refund, but I'd rather have a solution if possible.

At the BIOS level is 2V30, that I understand to be the latest version available.

    Ideas please, John

    Hello

You're right, this problem seems very strange and I wonder why this happens.
Satellite L30 certainly supports the 2 GB of memory and you should be able to upgrade with 2 x 1024Mo modules!

It's strange, but it seems that these two modules are not compatible together
I found Toshiba recommend module on options and accessories site.
DDR2 400/533 1 GB (PA3411U-1M1G) maybe you could try this one...

In any case, I don't think that you will be able to solve this problem in another way. The modules must be replaced.

  • Re: Satellite L30 does not start after adding another stick of 1 GB memory

I bought 1 GB PC4200 533 MHZ DDR2 SODIMM memory module for my Toshiba Satellite L30 - 10v (PSL33E) to make it 2 GB. After you have added the 1 GB modules Satellite L30 wouldn't start. With only 1 GB, that it starts ok, with the other 1 GB origianal only boots ok. (The two modules are ZCE6 430 - K4T1G163QB Samsung 1 GB PC4200 533 MHZ DDR2)

The two modules of 1 GB boot not together. I noticed that many others have had this problem. (please see
    This [t-22984]. post)
On this forum, someone bought the CT12864AC53E memory module which works, however I can't find this on the site of Crucial.
I've heard other purchase the sticks of memory CT572238 and CT572234 and have the same problems.

Memory Advisor says determinative buy the CT572234 memory sticks.

I have also updated the bios to V3.10, still does not start with the two modules.

I'm ready to buy 2 new modules, but what 2x1GB memory works?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    For me it s case;
The two modules don't work together
Seems the modules are not compatible there is only one solution. Replacement of RAM!

    Try other RAM modules.
I bought a few modules from Kingston and made good experience

  • Satellite L30-149, only works with external monitor and VGA mode

Satellite L30-149, Windows XP Home Edition

Yesterday I did face the following problem:

I swithched on my laptop but I have nothing on the screen. I tried to reboot several times, but it did not help. If I look very carefully, I see the logo of Intel (black text on white on the screen) but nothing else. The logo shows very low.

I plugged on the external monitor. With that he gives a little more. The Intel logo with the instruction how to reach configuration etc. Then Windows logo but when it should ask the user, the external monitor going to sleep mode and nothing happens after that.

And an external monitor, I managed to connect to Windows in safe mode and also in VGA mode. In VGA mode, I tried to change the resolution, after that I got black screen again and I had to start.

Now I wonder if I could do something (update of drivers, etc.) or should I go to the store where I bought the laptop and ask them to fix it. This look like a problem covered by the warranty?

    --
Upgrade to this message (what happened after that I wrote the above text).

I turned on the laptop again. I thing the lightning from the room is now better because I noticed that the laptop seems to work (almost) correctly. Windows starts normally, I can faintly see the desktop. This seems to be a problem in the background ligthning. FnF7 does not change the situation.

    This sentence is very interesting.
Sounds like a question of FL-ups!

It is a small part behind the screen and control the backlight of the screens.
Usually, this part is not very expensive and the replacement is not complicated to a technician for laptop.

If your warranty is valid, then everything should be done for free.
Try to contact the ASP in your country and ask for later handling.

    Greetings and good luck

  • Satellite L30-134 - after HDD upgrade PC freezes and won't start

    Hello
I upgraded my Satellite L30-134 of the standard 60 GB HDD for a new 120 GB. After that, I have the following problem:

After that format cannot install original XP and Vista, the progress bar show me that the installation is complete but after reboot, nothing happens. This problem persists long wery. After 3-4 clean up one after another the pc starts and runs very well about 3 weeks. What is the problem? Any idea?

    (2) when I first install Vista or Linux PC is runing fine, but not in normal parameters. Always freeze but after hard reset works fine for about 2-3 days. When I install XP first that the PC is useles after hard reboot the only thing I can do is to format the HARD drive and do a clean install.

PS: The HARD disk is produced Original Toshiba.

    Hello

This strange boyfriend s but to me it sounds like that, these problems are caused from the new HARD drive that may be defective.

I think you should test the HDD using Hitachi Drive Fitness Test:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
With the Drive Fitness Test, you can test your HARD drive. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. You can then the HARD drive test.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.

Good luck and give us feedback, what happened! :)

    Hello

For me the description sounds like the laptop can not find an OS on the HARD disk bootable.
The laptop trying to boot from the HARD drive and Windows has not been installed on the HARD disk or portable computer booting from the drive, but the environment is not bootable.

Have you tried to boot from the recovery delivered CD or have you tried to reinstall the operating system?

Neither works but the DVD was the last to do so.

If they both be D: How can I change?
My system is Vista 32 bit.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi mate

In my computer, you should see the HARD and CD /DVD. disc drive
Usually the HARD drive or the partition of the HARD drive is listed as C and the CD/DVD drive must be registered as D or other letter.

Depends on the partition created on the HARD drive because each partition is assigned to a certain letter.

However, the letters are editable in the Windows operating system disk management.
    Make a right-click on desktop-> manage-> disk management
Here, you can change the letters.

    Regarding the CD/DVD drive:
I recommend the withdrawal of the CD/DVD drive in Device Manager list.
Simple delete it and restart the device.
After restarting again, then OS should recognize the STRANGE new

New office (not this one) with windows 8.1 Pro, 29 of Firefox, Norton Internet security. When I go to a lot of these images of pages of Firefox are not displayed, only the text and links. This is true for the addons page of 'get '. I can search for Add-ons, but when I try to install one, the installation fails. • Satellite L30 will not recognize battery

    Hi guys

Having a problem with my battery.

The battery itself is not so old and works in another machine. My current L30 for some reason any will not recognize the battery. When the captain came out of the computer does not use the battery. It sometimes happens with a bright orange at the front as if his load, but he never goes green.

Other times where the battery icon is in the lower right corner, it has a cross through the battery icon as if it does not exist.
    All ideas

Remove the battery and connect your laptop to the power running, start Windows and when the OS is fully charged, put the battery in the place again.

    The battery is correctly recognized?

  • Satellite R 630 - BatteryBar Pro shows my wear and tear on the battery under the name more 14%

    Hello

My R630 is only a few months old, but in BatteryBar Pro, it's showing my wear of the battery under the names of over 14%.

What is classified as wear unacceptable battery to get a Toshiba replacement battery and how is the best way to exercise oversight?

    Thank you

    Matt

    Hello

To be honest I n know this software, but in my experience such tools are not always correct. I have what to say is that no one knows whether the values supplied are true or not to my knowledge there is no actual parameter which could provide such battery information
It would be really interesting to know the values provided from other similar tools and compare this

However the battery is part of consumables for laptop. Sooner or later each battery die it s just a matter of time
As far as I know each battery (regardless of which manufacturer it is) is covered by the warranty for a year. So if the battery would die in the first year, then you can get it replaced free of charge.

    > pressing the zero key "0" turn on the power, when you see a white bottom bar and hear a glance release the Zero key and it should start installation or reinstallation of your system

I doubt it will work because this function is NOT implemented on Toshiba notebooks European but as I know about the series of notebook Toshiba U.S.!

You can try to press the F8 key. An option called fix my computer should then be visible. Select it, then choose Toshiba HDD Recovery. Then a HARD drive recovery procedure must begin.

But if it of not possible to choose this option, and then you take your recovery disk and must try to boot from it.
If you don t have a recovery disk, and then use a CD of original installation MS windows, or you can order a new disc of recovery from here:
