Satellite L300-180 PSLB0E-06Y02SGR: Possible HARD drive failure

Here's my problem:

A few days ago my HARD drive started making unusual mechanical noises, resulting in a momentary freeze (Windows XP Pro). Yesterday, after loading Windows XP Home edition and screen rather than go to the login screen, I didn't have a black screen and the same does HARD drive noises Windows freeze. Same thing when the computer reboots, with safe mode does not work yet. Trying to reinstall windows, the HARD disk has been correctly detected (SATA in compatibility mode), formatted and copied all of the installation files. After reaching the last 5 minutes of installing WXP however, same noise appararurent again, followed by possibly a BSOD; Error STOP 0x000000F4 (0 x 00000003, 0x88DE3DA0, 0x88DE3F14, 0x805D1142).

My HARD drive is lost? I can't access any service warranty until next week, so I would like to know what could be the cause of this problem, and if I can fix me.

Thaks

Hello

Noise in the HARD disk isn't really quite normal. If the recovery has been tried already and same problem persist then that means that there is really something wrong with the hardware. Send it in for a thorough check as the warranty expires thaty already if they can check in the depot. :)

  • Satellite Pro P200 - Smart error "imminent hard drive failure".

Hello! I wonder if someone can help me.

Start the computer, the other day the S.M.A.R.T diagnostic program came suddenly on saying a "hard drive failure may be imminent," when I open the Intel Matrix Storage console, it says that the hard drive in port 0 has had a S.M.A.R.T event recorded against him but that of port. 2 is 'normal '.

Port 0 is the volume of the operating system on it and if so what would be the best way to back up the disk and what someone knows how to change the hard drive and how much approximately would this cost?

    Thanks for any help inadvance.
    Paul.

    Hello!

In my opinion, you should back up all the data as quickly as possible. In the worst case you could HARD drive might completely die and then you are not able to save the data on it.

After that you should swap the HARD drive. It s depending on the model of HARD drive you buy how much it will cost but drives hard are not so dear to our days. I think that it will be possible to get one for 50 Euros.

  • Satellite L655D-011-HDD/SSD Alert, HARD drive failure?

I have an old L655D-011 of 6 months and yesterday it started to appear with the message to back up my files because there is a problem with my HARD drive. Well, after having a technical support in the past, I don't give that easily and simply run my laptop to the nearest authorized service center. Instead, I help out.

I did the BIOS update finally. No change in question.
Finally had time to create a recovery media. No problem with that at all.
I reformatted. No change in question.
Checked the health monitor. It shows that my HARD drive is "good". Yet, when I double-click the icon, I get a pop - up with the following message:

    "Toshiba HDD/SSD Alert."

    Disk0

Your HARD drive is SMART failure to predict which monitors the status of operation of the HARD drive. Your HARD drive is facing a problem and CHIP controlling the software predicts that the HARD drive will fail. Toshiba strongly recommends that you create a back-up to the date of your HARD drive. Contact an authorized service provider to check your drive and buy a new replacement if necessary. »

So, after that I decided to run a CHKDSK /f /r. Result: 'windows replaced bad clusters in file name \hiberfil.sys 44990.'

I should be good to go, right? N ° same problem with the precaution of backing up my files.

But this isn't good, is it? If my HARD drive is about to fail why monitor health show that everything is "good"? There is no problem with gel, pxe.boot errors, rattling disc, unusual vibrations or read/write failures.

So, my questions (after all the above and see other threads to ask questions about HARD drive failure messages) are: were there any known issues where the SMART software does not work correctly? Are failure drives hard all from the same manufacturer (I've seen this happen - get a bad batch of a single manufacturer HARD drive)? The health monitor working correctly?

In my opinion your questions cannot be answered simply.
    > Are there any known issues where the SMART software does not work correctly?
How many people must confirm that they have the same problem? I guess this happens from time to time, but you cannot say that this problem is known.
You will always find people who noticed the same issue and not on Toshiba forum only, but on all the forums where people discuss cell phones in general.
    > Is the disk failure hard all from the same manufacturer (I've seen this happen - get a bad batch of a single manufacturer HARD drive)?
How to check or confirm this?

You know, during the first backup all your important data, watch carefully what happens the next few days. If the info appears again and again, contact the nearest service Toshiba and let them Exchange the HARD drive.
The guarantee is valid and it will be free of charge.

  • Satellite L300 - several bad sectors on HARD drive

    Hello

I'm very angry with my Satellite L300 - 14G. One morning, my computer refuses to boot Vista, each attempt ended with a crash and go back to the choice of startup (with 'repair my computer', 'safe mode' and 'start windows normally').

I could save my data with a utility disk and try to "HDD Regenerator V1.71", which located a number of bad sectors on the HARD disk. I decided to put my computer as on the first day with the built-in utility.
Two weeks ago, the same problem.

I bought another hard drive and replaced it. Reinstalled Vista and my data... 1 month later... still the same problem (currently HDD Regenerator is scanning and find bad sectors 185!)
I don't think that would be caused by a virus. I use Nod32 and I don't do anything illegal with my machine.

Some mistakes seem to be generated every day... until the crash of the OS...
Anyone have ever seen such a problem?
(I bought in September 2008... no guarantee more for my machine)

Let's take a look at your problem:

-hdd went wrong and you are using a third party program to fix
+ Why don't check you with "chkdsk" and read the smart values of the disc? +
-you bought another hard drive and after a short period of time the same failure occurs
+ was the new hard drive, a big and cheap or a little and a little expensive? +

We will analyze what happened to your hard disks:
-recovery written datas sectorwise back in training > bad sector crashed > and an error occurs
-second hdd also went wrong > if this isn't a sustainable (expensive) hdd, it went bad because of operation > do you often take your laptop with you?

    This brings me to:
-check the smart get more information
-chech crc when reading from another source on the hard drive to verify if the hard drive or the controller or your memory gone bad
-get a 'good' hdd or spend it on tests
-make a recovery and everything right after a chkdsk to make sure that the file structure is ok before working with

I never heard of a disk controller brocken on the motherboard of this distributor - but what I know...

  • Big problem! Need help! Possible hard drive failure

I'm scared, I just lost all my photos & videos of my kids (and everything that was on my computer, music, etc.). I have Windows XP.  Since this morning, I had about 20-25 icons of programs on my main screen.  I have been using the Internet and a big box of Windows Recovery appears.  My main screen turned black & all my programs are gone (Microsoft Works, Itunes, all that) with the exception of Internet Explorer & basket (which was empty).   The box of Windows Recovery says that there are 5 errors & had to be fixed immediately.  When he would give me the possibility to activate a recovery program, as I buy, it wouldn't let me go further (I would like to purchase-click & we would say that my was not connected to the internet, which has been (I continued to check).)  There was also a small box near the bottom of the screen saying that there are clusters of hard drive (or something?) detected & my personal data were at risk.    When I go to the start menu & click on my pictures or my music there is nothing there.  I'm panicking.  I started to save the pictures on disks but wasn't anywhere close to saving them all.  Someone please tell me there's a way to save files after a hard disk is perhaps out of service.

    HI Julie,.

It's the screen of Spyware / Malware... You scan your computer for virus in safe mode? It wipes out all these problems.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello

Yes! I recommend you to quickly replace the drive.

County sector waiting to see the 380, that he is a failed disk that is likely to worsen quickly.

Pending sectors are sectors that have been established to be bad and who will be rewritten on the next attempt to write to them.  380 waiting areas is a major concern and a very large number.

  • Satellite L300 - made HARD drive failure?

    Hello

I have a Satellite L300 age of 4 years (under Vista) who is suddenly suspended frequently.
A bit of investigation leads me to think that it is a hard drive failure.
Basically, chkdsk/r crashes at step 4. Disk defragmentation also blocks.

I can start safe mode, and it seems to work ok.
Is not an expert, could someone tell me if I jump to the wrong conclusion?
Y at - it a diagnostic tool to specific hard drive from Toshiba that I could use?

If the standard duration for these hard drives 4 years?

Finally, when a hard drive crashes, it's just the specific physical areas that are illegible? or will it progessively spread and worsen very quickly?

And I have everything backed up if not concerned about data loss but I was wondering about the short-term future.

Thank you for any advice and provided thoughts.

    > Is there a diagnostic tool to specific hard drive from Toshiba that I could use?

You can use another tool of diagnosis of HARD disk as disk HARD Drive Fitness Test.
This freeware tool that allows you to scan the HARD drive.

This software creates a diagnostic boot disk and you will need to boot from this drive to run the test.

    > Finally, when a hard drive fails, is it only specific physical areas that are illegible? or will gradually expand and worsen very quickly?

HARD drive problems are always difficult.
In most cases if the HARD drive crashes, you will be able to access files stored on the HARD drive.
But different COMPUTER experts would still be able to recover files lost with special tools. But in most cases, these rescue operations are expensive and cost a lot of money.

  • Satellite A210 - 1 4 - possible signs of a hard drive failure

    Hello

I use a Toshiba Satellite A210 - 1 4 and think that the hard drive may be showing signs of failure.

    _The symptoms are: _

    * While the Windows 7 boot frequently stops at 'Starting Windows' screen (before the Windows logo appeared) and all HARD drive activity stops meaning a hard reset is necessary to bring him back.

    * When I unplug the power cord on Windows 7, the computer freezes usually with nothing happens and stop any HARD drive activity, once again a hard reset is required to bring back to life.

What are these early signs of HARD drive failure or is there something else wrong?

    Hey Buddy,

For me it doesn t look like the HARD drive malfunction if Windows 7 stops when starting or freezes when you unplug the AC adapter

Have you already tried to reinstall the operating system? It could be the software problem.

If you still want to check your drive HARD uses a disk HARD Drive Fitness Test as a diagnostic tool. It s freeware so you can find it if you search on Google.

  • Satellite L300 - 12K PSLB0E: hardware upgrade

    Hello!

I would like to increase my ram, but the Toshiba site, the specifications indicate that the max ram is 2048.
Is this correct, or if I can replace my 2 x 1024 for example putting 2 x 2048?

I want to upgrade the processor too. Is this possible?

    Thanks in advance!

    > Is this correct.
    Yes.

Computer laptop Satellite L300 - 12K PSLB0E supports the Chipset Mobile Intel GL960 Express
Here you can find some s chipset Specifications:
    http://Ark.Intel.com/products/29830/Intel-82GL960-graphics-and-memory-controller

As you can see it this chipset supports 2 GB RAM max. This means that you can use 2 x 1 GB RAM modules

    > I would like to upgrade the processor too. Is this possible?
Such t upgrade is officially supported by the laptop manufacturers. That is why its hard to say if the new CPU is running properly.

Is that these updates depends on the support of chipset and BIOS support. Where the CPU is not compatible with one of the mentioned parts, laptop computer will not work

  • Satellite A200-1CR: Question about upgrade HARD drive

    Hi all...
I would like to ask something...

I have toshiba Satellite A200-1cr with 120 GB HARD drive...

I would like to change my HARD drive. I found a disk hard 2.5 "with 250 GB.

    My questions are the following:

    (1) my knowledge of the workstations are very very good. Is it easy to change myself?
I guess it is, but I want to be sure... I guess that is on IDE, right? No SATA at all?

    (2) if I changed it I lose my warranty?

    (3) can I give my laptop Toshiba in Greece official store and let them make the change?
May I take in an informal shop, too?

    (4) can be put on the laptop 2 x 250 GB such US new computers laptops from toshiba?
Is there enough space in the laptop for such a change?

    Thank you in advance...

    Hey Buddy

It is good that ask you the question.

    (1) the Satellite A200-1CR supports SATA and no IDE interface and that's why you need a SATA HDD. It of really not difficult to replace the HARD drive and as far as I know, you should find a few details in the user manual. There is a useful statement and photos that explain the entire procedure.

    (2) hm AFAIK the drive replacement HARD will not void the warranty, and has no effect on the State of security.

    (3) you can also contact the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country for a HARD drive replacement, but in my opinion that is not really necessary because the replacement is not very sensitive. As I said above, check the user manual.

    (4) I don t think that your laptop will support 2 x 250 GB HARD drive.
Of course, there are a few other series laptops which are abele to support two hard drives but I n t think that your laptop A200 support.

Just a small comment on the new HARD drive:
The fact is that some more HARD drive are not supported by the BIOS. I mean an upgrade to 120 GB to 250 GB drive HARD is really a leap one possibly your BIOS would not recognize the HARD drive correctly.
So I recommend to test the HDD first before buying.

    Good bye
